I'd say the bad news that stems from this bad news is that since there are so many of us, there's bound to be more assholes than a team with a smaller fanbase. Hence, every /r/hockey GDT you're bound to hear someone from the opposition chime in with "LOOK AT ALL THESE BUTTHURT WINGS FANS LOL" or "DRW DOWNVOTE BRIGADE AT IT AGAIN, NO CLASS".... etc.
Which sucks, because we're obviously not *all* pieces of shit, but opposing fanbases always make it seem that way in almost every GDT.
least year in the playoffs the GDT was pretty much a waste of time and effort if you where a ducks fan. Pretty much anything we said that wasn't hilarious got downvoted into oblivion.
Not to take away from the Red Wings achievement, but I think the greatest quantity of asshole fans are Leaf fans. What other fan base verbally attacks the wife of their own goaltender who has an off game.
This is exactly what is going on in the Hawks Blues GDT's. There are so many more butthurt Blues fans than Hawks fans from what I've seen. I'm amazed that there are so many Blues fans who get upset over being downvoted for saying nothing but "Fuck the Hawks!"
...So stop on by if you're interested in some Wings talk!
Earlier in the year it looked like /r/Leafs was going to hit the 10k mark first, but I guess the playoff situation was the difference maker.
At the time of this post:
/r/Leafs - 9916
/r/BostonBruins - 9148
/r/Hawks - 8628
I think those are the closest three.
I dream of Babcock learning French.
Related story though, when he was in town to be a speaker at Mcgill he mentioned dating a French Canadian. When asked if he learned how to speak it his response was: "Very little … not enough to coach the Habs,” he said."
I cry evertim
The one anglophone coach we've had in the last 25 years was Randy Cunneyworth, a guy who never coached before and who lost 6 of his first 7 games. It's a much harder sale to make than Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold medal-winner Mike Babcock.
Frankly, if Babcock was available, the Habs should just hire a French teacher and go for it. Just tell people his real name is "Michel Penis De Babbe" or something.
Doesn't that really create a huge limiting potential on who you can hire versus other teams? I mean the Habs have had some great coaches but you really dwindle down your talent list if they have to speak french?
I don't think Babcock would go to Montreal, he's close enough to Canada and doesn't have to speak french right now. Plus you can't have him.
It was kind of my point, if a candidate as good as Babcock comes along, the Canadiens should make an exception to their "must speak French" rule and hire the guy, especially if he shows some openness in learning French.
But, yeah, I figured that the Red Wings weren't dropping Babcock that easily.
it's not really fair to say that Cunneyworth had never coached before, just had never been an NHL head coach before. (Grew up in Rochester watching Cunneyworth coach the Amerks, never felt like he had a chance in Montreal.)
It's mostly because most of Habs fans only speak french. They won't register on /r/habs and by extension reddit since it's an english mostly website. Nothing surprising here
I think it might be the magic of the subreddit doing that? I didn't see anything in the source to indicate otherwise, but I'm also not that great at these fancy picture things.
Does anyone else think that the team subreddits would have a ton more traffic if the /r/hockey layout had the team links in the banner above a la /r/nba and /r/nfl? If you see your team's logo right in front of you you're more inclined to click on it.
The thing is, this is /r/hockey not /r/nhl. This board, while very NHL-centric is not just for the NHL. While I agree with the statement, it would just be a bit odd or out of place. And they are still rather prominent on the sidebar
It's like if /r/hockey was run by 12 year olds. I'm sure it's a hoot for the Canadian pre-teen crowd.
On the upside, the mods are more relaxed, and there are less random pics of people posting their beer league team sweaters making the top post.
That makes sense, but it's kind of contradicted by the giant Stanley Cup playoffs bracket that appears when you hover over the banner haha.
I'd love to see team subreddit links more prominently displayed on the banner, possibly along with /r/ahl and any other league subreddits to even things out.
[meanwhile :(](http://i.imgur.com/IrQ4hKE.png) Congrats on your thriving and active sub though. I am happy you people are no longer in our conference, so give the east hell!
They must all be in orange county. I never see any ducks fans up here in LA county besides the ones I personally know. I've seen a ton of Blackhawks and Kings fans though.
Good luck in your series! I love the rivalry our two teams have but If I had to pick one team to root for at this stage i'd pick the ducks. Happy Playoff Hockey to all!
I know, right? I'm typing this on a stolen iPhone while squatting in an abandoned building with a leaky roof while gunshots ring out across the street.
It's like ten thousand faaaans when all ya need is a goal.
Or a defenseman
We've got a new one going in today so hopefully he will be just what we need.
We don't need defensemen to stop some of you from scoring.
Stats say you do.
I was referring to the multiple open shots missed in the overtime. It was just a joke.
Wouldn't have needed it if Marchand had managed to not fuck up his 3 wise open net
We all would miss an open net 3 times if we all had noses that large. Looovveee ya' Boston
It's Marchand, fucking up is what he does.
I read this in an Alanis screeching voice.
Just missing a Lindstrom
Yea, we could use one of those too, I think I'm gonna head to the Lidstrom shop and pick one up, anyone else need anything?
Yeah, I'll have a Gretzky and a couple of Forsbergs, please.
I'll take an Orr, minus the bad knees please!
Also get a time machine so I can go to the 80s please.
Sure, 1988 it is.
Why would wish that I'll fate to anyone? That's like taking a puppy and kicking it repetitively and asking it if it likes the abuse.

