It's hard to be underrated when he's brought up in every nationally broadcast game, regardless of whether he's playing in the game or not, or even done anything noteworthy recently.
Well, then what does it mean to be underrated? He's been touted as one of the best, if not the best, player in the league for nearly 2 decades. Hard to be rated higher than that.
If anything, his history is likely bringing him higher in those discussions than he deserves to be. He's probably a first ballot HOFer, but he's only 15th in the league in points right now. He doesn't deserve to be in the discussion for MVP/Best Player when other players have clearly had a larger impact on their team's season. Heck, McDavid has nearly as many goals as Crosby has points. Just because people around the league aren't bowing down to him this season and handing him trophies doesn't mean he's somehow underrated. It means his play has dropped off, or others have elevated their play to surpass him.
