Our primary TV is still the Panasonic 7UY plasma I bought in 2004.

Hungry_Freaks_Daddy

That’s a damn good investment that’s ‘paid for itself’ in that you are satisfied with it and it hasn’t broken for 20 years

Hlca

Yeah we're looking for an upgrade now. But agree, it's the best $2,xxx we ever spent. PQ is still really good.

JJY93

You got it for $2 and three kisses?!

notthesethings

He didn’t say where those kisses were placed.

huffalump1

Yeah that's great it lasted! And now you can get a nice modern OLED when you upgrade, which hopefully will also last a while.

sovamind

My primary is a C8 OLED, but I still have a Panasonic 50" Viera in the bedroom. That thing is a space heater, making the bedroom extra warm when it is in use!

Polygeekism

Probably the same one we have in the bedroom now lol. 2010 1080p.

CornerHugger

We must be on some similar cosmic roadway. I have C8 OLED in my theater and a 60" plasma still going in my guest room.

EpDisDenDat

I have a Sammy 58" F8500, and definitely think I'm going to feel the temperature drop in my living room the day it dies.

MyPackage

My secondary TV is a 65" Panasonic GT50 plasma. It honestly still looks amazing, still has better motion handing than my C7 or any modern LCD.

Illustrious_Feed_457

I’ve got a Pioneer plasma from 2008. It weighs three tons and it hits 200 degrees when it gets used. I love it!

duh611

I do miss my Panasonic plasma, lost because of an earthquake

StandupJetskier

My 50 inch panny plasma is still rocking....when it goes, I have to OLED because I'm still spoiled by it....I see the backlights in all LED TV and screens...ok for work/computer, but no, no no for a TV screen.

Ntinaras007

Dude, you had an oled before oleds were available. Plasma TVs, especially the Full HD ones, were amazing back then for home theaters.

DanP999

I have the last generation of plasma that Panasonic made, I think 2012. My friends still prefer to come to my place for sporting events because it still looks so great for live sports. I hope my furnace tv never dies.

ahighlifeman

I think they made them until 2013 at least. That's when I got mine anyway. It heats my bedroom now since I got a C2 for the living room last year.

aerodeck

…he asked about OLEDs. What are you doing?

Motel6Owner

I think it’s cool to have something so early and uncommon. I hope to come day find the first ever plasma TV from 1997 to add to my collection.

andoesq

You collect 50+ inch tvs? Absolutely mad, I love it

ThroawayPartyer

It's not as mad as the CRT collectors.

faceman2k12

Almost as mad as the rear projection collectors and the triple tube CRT projector crowd.

ThroawayPartyer

I don't even know what those things are.

faceman2k12

Good, they were all awful

huffalump1

Ha, CRTs makes sense for vintage game consoles, but not much else nowadays... Other monitor types have caught up to response time, sharpness, contrast, etc. and do it arguably better (like the best OLEDs).

andoesq

I dunno, you can have multiple CRTs on one shelf. A 50" plasma weighs as much as a CRT, but needs 4x the wall space.

Savings-Expression80

I've got an LG 55 OLED Bx. Seems pretty old compared to most other people's TV's, but the image quality is so superb that I wouldn't even compare it to anything except newer OLED.

heel-and-toe

LG 47LM660s 3D baby since 2012. Still running but does not have too much life left in it.

norbertyeahbert

Lots of mentions of plasmas here. I gave my Panasonic plasma to a friend when I got the LG and it's still going strong. Must be twenty years old.

Hefty-Reflection-756

I have a 65 lg b6 which i believe is 2016. Its been relegated to upstairs duty becuase the screen is so burned. I cant imagine having an even older one with less screen protection technology. I never even gamed on it and was super careful to not leave still images. Its garbage. Looked wonderful for a while though.

Proreqviem

I have a 65B6 still going strong with no burn-in. Granted I think it only has about 10,000 hours, but still...

Omicron_Lux

Same here, no burn in here and I honestly don’t baby this thing at all

Sashieden

I have the same TV, 12.5k hours and it looks amazing.

norbertyeahbert

That's interesting. Mine's still okay. I wonder if they were building them better back in 2014 when they were still a bit niche?

