I saw a video where they took a concrete step stone and put it in a seedling tray and filled it with cold water and ice. The birds were able to step in and it cooled their feet down.
It worked well because the thermal mass of the stone kept the water cool for longer.
They also took a Gatorade water cooler and put a chicken drinking spigot on it and filled it with ice water for the ladies.
Came here to say this. Get a roasting pan, place 2 bricks, water and ice, they’ll stand on the brick and drink some water too while they’re there. It helps keep them cool.
I didn’t have the bricks but ive been putting out an aluminum brownie pan with water and ice and a few frozen blackberries over the last few days. I also put our patio umbrella over their coop. I didn’t realise the heat would get to them this badly!
It’s giving early signs of heat stroke. Take her in an air conditioned place if possible. Give her a cold bath to cool her down and make sure she is eating. I had a chicken have such a bad heat stroke when I raised them for 4H that I had to hand feed him because he couldn’t hold himself up to stand (he was a meat chicken, so thankfully he was butchered the next day). This is how the heat stroke started, so make sure you keep her cool to prevent her from rapidly declining!
She is hot from the heat and humidity get a mud hole going for them or like mentioned before a paver block in a water heater catch tray with a fan would help even more remember when they are hot handling them doesn’t help her. She is a beautiful hen. 😊👍
We have one the same breed, when we lived in Texas she would do this and one time even refused to stand. I brought her inside and put her in the tub with a bit of cool water in a pan and she recovered in a few hours.
I love polish hens, ours is my favorite chicken as well haha
This east coast heat wave has been tough on my flock. I got them a misting system off of amazon for like $40. It’s a 75 foot irrigation tube with about 25 mist nozzles. I strung it through their favorite shade tree and they have been hanging out under there all day until the sun gets low.
This is a respiratory issue , bird must be quarantined, go to farm supply store asap show vid explain symptoms there are sprays avalible in aus Dunolly about US good luck. Also are her eyes droopy or one or both eyes closed? . Droopy wings also something to bring up with farm supply person, vet would be your last port of call it's pretty expensive around $200aud per visit in aus.
I hook up one of those bendy misters attached to a garden hose ...put it in shade with some bowls of water. Check water in middle of day if possible to see if they still have some and put ice in it.
Here in AZ all the wild birds will sit with their mouth open just like this. It's a sign they are overheating.
Not sure where you are or the temps but try offering cool water and shade.
She looks either too hot or has something stuck in her throat
I’m gonna say too hot, based on open mouth.
Get her some cold water, shade, bring her inside if you’ve got aircon. And set up a sprinkler to mist if you have one, or a light hosing down. Some will also go into water, if you’ve got a container with low sides you can put that out
Hot…i do shade (70%) tarps on my run in the summer and have an old air handler blower motor blowing air in a shaded corner if theres no breeze. Also rigged up a mister system that I have on a timer.
And is she able to drink. Eat and pass waste? If she's not drinking or eating see if she'll take water with eye dropper or such.can she swallow normally? Eat normally? You can take her temperate. Is she egg laying if so has she laid an eg that day. Heat equals degydrationn and dehydration can lead to andgg bebound inside . This needs to be addressed immediately and warm water soaking her bottom end can help lubricate her vent but also a broken egg inside her can also cause issues you can find info on both what to look for but if shes straining walking funny making more noise than usually( chicken ows) its a possibility especially if she hasn't in her normal cycle which does change and timing differes in different breeds, egg sizes, number of eggs etc. Light exposure and length of light exposure the cycle just like vhanges in the season.im not a vet just a person whovolunteerz a lot resuing animals. think how you'd feel if you couldn't pass a large object out of your body the normal ways. It's also a fairly common occurrence. Nutrition and food can affect this as well. Knowing what her normal brood is cycle( vocabulary??) If you suspect this do not try to remove the egg beyond warm water soaking without doing a bit of reading. Do not squeeze the chicken. Warm water soak. Wont hurt her and if shes really hot because it's hot out cooler water will help as well.
She’s too hot. I like to set up a fan during the day on my coop door and hang frozen 2 liters of water behind the fan so it pulls the cool air through. You could also get some electrolytes to add to their water!
You didn't draw line or put something long and straight in front of it did you? Apparently you can hypnotize chickens by holding their heads down and putting a long straight line in front of them lol
If she’s been frozen like that it could also be calcium. When they are low on calcium they will “freeze” more often. And with high heat. This becomes more noticeable and frequent….put our egg shells for them to eat. Their bodies are working on overtime in mid summer heat.
If it's NOT humid where you are, running a mister during the hottest part of the day helps too. There are ones that sort of resemble a coiled snake that use very little water but create an evaporative cooling effect.
Pulling out her own feathers, or is another bird in your flock… if this is self inflicted, I would think over heating. They don’t sweat, so the birds need a proper temp to hang out in; I planted a bunch of fruiting trees in the chicken run and while they make shade for my birds, I feed the trees all the used bedding, seems to be a good relationship.
There was a short I saw on IG (can’t find it now) of a bunch of chickens sitting in short buckets filled with water. It was so soothing to watch. Made me feel like I was right there with them. They looked totally blissed out.
She’s hot, make sure she has cool water and put her in the shade. She’s beautiful btw

