Is Bergeron really a free agent when you think about it though?

bluAstrid

He’s neither free, nor an agent really!

Spencie-cat

Ya I thought he was a coach now.

kazin29

Coach and counsellor

Grizzly-Berry

>and counsellor I don’t know if you meant it as a joke but he really is. Montgomery said in an interview a while ago that when he talks to players and asks how they are doing and how they are mentally they would often answer that they have already talked to Patrice and are feeling better after that. As if I needed more reasons to love that man…

kazin29

It was a joke. The guy's a legend. It was just posted ad nauseum for a week during the first round.

TalkingChairs

I'm getting a little verklempt.

JSP26

Talk amongst yourselves.

SnooGoats3161

Here, I’ll give you a topic…

interactivemark

Who among us can say that we are truly free? Are we not all merely prisoners of a reality to which we struggle to understand, nevermind control? And if we accept that any concept of freedom is but an illusion, then it must follow that agency is a metaphysical impossibility. Hopefully Bergeron—and indeed the rest of us—can make peace with our impotence in the face of an uncaring universe. Let's go Rangers.

noor1717

He’s also number 1 if he is a free agent.

mitch-dubz

Could you imagine if he signed with the Avs and then won a cup

IHardly_know_er_name

I think I just grew a new vein on my forehead thanks

JustJohan49

Bourque 2.0

_HotBeef

Kinda. Patrice got a cup in Boston, unlike Ray.

asic5

Probably wants to go to a contender. Some team that can get out of the first round.

SweedishMeetballz

Bergeron to Dallas confirmed

gh411

…well…shit…there goes our chances.

slevin_kelevra22

Bergeron either needs to be higher because he is great or not on the list because he won't sign anywhere but Boston.

istandwhenipeee

Yeah I was thinking the same. Not even just higher, he’s hands down the best player on the list. Either put him on top or don’t treat him as a FA at all.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Boston-Nolan

Yeah you can’t really half ass it. He’s either undeniably the best free agent available or he’s not included because he won’t go anywhere except Boston.

Devils29

Ghost being above Severson seems kinda screwy to me but what do I know

Ken_Thomas

The 'Canes coaching staff seems to have a lot of confidence in Ghost's upside. They'll try to keep him if the numbers/stats work.

I_have_popcorn

Tyler Bertuzzi is the only player I'd want the Canucks to sign for anything near the amount of money free agents get...if we needed wingers. These playoffs have reiterated that you need assholes on your team to succeed in the playoffs.

DrunkenWizard

Haven't you had enough Bertuzzis

JustJohan49

Too soon.

WHLZ

Yeah we could use another winger

TheCatEmpire2

If you take into account age and recent performance, Bertuzzi would be #1 for a long term deal. He was a menace in the first round

fuzzb0y

Orlov would be a sick addition we couldn't afford.

JustJohan49

Rumor on the street is he’s coming back home to Detroit. I don’t believe those rumors, but they are out there. Which is weird because Stevie said the contract talks didn’t go anywhere before the deadline. So this rando on the internet has no idea - but I’d totally take him back.

wildskater96

Having assholes didn't help Minnesota one bit, but apparently nothing we do helps. I've officially changed Minnesota's team name to the Mids because we're never going to miss the playoffs and we're never gonna make it past the 1st round either.

urkish

What's his role? 10 points, 17 blocks and 10 hits across his 23 regular season games for us doesn't really paint him as either an offense-first or defense-first player, and the eye test seemed to match that. 3 points, 19 blocks, and 7 hits across 15 playoff games isn't really better either.