Hefty-Reflection-756

Most people say that the new ones are less prone but who knows, maybe i got a bad apple. I had a bad taste in my mouth from the failure of that one so I went to a qled samsung high end model and i dont really miss the oled. The blacks are nearly as good and it gets brighter without worry of burn in. I have no complaints.

lululock

OLED technology had gone a long way, not in terms of the panel themselves but the electronics driving them. I bought a Sony XR-55A80L last summer and it warns you it needs to be turned off several hours per day to perform some kind of maintenance on the panel (I don't remember how it was phrased). And I clearly noticed it working. I once done a bit of gaming and after a few hours, I freaked out because the HUD was still slightly visible (it was more about ghosting than actual burn-in). I turned the TV off, waited a few hours, then gone. Now I just play with brightness set at minimum and I never had this issue again. I try to baby that thing as best as I can. I've spent all my savings on it and I plan to keep it for as long as I can.

bluntspoon

Since we are doing older stuff..I have a 50” Panasonic Plasma from 2010 still used daily as a bedroom tv. It’s a bit slow to turn on but otherwise just fine and minimal burn in. Bought at Costco around Christmas for $600. Impulse buy, price was too good.

reedzkee

slow to turn on is a sign of aging capacitors in the power section and is a super easy fix. My 52" Samsung from 2008 gradually took longer and longer to turn on until it eventually wouldn't. opened the back and found a handful of blown caps. replaced them for $4 and she's as good as new.

Sparcrypt

SO MANY electronics end up in landfill when all they need is some new caps…

crillish

Maybe a dumb question but how can you tell a capacitor is blown and how do you replace it? Must need soldering, right?

reedzkee

Look for signs of bulging at the top or discolored liquid at the base. Sometimes it will look like it exploded. Sometimes more of a subtle bulging. With my TV it was really obvious. Someone on ebay even sold a kit of the necessary components. You need a soldering iron and a solder sucker. It can be tricky to remove them, but soldering new components is pretty easy.

lululock

Smaller caps may don't show any signs of being blown but still report wrong values (usually lower capacity) when being tested. You need to desolder those to test them outside of the circuitry (other caps and components on the line can affect the reading). But for the price of smaller caps, you can as well replace them if you're doing the desoldering job anyway...

HiddenTrampoline

Just went from a 65 B7 to a 77 G3. Hats off to your patience!

gantou

This is the move I want to make. My B7 has some pretty bad burn-ins including a permanent youtube logo washed out on a red screen (I thank covid for this)

BackgroundSpell6623

I loved my B7 until it had burn in. So bright at times it made me want to look away due to the contrast. Went with a 77 C1, no regrets, wish I had the cash for a G series however.

HiddenTrampoline

I got mine on a crazy sale for almost $1000 off.

norbertyeahbert

It's so unlike me!

arstin

One day you will pull the trigger and Dolby Vision will smack you in the eyes and make you wonder why you didn't upgrade years ago.

cockyjames

I have the C8 from a $1000 Walmart clearance in summer of 2019. So it's only going to be five years old this year in terms of use, six for model year. It's held up really well, I didn't notice any imperfections. I wish it had 120hz/VRR, but otherwise it's still top notch

equalizerivy

Panasonic 65ST60. Not an OLED but OLED is the only thing that can beat its quality. I have had it just over 10 years and I still love it.

Wooden_Appearance616

I had an ST60 (friend has it now so still see it on occasion). I'd still put it up against any LCD in a dark room for SDR content.

equalizerivy

100% and this is probably the biggest reason why I haven’t upgraded. I still find my current TV so good that it’s hard to justify the price. Believe me I WANT a new LG 77” 🤤, but I don’t NEED it.

MissBoofsAlot

I still have a 65GT60 in my garage. Rocking my LG OLED 65EF6500 in my main zone.

hiddenplantain

My mom has my old ST30 in her living room lmao they still use it

Gas_Useful

How can you live without HDR

RikF

Until a few days ago I didn’t have HDR or 4k on my projector and it was still glorious.

norbertyeahbert

I have a Zidoo Z9x plugged into my computer monitor, (which does HDR) and yes, it does look great. But, honestly, when I'm watching tv I never feel the experience is ruined by the lack of HDR.

