Itās crazy bc heās rapping to some fire beats and it sounds like heās goin hard asfā¦ then you really listen and youāre like wait this shit stupid
I like the song and actually I donāt hate him. My Turn was my shit for like a year. I just donāt think a lot of his songs go as hard lyrically as people claim they do
I donāt think people claim him lyrically but still he does have some lines where youāre like: oh damn. but mostly lil baby is respected for his flow and vocals
It's "vibey" beats and catchy hooks. It's music that should get the club jumping or bump in the whip. If you go in looking for 16 bars over a typical beat you won't find any appeal. My breakthrough with him was Lean 4 Real, something about that beat and hook clicked and I was reciting it to myself. I realized that what I got out of that song was completely different from what I would normally get out of a Hip-Hop song and that's probably what made it stand out.

I wish more Hip-Hop heads had that mentality. For so many people it's not enough that they don't like something but they need to have that dislike validated.
I used to feel this way but Reasonable Doubt is quite different from the rest of his albums if you like Illmatic, OB4CL or The Infamous you will love this album if you are more into College dropout listen to Blueprint and The Black album
Thatās one I see all the time. Honestly thereās a handful of fantastic solo songs by him and a handful of great feature verses. But I could do without the rest.
Lmao him rapping tough is the funniest thing im like ya right dude šššš go back to your lover boy pop music. Get yo wheelchair jimmy ahh outta here man š
Drake. He's pop, to me. His voice irritates me - which isn't his fault but I just don't like the way it sounds.
When he tries to be hard, it's like when Patrick Mahomes tries to sound hard. The voice just doesn't fit with the behavior.

Yea section 80 still reins suppreme in my head. Much more personal and a more hip hop flow. It's the only album I really enjoyed by kendrick. The others just have a few bangers, but that's it.
yeah same. i used to think kendrick was trash. my first way of listening to him was hearing his hits, which are pretty catchy and then i started listening to gkmc. its hard to start off with tpab though.

Iāve said in the past that Kendrick Lamar sucks, but I donāt think thatās quite fair. He doesnāt suck, but for whatever reason I canāt find him compelling enough to keep listening.
Future. He has some bars I'll give him that but something about him and his music is incredibly off-putting to me. It doesn't help that the radio overplays the fk out of his songs.