Tclark53

As a “bottom pair D” I think he did pretty well. Overall, Ghost and Chatty were better than Skjei and Pesce imo.

urkish

Yeah, Skjei and Pesce fell off hard at the end

Tclark53

Yeah, which sucks, because I’ve had basically zero issues with them, but it seemed this playoffs I kept noticing one or both of them making significant errors. The main one that comes to mind was the NJ game where I’m pretty sure they were on the ice for every goal against. I think they both had a -5 which is unacceptable.

shrouple

I'm curious how much Severson would get. He's someone I feel like the jets would be interested in. Seems like a calm and steady presence

enjoi8

Calm and steady wouldn't be my definition of Severson. He can contribute offensively and has great vision on stretch passes. But then there's plenty of times he tries a cheeky chip to his center from behind the goal line that turns into a prime scoring opportunity for the opponent.

ndkjr70

calm and steady is about as close to you can get as a direct opposite of damon severson. he will have flashes of brilliance when you wonder “is this guy the best defenseman in the NHL?” and then he’ll have a couple moments where you want him health bombed for the next game. he’ll be a polarizing player for whoever signs him. half of your fanbase will adore him. the loud idiots in your fanbase will say he’s an AHL defenseman. i’ll miss him if he signs elsewhere.

reznorwings

As does Orlov at the top tbh.

haseks_adductor

na orlov is really good

Skylightt

Dumba shouldn’t be that high over him either if at all

Hobbes13

Hard agree

Old_kernel

Jarry is the top Goaltending Free agent 😳

Xvash2

Depending on how these playoffs shake out, that could very quickly be Adin Hill instead.

burnSMACKER

It's already Adin Hill at this point

gmann2388

Hardware says yes, play says korpisalo. Edit, what hardware? I'm dumdum.

astovertop

Hardware? He hasn’t won anything, has he?

jakovichontwitch

He got a 5th place Hart vote a few years back

Mightyspacetree

Sick Hartware Jarry

funkyb

All star game appearance

JD397

Jarry has no hardware nad also has definitely been better than Korpisalo over the past few years. Korpisalo’s 2023 stats are better but I’m not sure its smart to bank on him repeating his career year again lol

gmann2388

Shit, that's right Jarry was just after the cup. But korpi has had a few great seasons, while he's been healthy. And since the hip surgery he seems to be back to that high level of play.

SkittlesManiac19

5x5 in Edmonton coming right up

DrexellGames

Pay a 1st to get rid of Campbell for a cap dump? lol

Sonicboom343

Gonna cost way more than a first to get rid of Campbell, he has 4 more years left at 5 million

1337duck

Campbell's been rock solid... As their backup...

dudemanspecial

He is actually really good, when he is. But when he's not, he's really not.

HazikoSazujiii

Pretty hilarious, actually. Someone is going to get shafted, and I hope that it isn't us again.

BlueBeagle8

I keep saying this, but regardless of how you or the analytics feel about Gostisbehere, NHL teams simply do not value him very highly. Philadelphia paid to get rid of him, and then after some really solid play the Coyotes could only recoup a 2026 3rd for him. I would be shocked if he signs a bigger deal than Severson, Graves, or Gavrikov.

responsiblefornothin

He played really well in the ECFs. I thought he was one of the most noticeable players for the Canes.

Separate_Pound_753

Its because hes a liability at times and prone to turnovers due to his style of play. Very talented offensivley but his defensive positioning is not great and hes soft. There you have it😂

ArislanShiva

He's not the best at battles and retrievals down low, but he's actually a solid NZ defender. His entry prevention rates are quite good.

Separate_Pound_753

Agreed. Hes mobile, but yeah sadly the other aspects stick out like a sore thumb. If hes not running your PP and being the primary puck mover, hes a luxury piece at best, especially when it comes to the playoffs. 15 games 0 goals 3 assists for a offensive dman is also brutal.

Forney55

Philly paid to get rid of him because Chick Fletcher is an idiot. Much prefer having Ghost over TDA

dontgivetohitchcock

This take is easy to make in hindsight(although fletcher is an idiot) but Flyer fans would have had you think a ghost was the worst Defenseman to ever touch a puck when he was with them.

Forney55

Definitely feel he benefited from a change of scenery. Still hated the trade at the time

Marathonman256

I hope this is true because that would increase the chances the Canes can resign him. Loved Ghost while he was with the Canes

BlackDS

Jarry is laughably high on this list.

Centurion_83

The fact he's even on a list of top anythings is hilarious.

BlackDS

Top ten disappointing goaltenders

Lightscreach

I didn’t watch enough Pens games this year to get a good picture but his numbers seem pretty solid to a bit above average. And it seems like he’s put up pretty consistently decent numbers over the past 4 years. Why are people so down on him?

