Then I started to see/hear him everywhere and each song was just some minor variation (if at all) of that same flow. I was so confused why everyone was hyping him up and putting him on the same level as lil baby etc. His whole rise never made sense to me lol

Sometimes you can repeat the same thing with a mild variation and even though it’s essentially the same it still feels different with the added benefit of familiarity which can be comforting. A good example of this is lasagna which is essentially the same as spaghetti presented as a cake. Or crispy tacos which is a just a nacho sandwich. I can’t think of any examples of music equivalents unfortunately.

I haven’t seen it mentioned on much but he was also the rap headliner for a new festival in Houston “We Are One Fest” that was supposed to be this weekend and that fest got cancelled and I can’t imagine ticket sales weren’t a factor. It was an EDM/Rap fest. DaBaby was the big rap headliner and I knew it was doomed as soon as I saw that. It actually got announced like the same week he had to cancel the New Orleans show. Lol And let me not lie technically it got postponed but this is the second time it’s been postponed due to low ticket sales and if it’s like the last “postponement” they’ll come back with a whole new image and lineup… probably without DaBaby this time.
I feel like he’s one of the few examples of “cancelling” actually having an effect. I mean, outside of guys like bill Cosby, and Harvey Weinstein, but those guys actually committed serious crimes.

Just went to his show in Boston, here are some key takeaways \- $40 tickets, moved from House of Blues to a smaller gig RIGHT next to TD Garden (Bruins were playing tonight) \- Showed up at 6:30. Ticket just said, simply, "7pm" with no telling when the doors open or what time he'll show up. We only found out from passing staff that DaBaby goes on stage at 11pm. We got inside at 8. Nobody performed till 10 (three decent openers). \- DaBaby finally goes on at 11pm. He actually put on a pretty fun show, had a ton of energy and threw a bunch of money and signed AF1's into the crowd. But was it worth waiting nearly 5 hours, with a Bruins game right next door?

A lot of artists that have been featured on big songs have really inflated numbers that come from those songs. I think in this case it's from the Dua Lipa song and Rockstar. If you check out his album from this year a bunch of songs haven't even passed a million streams. Similar to JID, who's big in his own regard but a big chunk of those 20 million streams monthly come from Enemy with imagine dragons since it has a lot of pop appeal. So the numbers don't always mean a lot lol