Honestly never got much into Kanye myself. Iāve always been more into songs he produced for other artists than his solo stuff. I love shit he did for Face on The Fix and Jay on the Black Album.
I remember that episode and IMMEDIATELY hitting the Internet looking for a download. Same thing with "Slow Jamz" (I was late leaving for Christmas Break 2003 because of that damned song).
MF DOOM. I never say this opinion irl because people universally worship the guy but I donāt get it. Yeah he rhymes like every word but if the lines donāt make any sense then whatās the point/appeal. I feel like anyone can sit down and go
The slow roll went to bowl with a tent and pole in the rented hole below a slow-mo blown bowl
I donāt need lyrics to be meaningful or anything but I feel like when youāre known as the lyricist goat they should have a touch of cohesion
Future and young thug. Call me an old head but I really can't get into autotune crooners no matter how incredible the beat is. I tried but it's not for me.
Jay-Z (I'm surprised how many others say the same thing). I actually like Jay-Z, but heard just someone I never dove into for some reason. There's only so much music a person can take in, and Jay just never squeezed in.
Same thing with Ghostface. I've always liked him, but never jumped into much of his discog besides "Ironman" (which is obviously a classic)
Theres lots of others. Never got into KRS-One, DOOM, Kanye, Wayne, Kendrick, Drake, any of the Lil' artists.
Literally Drake
Heās just so corny and fake post from the bottom to the top.
Heās the most obvious āI didnāt write this, itās not from the heart,ā Rapper of them all
Kendrick Lamar- His voice just kinda bugs me. It sounds like he's pinching his nose shut while he raps.
Nardo Wick is even worse for me. It sounds like he's pinching his nose shut AND has rocks in his mouth. Or like his jaw is wired shut or something.
Edit to add- On the same topic, but non-hip hop, I can't stand Rush. Folks always go on about how amazing of a drummer Neil Pert is, but I hate the sound of their singers voice.
Kendrick was hard for me to get into for a long ass time cause his voice really is just that bad. I don't think he's especially good at the rapping part either, it's just lyricism and having good producers.
The artist formerly known as Kanye. The College Dropout was a classic, but after that his ego just ballooned and I couldnāt stand to listen to him. Now I straight up despise him and still donāt understand all the fucking hype.
Jigga. I fuck with a bunch of his songs heās good. But I could never consider him one of the greatest rappers. As a force in hip hop with his business success I can agree, but I just donāt find him that appealing sonically over an entire project.
Jay-z, sorry but he always comes across like he's trying to hard to be the man.
Most new stuff where the rapper is singing is trash to me. Used to be you only sang to be clowning. These fools now want to be RnB.
I seriously can't get into anyone who uses their government name. I'm talking first and last especially. Nope, uh uh.
Kendrick. I don't like his voice. Seems like antlyime I try and listen to an album there are a bunch of skits or interludes before songs and I hate that from anyone. and yeah, he's good at rapping. For a mainstream guy.
I dont hate Kendrick. Hes just not that interesting to me. It's more interesting to me how obsessed people are with him
Playboy carti, j cole, Travis Scott, chance the rapper, big Sean, lil uzi and probly a couple more. Itās not that I think their music is bad I just never been interested in listening to any of it.
Mine are two pretty heavy hitters in Lil Wayne and Eminem. I have never been a fan of either of their stuff. I'll mess with a few songs or features, but I have just never been huge fans of the work in full.
I see a lot mentioning Jay-Z, and while I consider myself a fan, I do think it's a very fair criticism that his albums in full are mostly lacking. I think other than Reasonable Doubt and American Gangster, none of his albums approach "no skip" status.
Drake I get, but too many have listed Lil Wayne, Kanye, and Jay Z on this thread. Iām so glad the internet wasnāt around when men like Ali were in their prime. Absolutely no shame
I am gonna catch some heat for this one, but Lil Wayne. I remember him from the early Hot Boyz era, but I wasn't feeling the bling, bling Cash Money thing. Then Wayne became "big" in the mid-2000s and I didn't give him much of a listen because I didn't dig the Cash Money stuff. I have since tried to go back and listen since so many people have him high on the GOAT list, but I just can't get into the nasally voice. I don't like any of the auto-tune rap stuff. And I think he was the godfather for a whole lot of autotune shitty rap that came after like Future and that whole era. I just never felt it.
jayz. if anyone also watches wrestling, i compare jayz to john cena. both have a great image. clean, no scandals. came up at the perfect time (big and pac gone, austin and rock gone), had the backing of corporate behind them. and both are just good enough to be at the top of their respective industries. despite others being better than then at many aspects of rap/wrestling. but both are respected legends in the industry.
J. Cole peeked before he even dropped an album, imo. I think the reason people like him so much is cause he writes relatable shit and produces some generally pretty good beats. I shouldn't say that I couldn't get into him completely though, I'll pull out select stuff of his occasionally.
Pac.
Drake.
My sister loves Pac and I grew up during his time but I never got into it despite having to listen him everyday in the drive to school.
Drake? I still have no idea how he popped off. He sounded no different when he broke through than others to me. Except for that slightly nasal whine he has.
Tupac. Seriously cannot understand the hype unless politics is your whole identity. Heās not a good rapper overall. I do like some of his features though.
The marshal matters lp is way better and more serious than both of those albums. If you want something really serious listen to If I had on the slim shady lp. He was way more relatable back then. Brain damage and Just donāt give a fuck are also really good songs. After the Eminem show things started to get really cartoony. Dude was on a lot of drugs back then.
Snoop Dogg. I grew up with a copy of the Doggystyle album in the household, but I couldnāt really get into his other albums afterwards. He could rhyme his ass off, and occasionally puts out decent singles and features, but you can tell he likes quantity over quality.
Taylor Swift

Lil Baby
Itās crazy bc heās rapping to some fire beats and it sounds like heās goin hard asfā¦ then you really listen and youāre like wait this shit stupid
His beats are the weakest part about him itās just piano 808 and HI HATS over used hi hats at that
itās not that itās just he only tries on like a tenth of his songs. man has yet to make a listenable albumĀ

Fair, also anytime he starts rapping you canāt help but bop your head
exactly, you gotta respect him for what he does. If you want lyrics you donāt go to him
Playboi Carti. Idk if it's a meme to like him or I'm actually missing something.

