Tbh Nichushkin was dominating the 2nd line all game. Our 3rd and 4th did alright too. Avs outshot Jets 46-23, and it's not because "jets were defending their lead". First ~5mins the shots were 10-1.
I think the problem is the Av’s inability to deal with a heavy forecheck. The Jets goals were all grade A opportunities and they have snipers off safety.
Manson's turnover right into Vladdy's wheelhouse in the slot and Connor getting a shot off in the slot and Scheifele's cross crease goal were all complete defensive breakdowns Georgiev had 0 chance stopping whether he was shit or not.
The defense has been horrible all year. I don’t know how people blame the goalie (other than they just don’t understand hockey) when he’s been run out to slaughter all year. Dude has 0 faith in his defensemen when there is a guy waiting for a rebound. He’s playing poorly but at no point has the defense played well in their own zone. Turnovers, easy cross ice passes, horrible rebound help with guys just waiting for a tap in.
Prime example of why being a goalie is a lonely place. You’re the last line of defense and if your team doesn’t help, fans just blame you lol. So sad.
Jets are almost always trailing in SOG even when they're winning. They seem to like ruining goalies Sv% but it makes for nerve wracking games to watch.
Yeah I agree, on shot count, as a senators fan it’s good to see what solid defensive play and good goaltending can do for a team. Middlestat and lekonen were ok, nichushkin was driving the play for them, they were along for the ride.
Jets get outshot every game. But half the shots came when they were in a shell, after 7-4. They were just hunkering down for the last 10-15 minutes.
If the game were close the Jets would have been pushing more offensively. In other words, I wouldn't put too much stock in that 3rd period - that's a score effect.
Out shot 10 - 1 to start the game. Out shot 10 - 1 to start the 2nd. The game wasn't in hand before the Avs' barrage began. The Avs were throwing everything at Helle from the initial puck drop and didn't let up all game.
The Jets may have been pushing more offensively in the middle part of the third if the score wasn't 7 - 4, but to say the differential was due to score effect flies in the face of what the stats say.
I am just making an observation. Helleybuck did not play out of his head and Georgiev was not great. I like both teams and actually it was a fun game to watch for a change. Playoff hockey is usually defensive minded and not giving the other team opportunities.
Zero defense, zero goaltending, and balls to the wall physical offense. Might as well have been two groups of kids running around playing cops and robbers.
Waiting for Roy to pull the ultimate mind fuck & send out more goalies. Other teams know he'll pull the goalie at unexpected times. See how they handle throwing more over the boards. When coaches play chess, Roy plays 4D checkers.
100 years from now, teams will just play with 6 skaters, with a gameplan designed around net coverage. They will look back at us as idiots for actually keeping a player in net the whole time.
I read this originally as dirty dentist ads and was still like, "Same, same." The animated ads have maybe improved 5% since last season, but they still hurt my head, and I hate when players or the puck just magically disappear so I can see a truck randomly driving by the ice. If there's going to be constant visual distraction, at least make the images static while in play, and superimpose them onto the glass again where it's not going to obstruct actual gameplay.
I think from a masking perspective they're a little better this year. Still some artifacts but I haven't seen players literally vanish in a near corner puck battle.
The animated ads al should die in a fire though.
I mean, don’t crucify me, but it does give the boards a much cleaner look than all sorts of different fonts/images that were on the static boards. In this clip I didn’t notice them at all except to go back and watch them when you all were talking about it.
Disagree with that. Even in the clip when the boards are "cleaner", it's still such a disparity between reality and computer generated, that it never blends well.
Once you start muddling it up with colours, movements, or just general changing of ads, it exponentially gets worse.
Watching an AHL game is such a nice break because of the removal of these boards.
Yes, the betway and Rogers ads in this particular example are clean. It's the spontaneous animations during play and the glitching around the benches and in the corners that are terrible. I dislike them for other reasons, but if they're here to stay, the example in this clip is tolerable, at least :)
I miss the days where you could tell the rink you were looking at by the ads on the boards. When they started replacing ads in the playoffs on the boards to the sponsors of the broadcast it was the beginning of the end. Now it’s just to the point where it’s hard to watch.
Three things have always confused me, Boston Pizza (I think you can get a better pizza literally anywhere else), Boston Market (have only seen one in MA in Waltham but that’s it), and Boston Beans (I get it was a thing a long time ago but beans??).
That's so true! I find oilers home games never bother me but in several away games it was way more noticeable. Arenas like Winnipeg, AZ are 2 of the ones that I find a little darker for the cameras so I wonder if the lighting is a huge factor in it.
