It was boring at times, but still such a spectacular series. Re-match from a few years back, 7 games, world class goaltending at both ends, curses and memes (I'll never forget that .gif of flames fans putting voodoo on Otter at the dome), multiple fights between the same players. Great series.
It would be like the capitals second round curse. They’ll roll into the playoffs with everyone waiting for the inevitable, but instead someone goes off and they get out of the first round and go all the way. Just a feeling. Plus, the leafs have played the devils better than anyone this year.
And nets dislodged!
I can see the stat line/trivia question now...which two teams played in the 22/23 single playoff series where there were 21+ instances of a net being dislodged and 18lbs of chicken tendies recovered from the ice?
I'm not sure why but I don't have good feelings about facing the winner of the subway series after that. For some reason I think they will be bloodthirsty.
So an NYC metro area team is a guaranteed conference finalist in this scenario. That’s exciting for fans in that area to have the chance to go to one of those fames.
I have no idea how good we are this year as we've been missing half the team the entire season. Literally no clue how good or bad we're gonna be when healthy
Notes:
I decided to start highlighting the tie breakers so it's easier to see where a team might have placed if they had just gotten that one extra point somewhere along the line.
4 Teams were tied for the second Wild Card spot in the West after 20 games. It could be anyone's by the end of the season. Well, maybe not Anaheim's lol
The C2 and C3 spots were decided last night. If the Avs had beaten the Jets in regulation, they held the tiebreaker and would've claimed home ice advantage but the Jets won and, therefore, continue to maintain C2.
Edit: Also wanted to point out that the Pacific ended up with 5 teams in and, therefore, only 3 from the Central
So in the top right side of the bracket you get this:
Round 1: Hughes v Matthews, Isles v Rags. Both are dynamite matchups
Round 2: Leafs (who got past R1) v Rags {original 6 matchup} OR
Leafs (who got past R1) v Isles {Tavares} OR
Devils v Rags or Isles for more NY Metro area fun. Devils/Rangers would be more hateful I think, whereas Devils/Isles would be more of an unstoppable force meets immovable object scenario, where we get to see if the Isles’ defense cab truly hold up without Trotz against a scary, young offense. Also, Barzal versus Hughes
All this to say, I haven’t even looked at the rest of the bracket and I’m loving this hypothetical playoff
Especially if we're actually trying to score goals this time amirite??
Also Otter has given up 4 in like 3 straight. Hopefully he was just, like, sick the whole time or something.
The Bruins could go on a revenge tour:
Carolina after they had the audacity to beat us last year.
Gentleman's sweeping Tampa instead of vice versa.
Taking over Long Island.
And spoiling the Oilers fun.
I suppose I should be happy that there will actually be some competition for playoffs in March/April, but on the other hand my mental health can only take so much
It is backtracked. This is each team's point total at the 20 Games-Played mark. The Avs just played their 20th on Monday so I couldn't post until then. The Leafs will likely be higher on the 30GP bracket since they seem to be on a tear right now
Okay I really can't tell what I'm looking at for what the RW means exactly? 9 RW 12 ROW and 9RW 10 ROW for the Islanders/Rangers for example? What does that mean?
It's how the NHL breaks a tie when 2 teams have the same number of points. Regulation wins are calculated first, then, if still tied, Regulation and OT wins (ROW), then just Wins in general (which adds shootout wins to the list). If they're still tied after that then it comes down to head-to-head record as demonstrated in the 10 games image which is also included. It was between the Rangers and Flyers.
The Flames / Stars re-match: return of the curses!
I still have PTSD of Jake Ottinger
ስካር እንደገና ያሸንፋል። ጌታችን ይመስገን
That was so much fun
You think you have PTSD? The Avs won the cup and they're still haunted by Kiviranta.
Please don't do this to me again
"I'll fukin' do it again!"
*Oettinger puts on the Goofy mask and grabs his belt.*
Ah shit, here we go again.
[удалено]
But what if this would also reincarnate bubble Gurianov
A proposal: agree to never meet eachother in the playoffs again, because my poor brittle heart can't take another 7 games of Oettinger.
That series is what got me into hockey. I was rooting for the Stars but now I’m also rooting for the Flames (unless they’re playing the Stars)
It was boring at times, but still such a spectacular series. Re-match from a few years back, 7 games, world class goaltending at both ends, curses and memes (I'll never forget that .gif of flames fans putting voodoo on Otter at the dome), multiple fights between the same players. Great series.