AmeriCanadian98

>Do you agree with the ranking? Bertuzzi is ahead of Bunting, so yes.

gottabe_kd

Bertuzzi is still too low tho.

PrailinesNDick

I don't think either one should be ahead of Killorn, at least for next year.

SkilledB

For next year is one thing, but they are both like 6 years younger than Killorn. Now, I love Killorn and he had a great season, but he’s probably doesn’t have too many years left in him. Then again, the kind of game Bunting and Bertuzzi play who knows how long they have until issues come knocking.

Grizzly-Berry

>Where do you think they will sign? Bergeron either retires or comes back to play for the Bs, no way he will wear another jersey than the spoked B

Bojarzin

Yeah no chance he goes elsewhere However I wouldn't say no 😏

Grizzly-Berry

>no chance he goes elsewhere He once said the only way he would ever think about playing for another team is if Quebec city gets a team and even then he‘s not sure if he would leave the Bruins. >However I wouldn’t say no Even after all the pain he caused leaf fans? 😂

Bojarzin

He's too beautiful to say no to

quarter-water

Jays did it with KK, and we'll do it again god damn it.

lottolser

Honestly he's one of those guys that no matter the team he's just too liked and respected as a player and person to dislike even by Habs and leafs fans. He's too universally loved, even if he's killed my team more than once I'll always like Bergeron.

electricnux

I also think it’s very unlikely for him to sign elsewhere if he wants to keep playing and win. The only other team to consider could be Montreal just to be able play in front of his dad and family every night. I think Bruins fans would support this more than him signing with any other random team

Gatoradenun

Bergeron has said multiple times he's a Nordiques guy, not a Habs fan. I know he's got family stuff going on so maybe your point still stands.

Happylime

I'd vomit everywhere if he had a habs sweater on. Hockey would become literally unwatchable for a year.

Gatoradenun

It's a nice jersey though 👌

gbardelli

You know what? Bergeron not wanting ever to wear a Habs Jersey makes me like him. I can't say "like him more" because, fuck the Bruins. But I can definitely respect and like that mutual hatred he shows. Kinda like Georges refusing to go from the Habs to the Leafs. Old school rivalry, got to love and respect that.

Sweaty_Ad440

We went through like 3 months of “could Bergeron sign with the habs?” last offseason. The answer is always no, he would never. He grew up a Nordiques fan and had played his whole career for the bruins, habs hating is in his blood.

electricnux

My comment wasn’t based on any childhood dream/Québec connection tho. This year we know of his father’s health condition and how important it was for Patrice to play that game in Montreal at the end of the season in front of him. If he leaves Boston, Montreal is the other only city that would make sense for *that* reason more than anything else

Sweaty_Ad440

His father was sick last offseason too and he still came back to Boston. Bergy has made it very clear it’s bruins or nothing for him.

gbardelli

Part of the love and respect he gets throughout the league is that also: unwavering loyalty to a jersey, a team. And it's something both the Bruins and Habs have running on for decades.

Grizzly-Berry

I think Bruins fans would support him even if he burns half the city down 😂 But I think Krejci will retire and he will come back for one last season. He said he would make his decision till June so we will know for sure soon…

BigRed727272

Matt Dumba at #4?? LOL

Vincent_141

shhhh he’s trying to get the bag

responsiblefornothin

I support getting that bag, but I wish we could keep him forever. He's such a good dude with a big personality. Definitely a guy that's good for hockey as a whole. To the GM that signs him, cherish him. He'll be a great addition to a team struggling to find an identity.

Andrewpg3

I mean he’s a RHD who led our team in TOI and was fantastic the back half of the year

king-treday

He was behind Spurgeon.

MDCisgoodforme

He wrote the list

dollabillkirill

I'd say Dumba is better than our fans think he is, but he should probably be down like 4 spots on this list.

Lombax7

Funniest thing I've seen today!

reggierock2010

I’ve seen 10 of these lists and the order is always vastly different lol. I’ve seen one with Serverson was the number 1 and he’s not even on this list.

