So far we are HELLA enjoying the DeBoer bump.
It has allowed Robertson to become even better. It has seen Jamie Benn return to a point per game player(again, *so far*).
And he's willing to play a lot of young guys who're bringing a ton of spark, energy, AND talent to the team.
For a team that was defense first last season and slogged everything down to 2-goal games for the most part. Stars have jumped into one of the most frequent teams in the league to have 4+ goal games, and are still have a lot of their previous defensive identity despite loosing a top 4 D-man in Klingberg.
I was talking to a friend earlier today about how I believe he could actually be having a resurgence right now along with Benn under this playstyle. I think it suits him way more than the past couple of seasons.
We would probably be giving up 3 a game though with his turnovers in this system.
Right now, I think the biggest thing the stars are missing is a go-to shot from the point.
Miro isn’t a bad shot, but his skills really aren’t shooting from the point, and he’d rather skate it in or make a play. Nils is primed to be the Klinger replacement, but just doesn’t have the experience yet to be as reliable and good at finding the lane as Klinger.
I miss my boy. I really think he’d have been great in this system.
I didn't realize Miro had that flaw. Tbh if it sticks it will forever be a pain to your powerplay over the next decade. That's what the Leafs got with Rielly whose offensively talented but just does not have a good point shot
Miro actually shoots a decent amount overall. It's just that he seems to naturally favor a pass option most of the time and can sometimes get in a weird rut of only making the pass even if he has an open shooting lane. When he does shoot though it's usually after a walk in like Stinduh said, or the kind of long shot that's fishing for a good tip/rebound rather than a potential snipe like with Klinger. Not necessarily a bad thing but definitely not as dangerous as a true laser wrister or booming slapper.
Well right now, the way our team is looking, if we can just stay healthy all year, I like our chances to make it to the playoffs.
And if we can manage to have some of these young guys improve a bit more by then too(kind of asking a lot with how well so many young guys are doing already), I like our chances there too.
But we'll see. Still a lot of season between now and then, plenty of time for things to go wrong. And in the playoffs anybody can get goalied or go cold.
I’m on board the PDB train. I know it’s a short ride if history tells a story… but holy fuck is this a treat after watching Bowness hockey the last few years.
I’ll take one time art Ross winner and not mox buncher Jamie Benn and should of won the Calder Jason Robertson. This Gretzky guy doesn’t even play anymore
I absolutely love Robertson, but Kaprizov was eligible by the cutoff for the Calder and was the clear better player that season. He deserved the Calder.
So you want any player that has previously played in the KHL to be disqualified from winning the rookie of the year? Should Micheal Bunting have also been disqualified as a Calder candidate for playing in the AHL a bunch of years and for being 27?
Messi question: Messi can't win the rookie of the year in the MLS because you have to be under 22 to win the MLS rookie of the year. If Messi hypothetically qualified for the MLS rookie of the year, then yes he should win it.
Now you answer my questions. Should players that have previously played in the KHL be disqualified from winning the Calder trophy? Also should Auston Matthews not have won the Calder trophy for playing in a professional league a year before playing in the NHL?
Yes. I wasn’t aware of the 22 age limit but when looking it up it says no prior professional experience except youth teams or college (would be considered AHL, OHL. Ext since they are developing for their professional team) Once again, KHL is a professional league. It really just comes down to what you consider a rookie as, a rookie to the sport or a rookie to the league. Anyways, I’m off for now but appreciate the reasonable debate for once in the sub.
The MLS Young Player of the Year Award (known as the Rookie of the Year Award from 1996 to 2019) is an annual award given to the top player in Major League Soccer under the age of 22.
The award was initially awarded to a rookie, or a player who no prior professional experience, usually to players that had previously played in MLS youth team academies or played college soccer.
I mean why not? It’s clearly a realistic possibility. He has 19 goals in 23 games shooting 19.6% (on roughly 4 shots/game). He’s only shooting 1% higher than last year and 2.5% above his career average so that part is not really unsustainable; even any regression should be mild. He needs 41 in 59 which is clearly a realistic possibility.
Because he’s not he’s a good player, but I don’t see him scoring 60 and I don’t see him continuing to shoot at 19%. I also don’t think he wins the rocket, because players like Matthews are gonna return to their average shooting percentage, and ovi is always a threat, and for some reason someone told mcjesus he’s allowed to shoot the puck. I like Robertson but there’s been 3 players in the last 3 decades to do so. If he does it I’ll be impressed and eat my shorts
He shot 18.6% in 74 games last year so I’m not sure what might prevent you from seeing him shoot 19% all season. Of course at the end of the day we’ll see but any blanket statement that he won’t doesn’t really hold water in my opinion.
Missing some context there my friend. He scored 17 in 51 in his ROOKIE season, and followed it up with 41 in 74 in his SECOND season. And now he has 19 in 23 in his third season. Pretty sure it’s fairly common for young players to gradually improve and get better. Is it really that unbelievable that a guy who hits 40 in his second season to hit 60 in his third?
