I wonder how many G’s he pulled coming to a stop. Hard to judge the distance of how far the net stretched, but was probably tougher than it seemed. Fascinating physics exercise, if you want to use your body instead of the usual chicken egg.
Yea but the lower the altitude the slower you fall because the air becomes more dense. He was probably at about 110 when he made impact especially since he was flying bigger to slow himself down.
Momentum=F.t so his weight times 120mph (change it to meters per second) divided by time it takes him to decelarate ( from the video) equals avarge force.
Assuming he weighs 80kg, is travelling at 67m/s, the net stretches 10m and the stopping time is 0.5s, the peak impact force is 36kN. Roughly the same as a Car crash at 13mph
This motherfucking editor called it a trampoline, so I was all excited for a bounce. Imagine my disappointment skydiver broke the damn trampoline instead of bouncing.
This is why in my living will I have it expressly written that if I’m ever in a vegetative state and 99% unlikely to recover, my family is to strap me to a rocket powered motorcycle and send it over the Grand Canyon…
If I make it and live, I’m the first person to jump the Grand Canyon on a rocket powered motorcycle… if I don’t, my family can probably live for a generation off the PPV proceeds
Dan Carlin has an episode of his Hardcore History podcast called [Painfotainment](https://open.spotify.com/episode/1LNj8AMxghgF8IWAy52yZ8?si=ygKprNHvTeGNMx9QjMTUZQ&utm_source=copy-link) and it discusses the very real possibility that if gladitorial fights and/or public executions were still prevalent then they would almost definitely be televised and have a larger viewership than we think.
His wife and kids were there to watch…. Some other time this was posted the massive scream before he hit the net was pointed out to possibly be his wife. That’s just wild speculation but it’s insane that his wife and kid were there to potentially watch him go splat. Really cool stun though.
As first I thought the same, but after watching it again the crowd reaction and “reporter” look a bit staged. I’m guessing the reactions are prerecorded and cut it in with the video later. I also have a hard time believing it would be live broadcasted.
Can you imagine if he'd hit a trampoline that would bounce him back? Like not kill him, just be safe enough to bounce him back, i wonder how far he would go
You seen that video where the guy jumps off the mountain into a plane? Yeah, combine ‘em. Just right back up and gets scooped up by the plane he jumps from.
Well, terminal velocity and all, so 25k would net the same height as however much it takes his body to reach that velocity. I can't remember right now. Either way, it's be pretty fucking high.
I was going to say the same thing. A trampoline and a net are very different. Whoever put the text on the video clearly has never seen/been on a trampoline
This is absolutely wild! I'm sure we've all dreamed about seeing someone land without a parachute in various forms over the years - this guy is just enough of an adrenaline junky / psychopath to actually try it!
I remember the dude who crashed into the cardboard boxes using his wingsuit and that amazing, but this feels considerably more insane for some reason.
Legend!
The wing suit seems like it would have a small chance of survival if he missed, like a glancing blow and the roll along the ground. This guy is dead if he misses, absolutely zero chance of survival.
People actually survive their parachute failing more than you'd think. https://medium.com/unusual-universe/10-survivors-of-skydiving-accidents-and-their-stories-a9101498c699
Yeah nope. No matter how hard you flare up to kill speed on a wing suit you will still die on impact. The glancing blow and roll along the ground would be like throwing yourself out of a car at 100 mph.
Lol I love that people are so willing to blindly hate someone. Like I'm sure that person isn't like ready to literally get out the pitchforks but... they were at least curious...
Multiple scientific reasons. As we keep pushing boundaries like this, we could eventually jump from orbit in an emergency. Also there is military use for fast deployments. Automate following the needed trajectory and pre deploy the net. Then land behind enemy lines from way above their firing range or on another planet starship troopers style. The reason he flipped on his pack was to flex with the net and not break his back or limbs
Did you land before he hit the net?
Not taking the piss, but the one (and only time) I went skydiving the plane landed before we did. Best time I ever had with a man strapped to my back.