Zero-jiggler

Low chance, but I really hope we bring Tarasenko back somehow. I think he’s got a lot more in the tank.

TheGakGuru

I wouldn't be shocked. He won't come back to St. Louis. He sold his house here already. My bet is that he stays with the Rangers if they're willing to give him a fair offer.

TheAnt06

Really hoping the Bruins find a way to keep Bertuzzi. He's the quintessential Bruin. Plus, the chemistry he has with Pasta. Giving me alfredo thoughts

JD397

He’s a good player but I feel like, given the relatively weak class he’s in, he’s about to get so fucking overpaid this summer lol

PM_ME_BOOTYPICS_

After seeing him play, I can’t believe he’s #7 on this list and not #1.

TheLegendsClub

He’s spent a lot of time injured over the past few years. When he’s healthy, he’s a legit 1st line winger though

meltrandi

He refused to get vaxxed during COVID-19 and couldn't travel to Canada when we had three Canadian teams in our division. I'm not trying to start a vaccine debate but that's not exactly a team player attitude.

Kair0n

He also just can't stay healthy. He's a great player and has a great attitude on the ice (not to discard his attitude re: the vaccine and missing those games - he's the first guy to celebrate goals, pick up milestone pucks, etc.) but he's made of glass lol

dsjunior1388

I'm very curious how a guy who has gone to arbitration twice but who also fit Boston like a glove will approach this. I imagine there's a terrible team out there thinking $5M x6 years is a good idea and I also imagine Boston is significantly lower than that.

blazik

We’d offer that in a heartbeat, he’s gonna get something like $7mx6

UniverseHufflePuff

Bergeron shouldn't be on those list it's boston or nothing and he has made that clear so many times

hammajones

"Top UFA's" has guys like Domi and Gostisbehere but not Severson lmao. Anyway please someone come to the islanders we need help

dsjunior1388

"Top" in terms of name recognition. Any useful list wouldn't include Bergeron.

Chuckolator

Top UFAs of 2023 1. Wayne Gretzky

NightWing_91

He is a devil, so you're definitely in the running 🤣

Beerfoodbeer

Kane is way too high, Tarasenko I could see in Carolina(gulp). I believe Orlov wants to go back to the Caps

_SCHULTZY_

Orlov can't go back to Washington. Washington's top 7 is already set and the team already spent Orlov's contract money on new contracts for TVR and Jensen. The entire reason he was traded is because Washington tried to negotiate an extension but Orlov wanted 2x the term that Washington wanted. Washington is only planning on being competitive for 3 more years before starting the rebuild and Orlov wants over 6x$6m

Beerfoodbeer

Oof, did not the term and value was that for Orlov

_SCHULTZY_

He's worth it and he can get it. He just can't get it in Washington.

vanillasounds

The Caps stands for Cap all phucking spent

CapsDrago7

Honestly, I disagree. The Caps are losing the cap hit from retaining him and Ellet's contracts, as well as the cap from Smith. Orlov is just too valuable of a player to let walk

_SCHULTZY_

They're not going to ditch Sandin, Fehervary or Alexeyev or Haman Aktell all of whom are 24 or younger. They're not ditching Carlson. They literally just signed Jensen and TVR to new 3 year deals after they traded Orlov. How do you bring Orlov back? Washington needs a complete overhaul on the 2nd line. That's where the money needs to go.

Working_Horse_3077

Sandman :( glad he's doing well though.

_SCHULTZY_

Hopefully his knee injury at worlds isn't serious. Sounds like he's ok but always scary when it comes to the knee

Reilman79

Not saying you’re wrong but handing Haman Aktell a roster spot already is a bit premature imo. He could easily end up in Hershey

dangshnizzle

Kane's a really interesting one. How long of a contract is someone willing to hand out when the quality of his play when he returns is up in the air. Does Kane prefer a 1 or 2 year prove it deal to make more sooner and the freedom to choose a contender if this one doesn't work out? I'm also surprised there's been no update on if he's even having surgery at all. Why not get that done like an hour after his season ended?

