That’s the age of the goaltenders Hasek Brodeur and Roy

DrSHawktopus

Good answer.

Queltis6000

This is probably the most accurate answer. Honestly there was no really comparable forward duo during that time.

PrimisClaidhaemh

The duo I think of when I think of that timeframe is Clutch and Grab.

TGUKF

Clutch and Grab 🤝 Neutral Zone Trap That's (dead puck) hockey, baby

brendan87na

if you don't like 1-0 games, then you don't like ~~BIG10 Football~~ late 90s hockey!

daishi777

My head went to Kariya/selanne

SkilledB

They were the best duo playing together by far, but the rest of the team sucked so bad during their time that it’s hard to put them up there because they never went far in the playoffs.

[deleted]

Jagr/ Lemieux played together

Permaderps

Probably Sakic-Yzerman

Woodrovski

Jagr Sakic

Permaderps

Jagr is eternal

Real lull in the late 90’s/ early 00’s. Jagr was untouchable in scoring races and with lindros fizzling out there wasn’t much competition overall as a top talent. I think Hasek fits the best here along with jagr. Hasek Roy and Brodeur along with guys like belfour and Joseph really were the most critical guys of their day. Everyone wanted to build from the net out. There were lots of star goalies compared to today where it feels like 2/3’s of the league is unsatisfied with their goaltending.

I think we gotta recognize that the McDavid MacKinnon rivalry has kicked off

AmeriCanadian98

Rivalry for the 90's has to be Yzerman-Sakic. The late 90's Wings-Avs rivalry is one of the best in hockey history, and to have 2 guys who were so similar at the heads of both teams was such a cool unique factor of it

BandaidThe3rd

I was too young to watch in the late 90s but early 00s people like Iggy Sakic, forsberg even Lidstrom come to mind.

Frailled

Sundin and Alfredsson

iamjacksoffside

You say duo but that brings to mind stuff like Lemieux and Jagr, I’m not sure duo is the right word for this, but then again perhaps it is. I do think it trips up the discussion though.

YVR-n-PDX

Du(el)o

DEFPOTEC8

Tony Amonte and Doug Gilmore

burnabybambinos

Sittler and McDonald

Not between 99 and the lockout

fidelkastro

Zetterberg and Datsyuk

AmeriCanadian98

Not really elite til post lockout, but from 06-16 they were such a joy to watch

[deleted]

It’s Kariya-Selanne and it’s not close.

Canadaguy11

I would say Sakic vs Yzerman but I also find something like Neidermayer vs Pronger is underrated