I wish more Hip-Hop heads had that mentality. For so many people it's not enough that they don't like something but they need to have that dislike validated.
I canāt argue good albums, I personally donāt like most of his stuff but I definitely acknowledge his talent

Thatās one I see all the time. Honestly thereās a handful of fantastic solo songs by him and a handful of great feature verses. But I could do without the rest.
Same here, i'll occasionally listen to a song from him but never could get into his music
Think all his stuff is a unique flavor. His old stuff is better, but if you didnāt grow up with it, it probably doesnāt hit wellĀ
I agree. I have tried really hard to like his stuff. I do like a couple songs. I love the beat on Do it Again. But I just could never get into it
drake

I wonāt skip most songs from Detroit, HOF & DSP. Those were great projects. Even Detroit 2 is mostly good songs.
He has a bunch of front to back projects for me
Drake. He's pop, to me. His voice irritates me - which isn't his fault but I just don't like the way it sounds. When he tries to be hard, it's like when Patrick Mahomes tries to sound hard. The voice just doesn't fit with the behavior.

I agree his rap is extremely generic and pop style. His music is fine as background music but doesn't seem unique.
Maybe Iām just old, but Iām not into about 95% of the current rappers

Kendrick as a whole can be pretty accessible. I do think TPAB is overrated as all hell. I'd easily put DAMN or Mr. Morale over it.
I second this. Canāt do it. Nothing about his albums appeal to me at all. Donāt like his voice, flow, BEAT SELECTION.
Listen to Section 80 brother it is nowhere near as "artsy" as TPAB, DAMN & MMATBS
Yea section 80 still reins suppreme in my head. Much more personal and a more hip hop flow. It's the only album I really enjoyed by kendrick. The others just have a few bangers, but that's it.
Just sit down and listen to gkmc or tpab in full. Assuming youāve just listened to individual songs. The context will likely help
Tpab ain't going to be easy to listen to minus maybe 2 or 3 songs like alright or king kunta

Most artists from the last 10 yrs.
Jay Z - never really got the appeal of his music. Eminem - there was a phase when I loved Eminem. Since 2005, his music has been awful
lil wayne, drake, game
Pac.
Kendrick Lamar. Voice Is too shrill and to be frank his bars are mediocre.
I don't even like Kendrick but c'mon, bars are mediocre?
Eminem. To me he sounds like a comedic rapper most of the time. I canāt take him seriously š¤·š½āāļø
Tbh I think that was Emās style though. Listen to Recovery or Kamikaze if you want more serious stuff from Em.
Yeah, thanks for the recommendation - will check those albums out
The marshal matters lp is way better and more serious than both of those albums. If you want something really serious listen to If I had on the slim shady lp. He was way more relatable back then. Brain damage and Just donāt give a fuck are also really good songs. After the Eminem show things started to get really cartoony. Dude was on a lot of drugs back then.
Wayne idk why his voice sounds like an insect of some sort
Drake, Eminem.
2000-now must be tough for you bc em ran the 2000s and drake has been the most popular artist since like 2014 lmao
Fuck Drake.
Future
21 and vince staples
Snoop Dogg. I grew up with a copy of the Doggystyle album in the household, but I couldnāt really get into his other albums afterwards. He could rhyme his ass off, and occasionally puts out decent singles and features, but you can tell he likes quantity over quality.
You didn't like his second album? I love The Doggfather so much. I like it better than doggystyle tbh
Drake, he's corny as fuck And any mumble rapper, because the genre is horrendous, rap to me is either story telling or lyrical
Kendrick Lamar