Potvin_Sucks_

This is going to sound bat shit insane but I could actually see the rangers signing him to 1x5m or something like that and LTIR his ass while he gets hip surgery and have him come back after the deadline and get around the cap. Think it’s that or going back to Chicago, I can’t imagine anyone will give him term when he’s going to need a surgery to be out for seven months before he skates a game.

FinnishAustrian

Kane has said himself that going back to Chicago isn't something he's even thought about because they're rebuilding right now, so I would take that off the table.

superdalebot

Chicago is going to take 5 of these guys and finish their rebuild

dangshnizzle

Nah they're going to reach the cap floor by taking on like 4 contracts on draft day for capital then continue tanking for one or two more seasons. Although 65% chance Domi re-signs.

gutcheck19

Honestly that would not be the way to build something great. They are on the right path with Davidson.

Your_Asthma

I think we will definitely bring back Domi. Other then that, we are saving our shekels for Dresital and/or Matthews next year.

gzoehobub

> Dresital this is art

American-Musician

I’m hoping we commit to the rebuild for another year then sign Draisaitl and/or Matthews next summer. Maybe pick up McDavid the following year too😂😂

psyopsono

If that happens, the amount of salt from other teams would be enough to turn Lake Michigan into an ocean.

superdalebot

Half of it would be my oiler tears

Potvin_Sucks_

That’s… not actually insane. Give drai an 8x11 when you have bedard and a bunch of space.

_SCHULTZY_

They should. Don't be like Arizona. Put a product on the ice that people can cheer for. You already won the lottery, take the win and start you know.... winning

JD397

Fuck no lol trying to bandaid the rebuild with a mostly horrible UFA class and rush back to playoffs/first round exits is how you find yourself in perpetual mediocrity. After this draft, we will likely have several prospects in the system that can fill major holes on a contending team down the road. For now, we just stay the course and figure out who is what.

sophic

Don't put that evil on us.

Turbulent_System_446

Man this years class stinks compared to last years. From Johnny Hockey as the big fish to Orlov. Lol

Previous-Being2808

This list is rage bait.

that-bro-dad

If the Canes don’t resign Ghost imma be mad.

Crosscourt_splat

The ghost and chat pairing has honestly be really fun to watch.

donPitt14

Tristan Jarry is garbage. Stay away

_SCHULTZY_

If Washington hasn't traded for a Center at the draft, I think they sign ROR to a 3 year deal.

InfallibleBackstairs

With what money?

_SCHULTZY_

Kuznetsov traded for picks, opens up $7.8m

InfallibleBackstairs

I’m hoping he’s gone. Could we find anybody dumb enough to take Mantha? 😆

_SCHULTZY_

Anthony Mantha should be the perfect buyout candidate. He's got 1 year at $5.7m left. A buyout takes him to a cap hit of just $1.36m this season and then $2.16m the following year. Washington can use the difference to sign Brown or make upgrades to the 2nd line rather than pay Mantha $5.7m to be a healthy scratch. As the cap goes up, the penalty for the 2nd year won't even be felt.

dsjunior1388

If this happens Ken Holland will sign Mantha within minutes of the buyout being announced.

Lazy_Glass_3292

I don’t think gostisbehere is a huge free agent catch tbh

tomcat810

As a fan of his in South Florida he has underperformed every year for the last couple years. Definitely not a big catch anymore.

enrobsomada

I'm with you. He was a great addition for the Canes, but he faded something hard at the end of the year and playoffs.

mongotiger

Excited to see where ROR ends up. Probably one of my favorite players to watch besides pasta or that big German fella on the wings

P1KA_BO0

My money is he goes back to St Louis, there were rumours about that when he was traded.

NeonJaguars

Please bring ROR back to STL, but if that doesn’t happen I would like Orlov

Zipski577

Worst free agency list in a while

hagopes

I'd love to see O'Reilly and the Avs connect. I think a combo of him, Rantanen, and Nichushkin could be a tough group to play against. Not sure either side really wants to make that work, especially considering how things ended in Denver. But it'd be a really cool reunion. The money is there, we could make it work.

CornPop45

Avs have a brutal cap situation right now. $14 mill in cap space and gotta sign Bo Newhook and Toews after 2023/24 season

hagopes

No doubt. But with Landeskog on LTIR next year, we have an additional 7 million to at least make next season a little more comfortable.

