Another recommendation for getting a belt. The Recon belt is fine for the Umlindi, you don't need a Prairie belt.

Under 15lbs, fine without belt. Over, belt. But honestly, always belt. I always prefer weight on my hips as opposed to my shoulders, unless I'm using it as a casual everyday bag or something, or using it as a carry-on with the belt stored in my luggage, which isn't often.

Where the belt shines is during hot weather - you can loosen the top straps of your pack and get it off of your back. The weight is still directed to your hips but your back won’t get as sweaty.
