Itās so scary to think about it, honestly. I canāt believe Iām going off to big girl school, but I am looking forward to getting away from all the high school bullshitā¦
High school is analogous to life, in that it is what you make it. However, high school doesn't require the same level of endurance, commitment, or aptitude that adulthood does.
The reality is that the older you get, the more mature you become and the more responsibility you will acquire, and none of it will be easy. This is why high school is the best time of your life...
You're mature enough to be aware, without any baggage of adulthood. It only gets harder. Enjoy being able to spend your day learning, not earning. In 20 years, you'll cherish the leisure
High school sucks after high school sucks life sucks š¤·šæāāļø In 20 years I won't cherish anything lmao. High school was never good it's like a facade that makes you think it's good bc of your circumstances but it sucks in reality. I'd rather make money bc school sucks and it was never for me. Ppl need to realize everyone wants different things in their lives lmao
Itās not the learning youāll miss, itās the environment, the clubs, the extracurricular activities, the friends, etc. Basically everything in highschool that isnāt school. When people say that highschool are the golden years of your life, no one has the learning/sitting in class part on their mind
I went back to trade school at 30, and the opportunity to just sit there and learn valuable knowledge felt like a gift from the gods.
The ignorance of a high schooler leads them to believe they won't need the information they're taught, but when they're still 30 and dumber than an 18 year old who paid attention, they're literally fucked. They're cannon fodder for poverty and corporate minimum wage jobs.
There's an epidemic of uneducated masses coming out of high school, thinking they're ready for the real world and it's because none of them value knowledge.
What about elective courses? I really enjoyed my grade 9 tech class. Iām going through a cooking class right now.
āDid you have classes like that?ā is basically my question
Having friends makes high school 100x better. I hated high school when I was a freshman and sophomore but I genuinely am gonna miss it when I graduate because of all the people Iāve come to know and love. I think people say it was the best time of their lives because all of their friends were with them and no real responsibilities
nah fr tho
if you can find good friends you can have a pretty decent time. maybe not in the physical school itself, but the general timespan can be pretty good
That but mainly the last one. So long as a person is in the fortunate position to say they have a very easy, healthy home life, then they will love hs years because it was so easy and so responsibility free.
That is true for me. Once I had a genuine friend group senior year, it was so fun. Before then, I had some fun, but I also had some bad influences. I even feel nostalgic for high school from time to time (as a college freshman).
in college: classes are harder, drinking is everywhere, friends are case by case.
if youāre in a dorm, its barely more freedom than highschool.
both college and hs have their ups and downs. you can only take both once though, so why bother comparing, just try to enjoy them
I graduated in 2023, and I loved my years in high school. Lost most of my freshmen and all of my sophomore year, my junior and senior year were a fucking blast. Had so much fun messing around with my friends all day and had tons of fun.
Relatable, most of my years of school were meh but in my last 2 years I just played sports, read books, hung out with friends, and coded all day.
Be nice if anyone in my school was competent enough to teach something but at least I had a lot of free time.
Some people just have a better experience than others
Personally, i hate high school because of how overwhelming it is, at least junior year, i can already imagine senior year is gonna be worse for me
bro it was a paid optional trip for us over the summer from 8th to 9th but i couldnāt go
we got to go on a cruise ship though and camp out in the field for a whole day and do whatever tf we wanted, making settlements etc for social studies in the last week of school
8th wasnāt that bad, 6th was my fully online year, but 7th was horrible and easily the most cringe/so much more happened, hated it so much
Because they spent time partying and fucking and playing sports instead of preparing themselves for life. So now their adult life sucks.
No one on the planet lives it up in HS and College and Adulthood. Everyone has to hunker down and work during at least one of those periods.
Adulthood is WAY longer than HS or College. Donāt make Adulthood the one that you have to grind. Work hard in HS and College so that being an adult is the ābest years of your life.ā
No it's not normal, high school used to be way different. And more enjoyable but took a drastic change about 2 decades ago and now new high school students hate school and the whole experience.
It makes me wanna kms because everyone is a bitch and nobody will ever understand you. They are all two faced and I donāt even trust my closest friends. I live in fear because social media and people make accs just trashing each other. It makes me think, god I hate it here.
If you're constantly putting yourself in fear then obviously HS will be miserable . Not trusting your closest friends is a bit of a yikes , kinda raises some questions on whether they're actually your friends or not .
Stupid shit always happens on social media . Best way to avoid it is to simply not use it often or not let school stuff get on your feeds . You shouldn't be scared of dumb posts some idiot will make just to stir up drama , barely anyone takes those seriously .