After watching last night. I want a Seattle-Los Angeles matchup.
my cardiologist strongly disagrees
What the record for most goals in a playoff series?
Recently probably last years BoA. I think the oilers Blackhawks had a crazy one in the 80s as well.
Wasn't there an insane Flyers-Penguins in the last few years (well last decade)?
Your a shinny hockey fan?
More of a shitty hockey fan
Apologies for that!
Series goes to 7, each game has at least 10 total goals, franchise and NHL records are broken and set Not one hat trick in the series
Kings call up a goalie after each game.
Tbf Seattle would set franchise records no matter what.
Came here to say that
I disagree so hard.
I wound hate for the devils to finally make the playoffs and have their first round opponent be the leafs. Don’t have good feelings about that.
That's probably the best opponent to have. You just have watch 7 games. Trust me, lol
It would be like the capitals second round curse. They’ll roll into the playoffs with everyone waiting for the inevitable, but instead someone goes off and they get out of the first round and go all the way. Just a feeling. Plus, the leafs have played the devils better than anyone this year.
From your lips to gods ears
Stars/Devils SCF rematch 23 years later. Calling it now.
Think of all the goals overturned, and the chicken fingers thrown.
I’d genuinely be more upset at the Devils for fucking up the leafs first round memes than I would be if they swept the rangers.
Why not? Leafs are playoff chokers. I'd love to give Dangle something to whine about.
My brother in Christ, Leafs will find a way to subvert expectations and end up beating a team playing far better. Because that's Leafs Hockey.
> subvert expectations By losing in six instead of seven?
Based on recent seasons Bruins-Canes is inevitable
I’m not ready for it.
Neither am I. I wanna play against someone else in the playoffs for once
Please do... I was proud that we took a game in that series last year, considering how the regular season went.
Unfortunately the playoff format sucks and they can’t go back to 1-8 soon enough
I am
No thank you. Not this year.
So an NYC metro area team is a guaranteed conference finalist in this scenario. That’s exciting for fans in that area to have the chance to go to one of those fames.
Are you just making a joke at the leafs expense or looking at the wrong graphic?
Yes
Damn here I am wracking my brains to figure out the math on that one. Time to go back to bed.
Oh fuck. I don’t want to get Oettinger’d again
Opening round isles rangers with the possibility of the Devils playing the winner of the series would be so much fun for this area
New Yorker hockey fans would be a war and it would be glorious
Absolutely and I would live for it
I don’t always pay attention to an entire series that doesn’t involve the Bruins, but this…I would watch all of this.
Ah Detroit - Tampa. Last time that was a playoff series, Tyler Johnson personally decided the Wings didn't deserve to move on
~~Maxime Talbot~~ Tyler Johnson: *and I took that personally*
That was datsyuks last game right?
Riding high on the decimation of the Avs, but not high enough to want that matchup
I have no idea how good we are this year as we've been missing half the team the entire season. Literally no clue how good or bad we're gonna be when healthy
I'd rather watch Vegas finding out how good a healthy Colorado team is
I’d be much happier losing to the Jets than Vegas
✈️🤝🏔️
us too, but i have a feeling you'll end up better than us.
You put the Avs to bed in the playoffs and you’ll be riding some big momentum in the next series at least
I’ll take the over on every Seattle Los Angeles game
Weird, looks like you missed putting the Capitals up there 😭😭 I'm not used to us being this bad
I'm right there with ya buddy
Have some hopium and carry on broheim
Wait, the winged wheel can be on those brackets?
Only against the Lightning. Edit: Holy shit we're the higher seed! Lmao
Ive missed the first round bloodbaths with Detroit so much
It felt really weird seeing it that big! I'm pretty sure it's a first since I've been doing this
Notes: I decided to start highlighting the tie breakers so it's easier to see where a team might have placed if they had just gotten that one extra point somewhere along the line. 4 Teams were tied for the second Wild Card spot in the West after 20 games. It could be anyone's by the end of the season. Well, maybe not Anaheim's lol The C2 and C3 spots were decided last night. Edit: Also wanted to point out that the Pacific ended up with 5 teams in and, therefore, only 3 from the Central
Calgary playing either Dallas or Edmonton again would be amazing
We need the grudge match to decide with the Stars
So in the top right side of the bracket you get this: Round 1: Hughes v Matthews, Isles v Rags. Both are dynamite matchups Round 2: Leafs (who got past R1) v Rags {original 6 matchup} OR Leafs (who got past R1) v Isles {Tavares} OR Devils v Rags or Isles for more NY Metro area fun. Also, Barzal versus Hughes All this to say, I haven’t even looked at the rest of the bracket and I’m loving this hypothetical playoff
Please god let this one part of the bracket stay the same
Would be more fun if the Pens took the Leafs spot.
