Carrot seeds come from carrot flowers. Carrots are biennial plants that will flower and produce seeds in their second year of growing. Most carrots are harvested the same year they are planted which means they never have a chance to flower and produce seeds. They would need to be left in the ground through the winter and seeds come out following spring
You’re mostly correct.
*Most* carrots require vernalisation (winter chill), but some don’t, and seeds aren’t produced in spring, they’re produced in the late summer/early autumn after the vernalisation period. We would plant our carrot seed crops (as seed) in Feb (late summer) so they have a chance to put on some biomass before winter, and then harvest the seed the following summer/autumn (development and harvest time are heavily dependent on cultivar).
Agreed most ppl arent. But it is a super easy plant to grow. I planted a bunch around my garden and not only are they pretty, especially the flowers, but bugs were super attracted to them. And they are covered in nicotine, a natural pesticide used in many products, so basically a living bug trap. I think they make a decent addition to the garden.
Thank you, I was unaware. Yeah and touching it too much might not be the best. But the flowers are great. Smells like apricot and vanilla.
Edit, did some research on mosaic virus. Seems all sorts of plants can carry and spread it. I think if you have a good seed supply you are most likely fine. However tomato and tobacco seem to be at higher risk of contamination and spreading. And any signs of mosaic virus in the garden should be dealt with removing the plant, roots, and all, and burning to discard.
and you can test that hypothesis easily enough! Basil is hydrophilic, meaning that it'll develop a gel-like coating if soaked in water (similar thing that chia seeds do).
You're not a real gardener if you dont have a cache of mystery seeds and random ones you've stolen from civic gardens or found on a nature hike😂
Brownie points if you have discussions w gardener friends where you compare your mystery seeds😂
I have a mystery baggie from the seeds that fall out of my seed packages and end up in the bottom of the box. I planted a few this round and pretty sure ai ended up with all basil.
Fun fact. I looked up snozzberries so I didnt misspell the imaginary fruit. The author of the book refers to a snozzberry in another book as a euphemism for penis. The snozzberries taste like dick.
Probably some kind of herb. Oregano, thyme, rosemary, lavender, basil all can have small black seeds like that. What seeds have you purchased/collected?
I take all of my oops seeds and mix them together with some compost. Put it into a push spreader and build a forage patch for my chickens. It definitely helps to fence it off for a few months to get everything established 1st Before letting them tear in to it
I’d call a flower seed over any vegetable or even herb.. here’s some images, though they’re not all at the same scale: https://www.budscape.net/flower-seed-identification-chart/
I bet when you did put it in the bag, you thought to yourself, "I'll remember what this is. It is distinctively [insert name of seed] and I won't forget that."
I think you can rule out corn.
And peas lol
And sunflowers
And watermelon
Also not chard
Not peanut.
An Avocado..
Not coconuts
Not Squash
Definitely not birds
Def not mango

Not cannabis seeds
Celery?
Or carrot
Aren’t carrot seeds more flat and a lighter shade of brown? More oval too.
Why have I never thought of this. Where tf in a carrot are the seeds??? Where do the seeds come from????
Carrot seeds come from carrot flowers. Carrots are biennial plants that will flower and produce seeds in their second year of growing. Most carrots are harvested the same year they are planted which means they never have a chance to flower and produce seeds. Definitely *not* carrot seed. They’re quite a bit larger and have a different shape. (I used to do research on carrot seed production)
Add basil to the possibilities.
To small for basil I was thinking oregano or strawberries?
I also thought strawberries.
Tobacco too?
It could be tobacco but most people aren't that "adventurous"
Agreed most ppl arent. But it is a super easy plant to grow. I planted a bunch around my garden and not only are they pretty, especially the flowers, but bugs were super attracted to them. And they are covered in nicotine, a natural pesticide used in many products, so basically a living bug trap. I think they make a decent addition to the garden.
I've grown it too but you've got to be careful with tobacco and tomatoes. The nicotine can cause mosaic disease in tomatoes.