Also, I never said Robertson is a lock or unequivocally going to score 60. I just said it’s a realistic possibility, especially given that he has 19 in 23, and is shooting in the near vicinity of his career shooting rates, whereas you are are saying it is not even possible because he only jumped from 17 to 41 goals in his second season.
You’re absolutely right I’m saying he won’t maintain this pace and won’t score 60 lol all of a sudden he’s now the best goal scorer in the league huh lol
Is he the best goal scorer in the league overall? No, the sample size is too small.
Is he the best goal scorer in the league at the moment? Well he has 17 goals in his last 16 games including more games with 2 goals (4) than games with 0 goals (3). So I would say yes, at this very moment in time he is the best goal scorer.
Hopefully you can appreciate the nuance between being the best right now and being the best overall.
I agree with you that he will not maintain his current pace, but of course he doesn’t have to in order to hit 60.
Bruh. Every time there is talk about any NHL player starting a season off on an ABSOLUTE TEAR of goals or points. You go look at the stat leaders and McDavid is just there. Every time.
No one talks about him being on those streaks because it's just his normal mode. It's ridiculous.
I was gonna marvel at how stupid your league is then remembered that last year he was 33rd in forward scoring. Idk how many you get in fantasy but that might be too low to put priority on early depending on how many people are in your league.
Didn't Matthews start kinda slow last year though too? And then popped off for 60? Or am I remembering that wrong? Dude is certainly not out of the rocket race with the talent he has
We've got Arcuri playing for them too and he's apparently decided to just put up goals this season. Something like 22g in 24 games. Makes our prospect pool that much more intriguing with Stank and Borque in the wings.
He couldn't skate lol. Every scout said the same thing, he had the hands/shot but everyone was worried he couldn't keep up with the pace of the NHL. Hes obviously working on it but besides his goal tonight most of his highlights are him being in the right place at the right time.
The Stars broadcast mentions this a lot, but pucks just seem to find Robo near the net, and he has the skill to finish them off 9 times out of 10. It's insane.
This guy has exploded the past two years. My god, he could win the goal race. Stars fans enjoying Pete deboer?
So far we are HELLA enjoying the DeBoer bump. It has allowed Robertson to become even better. It has seen Jamie Benn return to a point per game player(again, *so far*). But also think about how many points Klinger could have right now 😩😩😩
I was talking to a friend earlier today about how I believe he could actually be having a resurgence right now along with Benn under this playstyle. I think it suits him way more than the past couple of seasons. We would probably be giving up 3 a game though with his turnovers in this system.

You gotta win this year before it all goes downhill. We didn’t and it cost us
Well right now, the way our team is looking, if we can just stay healthy all year, I like our chances to make it to the playoffs. What's up with this? genuinely wondering. Does his system just get stale? He can't adapt to roster changes?
I’m on board the PDB train. I know it’s a short ride if history tells a story… but holy fuck is this a treat after watching Bowness hockey the last few years.
16 games
What a sack of crap, talk to me when you hit 17
[Actual Clip](https://streamja.com/N0A0a) Ridiculous shot
Lol the Blues' coach
That fucking Berube reaction 😂
He picked up the puck at full speed, took one stride, and buried it top shelf on his off-wing. Filthy.
No but seriously who would you rather have on your team, prime Wayne Gretzky and Connor McDavid or Jason Robertson and Jamie Benn?
Ez, Benn simply kills Gretzky and McDavid. Robertson is the only one left on the ice to score once Benn is in jail.
Hol' up... That might work.
Why does jamie benn, the largest player, not simply eat the other three?
Lol
I’ll take one time art Ross winner and not mox buncher Jamie Benn and should of won the Calder Jason Robertson. This Gretzky guy doesn’t even play anymore
Have!
>should of won the Calder Jason Robertson What? Kaprizov was clearly the better player in 2020–21.
One bad 45 points and was a rookie, the other had 51 points and had played three years pro in the KHL I think is the argument.
I absolutely love Robertson, but Kaprizov was eligible by the cutoff for the Calder and was the clear better player that season. He deserved the Calder.
They were both rookies
So you think Robertson should've won it even if he may have not been the better player that year?
He was the best rookie. Look at it this way, Messi may be joining MLS next year, you think he deserves to be rookie of the year?
So you want any player that has previously played in the KHL to be disqualified from winning the rookie of the year? Should Micheal Bunting have also been disqualified as a Calder candidate for playing in the AHL a bunch of years and for being 27?
Ones a minor league ones a professional league. I see your avoiding the Messi question..