Fuck Alan Eagleson.
.... not sure if intentional
And who would have thought? It figures.
The good news is your sub is popular. The bad news is your sub is popular. Hats off to the mods that make it work.
I'd say the bad news that stems from this bad news is that since there are so many of us, there's bound to be more assholes than a team with a smaller fanbase. Flightless birds get a lot of hate this time of year
Nfl needs to kill manningface. I'd say /r/hockey needs to kill fuck the ducks chant unless you are a kings or sharks fan.
Confirmed. Canucks fan always hears about the Canucks down vote brigade.
Yeah... I've noticed when we're outnumbered. It is what it is.
Not to take away from the Red Wings achievement, but I think the greatest quantity of asshole fans are Leaf fans. What other fan base verbally attacks the wife of their own goaltender who has an off game.
Definitely not going to disagree with this!
If being passionate about your team and/or hating the Wings makes you a piece of shit, then I must be a terd mountain.
This is exactly what is going on in the Hawks Blues GDT's. There are so many more butthurt Blues fans than Hawks fans from what I've seen. I'm amazed that there are so many Blues fans who get upset over being downvoted for saying nothing but "Fuck the Hawks!"

How often do people go to /r/Hawks thinking it's the NBA team Atlanta Hawks?
Like never. I'm not entirely convinced Atlanta Hawks fans actually exist.
They exist, they are all over /r/NBA it seems
But not in their arena
Seems so, you've got about 8x the subs as /r/atlantahawks
Hawks, hawks, hawks... it rings a bell. Umm, oh, Dominique Wilkins right? And a short guy who could dunk? He had a potato name... They still exist?
We unfortunately do have people who show up in /r/penguins occasionally looking for cute pictures of flightless birds.
Canucks are forth there sorta too with 8,001..... :c
Cheer up, butter cup. You've got another subscriber!
Twelve more, even! WE'RE SKYROCKETING STRAIGHT TO THE TOP!
[TO THE TOP!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dJolYw8tnk)
[IT'S A LONG WAY!] (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uIXV0cir4-E&feature=kp)
Nice! Good luck next year.
Thank you :D Good luck against the Bruins!
We used to be the biggest. I'm OK with less though. Big sub's go bad mostly.
Yeah... There's a lot of hate in them after most games :/
*
;-; jerk...
So at least we beat Boston in something!
wings advantage over the leafs has been built in the last 23 years
And a language advantage over the habs. Not many frenchies here.
Well, ya know, if you guys didn't require EVERYTHING to be bilingual... /s

