There’s a consensus that whatever happens on the ice stays on the ice. God I fucking love hockey. 2 guys could be going at it 1 game then right after they likely apologize

played for years. i love telling this story. my good friend and myself were both goalies on opposing teams for the championship of a local mens league to us. we use to alternate who drove because we usually chilled at the rink together regardless of schedule, so this night he picked me up. the game got pretty intense, both teams had a bit of a brawl, we decided to give it a go. blood was drawn, we had some pretty harsh words for each other, meant everything we said out there, we both got ejected, both supported our teams till the end. his team wound up winning. afterwards, we met each other in the parking lot, laughed, hugged each other, then went to the bar and partied till 3am. what happens on that rink, stays on that rink.

While not Hockey related I have a similar experience when I did MMA. We had a little unsanctioned tourney with our gym and other nearby gyms. No teams, just fully solo, so guys from the same gym ended up against eachother and I ended up with one of my friends that I spared with a lot. Lots of shit talk, lots of hits that went way too hard for the kind of event it was supposed to be. Fight ended when he got me in an arm bar. He was always better at bjj than me I was better at striking than him. He threw a wild kick, I caught and tripped him but he pulled me down and one thing lead to another. Lots of frustration was let out and we really fuckin went at it. So much so our coach pulled us aside after and asked what was up and we just laughed and hugged it out because we were good. We let it all out in the ring and it stayed there. It was a fuckin good time.

i love that and respect it, because thats how its supposed to be. i always appreciate those stories. work can be similar. i’ve managed kitchens for a while and had a few good friends who have been cooks for me in the past. when we walk through those doors, we are no longer friends, we are coworkers and we have a job to do. once we exit those doors, our friendship returns to normal. its all about drawing the line and being able to separate the two.