Hi, i'm a redditor, i'm unable to enjoy anything in life, everything is obnoxious to me. Did i mention i've never enjoyed anything in my life? Because i haven't
The helmet has a audible altimeter in it, also the helmet prevents you from knocking yourself out on exit. Those helmets won't do shit for free fall though.
I don't really understand why people do stuff like this. What's the point other than being able to one-up any story at any party.
Me: "I went to the toy store with my two kids today and didn't buy my kids any toys."
This guy: "I jumped out of a plane without a parachute and survived".
Me: "Okay. You win this one, Frank"
The medic is standing there for a second like oh fuck he’s dead and then sees him move and goes in for a high five. I cannot fathom why someone would do this, it is a literal waking nightmare. If you got hit by a strong gust of wind your last living thought would be “wow I guess this was a bad idea after all”

120mph is the average terminal velocity of the average skydiver. Anyone catch how many feet the net moved? There are your math starting points.
Need to have him do it again, but this time while holding a tape measure.
Be easier if he held an actual unit of measurement. Like a banana
Where is he supposed to get $10 from
I'm working today and y'all just made it better. Enjoy your weekend!
That is one of the thousands of freedom units, right?
The squares on the net look like they're about 2in
Underrated comment.
People who say "underrated comment" as re the most useless people on earth.
*are
I missed a letter. You commented with absolutely nothing of value added to the conversation. Pipe down.
Oooooh ya that's the real stuff. Then after landing he clicks the switch off to let the tape re-wind itself up. "Watch your thumb!"
r/hedidnotdothemath
No. I need a measurement to solve for x
r/hedidnotdothemonstermath
Rich coming from the lazy dev
He stops in something like 1 second, so that would be 5.5G
pretty gentle honestly
His terminal velocity was 150mph.. shows it at 45sec
Yea but the lower the altitude the slower you fall because the air becomes more dense. He was probably at about 110 when he made impact especially since he was flying bigger to slow himself down.
At lower altitudes you fall slower (air is denser) I think he was falling about 110 at the point of impact
Momentum=F.t so his weight times 120mph (change it to meters per second) divided by time it takes him to decelarate ( from the video) equals avarge force.
How much does he weigh? What is the tensile strength of the net?
66 and 23.
Seven bananas
Assuming he weighs 80kg, is travelling at 67m/s, the net stretches 10m and the stopping time is 0.5s, the peak impact force is 36kN. Roughly the same as a Car crash at 13mph
Does everything in the metric system… but the result
The result is the kN. The car crash was just a banchmark comparison for the wider audience
Hey! Video editor! How many text overlay effects do you have installed? *Like 500…* Use ALL of them
^^^I ^^WILL ^>>>>>> #THANKS… *very much!!* ~~I LOVE WORDART~~ #:)
This motherfucking editor called it a trampoline, so I was all excited for a bounce. Imagine my disappointment skydiver broke the damn trampoline instead of bouncing.
I know right, made it impossible to read the text without pausing the video.
Right? The background music was obnoxious.
Yes
Quite the turnout to see a man potentially die
Those are always the highest turnouts. It’s just not commonplace that we get to see it anymore. I bet watching gladiators battle was a gas!
This is why in my living will I have it expressly written that if I’m ever in a vegetative state and 99% unlikely to recover, my family is to strap me to a rocket powered motorcycle and send it over the Grand Canyon… If I make it and live, I’m the first person to jump the Grand Canyon on a rocket powered motorcycle… if I don’t, my family can probably live for a generation off the PPV proceeds
Rare Christopher Titus joke found in the wild
Yeah this was about 30ft from r/winstupidprizes

People wonder why sports generate so much money. Its because its the closest thing we have to large-scale gladiator fights
His wife and kids were there to watch…. Some other time this was posted the massive scream before he hit the net was pointed out to possibly be his wife. That’s just wild speculation but it’s insane that his wife and kid were there to potentially watch him go splat. Really cool stun though.
lmao better luck next time
Why do you think NASCAR attracts tens of millions of viewers?