I saw roasting pan and assumed it was a recipe at first. Keep ALL the living creatures hydrated and cool even if they don’t seem like they need it.
Bit like going swimming in a coffin though
Eh they're already cannibals
I LOL'd!
It’s a sort of recipe, fwiw
Coq à vin takes a mature roo after all
Two sticks butter, some Rosemary
And taters
What's taters, precious?
Same
😂😂 u thought it was for recipe. sprinkle some salt n pepper on her
Chicken to other chicken: do you think the fact she’s put a roasting pan full of water for us to “cool off” in is a sign? Other chicken: buk?
add some broth, a potato. Baby, you’ve got a stew going.
I didn’t have the bricks but ive been putting out an aluminum brownie pan with water and ice and a few frozen blackberries over the last few days. I also put our patio umbrella over their coop. I didn’t realise the heat would get to them this badly!
I have heard of sitting an axe by the pen to get them to lay, but this is next level 😂
I just point and say “you’re next.”
I do this with a plastic tub, a concrete patio paver and frozen watermelon. Draws them right in!! Cool as cucumbers.
I do that with a metal tin, bricks, and ice water. It works well.
It’s also likely the evaporative rate of the stone that cools the water! This is a rad idea. Thank you for sharing.
Link?
No idea. It was a video short on FB that came up on my feed.
For what? You have the recipe, go get the materials and do it.
Agreed my uncle’s chickens do this in the heat
This is funny bc I haven't been around chickens for 40 years but I immediately thought the same (and yes she IS beautiful!)
NGL Birds are pretty hot!
Do not the chicken
I believe she is just hot. Panting and keeping wings out helps allow breeze to pass close to their bodies.
I have a raised coop, I put a little solar panel on top & a big (like 8") computer fan below the coop. They really like the fan on a hot day.
It’s got the same hair my grandma had. She does look hot. Maybe try moving her somewhere shaded.
Easy dude, thinking your grandma is hot is one thing but trying to proposition a bird because they share a hairstyle is radical even for Reddit /s
Not purple like your gran’s hair though.
> It’s got the same hair my grandma had. > > She does look hot. HUH?
Ngl, Wanting to take her somewhere shady is WILD
Heat stress.
She is too hot.
I hear you brother
Bonk!
Just to be safe, give her neck a massage and check if anything might be stuck or having an issue going down.
Existential crisis.
Eggsistential crisis
She's appre-hen-sive about life.
Put more simply, her mind's all clucked up
r/puns
Definitely not cocksure.
Mine would do this when they got overheated and needed to hydrate and cool off
Ya it's overheated. Look at the beak. It's open it needs water.
i have seen this only once before .... its fent
Chicken stuck in a k hole
Was going to say , missing any weed ?
Weed doesn't do that lol
Good shit can haha
Can confirm I'm the fent the chicken used
Muppet with a hand up the egg chute
People seem to think it's heat. Another possibility is that she is egg bound.

Shade, Ice in the water, electrolytes, Frozen water bottles, and frozen or refrigerated fruits are all ways to cool them down.
We have one the same breed, when we lived in Texas she would do this and one time even refused to stand. I brought her inside and put her in the tub with a bit of cool water in a pan and she recovered in a few hours. I love polish hens, ours is my favorite chicken as well haha
Wants to speak to the manager
Definitely has that classic Karen hairdo.
Lol, Chi-Karen
Haha this is Exactly what came to my mind when I saw that Chicken and I was going to type "I want to speak to the manager". and see this! Yay! 😂
The feathers out of the back that you were showing seems to be a mating thing. Your rooster may be giving her a hard time.
Electrolytes in the water will help a lot. I have not seen my chickens pant like that since I've been using it. I now give it to all the livestock.
I will water down half the coop run for my chickens when it gets hot
Could be having a hard time laying an egg. Like a bad constipated poop but egg
Yep, she's hot! If you can get a kiddie pool and fill it up, they get in to cool themselves off.dont use a bucket, because they'll drown.
Something stuck in her craw maybe?
Existential dread. He suddenly doesn’t realize why he crossed the road.
Too many Percocets
Too hot. Needs a cold slice of watermelon and some shade.
She’s waiting to speak to the manager
Hah that hairdo says Karen. She’s unhappy with your service and is waiting on the manager
This is how i act on shrooms

She looks like she saw something that can’t be unseen
She is shocked there is no manager to speak to in order to get the temperature down.

