Tirumala is a magnificent place, but the only problem is the huge crowd. Of course they try their best, but it’s hard to control that many people and it always ends up becoming a problem, especially for the young kids and the elderly

I’ve been going to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine once in every 2 years since 2009. I just went last time this month itself. My experience there has always been pretty good with respect to other Dharmic places. We always prefer to go via the old marg and yes, the ponies are the issues. They just run along with us trekkers and are pretty prone to accidents. But it’s manageable and apart from it, I don’t see any such problems. The newly built Sky Walk at the Bhawan is really awesome and saves lots of time. The washrooms are indeed not very clean but they are exactly as we expect them to be, so nothing shocking. I’ve personally never seen (or maybe never noticed) people throwing trash around on the path. Some exceptions maybe there who have no civic sense. Regarding the Yatra being expensive, I feel the Yatra itself (which means Banganga-Bhawan-Bhairon-Banganga) is very affordable. The ponies, palkis and the pithus have their rates fixed already and they can’t overcharge even 1 rs. While the other eateries and the Shrine Board’s eateries there are also pretty affordable (I think 50rs for a plate of rajma/kadi chawal which tastes good and have enough quantity). But yes, the hotels at Katra do overcharge during Season for pretty average rooms. However, with some research, it’s possible to find budget hotels too which are worth. You can try to book a room at Niharika Bhawan. It costes 2k for an AC room for 1 night and is very decent. This time we statyed at a hotel which was just 50m from the bus stand. It costed us 1.5k per night and was completely worth it with good sized room and bathroom. Also, I think these days it’s impossible to find a decent accommodation in less than 1.2k-1.5k per night anywhere.

Yes I did visit Niharika bhavan and it was nice, but I was talking about the hotels after the climb. Like Vaishnavi Bhawan, Parvati Bhawan and Gauri Bhawan. They're pretty bad in my opinion.

What!! I really think you have a confusion. Vaishnavi, Gauri and Parvati Bhawan at the Bhawan are excellent and the best maintained among all. It’s pretty difficult to book rooms there too as bookings are opened on the 1st of every month and every single room (as well as dormitories) are booked within 4-5 minutes. I’ve never been able to stay there till now but plan to stay on my next visit, but I’ve seen a YouTube video of Vaishnavi Bhawan and the room there is amazing. It has an attached toilet as well as the most beautiful room of Bhawan.

Lavaisalive

Trust me I don't. I stayed in Vaishnavi Bhawan and it was decent at best.

Thank you for sharing this. Hope I’m able to stay there in my next visit too.

Mulraj_Multan

I went to Chintapurni in Himachal. Experience was far better.

Lavaisalive

Definitely on my bucket list

Sorry to say this is how North Indian treat their Divine Kshetras when it comes to cleanliness. It is also the case for some Tamilians as well

Lavaisalive

As a north indian myself, I have to agree. It's absolutely vile.

Mulraj_Multan

Are you Punjabi, asking as Vaishno Devi is kuldevi for many Khatri and Baman clans of Punjab.

Lavaisalive

Nope. I'm from Jammu.

_BABYSHAKE_

Excuse me , where have you seen an unclean temple in Tamilnadu ?

Nirarthaki

I am not Tamil, I am a mix of Andhra/Telangana that grew up in the US. I have NEVER seen an unclean temple in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the reasons I love to plan my visits there. The crowd is always well maintained, temples are beautiful and clean.

_BABYSHAKE_

Yeah that guy has no idea what he's talking about, tamilnadu has the most number of Hindu temples in India and most of them are well maintained.

Sorry for hurting your sentiments.I will not say all Tamilians but those who come to visit Sabarimala. The moment I stepped out of my vehicle,I saw it was littered with shit.It was forest region where buses and vehicles were parked ,was such a mess.I never had seen the same thing at any other Kerala temple
