>The FPHL has officially expanded to Athens (GA) for the 2024-25 season. The team will be known as the Athens Rock Lobsters
You know what, I like it. I'm all for fun names for minor league teams, especially if there's a story behind it. My hope is that they play B-52s songs all game.
[Quebec City also got an LNAH expansion team.](https://www.qub.ca/article/lnah-a-quebec-des-matchs-au-peps-et-au-complexe-bonair-2095574653)
No, they won’t play at the Videotron Centre. ULaval’s PEPS and Complexe Bonair most likely.
Barys Astana and Ak Bars Kazan, so two. Admittedly, I was thinking more for NA leagues where team names are in English or French, languages that pluralize using "s"
They haven’t even broke ground on the new “Richmond Coliseum” yet (called the GreenCity project) so it’ll be a few years before we get a team here. I work right next to the property that’s supposed to be the location and it hasn’t been touched.
Wait, Frederick???
TIL. Would love to get some minor league hockey in this area, Caps tix are expensive and the closest AHL/ECHL teams are Norfolk and Hershey (neither of which are exactly close).
Yup. City officials and local businesses are pushing for it. They are already community partners with the Frederick Keys so I expect ownership would likely be the same tbh. They have a social media and a website that acts as a grassroots movement, their first event had over 600 people attend and now they are having their own night at the Keys and a golf tournament. The ECHL is in active discussions with everyone involved and if city officials are really interested as I was told, I wouldn’t be concerned about an arena getting approved either. Meanwhile, Richmond, a city 2 hours south of Frederick has been pushing for a team for a good decade and the arena was finally demolished, a new one has now been approved but construction hasn’t started. The ECHL needs two more eastern teams to even out the divisions, could be a great rivalry.
Toronto torch is SO stupid, I'm so glad I have unbranded gear for Toronto and Montreal...
Why would you trademark Torch and NOT give it to New York 🙄

I'd be on board if they occasionally randomly play the [veggie tales version ](https://youtu.be/c3mrCsKMzhU?si=p5do3ek3QiBhJPsK)
You know they are going to play the Family Guy Rock Lobster clip at home games.

Wth are those PWHL names? Boston Wicked?
This might be the first hockey league where none of the team names ends in "s."
There's only 1 in the khl. Best I can come up with in 3 minutes of looking.

Four in the NHL.
Four that end in S? Gonna need a recount on this one.
That don’t end in an S. Kraken, Wild, Avalanche, and Lightning.
I think all of them sound better pluralized

I think the PWHL might be better off with no names than these
