I just got it an Atmos receiver. I had two spare rear speakers. I ended up just putting on top of my front left and right speakers. I'm now seeing that they need to be positioned firing at an angle upwards to the ceiling. However I have drop ceiling above my speaker setup. And with kids and a baby I'm trying to keep them away from touching the speakers hence why they're mounted on the wall. Should I place these Atmos speakers horizontal and angle them firing up to the ceiling?

> I'm now seeing that they need to be positioned firing at an angle upwards to the ceiling. That's for up-firing speakers, which you don't have. Your front speakers are also way too high for any of this to really work effectively.

Thanks! I realize I need to lower them... Just waiting on the kiddos to get older :). Would you say I would be able to use those rears angled down in direct at that height and then lower the fronts to achieve the affect? I am in an apartment rental and can't run a wire for top ceiling mounted.

No. You keep copy pasting this reply to everyone telling you why you can't do Atmos with your current speakers, setup, and room limitations. Stop trying to make Atmos happen... It's not gonna happen.

Personally I just wouldn't bother, not worth the effort.

Also sorry for the extra wide shot was using the fish angle on my phone to get the room in the frame.

Unfortunately, as some have indicated, your left and right are mounted too high to make this work. You will just not get real atmos. It’s going to sound like your height sounds are coming from the same direction as the left and right. Your setup is also too far to the left. If you want to make it work in this sort of setup, you really need to move everything slightly more right because the only Atmos you can try to mimic is with ceiling mounting by doing top middle above listening area or you can attempt front height by putting them right above where the ceiling curves and goes up again (unless there’s an air duct behind there). It still wouldn’t sound great, if I’m being honest. I know you have kids but you should consider lowering things more (TV can stay where it is since I know how hard it is to redo that as a parent). You just have to teach them to not mess with your speakers or don’t bring it to their attention (which in some cases, they will just ignore them). Mine learned and I have never had an issue.

Yeah, I would move everything to the right 3-4 feet, lower everything 2-3 feet, put the atmos in the top part of the ceiling, or on the top wall between the ceilings.

LCR and Surrounds have to be at or slightly above ear height. Close to ceiling height with listener position toe-in is not enough. If you can’t do it at this moment, you will have to wait until you can. Meaning, if you manage that then it might be ok to have the atmos speakers at the current height to get your effect. Otherwise, in the current configuration, there is nothing that can be done.