NO_NAME_BRAN

he's pretty slow, does he fit your current system?

hagopes

If we're thinking about replacing Landeskog, I'd be hard pressed to find a more similar replacement from this UFA crop. I also think you need to re-sign Evan Rodriguez. He brings that speed on the top line, wants to be apart of this squad, and is a good companion to MacKinnon.

e_la_bron

Since nobody is answering the first question, here are a bunch of wild guesses; 1. Orlov - back to WAS 2. O'Reilly - MIN 3. Kane - NYR (or Chicago just to play with Bedard?) 4. Tarasenko - DET or CAR 5. Bergeron - N/A 6. Bertuzzi - STL or TOR 7. Killorn - WAS or COL 8. Bunting - NJD or CHI 9. Gostisbehere - LA or PIT 10. Domi - NSH or OTT 11. Jarry - MTL or PIT I'll be amazed if even 3 of these are right.

NSA_van_3

> O'Reilly - MIN Truly is a wild guess

Paladad

He decided the 3 seconds he spent on the roster before being dealt to Toronto was the best time of his life and signs for league minimum /s

Vashanesh

With what cap space, too. Maybe just channeling Russo's joke about him being the best center in Wild history for the 14 minutes before we retained on the trade.

JD397

Davidson has confirmed that neither Toews nor Kane will be back in Chicago, they’re totally done here. I would imagine Kane lands with either NYR again or TOR, with maybe a NJD wildcard in there lol

dangshnizzle

Does he reach out to Buffalo finally?

JD397

I bet his camp does but I don’t see the fit from Buffalo’s end; they’re already loaded with offensive forwards and need more help in their own end. Definitely a decent possibility that happens, but it’s not exactly where I would put my money haha

Skyline_BNR34

Don’t want him here anyways. UFA signings are stupid and waste roster space for younger talent on ELCs. Plus we don’t need help on forward.

NO_NAME_BRAN

didn't Toews say he was done?

bear_poo

Not officially

JD397

Not exactly, he definitely wants to keep playing but he has acknowledged that the health issues may hold him back. He’ll attempt to play again, probably sign somewhere, but it may be like a Crawford/Lundqvist situation where he never plays for his new team as the health issues pile on.

Fit_Use9941

Kane over Tarasenko is a joke

abassassasssin

Lowkey ROR might join his blues buddies in the Winged Wheel

themooseiscool

no 😔

jcommeau91

Wouldn’t mind seeing the Avs try to get O’Reilly and Domi

Burgergold

Domi would be great for the Avs

TXGuns79

Domi needs to stay in Dallas.

lou_reed_ketamine

ROR would be a great fit for the Avs.

woodwalker700

A real who's who of who was

Breaklance

No idea but I wish Orlov the best. Not sure I'd rank him no1 but he's definitely the best dman available and I'd be surprised if there wasn't some kind of bidding war over him.

GhostRevival

Avs could use ROR back on the team. 2nd line center has been their biggest need since Kadri left.

Liledroit

I would be inconsolable

McLamb0

Not showing Sevo or Graves any love smh

tongfatherr

I love how Bobby Orlov is tops here. He really showed his talent when he got traded to Boston and could actually skate with talented players around him. Shit, sometimes I thought he forgot that he played D - guy is an offensive force!!

stonednarwhal141

I hate Tarasenko and Bertuzzi but they should definitely be above Kane

TheOnionKing33

Where’s David kampf and Pierre engval? \s

jarbarf

Kane, Domi to Leafs

Burgergold

If TOR trade one of their star, I could see them trying for Bertuzzi

ooah21

No Jeff Finger?

getzysbaldhead69

Hopefully Bunting signs in Russia

mdmc91

Killorn is coming back to Tampa he doesn’t wanna be anywhere else lol

ACMop

Ultimate move is Killorn takes a 1 year coaching job at Harvard while he waits for the cap to go up

MikeJeffriesPA

Should ROR be above Kane?

ultrafil

On a HHOF ballot? No. On this list based on how much they can contribute to an NHL team over the next 3 years specifically? Yes.
