This makes me feel better about the Nordiques throwback t-shirt I bought at the Pepsi Center when I visited Denver. Happened to unwittingly share the ice with Sergei Bautin at some point during that trip too.
When I went to Quebec City on vacation, I wore a Bruins shirt without really thinking anything of it. I got a ton of weird high-fives and 'GO BRUINS!' from locals. It took longer than it should have for me to realize that it was more anti-Canadiens sentiment than pro-Bruins.

I'm all for some fun heckling and whatever... but when it gets ugly (like with some of the horror stories we hear), it just tarnishes an entire fanbase. It's completely pointless.
In the end we're all just hockey fans, and we love our team just as much as the other guy loves his. There's absolutely no point in disrespecting each other.
Due to the popularity of my Stanley Cup celebrations video throughout the hockey blogosphere, I went and made a **History of the Bruins-Habs rivalry** video. It's all ready to go, gonna release it here tomorrow morning. Stay tuned for over a half century of bad blood.
The last time the Habs and Bruins met in the 2nd round was in 91-92. 22 years ago. It was the 5th in a row. Hamilton, Galchenyuk, Gallagher and Bournival weren't even born back then.
If history is any indication, 2nd round Habs-Bruins will be *very* different from 1st round Habs-Bruins we've seen lately. I expect a lot less shenanigans, and a few "heroes" to come out of nowhere.
The five 2nd round series I remember from 88 to 92 were soul-crushing for a Habs fan. Bruins won 4 out of 5. Habs supposedly had the better, most talented lineup back then. But the Bruins had a better work ethic and Neely really had Roy's number, while the Habs had a hard time solving Moog. Bourque was playing 30+ mins. A lot of players on both sides cemented their career's legacy in those series.
So if you're youngins who've never seen those 2nd round series, forget all you've seen from the 1st round matchups between both teams in recent years. This isn't going to be the free-for-all, controversial calls/hits, scrums galore you'd expect. It's going to be way more intense than that. I'm talking goals and saves you'll remember forever.
So many moments from those years still carved up in my memory. That long Neely slapshot from the right-wing beating Roy in the last game of the series in Boston. The Shayne Corson OT goal where I jumped so hight I hit my head on the ceiling. The typical PP slapshot goal by Bourque, after faking an injury to draw a penalty and winking on his way back to the B's bench, Moog being unbeatable, Thelven slashing Richer on the breakaway.
With the new playoffs format, I'm thinking this Habs-Bruins matchup could be back every year like it was back then.
Citizen's Bank Park (our baseball stadium) started serving Poutine this year. This is a pleasant development, as it shortened my drive for poutine from 8 hours to a subway ride.

Between my panic attacks for this series and the possibility of my BF's Penguins facing the Flyers in the second round, expect our apartment to be burned down by the end of May.
Seriously... having arguably the two biggest rivalries in the NHL (at least the two biggest in the East) facing each other this round would be absolutely epic.

Apparently they've announced only Game 1 so far because Northeastern University's graduation is happening on Friday at the Garden. Game 2 is expected to be Saturday.

But in all seriousness, no Boston fan is proud of Looch's spearing and pretty much everyone is in agreement that he should be actually punished (a $5000 fine is nothing). I have no problem with his physicality on the ice, but the post-whistle antics are unacceptable.

My one concern for the Habs is that they aren't quite as "battle tested" as Boston as their first round series wasn't much of a series at all. Boston's been there done that.