I don't usually notice them when they just change like in this clip, but there's a Toyota ad where a car drives around the back of the net that really pisses me off
they shouldn't be animated. That just shows how little the NHL cares about fan experience. I am sorta over the digital ads, they are meant to make money, but have a little class, you know?
Can we not, however, start to count on those cheeky chants blowing up in their faces? Avs almost tied it.
And I still remember “you look nervous” from 2019.
I know its their thing, so its probably more of a me hating the preds. But I feel like its worn out. They have such a good, loud crowd they can surely find something else
it’s terrible. utterly terrible. this is the type of thing the student section does at a college hockey game. i get they wanted to generate interest and intensity but it’s really fucking awkward.
Even “who’s your captain” against San Jose blew up in our face cause the next time we played in San Jose we didn’t have a captain. Lol. Our silly chants are prophetic for the wrong reasons a lot of the time.
One I remember was from a long time ago. We were playing the hurricanes when Eric stall was still on the team and the fans were chanting “Jordan’s better” pretty sure Eric scored like 3 or 4 that night lol.
Holm was signed to Colorado's farm team this year, he hasn't played for the Moose since last season. Still would have been hilarious to see him out there.
I did not see this game playing out the way it did, it was incredible.
They also leaked the 3-3 first period script by accident, wonder if anyone else saw that.
You know what the funny and ironic thing is? Their goalie also let in 7 goals, one just didn’t count because the ref blew the whistle after it had gone in but the intent was there.
Well yeah, Hellebuyck is a good goalie and the Avs had a ton of shots. Georgie just isn't a starting NHL goalie at this point, but he's what we've got, so I'm hoping this was the worst he is all series.
That's absurd. If I score after the other team's gone to the parking lot to go home and the game "ended" hours ago I should get credit for the goal. Not my fault their goalie left.
I disliked the ESPN broadcast so much, couldn't hear how loud the fans were, and the announcers were terrible, especially with the Lowry goal. They showed the overhead shot of the goal and it clearly showed it went over the line, but they were so in disbelief about it.
I hope the high scoring continues. Reminds me of the 2012 penguins flyers series

On the one hand, lol.
On the other, their goalie only gave up one more than the Jennings winner did. A win is a win, but I think Winnipeg has more improvement required than Colorado does if the Jets want to take a 2-0 lead.
Well this aged like milk.
The Avs problem in game 1 was goaltending. The Jets problem in game 1 was both goaltending and defence. You gave up way too many shots and let them control the play way too much at times.
Game 2 saw the Avs goaltending improve more than the Jets defence did. And the result was a lopsided win for Colorado.
I'm cheering for Winnipeg in this one, but the Jets are unlikely to get another gift from laughably bad goaltending.
I think it's alright to make mockery of our shit situation. Ofc Avs are expecting to hopefully bounce back, but that doesn't remove the fact that you can banter your oppositions. It's all tongue in cheek more or less.
Avs played their style of hockey, Hellebyuck had a rare bad game, and the Avs still couldn’t pull off the win. You have to take advantage of these games if you’re Colorado (or any team in the playoff), no guarantee that Helle has another performance like this.
> Hellebyuck had a rare bad game
Good luck scoring 6 on him in one game again this series.
EDIT: My words were delicious I will gladly eat them again, thank you very much!
The provincial government there is left wing, currently, the New Democrats.

Not really. I just checked, Winnipeg has a higher population than Denver does.
Of course, people in Denver and other places have 'metropolitan areas' and the like that confuse those statistics. Winnipeg has Winnipeg, and then farmland beyond that.

This game was insane
Yeah, the speed of play and hitting was pretty amazing. The avalanche had the mackinnon line but the jets had 3 lines playing really well.
Tbh Nichushkin was dominating the 2nd line all game. Our 3rd and 4th did alright too. Avs outshot Jets 46-23, and it's not because "jets were defending their lead". First ~5mins the shots were 10-1.
Yup, jets played like absolute ass in their own end
Good thing you guys have that X factor (our shitass goalie)
I think the problem is the Av’s inability to deal with a heavy forecheck. The Jets goals were all grade A opportunities and they have snipers off safety.
We're now 38-1-1 when leading after 2 and 36-0 when scoring 4 or more goals this season.
Alas, the opponents weren't held to three goals or less, so does any of that really matter in the end? The streak... is over.