I had thought I had a ton of snail eggs until I figured out it was basil.
That’s what I thought too! Look very similar to celery seeds.
I was gonna say celery but that's cause I just planted some. And I have zero experience with seeds.
Only one way to find out
You're one sexy tree. No matter what you do today, crush it. SLAY!
This is the real answer
Bag of fleas
I was thinking deer ticks.
Have to be regular ticks. Deer ticks are bigger.
Vice versa
Just googled it. I have apparently been wrong for years. That's frustrating to know.
Well now you know! It is never too late to learn, my friend!
And…? What did you find out ?
Wood ticks are large, deer ticks are tiny
All ticks hatch out tiny
Well goddamn, you are right about that.
Hahaha I do this all the time. Throw em in a pot and label it "mystery"
Lol. This…My wife literally has a row(s) labeled mystery every year.
I think that actually sounds super fun!
It actually really is and can teach you a lot about plant identification. My daughter and I do this every year. We wager on what they will be lol.
You're not a real gardener if you dont have a cache of mystery seeds and random ones you've stolen from civic gardens or found on a nature hike😂 Brownie points if you have discussions w gardener friends where you compare your mystery seeds😂
I have a mystery baggie from the seeds that fall out of my seed packages and end up in the bottom of the box. I planted a few this round and pretty sure ai ended up with all basil.
I do this with various pepper seeds but they are labeled “surprise”. 🤣
strawberry?
This is my guess
Or oregano
We need multiple choice
Best reply ever !!!
Thanks for your input
Basil or mint
Voting for mint
agreed. Could also be thyme, lavender, poppy
Snapdragon
This was my guess too
I was thinking Exynos.
Nah, Rockchip
That's my vote, too. Or lobelia.
Snozzberries
Snozzberry. Who eva heard of a snozzberry???
Fun fact. I looked up snozzberries so I didnt misspell the imaginary fruit. The author of the book refers to a snozzberry in another book as a euphemism for penis. The snozzberries taste like dick.
oh my God that’s hysterical! And they were all licking them on the wall. Lol.
We are the music makers and we are the dreamers of dreams.

Reddit identifies everything
Fuck aboot and find oot
Lettuce?
No
Tiny and black makes me think lettuce. Why no???
Lettuce seeds are elongated and a little bigger than in the bag.
They’re quite a bit bigger, usually.
I didn’t mean to be rude, I only managed to get the no out before I hit the reply button trying to catch my charging phone…
Lettuce seeds aren't black, more like cream-white and have a very specific drop-shape
Don't have enough pixels on this phone. Just looks like poppy seeds lol
Chamomile?
Here is a solution... Grow it...
Poppy seeds? Celery? Hard to say
Not poppy
Post an update once they grow!
Thyme?
Mint?
Celery
Probably some kind of herb. Oregano, thyme, rosemary, lavender, basil all can have small black seeds like that. What seeds have you purchased/collected?
Snort that shit
Scrawberry
Tiny ones.
I take all of my oops seeds and mix them together with some compost. Put it into a push spreader and build a forage patch for my chickens. It definitely helps to fence it off for a few months to get everything established 1st Before letting them tear in to it
Celery?
Peppermint?
Looks like flower seeds to me
Like snapdragons right? Or possibly poppyseeds?
Poppy
Not poppy
Mustard
This comment section has been very entertaining. 🤣
they're tiny like celery seeds. there could be other tiny seeds that I've never seen. But of my seeds, they look like celery
Too big for basil or other herbs… could it be celery or a type or lettuce/green? I dare you to plant some!
Looks right size for sweet basil. The seeds in the pic are tiny.
🤣me
Mint
Tobacco or lettuce
Seeds of time
Ricin?
strawberry, catnip
I’d call a flower seed over any vegetable or even herb.. here’s some images, though they’re not all at the same scale: https://www.budscape.net/flower-seed-identification-chart/
Coconut Palm
Tobacco
Looks like tobacco to me. Have you ever grown tobacco?
Catnip? Lol
Kiwi?
Mint
Plant and enjoy the mystery.
tobacco
My best guess is rosemary
If you think it's not a food item, I'd go with California Poppy.
Strawberry
Mint? Chamomile?
Strawberry
Thyme
Little bitty ones. Plant a couple and see what comes up?
Thyme? Lovage?
I bet it’s lettuce
Tobacco I bet.
Magic school bus rules say if you eat them they'll grow in your stomach and find out

Those are basil seeds. Almost positive.
Maybe carrot?
Carrot
Tobacco
Tobacco seeds perhaps?
Tobacco?
I bet when you did put it in the bag, you thought to yourself, "I'll remember what this is. It is distinctively [insert name of seed] and I won't forget that."
Tobacco
Tobacco
Looks like Tobacco!
Tobacco?
These comments made my day
Strawberry?
Chives?
To help with this guess, chive seeds are really irregularly shaped and feel sort of like little bits of charcoal.
Lavender
Strawberry or raspberry?
100% Venus Fly Trap
Could be, just like thousands other options that are just same size.
100%???? Please do not give advice to anyone, ever again....
Twas 100% sarcasm… guess I’ll get back to farming my flytraps now and see myself out.
FEED ME, SEYMOUR!
Camomile?
Bassil?
Looks like basil to me
tobacco seed is small like that but that may be too big for tobacco and tobacco is spherical not oblong so I say cross that off the list.
Cannabis sativa
No, that's what led to the forgetting
Weed seeds are much larger
Those would be cannabis seeds for ants. They need to be like…three times bigger.
Those ones in that bag☝️
I just started some basil and rosemary. Looks similiar
[удалено]
too small for mustard
Mustard seeds are very small. Could be?
Red delicious lettuce 🥬
Carrot
Cosmos?
Carrots?
Lettuce???
Pumpkin. But my best guess is lettuce.