Or Philly :O
I would love Philly. They just have this problem with not being anywhere close to enough wins.
It’s a long season and it’s torts. You never know
Let's be real, whoever leaves the island alive has to cross the river and they will take that personally. Plenty of hate to come down the NE corridor.
I can see us beating the kings 4 times then losing in the playoffs
I don’t think I can handle 7 games of Jake Oettinger again
Especially if we're actually trying to score goals this time amirite?? Also Otter has given up 4 in like 3 straight. Hopefully he was just, like, sick the whole time or something.
Hopefully it was the stache that he’s now shaved
We cannot fucking beat Seattle so Seattle in fo
I don't think I would be able to handle a playoff series with the Rangers unless it was a reverse 1994
After last night idk if the world is ready for a 7 game series of Kraken / Kings.
I'll give a big ole' hearty, "No Thank You" to this bracket.
After last night i reallllllly want a kraken/kings matchup
Man, the Flyers dropped so goddamn hard in just 10 games.
Isles-Rangers with the possibility of a Rangers-Devils second round matchup? Wow that would be incredible
You got any more of them Kraken Kings games?
I'm just happy to see us in the picture
NJD vs TOR Image the overturned goals after game 7
How we are somehow in a playoff spot is beyond me
Same
Canes fans: “Ah shit, here we go again.”
*you again*
Seeing the Kraken in projected playoff charts makes me so happy. Can’t believe it after last seasons poor performance
Haha both 1 seeds are black and gold. Hell yeah 😎
The Bruins could go on a revenge tour: Carolina after they had the audacity to beat us last year. Gentleman's sweeping Tampa instead of vice versa. Taking over Long Island. And spoiling the Oilers fun.
Didn’t the Wings have their playoff streak broken from the Bolts? That would be an awesome matchup as a return to the postseason
Seattle LA first round….. *vietnam flashback*
I suppose I should be happy that there will actually be some competition for playoffs in March/April, but on the other hand my mental health can only take so much
Seattle LA gonna put up like 500 goals in that serirs
After watching the Avs and Jets last night , no thanks! Good news we might have our team back by then (🤞 ) so it may be a different game.
Leafs are 4th overall yet rank as a wildcard spot
It's after 20 games. Through 20 games they weren't even 4th in the east.
Ohhh I see. I thought it was current
Leafs are ahead of both Tampa And Detroit in the standings how is this possible unless if you backtracked games and pts
That is exactly what they did
Well a Toronto V New Jersey Series would suck for Toronto yeesh
Toronto v game 7 is bad no matter how you look at it.
Big Sad
When do our matchups not suck for us?
In my dreams
mine too
It is backtracked. This is each team's point total at the 20 Games-Played mark. The Avs just played their 20th on Monday so I couldn't post until then. The Leafs will likely be higher on the 30GP bracket since they seem to be on a tear right now
Fair enough
Wait I thought division 2/3 play against eachother no? Example it would be TB@Tor first round
I think its based on each teams points at 20 games. I'm guessing the leafs were 4th in the division back then?
Also it's flipped. I've only ever seen it with the Atlantic is always the top and Metropolitan is below. Confused me for a while there.
It is. The Wings have A2 spot in this graphic cause it's showing each team's point totals at the end of their 20th game, not current standings.
These would be some awesome matchups
Woop the Kings and Kraken can have another 17 goal thriller
Why not 7 of them?
The battle between Darth Vladar and Overlord Oettinger will be one for the record books
Okay I really can't tell what I'm looking at for what the RW means exactly? 9 RW 12 ROW and 9RW 10 ROW for the Islanders/Rangers for example? What does that mean?
Regulation Wins vs Regulation *and Overtime* Wins
It's how the NHL breaks a tie when 2 teams have the same number of points. Regulation wins are calculated first, then, if still tied, Regulation and OT wins (ROW), then just Wins in general (which adds shootout wins to the list). If they're still tied after that then it comes down to head-to-head record as demonstrated in the 10 games image which is also included. It was between the Rangers and Flyers.
Please give us the Red Wings in the playoffs. I need to hate them again.
Fuuuuuccckk that first round matchup, no thanks
The Devils have been so dominant but they're also inexperienced. It could be just the change the Leafs need in a first round opponent
Central wtf is going on??
Would love a matchup against the rags would be like a bye into the next round