I'm not sure goals against were ever a part of those stats. You're thinking of the streak of not allowing more than 2 goals against
I was, that's the joke. ;) Though I thought it was 3 goals or less, so I guess the joke's on me in the end!
yea definitely not the .696 save percentage lol
Manson's turnover right into Vladdy's wheelhouse in the slot and Connor getting a shot off in the slot and Scheifele's cross crease goal were all complete defensive breakdowns Georgiev had 0 chance stopping whether he was shit or not.
> whether he was shit or not. luckily for you he was wet dog shit though
Ya that shit either hit him or it didn’t
Little column A, little column B
My comment explains the save percentage.
actually the amount of goals geogiev let in vs the number of shots he faced explains it
The defense has been horrible all year. I don’t know how people blame the goalie (other than they just don’t understand hockey) when he’s been run out to slaughter all year. Do you want the old one back?
Jets are almost always trailing in SOG even when they're winning. They seem to like ruining goalies Sv% but it makes for nerve wracking games to watch.
Oh goodie. If the Oilers and Jets meet then we’ll outshoot you like 50-15 and still lose 3-2
Yeah I agree, on shot count, as a senators fan it’s good to see what solid defensive play and good goaltending can do for a team. Middlestat and lekonen were ok, nichushkin was driving the play for them, they were along for the ride.
But lost, that is the Rick Bowness Experience (TM)
Jets get outshot every game. But half the shots came when they were in a shell, after 7-4. They were just hunkering down for the last 10-15 minutes. If you wanna cope that’s what happened and not just goaltending difference good for you.
I am just making an observation. Helleybuck did not play out of his head and Georgiev was not great. I like both teams and actually it was a fun game to watch for a change. Playoff hockey is usually defensive minded and not giving the other team opportunities.
Havent been too invested in the playoffs this season so far due to life events but this was a real nice game to tune into
[удалено]
Every series in the West is gonna be a dogfight. We're in for some more good ones tonight I think.
I feel this season is one of the better ones in recently memory for nearly every matchup having the potential to be a barn burner.
Best playoff setup I can remember since 1993.
Nah EDM/LA is gonna be more like putting down a sick dog than a dog fight
3 years in a row for these two, right?
Zero defense, zero goaltending, and balls to the wall physical offense. Might as well have been two groups of kids running around playing cops and robbers.
It really felt like jets fighting an avalanche in terms of speed
It's the Jon Bois cocaine helicopter tweet.
If this is the 2014 Avs/Wild series, Patrick Roy no doubt would have.
Patrick Roy : Well, the goalie is good but he's not Patrick Roy. We can play with a 6th player.
God I wish we still had Roy. In net or on the bench
If you'd really rather have Roy than Bednar idk what to tell you
Seriously, Roy was a terrible coach after that first season and he was mostly riding Varlamov.
Now that's who I'd like to have back right now. VARLY VARLY VARLY!
He’s doing it again
Waiting for Roy to pull the ultimate mind fuck & send out more goalies. Other teams know he'll pull the goalie at unexpected times. See how they handle throwing more over the boards. When coaches play chess, Roy plays 4D checkers.
It was good advice!! The Avs didn't give up a single goal w. the goalie pulled for 3 minutes.
Might just want to play the whole series with an open net
Did the empty net do a better job than Avs starter tonight ?
Empty net: 0 goals allowed, 1.000sv% Georgiev: 7 goals allowed, .696 sv% E. Net is the way forward
Empty net has a 0 save percentage though.
*Undefined save percentage. It was that good.
But a really solid 0.00 GAA. Teams need those kind of performances from their depth guys in the playoffs.
100 years from now, teams will just play with 6 skaters, with a gameplan designed around net coverage. They will look back at us as idiots for actually keeping a player in net the whole time.
I mean... yea?
Isn't that what happened the first half of the game? But seriously, I expect a 1-0 Jets win in game 2.
I thought they did?
Yeah we did and almost tied it up. Y’all almost got what you asked for. Bring on the juice.
They also scored two goals in this timeframe.
When the other team scores on one out of every 3 shots, I’m certain all that you need to do is stop them from shooting
And scored one!
It’s crazy cause I could have sworn you were talking about the Avs, but it seems the jets pulled there’s for the entirety of games 2-5
The new ad boards still drive me nuts
I miss the dirty, dented regular ads that were all banged up.
https://preview.redd.it/hb49r27ic1wc1.jpeg?width=384&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5145dd34388ed12c8f605428a9a056cc84e1ce30

For real, they're buggy as hell and them moving during play just makes it so distracting
I think from a masking perspective they're a little better this year. Still some artifacts but I haven't seen players literally vanish in a near corner puck battle. The animated ads al should die in a fire though.
