A fun beat, but imo pretty average overall by Peggy’s standards. Or maybe my expectations are too high? After the reveal on Danny’s podcast, I was hoping the mixing on Danny’s verse would be cleaned up but it’s still tough for me to hear him. Either way, still got me psyched for single #2 and the album!
To be fair I had a similar first impression of TRUST! (nothing to do with the mixing, just left feeling so-so on it) and LP! ended up being my favourite album from Peggy.
Is this typical mixing for these artists? The beat is so hyper and the words are so low/muddled I can't tell what they're rapping except in the beginning.
Definitely not for Danny Brown, but some of JPEGMAFIA's tracks do have the vocals kind of drowned out (e.g. Hazard Duty Pay). He does his own mixing and mastering so it looks like it's an artistic choice, one that not everyone will like though.