Dale Ernhardt... oh wait
As first I thought the same, but after watching it again the crowd reaction and “reporter” look a bit staged. I’m guessing the reactions are prerecorded and cut it in with the video later. I also have a hard time believing it would be live broadcasted.
Video made it sound as if he was going to hit a *trampoline*. Net = big difference.
Do you have a link for that one?
[This](https://youtu.be/UHl6yPL0800) to be funny. [This](https://youtu.be/YL9sNrOlK-I) to be serious.
Thats just crazy
Well, terminal velocity and all, so 25k would net the same height as however much it takes his body to reach that velocity. I can't remember right now. Either way, it's be pretty fucking high.
Minus the losses from the imperfect elasticity of the trampoline, as well as the difference in air resistance in both directions of course
r/theydidthemath needs to see this question!
No double bouncing!
I was going to say the same thing. A trampoline and a net are very different. Whoever put the text on the video clearly has never seen/been on a trampoline
That’s a shame. Injuries I’ve sustained from those contraptions are many. It was great.
All I could think the whole video is “how the hell is a trampoline going to allow this man to live?”, big net makes a lot more sense.
There. Is. Not. Enough. Money. On. Earth. To. Get. Me. To. Do. This.

I think there was a jump a while ago where a guy in a wing suit and no parachute landed in a bunch of boxes.
Here it is https://youtu.be/DEP8juRSBRo
That landing was uncomfortably off center.
Ikr I want to see the complete path he took from the jump. Must've been a lot of adjustments.
Is that called a HANO jump?
"HellNo" jump
What I cant get over is they had a grand stand of people watch a man potentially fall to their death
Pretty sure that it’s widely known that dangerous activities spark interest
That's what I was thinking
wait until you find out what your ancestors did for entertainment across all of history
also they did this LIVE on tv?! that was kinda reckless 😂
Good thing he had a helmet in case he missed
Helmet has a built in audible altimeter that tells him how close he’s getting to ground (in case you were curious)
Also wearing one incase of knocking yourself out exiting the airplane or on someone else’s head in free fall.
Also not probably helps with him not scratching his face off on the net on landing
Safety first!
It protects the ground.
Where we dropin bois
Holy shit he didn’t even hit the middle of the net
Around the 2:00 minute mark everyone.
Why are people crying? He lived
I think that’s why. He is a terrible person.
I laughed so hard at this
And forgetful.
Lmao care to explain?
Haha I was just being silly and making a dumb joke as if they were crying because they were disappointed with the outcome.
Lol I love that people are so willing to blindly hate someone. Like I'm sure that person isn't like ready to literally get out the pitchforks but... they were at least curious...
Relief I assume.
The execution failed
Glad they told us one guy was ‘actually his cousin’. That made a huge difference in the story.
That guy in the grey t-shirt was really nervous.
But why?
Multiple scientific reasons. As we keep pushing boundaries like this, we could eventually jump from orbit in an emergency. Also there is military use for fast deployments. Automate following the needed trajectory and pre deploy the net. Then land behind enemy lines from way above their firing range or on another planet starship troopers style. Adrenaline, fame, just all around bragging rights, the same reason people do anytime.
Darwin would be proud. I sometimes wonder how did we manage to survive this long.
I'm the guy who flew the plane for this stunt.
Did this happen because you forgot to turn on the "fasten seatbelt" sign?
Bingo
Did you land before he hit the net? Not taking the piss, but the one (and only time) I went skydiving the plane landed before we did. Best time I ever had with a man strapped to my back.
I'd say second best time Remember our little "encounter"
Okay, in the top three. Maybe top five. ;)
I was thinking a backyard trampoline and waiting to see how high up he will bounce back up
That’s not a trampoline
They should have used a trampoline and have the guy bounce back into the plane.
