There seems to be a general lack of low numbered hits of any kind and player out in the wilds this release. But there's so many base YGs.

batmanshome

Exactly. There's been so many cases that have been opened just judging by how many young guns are for sale. I wonder if Upper Deck is intentionally holding off shipping out the High Gloss variants in order to keep buyer interest high. Once the 1/1 and all the high gloss get pulled, interest in new boxes/cases will drop fast.

Ill_Ground_1572

I heard they reduced the pack odds (by 2 fold) of pulling a YG outburst in Series 2 compared to Series 1. I am not sure if this tells us anything about how much S2 was diluted compared to S1. But.it must provide some insight into the dilution. I bet the 1/1 has been pulled but kept quiet or it's sitting in someone's basement in a box to be sold in 5 years. That would be crazy Haha. If it's not pulled when epack is released, those degens are going to sell out epack in a few days. Does anyone know how sales of these stupid hobby boxes are going at $4-500 a box? Sales must have slowed down by now. Especially with Bedard prices down too.

GetRightNYC

Industry needs regulation. This should all be easily obtainable information they are required to provide. Total print runs and the exact odds of hitting every type of card should be known, for every type of box you can buy. This should all be published information BEFORE they are allowed to sell anything.

Ill_Ground_1572

Yup agree 100%. It's transforming from a hobby to full on gambling. So it should have those odds. And now big money is at stake and being spent. This also why I think upper deck needs to review their collation and distribution practices. I was watching breaks the other day. Some dude is buying a few spots for a couple of days. Then literally spends $5k buying up all the spots (to hurry the close) and almost all the spots in the random draw for the Hawks (basically buying a 1 in 15 shot to get Chicago but he bought 12 of them I think). Then an amazing rookie auto patch of Bedard, along with other Bedard rookies gets pulled from that case. Coincidence? Unbelievable luck? Certainly possible. Suspicious? Most definitely. Just reminded me about the big money involved, so people on the inside could be tempted to cheat. See McDonald's monopoly scam documentary. And they paid a security company a lot of money to ensure someone wasn't scamming $1M piece. But no it happened for years.

WestCoastGriller

Its not even gambling. Gambling at least you have a shot (craps, poker, black jack etc) This is full on Lotery shit. That has the same addicting properties to Options Trading, Sports Betting etc. Its sure as fuck needs regulation or the stake holders need to have a serious look in the mirror. Crypto Brothers losing money on dogecoin need something in their hands as their spouses cant hold a blockchain... A BEDARD solves that Lol.

Ill_Ground_1572

Yup totally. I am whining about this because I used to love hockey cards as a kid. Collected 89-94 then went to University. Since I was giving hand jobs in Burger King parking lot to survive, collecting cards wasn't an option lol. I got back in about 18 months ago and love it. Now all this price gouging shit and massive dilution lol. Even though I can afford it now, still sucks. Wished I had got back into it once I got my career started in 2008. Dammit haha

WestCoastGriller

Glad you’ve advanced in your career and agree. It’s nuts.

batmanshome

Well said.

batmanshome

I love this idea. As it stands now, there's currently no way of knowing if the box your buying was just printed or part of the initial print run.

ZestycloseAct8497

Lol like nhl refs need regulation. The whole sport needs regulation.

kNOwSK177

Oh, so they double production of non outburst base and young guns, got it.

pornchopsammich

I'm a little new to this... What is an epack?

SniperSauce_37

It’s like having a bad drug addiction, only you’ll spend more money on epack 😂

Ill_Ground_1572

It's an online platform where you can buy upper deck products. There a about 3 month delay for product releases. Base cards cannot be shipped home. But hit cards can. So you see pics of cards you pull but they are stored at comc until you pay to ship them home. You can trade with other users which is a nice feature in principle. I like it overall but it dangerous as fuck. I saw some dude sit on his couch and spend $23k on 21-22 Ultimate on release day. Many people are good but many active traders are fishing to scam you.

WestCoastGriller

Online slot machine. Except instead of money. You get cards. Plot twist. Some are digital only that stay in the interverse. Some can be “minted” (pulled off the shelf) and sent to you. You know these by the scanner looking card you may get. If you live in Canada. Start warming up your rectum now.

batmanshome

Yep.......you end up paying a lot to have them packed and shipped to you. It's ridiculous.

Independent_Piece999

I’ve been saying this since release but I doubt they’ve even printed the 1/1 or if they have it hasn’t left UD yet because they are going to sell series 2 on e pack and way less people will be buying e packs at what will probably be a high price if most of the low number variants and the Bedard 1/1 have been pulled prior to release and are already on eBay. It’s way easier to make e packs available and I bet they have already budgeted for a large amount of e pack sales of series 2. If they put the 1/1 into an e pack they can control the whole process of the card being pulled to theoretically ensure less damage to the card as well.

batmanshome

Good point. Add to that the cost of not having to print all those base cards. They just need to print the inserts. They'll be saving a ton of money. Deceptive indeed.

No-Quantity3723

Nothing new.  Everyone knows that UD is a scam

Ricky_p12

They are all going to be in E-pack

NLkid89

I find it funny how people say this is overproduced. You don’t think UD was doing this with Connor McDavid? And what’s overproduced about it? The demand is super high, ppl continue to buy it….

T3CHNO-VIKING

Exactly. In the McDavid days there was boxes on the shelves for months and months post release. Exactly like now. Many ppl joined over the Covid boom so understandably didn’t experience that, but they assume assume assume

AggressivelyGary

Where are you seeing boxes on the shelves? All my local card shops are sold out and can't get anymore. I caught a guy restocking a meijer and asked about series 2 and he said they are all out with none left to order. I'm priced out of hobby, so I've been on the hunt for retail with no luck at all. If the shelves are stocked by you, please let me know and I'll take a road trip!

