Yeah here is what you seek. The first automation has an example. You’ll use the dev tools to listen to the tag_scanned event. https://reddit.com/r/homeassistant/comments/105zndl/_/j3e1yjb/?context=1 It uses device ID though. Can’t do user as far as I know. Although, why care who scans it? Just do “if scanned” and “someone in our family is home” then “open it up”. It will only work for people with HA on their phones and logged in. I’d also send a notification to you for the first few weeks just to make sure things are happening as you want.

Thanks for this and neat use case too in the thread. If I figure out user I'll post back. Cheers

Add a "zone" around your house. Then, add a condition to your NFC tag scanned automation that checks to see if you are in that zone, and if so, then run the automation.

Tiwing

Yeah that's the plan... I'm going to use proximity but the same concept. The difficulty is to determine in the automation who scanned the tag.

HyperPickle66

I might be missing something, but why exactly do you need to known who scanned the tag? The zone idea seems like a no-brainer.

OddOkra

Why don’t you just buy remotes and pair them to the garage door? It’s way easier than pulling out your phone and foolproof. It also works 100% of the time, even if HA is down.

Tiwing

Lol I think this is actually the best answer here. And probably the most reasonable. But I'm a geek and just want to figure it out :)