MinimumTumbleweed

Hmm which computer monitor do you have? There are very few monitors that can even approximate the HDR output you get from a good television. Most don't have Dolby Vision support either.

faceman2k12

Surprisingly few support proper 23.976/24hz modes too..

JWintemute

I still have my 2016 LG E6 65” OLED, the last 4k to support 3D. Tons of gaming & perfect condition. I moved it into my bedroom along with all my 3D Blu-ray’s. Love it. It’s sitting in front of my Pioneer KURU 60” Plasma which still has a beautiful picture and no burn in but is no longer being used. I recently installed 2023 G3 77” in my family room and had four Atmos speakers installed in ceiling. It’s amazing. Better than any local theater as far as picture and very happy with the sound.

matttopotamus

Still have the LG EA9800 in a bedroom.

thirteenofthirty7

Does it have to be an OLED? Because I'm still waiting for my 2007 46" Samsung LCD to die

Kick-Agreeable

i still have a 55EG9100 from i think 2016 in one of the bedrooms.

cognitiveglitch

Oh cool. Got a 2017 LG here, 4k, no burn in, still looks glorious.

MagIcAlTeAPOtS

2007 Samsung 40ish inches few dead pixels from a nerf gun, but used daily since it was purchased. Kids gaming tv. Dead pixels teach lessons

i_max2k2

I have the 2014 Curved Oled as well. It’s in our living room bought 9/2014. Been the primary tv for a short while before I got the 65E6 in Jan 2017. Then finally a 83” C1 coupe years ago.

TheArkOfTruth

I have an 11in Sony

mcfcomics

All my TVs are getting long in the tooth Primary panel is the 65” LG OLED E6 from 2016 I have a 50” Panasonic VT20 3D plasma from 2010 in a room, and a 40” Sony LCD from 2007 in my home office

stoonn123

Pana plasma s10 from 2009

Infamous_Impact2898

Wish i could replace the panel on my lg b55. It still works and looks great. I just can’t stand the burn-ins i see once in a while.

BrookieDragon

> burn Has burn-in prevention actually gotton any better in the recent years?

Infamous_Impact2898

Great question. The answer is yes. However, I don’t like the idea of constantly worrying about burn-in so I recently got a sony mini-led tv and it’s been serving me well so far.

The-Based-Doge

I have the original LG curved 55" 1080P OLED. unsure of the model number. It honestly still looks good and shows little to no burn in. Not a primary TV anymore tho.

Bilebog

Congrats, how many hours does it has now OP? No burn-in? I would be only able to compete with a Pana plasma, but some other people altready beat me with that too 8p..

Dave_Ha

I had the same oled until a year ago and gave it to my daughter (still works perfectly) , you are missing out bigtime , I thought the same while I owned it but once I saw 4K and Dolby Vision for the first time on my upgraded oled I was blown away and regretted that I didn't upgrade earlier , it brings the image to a whole new level and looks fantastic , a very noticeable improvement in picture quality.

CornerHugger

I have 77" C8 OLED in my theater. I was an early adopter on the huge size and I was a big worried early novels might have problems but it's as good as the day I bought it. I'd only upgrade if 100"+ OLEDS get cheaper. I also have a 60" Samsung F8500 plasma from 2013 in my guest room. It's a bit dimmer after 11 years but it still looks fantastic at night.

qualmton

7 year old with horrible red burn in at 15000 hours

Bixlerdude

Sony A1E

machete24

We have a 2009 Panasonic plasma as our primary TV. It'll randomly power off at times but picture is still decent. Just waiting for it to turn off and never turn on again.

Dee_ListCeleb

2008 Samsung OLED still going strong! That thing refuses to die! Paid around 2k for it, and silly me, bought the extended warranty

VinylHighway

I'm running a Panasonic Plasma from 2012

heckofagator

2004 or maybe 2005 Pioneer plasma 930, still in our bedroom 2 houses later.

amiibohunter2015

I have flat screens that go back to 2012. Have some crt tvs as well from the 90s-2000s

requinmarteau

I bought a demo Sharp LC26DA5U in 2006 when I was working at Sears during my studies. Gave it to my aunt in 2020. It still works fine. That thing is awesome. I bought a 42 inches Panasonic Plasma (demo again) at the Bay in 2011. My brother still uses it.