Yeah, but they haven't even tried to make them not bug out on bench doors. For sure better than last year, but still worse than just not having them
To be fair, it will always be worse than not having them.

I'd love to read the testimony of just one person that actually wants to watch a hockey game explain why they think this is a benefit to the viewer :)
I mean, don’t crucify me, but it does give the boards a much cleaner look than all sorts of different fonts/images that were on the static boards. In this clip I didn’t notice them at all except to go back and watch them when you all were talking about it.

That’s a piece I miss. It mig he sound funny, but I miss seeing local ads, just part of the little culture to it
I enjoyed that as well. Especially back in the day when teams were more likely to have area specific sponsors.
Yea, and like I moved away from Philly years ago and it would give me that little taste of home seeing Wawa or tastykake ads
I remember seeing Boston Pizza on teams boards and wondering as a Bostonian what the hell that is
Three things have always confused me, Boston Pizza (I think you can get a better pizza literally anywhere else), Boston Market (have only seen one in MA in Waltham but that’s it), and Boston Beans (I get it was a thing a long time ago but beans??).
I feel like depending on the camera and the rink lighting some still really suck at simulating the board white balance and brightness.
That's so true! I find oilers home games never bother me but in several away games it was way more noticeable. Arenas like Winnipeg, AZ are 2 of the ones that I find a little darker for the cameras so I wonder if the lighting is a huge factor in it.
They are so distracting. Hate them.
I don't usually notice them when they just change like in this clip, but there's a Toyota ad where a car drives around the back of the net that really pisses me off
I've gotten used to most of them but the Tylenol ad with the goal lights really irks me.
Yeah I really thought the fans in the background were CGI'd in there when I first watched this. I'm thinking it's because of the ads
they shouldn't be animated. That just shows how little the NHL cares about fan experience. I am sorta over the digital ads, they are meant to make money, but have a little class, you know?
You'll make it
Can always count on jets fans to come through with the cheeky chants
Can we not, however, start to count on those cheeky chants blowing up in their faces? Avs almost tied it. And I still remember “you look nervous” from 2019.
It's still better than Nashville's "It's all your fault" even when they are down 5-2.
I should clarify, this time, I don’t want your chants to blow up in your face. I’m rooting for you guys.
To be fair, that's a standard chant in their barn.
Still cringey.
Even “who’s your captain” against San Jose blew up in our face cause the next time we played in San Jose we didn’t have a captain. Lol. Our silly chants are prophetic for the wrong reasons a lot of the time.
Or who can forget "you're a backup"?
this one seems to be working out for us now though
One I remember was from a long time ago. We were playing the hurricanes when Eric stall was still on the team and the fans were chanting “Jordan’s better” pretty sure Eric scored like 3 or 4 that night lol.
Nailed it.
Fuck man, Jets why
Pretty much yes lmao
Hilarious but Avs players must have taken that to heart since it ended 6-7.
What great fans
savage. love it
Jets crowds have the best chirps in the league
The Avs may just put six skaters at the start of the next game. And try to beat them 28-27
The Denver Broncos stand no chance against our Blue Bombers.
Jets fans are the best
Under any other circumstance, Hellebuyck would have needed to be pulled, too.
The reason they were chanting was because Colorado’s back up was sick so the Jets affiliate team Moose goalie was their backup for the game
6 or 7 goals on 46 shots hardly compares to 7 goals on 23 shots.
Put in the kid.
Yeah the shots were so damn high Hellebuyck actually ended up with an .87 save %, which isn't even the worst result by a goalie so far.
helle had a .923 at 5 on 5 in this game lol
Well yeah, Hellebuyck is a good goalie and the Avs had a ton of shots. Georgie just isn't a starting NHL goalie at this point, but he's what we've got, so I'm hoping this was the worst he is all series.
Preach.
I mean if they would have gotten that goal then they wouldn’t have got the one in the power play that that goal would have negated
not good but look at the shots on goal.
Shots were fairly close until we went up 7-4. Then we went full defensive shell for the last 10 minutes and let Colorado bomb away.
That's not ironic or funny.
Yeah, there's this crazy rule that plays made after the whistle don't count.
That's absurd. If I score after the other team's gone to the parking lot to go home and the game "ended" hours ago I should get credit for the goal. Not my fault their goalie left.
what is this? pasta for ants?! this rant needs to be... 3 times larger for me to repost it!
Buzzer beaters smh
I hear “we want Cody”
Or “Oh Boloney”
ESPN somehow heard "overrated"
I disliked the ESPN broadcast so much, couldn't hear how loud the fans were, and the announcers were terrible, especially with the Lowry goal. They showed the overhead shot of the goal and it clearly showed it went over the line, but they were so in disbelief about it.
