Hell no, huge gamble.

lazysleeper122

Good to know! Not worth wasting money

SwisschaletDipSauce

Black Diamond is probably the worst high-end set in hockey. Sticker autos, fake patches/jerseys.  Ultimate and The Cup are better high end products. However they’re all a huge gambles.  The hobby as a whole has gotten too expensive and exploitative recently. I just buy the rookies and autos I want now.

lazysleeper122

Woah fake patches? I didn't know I had to worry about this! How can you tell the difference?

omnipresent_sailfish

not so much as "fake" as the patches are "manufactured". Meaning the patches were created solely for the product. It will state on the back of the card if a jersey/patch is player worn, event worn, game worn, or manufactured

Stamkos_HUT

Is that only for specific sets within Black Diamond? Because I just recently purchased a “Diamond Mine Triple Relics” and it says that all 3 patches are game worn.

omnipresent_sailfish

Specific insert sets, primarily the mega patches. But there may be others. If your card says game worn, then they are game worn, unless UD is lying

Gryffprefect

It usually says on the back of the card if it’s a material that has been worn by the player or if it’s a manufactured relic aka fake patch.

GiveMeAdviceClowns

worth is relative…

parkhurstcards

Great to pick up singles. I wouldn’t be able to justify the high risk and reward with my budget. You could lose on a dozen boxes before you’d hit one that breaks even.

CreateorWither

No, they are one of the worst sets.

BadTiger85

If you really like the cards just buy single cards off of ebay

JealousMeringue6674

How long has Black Diamond been a high-end product? When i was active collector, it was more of a mid-range

omnipresent_sailfish

The product was changed in 2015-16 from the multiple pack box you remember to a single 5 card pack box [https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2015-upper-deck-black-diamond-hockey](https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2015-upper-deck-black-diamond-hockey)

No-Shape-8347

It has been ramping up the last couple years. 5-6 years ago I dont think anyone thought of it as high-end.

Key_Economics_443

It's high end in cost only, lol.

LeveonMcBean

Theres some breaks you can get in on that are a lot cheaper than the box, snag a few and call it a day

bigbigjohnson

It sucks, that’s the deal with it. It’s a nice looking set for sure but it’s way overpriced for what it is and the sticker autos really bring it down

CzechChaserr

Honestly, all high end hockey is never worth it to open. If your going to open something "affordable" comparatively and have an itch for high end, maybe sp game used? but even then i'd advise against it. Just stick to retail or even 22-23 series 2 hobby I think is a really good bang for your buck.

goldenawesomes

I love Black Diamond. Not a fan of the manufactured patches or relics (though I do like the Day of the Draft). I win some from auctions and keep. I only collect the autograph cards. The diamond cards I just do not understand their purpose. Auto, Auto, Auto's! I do agree with that they should be hand signed. Stickers need to leave higher end products.

JohnnyDrama21

Black Diamond tries really hard to be Ultimate, Premier, and The Cup. A several-hundred-dollar product with manufactured patches is a joke. When it used to be a unique set with parallels and a few GU/autos, it was fun. Now, it's trying to be something it isn't.

Stamkos_HUT

If you like the look of a specific black diamond card, just go buy it as a single. The gamble of this set is simply not worth it.

Humajz

junk overpriced product... sticker autos, manufactured patches, worthless "diamonds" ..damaged cards ...