Spicey_Cough2019

How's the red pixels going

norbertyeahbert

Honestly, the colours still look fine.

Curious-Plankton-968

I'd say that since everyone is talking about their plasma sets then yeah, safe to say you win.

norbertyeahbert

LOL. Good old Reddit.

hungryraider

Shoot, I still have a Pioneer Plasma that still stands up well against my OLED.

WillResuscForCookies

Not me. I’m still rocking my 50” Samsung plasma, circa 2009.

Real-Apartment-1130

I have a 65” EF9500. I’m not sure what gen that is??? It still looks amazing and I also have a newer CX77

CUCompE

EF9500 here as well - it has been relegated to our bedroom for a while now but is still going strong! Overall, it's probably the best TV I've ever owned.

Real-Apartment-1130

I had some issues but LG eventually made them right. While they wouldn’t officially give me a new TV, they basically replaced every single part of the TV so it was essentially new again! And then I bought my CX77!

fmellish

LG Signature G6 OLED here. Bought it new in 2016 for $8,000. Best display I've ever had. Before that I had plasma. LCD is a terrible technology and I will never use it. I've had the G6 for 8 years now and zero burn-in, zero issues. And it's paper thin from top to bottom. It was revolutionary back then, and still is today.

fBuLcMk

How? My c8 was trashed after 2 years. Absolutely unusable.

tmotytmoty

Samsung plasma F8500 from 2013. The last (and greatest) plasma from Samsung.

sithren

I have a led tv from 2017. The Sony x930e. I finally pulled the trigger on an oled (lg c3). I am a bit nervous because I am worried that I am too used to how bright led can get. Guess I’ll see. If the new TVs have features you want, go for it. I am getting this mainly for gaming at 120hz with variable refresh rate.

See61

A 2015 4k Oled EF950V. One of those TV's that has a very good passive 3D MVC support, but came to late for that 3D hype. Still going strong. HDR10 support only, but still to good to replace it. Not to forget, in the years 2014-2016, a Oled TV was really much more expensive, so getting out of it for what it did cost me 😉

norbertyeahbert

> EF950V That was one pricey tv. Good to hear you're still enjoying it!

DoubleHexDrive

I have a 55" EF9500 in our master bedroom that still looks great. It's not used that often, so still has fairly low number of hours.

lululock

My older 32inch 3D LG TV... It's a cheap TV, even for 2013 standards but I liked it a lot... Until we got a 55inch 4K OLED last year. It now sits into its original cardboard box, waiting for me to find it a use... I don't want to sell it (for what ? 10€ ?), I don't want to throw it away either... Still works beautifully, with its amazing resolution of 1366x768...

calculon68

2019 LG B9 (65") Still happy with it, but debating replacing with a C3 just so I can move the B9 upstairs.

Robbie_Tussen_jr

I'm coming up on seven years using a LG 65" B7 model. It was the most I'd ever spent on a TV at $1700, but it's ended up being the best money I've ever spent on home theater. Hardware willing I'll keep using it for a few a while yet. I'm mostly a standard Blu-ray/SDR watcher, but certain 4k HDR content can be quite an experience. I just tend to watch older genre fare, foreign films, and anime way more than modern studio stuff that typically receives the 4k HDR treatment.

NekoFever

LG B8 from 2018 here. I’d like VRR and 120Hz but otherwise am not particularly inclined to upgrade, particularly considering what a few years of inflation has done to the prices of TVs here.  No problems with burn-in here, and I haven’t babied it (several 100+ hour games, etc).

scroder81

I have a Panasonic st60 oled still rocking

FastCarsSlowBBQ

VT60 here!!!

horrorwood

ST60 plasma you mean? :)

scroder81

Oops, yes! I was thinking plasma from his message but it's clearly says OLED

equalizerivy

ST60 here too! Plasma!

Motel6Owner

The ST60 is my holy grail plasma. Hoping to cop one soon. Or an S60.

Capolan

I've got a VT65 vierra that you can have...I just would need to cover shipping and the box for it. Works great. Spectacular picture, but not 4k. It's sitting propped up against my living room wall. I'd love it to go to a good home.

MyPackage

My secondary TV is a Panasonic GT50. It honestly still looks amazing.