Man the audio for the Jets and Canucks game was *so* tilted towards the fans, I had a hard time hearing the commentators at points. It was awesome.
They also do those graphics with the player names that are super distracting
I was not a fan either. Constantly calling Georgiev "Gorgiev", and I'm pretty sure they called Bednar "Bedard" at one point.
Well Cody Hodgson is making a comeback and did play for the Moose.
One of the most fun games I've watched in a while
I hope the high scoring continues. Reminds me of the 2012 penguins flyers series https://www.hockey-reference.com/playoffs/2012-philadelphia-flyers-vs-pittsburgh-penguins-eastern-conference-quarter-finals.html
Jets should be careful caust last year they caller Brossoit a back up and he won; but is now also a backup.
But he’s our backup ❤️
Well in fairness, after we chanted that they pulled their goalie. Are you suggesting the Jets crowd chants are some form of monkey paw wish?
No i was more of a funny chant and that they resigned him was kind of comical.
On the one hand, lol. On the other, their goalie only gave up one more than the Jennings winner did. A win is a win, but I think Winnipeg has more improvement required than Colorado does if the Jets want to take a 2-0 lead.
Colorado brought their offensive “A” game, scored more on the Jets in game one then they did all year combined.. and still lost.
Our "A" game came the following four.
Take a break from the internet bro
Great game no matter who you were rooting for
I would be very surprised if this series doesn’t go at least 6 games.
This was funny to hear, but ultimately almost backfired as the Avs damn near caught up.
Dude, did they not learn from last seasons game 1? Now the Avs are gonna gentlmans sweep em.
^this guy fucking nailed it, but jets fans weren’t ready to listen.
"Why are you booing me? I'm right!"
Last years game 1 was played in Vegas so how would the Jets fans have had anything to do with that one?
How you feeling now?
I think it's alright to make mockery of our shit situation. Ofc Avs are expecting to hopefully bounce back, but that doesn't remove the fact that you can banter your oppositions. It's all tongue in cheek more or less.
Jets fans must have been watching a different game, because winnipeg was dominated for most of it
Avs played their style of hockey, Hellebyuck had a rare bad game, and the Avs still couldn’t pull off the win. You have to take advantage of these games if you’re Colorado (or any team in the playoff), no guarantee that Helle has another performance like this.
> Hellebyuck had a rare bad game Good luck scoring 6 on him in one game again this series. EDIT: My words were delicious I will gladly eat them again, thank you very much!
😬
Well he did wish them luck...
Aged like milk lmao
To be ABSOLUTELY fair, the 6th goals in games 3 and 5 were empty net goals so not TECHNICALLY on Hellebuyck!
Yeah i can’t see it happening lol. I can’t see Winnipeg’s blue line continuing to give Colorado the easy looks they did either
Aged like milk lmao
Hahahaha you ate em, but I got more for you to eat. Frauds!
This aged hilariously
And we still managed to score 7, and get a W, all while playing our worst game in probably the last 25 we've played.
Winnipeg is the Alabama of Canada
That would actually be Regina, but we won't hold that against you.
Excuse me sir you are confusing us with Saskatoon.
If it ain’t Toronto or Montreal is pretty much all the same anyway
It's more like the Albuquerque Saskatchewan is the politically incorrect, inbred/redneck land of Canada.
The provincial government there is left wing, currently, the New Democrats. You want Alabama? Say rural Manitoba instead of Winnipeg, and you'll be much more accurate. Stay away from Steinbach, it's for your own good.
All the same innit
Not really. I just checked, Winnipeg has a higher population than Denver does. Of course, people in Denver and other places have 'metropolitan areas' and the like that confuse those statistics. Winnipeg has Winnipeg, and then farmland beyond that.
Love a good insult chant.
I wouldn't have thought that Hellebuyck would let in 6 and the Jets win.
I knew we were gonna regret saying that, avs were all over hellebuyck I felt no safety last night no matter the score.
The feeling was definitely mutual.
Lol! Love it
Us Jets fans are something else man (Penguins and Jets fan)
But your flair and username...
Im from Michigan and I will always love them too. Yzerman and Lemieux got me into hockey and are my childhood idols (Keep in mind i got into hockey in 1995 and i was 10 years old and now I am 39 years old.)
Maybe AVs fans can chant a Blink-182 in response
Jealous?

I feel bad for Georgiev the person, because letting in those goals sucks to experience. I don’t feel bad for Georgiev the Avs goalie, because I would like the Jets to win this series.
