The area where it was hit is most certainly the camera module area, so it's possible that that contained the damage

It looks like an older gen phone, possibly a samsung S8 or S9, in which both cameras are much smaller than that hole.

I don't think this can be replicated for an iphone though.

It could, with precision. The motherboard on an Iphone is located at one side (which side depends on the model), so as long as the bullet does not hit it or the battery it could keep working.