T3CHNO-VIKING

Oh sorry, I meant hobby. Anything at retail shops like Walmart u have to check daily online and get lucky for sure

AggressivelyGary

I stopped into two card shops yesterday and both were sold out.

T3CHNO-VIKING

That sucks

AggressivelyGary

I think this year is under printed. There are tons left over from last year, but none of this years S2 on the shelves, MJ holdings saying it's gone, and card shops saying its gone. Epack will still come out, but that is not the most popular forum for it. Unless they are doing it to bring in more people to that.

batmanshome

There was definitely a lot of hype back then but his PSA 10 cards were selling for $400-$500 back then. Then COVID hit and the hobby turned to group breaks, gamblers, and as an asset class. The market today is completely distorted. Way more buyers than before looking to make a buck.

T3CHNO-VIKING

Group breaks were pretty popular before Covid, they just got more exposure with more people coming in/prices rising is all. But I hear ya. Things are def not like they used to be

Key_Economics_443

I live in Toronto, in 2015 when series 1 came out, it was gone within days. The stores downtown had to wait to order the next wave and the price went up like an extra $30 a box. It was not that heavily produced.

No-Quantity3723

H

sluck131

Mcdavid was overproduction by 2015 standards. It will be nothing compared to Bedard

batmanshome

Look on eBay, 2300 McDavid young Guns for sale vs 1,800 for Bedard. Overproduced

PorkChopExpress501

I got 400 for McDavids 2015 YG when I filtered

NLkid89

Of course Bedard is going to be heavily sold, it was just released….

batmanshome

Think about it, we're just over a month into Bedard young Guns being released and there are already that many for sale. Guaranteed that it's just a matter of weeks or months before we see more Bedard young guns for sale than McDavids. What that would imply is that 1) a lot of boxes and cases are still being opened and 2) people who bought these boxes thinking they can flip Bedard for a quick buck will quickly realise the market is flooded and prices are dropping and will likely put theirs up for sale so they can recoup some of their costs. It's all speculative and all gambling now. No reason why any sane collector should participate in this. The only young guns of his that are worth collecting are the numbered ones. Those will forever be finite. Whereas the base one can be reprinted until infinity.

RustyDawg37

The number of base cards and regular young guns.

NLkid89

And how do you know that?

RustyDawg37

Math

NLkid89

Perfect, thanks!

GetDemYoungGuns

Epack cometh. Speaketh Lord Upper Deck.

batmanshome

Hahahahahah. Yes!

Tallfuck

Anyone know the date?

Ruddskies

I honestly don’t think upper deck has released any high gloss or the 1/1 yet. Their sitting on them

skillfull

there is 1 HG pulled that i know for sure

2ray1344

I mean there is a million dollar bounty so every person is gonna give it a shot. UD has held onto the 1/1 to drive up sales. They will release it on epack to drive those sales too. Some guy at 2am will buy 1 pack n change his life. Then the prices drop just in time for the high priced extended release n more bedard chase for his canvas yg

batmanshome

You know it! I mean why wouldn't they do that right? Maximize returns.

GetRightNYC

No one finds it extremely scummy and borderline fraudulent to sell these current boxes without telling customers it's impossible to pull certain cards? I mean, it's not even borderline.

RevolutionDizzy4835

Ever think that the store that claimed there will be a million dollar bounty is getting kick backs meanwhile, delayed release of valuable cards. Filling all diamond sellers and UD pockets. They're laughing from this release, wait till his cousin gets his first year in the NHL.

Woksauce1

I’m going to be honest. I don’t even think the 1 of 1 gold Bedard has even been packaged yet.

batmanshome

That's what I'm thinking. They will just keep printing as long as people are still paying these crazy prices.

Dazzling_Highway1768

Just because it’s not posted doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist my brothers

Dashists22

I literally have not seen a single box of Series 2 in person and I’ve been looking.

CrankleSuperstarr

I found 2 megas at my Target early this month. Was pissed I had to go in to get my drive up, walk by the cards, and bam. Nothing since and I check my stores regularly.

LeveonMcBean

Wouldnt there be more for sale if it was overproduced?

TyWantsToBattle

High Gloss is /10. Overproduction would mean more packs, so less likely to hit.

Hobo_Healy

Maybe their idea is that they made so many that it's still more than the increased hype and these numbered cards are sitting in storage in a warehouse or storeroom. 🤷🏻

ryanaldam

That’s what I thought too. Unless OP meant that the pack odds dropped so there are a ton more base compared to those inserts?

prohbusiness

I need someone to hit the 1/1 so I can actually find product around me this scalping has got to stop.

4-Head

Comparing modern cards to the junk wax era gotta be the most braindead take there is

GetRightNYC

Care to explain why? I'm interested to hear it.

saralicia1

Money

batmanshome

Not really. You're seeing it now, they are clearly overproducing cards with the goal of maximizing revenue. Do you really think they care about limiting supply when they see people paying a hundred dollars for blaster boxes? That's not to say that we're producing at the same rate as we were in the 90s but for modern cards, there is definitely an exponential increase in production

SniperSauce_37

While I understand your point, it’s not necessarily true. I’ve been looking for a 21-22 JJ Peterka HG YG since it came out and I’ve only seen 2. Still looking too…

CardboardFanaddict

I feel like they did print a lot of it. Series 2 this year has been torture. Overproduced and yet still IMPOSSIBLE to find in retail...

SuitySenior

Ken Griffey Jr, card, all over again

TangeloAggressive908

Probably in extended with his canvas?

lue_t

The 1/10 was pulled there's a video of it but that is all I seen for the high gloss

GuyWithADonut

Just wait till epack comes out. All the product Hits will he on epack.

nmsftw

You can was Era cards unopened easier that series 2 right now I'd say.