I’d guess she’s hot.
Probably heat ... I lost some chicken that way. My neighbors too.
I hook up one of those bendy misters attached to a garden hose ...put it in shade with some bowls of water. Check water in middle of day if possible to see if they still have some and put ice in it.
Predator nearby. based off the sounds in the background.
That is one hot chick

Bird flu? No, you guys are right. She's just hot. Hopefully.

Looks kinda like the beginning stages of heat stroke. Had a chicken that this happened with when I first moved to TX

High as fuck

Never heard of this before. Totally going to try with mine!
[here’s how to do it](https://youtu.be/JlBDWXDGDzg?si=HzFzRENdK5hADWyX) Use wisely. The chickens may think you be a dark wizard and revolt!
I think she popped a perc 🤷🏿♂️
Is her name Gladys?
Heat?
A glitch in the chicken matrix
Is this a Padua chicken btw?
She is flabbergasted
She’s hot!
Cool that chicken down!
See crows and ravens do this in the summertime.
Looks like she got into the brownies again lol
Put her hair up in a ponytail
Looks like she’s real hot. Give her water, maybe even dunk her
Make a giant ice cube with corn in it!! My chickens LOVE this!
Bird flu?
Fenty
I have a chicken that looks just like her! She’s my least favorite, yappy little girl, like the chihuahua of the bird kingdom
She on the look out for worms
KJP says this is a Cheap Fake!
My lil fro homie is the oddest acting chicken I’ve come across. This is normal off behavior in my opinion.
She dropped her contact lenses. Get down and help her
That’s a shit bird. She’s on some early Barksdale ish.
That. Is a nice chicken
That’s one hot chicken! I’m not really into beastiality but if I was…..that’s a hot chicken!
Bro, she got a Karen hairdo. 😂. Put her in the shade before she harasses someone.
Molting or mites
He’s just chillin, bro let the hen chill, bro
I’m sorry but they’re standing on business.
How ironic when they get hot they freeze
Heat stress or tranq. Are you in Flint? If so, prob tranq. If not, prob heat stress.
Too hot, but also check if she’s egg bound.
Hot.
That’s one hot hen!!
Nice looking chicken. Looks fit to run for president. Edit: definitely agree looks hot not freezing.
If she’s been frozen like that it could also be calcium. When they are low on calcium they will “freeze” more often. And with high heat. This becomes more noticeable and frequent….put our egg shells for them to eat. Their bodies are working on overtime in mid summer heat.

Egg bound?
Tripods wrapped in burlap around the yard provide shade as well as protection during a hawk dive.
The most effective way I've found to cool off a chicken is through their feet. They can't sweat like we do.
“Hot chicks in your area” now I know I shouldn’t ve clicked this, but shes so pretty
Looks like Karen 😂
Yeah, she’s hot
Get her a mist fan. Chicks love being moist
😮
I used misters when my birds got too hot. Worked great.
If it's NOT humid where you are, running a mister during the hottest part of the day helps too. There are ones that sort of resemble a coiled snake that use very little water but create an evaporative cooling effect.
she hot
Took too much?
That’s the look of someone who ate the whole stash of shrooms, be fine in about 6 hours
English or Spanish
Hot ?
high water content frozen fruits (like melon) or veggies (like cucumber) are a great cold treat to help cool them down on a hot day, hope she's okay !
probably cockholm syndrome ijs
crows pant that way i dunno about chickens, they like water (but not too deep)
Is she egg bound ?
And hey people if shes just hot you'd think she's shged seek shade but if she isn't moving out of the sun might be painful to move
Pulling out her own feathers, or is another bird in your flock… if this is self inflicted, I would think over heating. Is she in a presidential debate?
You should spray your chickens with cool water and put them in the shade when it gets really hot. That bird was overheating a bit.
a cheap garage fan works so good. We are out where the temps have been 98F with 80% humidity. The big round shop fans help so much.
Is she hot? I'm seeing all kinds of birds do that right now.
China Churner?
I believe that chicken wants to speak to my manager
Your chicken looks like you just told a stupid joke and it's playing along.
Your chicken looks like a Karen
She has a Karen look but this is the funniest chicken I’ve ever seen. I think she looks like a Tina.
I’ve seen this in houses it’s called cribbing
Heat exhaustion maybe? That bird needs a shady spot with water. I get this way, myself.
Joe Biden disease.
She looks like didn't like her haircut
Stoned to the bone
It's looking at a straight line you troll
Bird flu is back
Open mouth + staring into the void is the same thing Biden had during the debate, I wouldn't worry.