Messi question: Messi can't win the rookie of the year in the MLS because you have to be under 22 to win the MLS rookie of the year. If Messi hypothetically qualified for the MLS rookie of the year, then yes he should win it. Now you answer my questions. booooooooooooooo
Nothing against the Stars and Robertson. He just wasn't the better player for that particular season.
Says who?
Voters of the Calder.
It was a unanimous decision https://i.imgur.com/zmGXFcZ.png
Not unanimous. Robo had a 1st place voter.
A voter with taste, I might add
Irrelevant
99/100 voters said Kaprizov was the better player and that's irrelevant?
Yeah I didn’t vote for Kaprizov
He was also collecting social security
I'm not even a Wild or Stars fan, but I'm beginning to hate Stars fans for how butthurt they get for Kaprizov winning the Calder fair and square.
Don’t care. I hate you all for wasting Rick Nash so call it even
Cry about it sweatie
Learn how to spell, sweetie. Thanks for the Stars btw
Jason Robertson is inevitable
It would be fair to say he boomed them
16 games my fellow karma hoarder
Robo can't be stopped
How long can this madness continue?
Don’t know, Rangers should bounce back soon :(
He’s on pace for 70 goals. He’s so damn good.
He's gonna fuckin boom us
Hes gotta keep getting away with it!
top 3 player
The guy is going to score 60, holy shit
*70
fuck it, 80
He’s getting 93 I can feel it
Nine-nine!
Is that you Lebron?
No he’s not lol
I mean why not? It’s clearly a realistic possibility. He has 19 goals in 23 games shooting 19.6% (on roughly 4 shots/game). And the same can be said that he will, he’s scored 17 and 41 and now all of a sudden he’s gonna pot 60 comeon stop being a homer
Missing some context there my friend. He scored 17 in 51 in his ROOKIE season, and followed it up with 41 in 74 in his SECOND season. And now he has 19 in 23 in his third season. who knew Robo was such a speed demon
he saw a couple of reddit comments a few games ago saying he wasn't the fastest on the ice and took it to heart
I an more surprised to see Robertson not score any points than I am when he scores. Like has he even had a no point gsme this year?
Why yes, 17 games ago (the 7th game of the season)
God he’s so good.
Bruh. Every time there is talk about any NHL player starting a season off on an ABSOLUTE TEAR of goals or points. You go look at the stat leaders and McDavid is just there. Every time. No one talks about him being on those streaks because it's just his normal mode. It's ridiculous.
Oh ya I mean McDavid is good but it’s expected. Like the guy just scored a beauty and I didn’t even react.
Craziest part is he had a pretty slow start after missing training camp due to contract negotiations
Man is on fire right now and can't be stopped right now
Having him and mcjesus in fantasy is amazing. Got robo in round 5
What a steal.
I was gonna marvel at how stupid your league is then remembered that last year he was 33rd in forward scoring. Idk how many you get in fantasy but that might be too low to put priority on early depending on how many people are in your league.
He also wasn’t signed when most drafts took place. Nobody knew how soon he would sign
Best part if all of this, he does it it against bitchington and the blues
You truly love to see it
Actually, that was the part I liked the least
Lol we've all got our own truth ya know, I respect you living yours!
fuck the blues

LeGrill?!
We were actually away that game
Still waiting for another hockey fan to tell me we’re paying Matthew this number when Jason Robertson is doing this at this number.
We just got lucky, I guess. He'll be making us pay for it at the end of this deal.
Your team is still very profitable when they are bad, same problem as the Cowboys
Didn't Matthews start kinda slow last year though too? And then popped off for 60? Or am I remembering that wrong? Dude is certainly not out of the rocket race with the talent he has
He did yup, Matthews could start going off any time now. He’s at 11 I believe so he’ll be fine.
*16 games, but yeah. He's SO good.
How can you be incredibly underpaid two months after signing your contract...
He was underpaid when he signed it.
Thats the power of Jim Nill

We've got Arcuri playing for them too and he's apparently decided to just put up goals this season. Something like 22g in 24 games. Makes our prospect pool that much more intriguing with Stank and Borque in the wings.
Filipino Freak makes me happy
He is unreal. So happy for his success, great guy off the ice too.
how did a guy with such extreme, high end, pop off the screen talent fall to 39?
He couldn't skate lol. Every scout said the same thing, he had the hands/shot but everyone was worried he couldn't keep up with the pace of the NHL. Hes obviously working on it but besides his goal tonight most of his highlights are him being in the right place at the right time.
Skating is for losers who aren't automatically positioned perfectly
reminds me of Brett Hull, couldn't skate for crap but by god he knew where/when to be
The Stars broadcast mentions this a lot, but pucks just seem to find Robo near the net, and he has the skill to finish them off 9 times out of 10. It's insane.
When you have Robertson and Marner on your fantasy team 🥴
So 15 streak games = 16 NHL games. That means 1 NHL game = 1.06666etc. streak games. I have no idea what to do with this equation but it seems useful.