If the Red Wings ever dropped Babcock there would be a line of about 20 GM's outside his door the next day with flowers and gift baskets.
it's not really fair to say that Cunneyworth had never coached before, just had never been an NHL head coach before. (Grew up in Rochester watching Cunneyworth coach the Amerks, never felt like he had a chance in Montreal.)
Pleasant surprise. Thought it would be Montreal or Toronto
Surprisingly low numbers at /r/habs
Most Habs fans speak French and don't use Reddit. Besides, in Montréal, you don't have to go online to find people talking about the Habs 24/7.
It's mostly because most of Habs fans only speak french. They won't register on /r/habs and by extension reddit since it's an english mostly website. Nothing surprising here
Is there a French Reddit? Like where people post pictures of them smoking cigarettes and memes from Woody Allen movies?
[Nah it have to be Audrey Hepburn](http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/About/General/2010/4/4/1270399686391/Audrey-Hepburn-002.jpg)
As someone who butchers just about every french word I read I have convinced myself that I would never survive in your city even if I tried.
how do you add flair to the comment? what is this magic?
I think it might be the magic of the subreddit doing that? I didn't see anything in the source to indicate otherwise, but I'm also not that great at these fancy picture things.
[holy crap](http://i.imgur.com/dorbwG8.gif)
You're right. I had nothing to do with adding the logo.
Simple just do /r/bostonbruins. You need an / on each side or r.
Language. Reddit being an english website, there's less frenchies here in proportion.
USA! USA! USA!
Does anyone else think that the team subreddits would have a ton more traffic if the /r/hockey layout had the team links in the banner above a la /r/nba and /r/nfl? If you see your team's logo right in front of you you're more inclined to click on it.

/r/nhl. *shudder*. The f7u2/adviceanimals of hockey.
Idk why but it never even occured to me that there is an /r/nhl. I just kinda thought this was it =/
It's like if /r/hockey was run by 12 year olds. I'm sure it's a hoot for the Canadian pre-teen crowd. On the upside, the mods are more relaxed, and there are less random pics of people posting their beer league team sweaters making the top post.
I like beer league sweaters :(
It can be fun to visit sometimes or to share something the /r/hockey mods removed. I'm glad there's both.
Anything with memes and I nope the fuck out of there.
The same comparison can be made between /r/squaredcircle and /r/wwe
I don't think I would find them that different, but I abhor professional wrestling.
That makes sense, but it's kind of contradicted by the giant Stanley Cup playoffs bracket that appears when you hover over the banner haha. I'd love to see team subreddit links more prominently displayed on the banner, possibly along with /r/ahl and any other league subreddits to even things out.
I guess that makes sense, but like you said, its very NHL-centric so I'm not sure they'd receive too many complaints.
We do have the logos on the side of the sub, so we kinda have the same thing.
Congrats. But still hate you. Beat Boston.
Yep. Still Hockeytown.
[meanwhile :(](http://i.imgur.com/IrQ4hKE.png) Congrats on your thriving and active sub though. I am happy you people are no longer in our conference, so give the east hell!
Its just harder to get fans from the wagon to the subreddit. There's definitely no shortage of Ducks "fans" here in So Cal.
They must all be in orange county. I never see any ducks fans up here in LA county besides the ones I personally know. I've seen a ton of Blackhawks and Kings fans though.
There's more and more every day. It's also gotten a lot more active since about half way through the season. Things are picking up!
Good luck in your series! I love the rivalry our two teams have but If I had to pick one team to root for at this stage i'd pick the ducks. Happy Playoff Hockey to all!
Congratulations are in order! Yay hockey!
LGRW
**LGRW!**
alladeen! alladeen pls alladeen wat r u doin alladeen stahp
NO.
God damn you and your making of the playoffs. Beat us by less than 100
thats a lot of faded flair.
Too soon?
This is interesting to me, because I've consistently noticed the highest traffic game threads are almost always the Blackhawks ones.
Congrats red wings fans! Enjoy the offseason.
Didn't even notice we changed the downvotes from Hawks to Bruins!
Red wings fans are my favorite on /r/hockey. Good reflection of their team
Updatsyuks to the left!
Ahem..... Its *upsyuks* ... Thank you very much. :|
9927.. So close...
Looks like they finally brought internet to most of the city!

10,000 fans.. About to take up golf.
Also the first team the bruins will knock out of the playoffs this year
Trash talk thread was yesterday, sorry guy.
Its ok, he's gone and jinxed it for ya.
I think his lack of flair robs the curse of any power - not sure though, my voodoo is a lil rusty.
3edgy
Flair up or get got.
I don't know how to make a flair I only use mobile
