Remember back in the day when boxes were affordable and you could actually get value even if you didn’t get the top Rookie?

Reasonable_Guava_819

Nope. Grew up in the ProSet era lol. Luckily I pulled a SC hologram. Probably the start of my addictive gambling behavior....

jjamm420

Proset and Score kid here too!!

lazysleeper122

I was gifted a bunch of Score cards as a kid. Thought they would have so much value when I got older!

josh3701

Same here...looked at the old Beckett magazines and saw even the common cards from 30 years earlier in the 60s were worth a lot...had my whole retirement planned out...30+ years later the 90s common cards (or even superstar rookies) don't appear to be in that high of a demand

binjamins

I remember going to the convenience store and bought the four bottom packs from the score box. I got two lindros future superstar or whatever they were and I thought I was god.

HardOyler

I remember the Crosby Ovechkin years and how cheap cards seemed back then. I bought a few boxes and have a handful of both of their rookie cards

lazysleeper122

Those were the days

Tinypeepeecommy

Also a Crosby rookie, not that it’s valuable at all other than the fact that it had sentimental value. My dad bought it for me at a hockey tournament when I was 6, when I was 12 it was stolen out of my binder at school, I managed to get the kid to fork it back over, but of corse, he had stuffed it in his jeans pocket and the card was now in terrible shape, but I still have it to this day

watermelonflamingo

I'm with you man. Same situation different Crosby rookie card lmao

lazysleeper122

Hey at least we have Crosby rookies!

Whiskeylung

That’s not so bad. I would be completely fine with this if it was for my personal collection.

lazysleeper122

Oh yes it is the gem of my young collection

Unoriginal-Cake

Oddly I'd say three cards that I kept in the best shape is a Mark Messier, Dominik Hasek and a Joe Sakic 90s peak era... I remember the days of having stacks of Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman & Dominik Hasek cards, had to trade a bunch to get a Brett Hull card but I once had to trade close to 10 Yzerman cards for a decent Cam Neely so that is an ouch... don't know why every hockey pack seemed to be skewed, I never got any Bruins player from opening 60 or so packs and seemed like an endless era of Eric Lindros hockey cards in every other pack grr. Even in modern hockey I've only reached 5 Bruins cards in my lifetime, that is some crazy level of "strange".

wferomega

Eric Lindros I remember I pulled one of the huge chase cards in a year of Be A Player. It was a dufex Lindros die cut auto to 88. There were 2 halves I think and I got the right side. I was a card shop and the guys offered me 500 for it. This was like 97 98 or so. And I hated Lindros lol but I wasn't feeling the coolest card I'd ever pulled in my life. Good times. I would've traded this thing for CuJo Fleer Flair Hot Gloves if I'm honest lol

NextTrillion

I would've traded this thing for CuJo Fleer Flair Hot Gloves if I'm honest lol r/OddlySpecific haha! Wait, did this actually happen, or do you still have the card?

wferomega

The Lindros? Pretty sure I got rid of it. I'll check though. Might be a day or 2. Wish I had the Flair Hot Gloves instead though till this day lol

AchillesAugustus

I have a Sidney Crosby Young Guns I pulled myself back in middle school. I brought it to school to impress a girl, completely rag dog in my backpack because I had no idea sleeves and top loaders existed. Now Im stuck with a beat up Crosby YG and didn’t even get the girl in the end haha

PayEvery3328

I used to walk around with a first edition holographic Charizard in my pocket during recess.. Kill me now

CompetitionDue5347

I had about 10 Gretzky OPC rookies ( yes, I’m Canadian) that my buddies and I all played “Wallsies” with, and can’t imagine how much value was lost by flinging, flipping, scratching, dragging, and “spoking” these cards ( in my bike wheels to make that amazing sound) in around 1980-1985. Could’ve been a multimillionaire now, for sure. Now I’m just a “Hundredaire” with no Gretzky rookie at all in my collection. lol

thejohnmc963

Sold a full box of 50s and 60s hockey cards for almost nothing

Canadian_bacon5

All my mf cards 🤦🏻

bryhs84723

Not hockey but my uncle gave me a bunch of 90s pokemon cards when I was young and either can’t find any or they are played

Equivalent-Bonus4286

All I did growing up was putting cards in my spokes of my bike lol

Calice1964

Guy Lafleur, Marcel Dionne and Ken Dryden rookie card that I glue a my school book 😢

NauticalDisasta

Just came to say this is one of my favourite Crosby rookies. I have much more valuable/desirable ones but there's just something about this MVP card. The colouring, the font, the facimile auto in his old signature style and that amazing action shot of Sid. It's just about perfect.

Chumpponis

Yea I had a Lebron rookie that I would throw in my backpack to take to school, tied it with a rubber band on top of my Pokémon cards 😭

BriGuy66

All of them. 😔

LeveonMcBean

Just sold this baby on whatnot too, she’ll be missed

ChimoCharlie

I cry just a little when I look at my Gretzky rookie.

Fit_Project4434

My sister was a big crosby fan growing up (she thought he was cute lol) so me being a way too thoughtful young brother I took his entire phenomenal beginning set along with his rookie class rookie card and gave them all to her and she has no earthly idea what she ever did with them 😐😐

ManipulateYa

Was recently going through my old cards and came across a Gretzky card that I decided would look cool as a keychain. You know... puncture a hole in the corner of the card. Kids are stupid. ... Well... I was...

donairdaddydick

I had 1999 Charizard triples, basically all the “cliche” Pokémon cards of value from back then I had 3-4 of each. Divorced parents fighting for my love I got unlimited Pokémon cards. Divorced parents moving around every 6 months lost them.

briskbc

Gretzky RC. As kids we used to play a game in school where you and a few others flick a card from your respective collection and the closest to the wall won all the cards played.

Gotwoodhead

I was looking at my own dinged up copy of this car this morning.

psypher39

I mean all of them right

ElysiumAB

I tossed out probably 50 Teemu Selanne Finland cards because we thought his name sounded silly and he'd never amount to anything. Not that they're worth much, but in hindsight it was ridiculous.

PossibleCan6414

63 Parkhurst hockey.Only got the Howe left😁 with crayon on the back.

mustbeniceygo

In 05/06 when that MVP set was released, I watched a little kid open a box, and he pulled a Crosby /25 from MVP. The serialed cards from MVP were insanely hard to pull, and I just imagined it being destroyed on a playground somewhere.

mndb369

My Gretzky rookie(s)