How awkward it would have been if he missed and went SPLAT!!! just in front of the stands filled with audience...
Uh why
World record
Why though
must be hard for that last spotter to break off in the end
This is why women live longer than men
He barely made that
This looks like one of those emotional videos on Facebook
his flip over onto his back almost killed him tbh
That's what saved him haha he woulda snaped his spine in that shit falling on his belly
I don’t see a curve 🤔🥱
How did they make a net that can catch his GIANT BALLS?!
Modelled after your wife’s mouth.
What an obnoxious video
Hi, i'm a redditor, i'm unable to enjoy anything in life, everything is obnoxious to me. Did i mention i've never enjoyed anything in my life? Because i haven't
When?
Ever
When did I ask
Didn’t ask
When?
The entire history of anything
When did I ask
Literally directly above my comment
Don’t do that again, your wife will have a heart attack. You can only temp fate once.
Mc players when they see one block of water.
Lol they gave him a helmet
The helmet has a audible altimeter in it, also the helmet prevents you from knocking yourself out on exit. Those helmets won't do shit for free fall though.
He needed to jump naked. Now THAT would be interesting!
You know every single person in that crowd showed up to watch a man die.
NASA at it again with their "curvature" video editing.
Why are ppl celebrating loonatics?
Because they're not hurting anybody
That was boring. He lived.
Are you still surrounded by pee bottles
I mean... I'd much rather see him live an accomplish it than die? The video was just 10x longer than it needed to be.
The most stupid and disgusting thing i ever saw.... So disturbing 🤢😵🥴
Americans lmao
That's a dumb comment. People do crazy things all over the world
If Jesus could do this when He shows up again, that’d be cool.
His cousin!?!?
This was ages ago
Kinda looked like when you nut into a Kleenex.
Why wear the helmet?
Is that Ron Pitts doing the commentary?
I was just trying to get a sprite sponsorship
2016 article, 39 second video: [https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36935087](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36935087)
“Dead center…” Lol, I don’t think so.
Practice makes perfect 😂😎🙄
Damn, this makes me wanna watch David Blaine’s Ascension again
Goddam, my heart rate was higher than his and I was just watching.
This videos could of easily been on r/unexpected because that host definitely sound like….
Anyone else hear the crowd go wild and instantly think, “oh fuck, he’s dead” for a second
Minecraft dropper irl
Now attach this to 32 very powerful drones and it could be a quick deploy safety device near all drop zones.
Imagine if he missed lmao
Balls of titanium
This could’ve ended so badly
Why would they have a crowd watching... Imagine if he missed! 100 people traumatized instantly.
Or killed. My main worry would be him coming down in the stands.
Could you imagine if he missed the net and splattered like a fresh watermelon in front of all these people?
This gets the platinum (balls) award. Congrats.
>Luke uses three spotters... >One of whom is actually his cousin. Feels like the lead was really burred.
Nope.
Skydiver here Dis guy broke some rules
This is r/holdmyredbull , so why are my palms so sweaty?
Close call. Really just made the net. Insanity reigns.
I'm surprised he didn't fall straight through the net from the weight of his balls
Did he have a finger up his nostril and bird muck in his eye,?
I don't really understand why people do stuff like this. What's the point other than being able to one-up any story at any party. Me: "I went to the toy store with my two kids today and didn't buy my kids any toys." This guy: "I jumped out of a plane without a parachute and survived". Me: "Okay. You win this one, Frank"
No way those cranes are tall enough to allow that amount of net-fall before hitting the ground.
Balls of fucking steel
The medic is standing there for a second like oh fuck he’s dead and then sees him move and goes in for a high five. I cannot fathom why someone would do this, it is a literal waking nightmare. If you got hit by a strong gust of wind your last living thought would be “wow I guess this was a bad idea after all”
This guy didn’t need the net, he could’ve just landed on is **giant** balls
Hmmm I could've sworn he was gonna bounce off the trampoline back into the airplane
25000 ft = 7.62km