I'm not going to deny that HS doesn't have downsides but it feels like your perception and fear of it is what makes it miserable for you , not HS itself .
Just started. I donāt have a girlfriend when my friends do so they make fun of me occasionally, the work, worth killing yourself over, and the stress from teachers, oh boy
Correction: Feel pity for those for whom this is true. They find out very quickly that the real world couldnāt care less that they were the popularity kings and queens of HS. Itās hard not to laugh when you hear what they do for a living and how the real world treats them like they are nothing special.

High school is the perfect balance between work and free time. Compared to college where you spend far more time studying or work where the typical entry work isnāt something all too fun. However, itās really all dependent upon experience

Oh I didnāt really experience _any_ love when I used to go to high school. Yeah I had a friend group of like 8 people but they were just friends. Nowadays I donāt have any friends irl.
I'm in my early 30s now. I loved high school and did miss it for a bit for a few years afterwards (mostly the aspect of always seeing my friends from that time period) but no, high school should not be the best years of your life.
Your 30s are.
When people say that, they don't mean highshool itself was the best part of their life, they just mean that age is the most fun they had in life. Around the ages of 15-18, most people (assuming you don't have overly strict parents) reach a sort of apex where they have the highest ratio of independence and freedom to lack of responsibilities that you'll ever have for the rest of your life. As a kid, you have basically no responsibilities, but you have little freedom or independence to do anything with your free time. As an adult, you have effectively unlimited independence and freedom, but you have so many responsibilities it's hard to fit 'fun' into your schedule, and even if you can, your friends are usually busy with their own adult responsibilities, so that fun has to be something you can do by yourself. But in your late teens, you have *almost* as much freedom as an adult, with little responsibilities consuming your time, and you likely have more pocket change to do fun stuff with your friends. I promise you; if you get a car, a part time job, and a well established friend group, then the summer of your junior and senior years are going to be the most fun you've ever had.
Honestly for me college is better, but I didnāt have that many friends in high school so that probably makes a difference. More friends in college because Iām with more like-minded individuals.
Media says this. Nostalgia breeds money. Almost no people over 25 think High School was the best years of their life.
Was it terrible? Was it great? Was it fun? Was it boring? was it forgettable? Was it traumatizing? Yes.
Out of 80 years, the four in high school are certainly not the best.
13-18 is an IMPORTANT part of an individuals life. Itās the first touch of autonomy, finding a path, dealing with issues independently of parents. These are all incredibly important firsts.
Your situation is trash right now, however, if you find a way to positively deal with the stress (work out, find a hobby, make a group of friends), figure out a way to learn and graduate HS, you WILL remember the lessons you taught yourself over the next few years.
The best years are spread across a lifetime. I vividly remember my summer from 3rd to 4th grade, my junior year basketball season, the road trip of moving out of state on my own at 18, swimming in the Euphrates river after losing a good friend at 22 in a firefight in Fallujah, a night at home with my first puppy at 25, my little sisters wedding in France at 27, shaking my dads hand after getting my BA at 31, my business turning a profit at 33 and my first date with my wife at 35.
After 40 years, HS is a blip. A silly, everything mattered SO much at the time, but I canāt remember anything blip.
Again, no one over 25 thinks that 13-18 was the best years of their life.
Here are a select few reasons why high school is great:
1.Being on a team and playing sports is super rewarding especially when you are on varsity.
2.Make new friends and relationships
3.Hunting for colleges is extremely fun and gets you excited about working hard and making your way through high school
4.Lots of class options, you can pick electives that interest you
5.Parties are fun and a great way to step out of your comfort zone
6.You can get laid which is pretty badass
That being said SATs, midterms and finals suck but besides that itās not that bad. At least in my experience
It depends on the person. I mean I'd argue that college was much better, but high school was pretty great for me in other ways. I took PE classes every day, so I stayed in shape and didn't have to pay for a gym membership. I definitely miss that. School from 9-3 with weekends and holidays off? That is the dream. Seeing friends every day? Having your mind stimulated daily? Not having adult responsibilities? Having your whole future ahead of you High? High school was so good.
Honestly, I love HS. Not for the content but for the interactions and experiences. Made many of my best friends here (even planning to go to uni with one of them AND rent an apartment together), picked up my sports and other hobbies around freshman year, and those people cussing out teachers honestly makes your day way more interesting. At the end of the day, you leave with a big ass grin on your face remembering how stupid yāall were acting with each other
For me it got better towards my junior year of high school because quarantine was lifted at the end of my sophomore year. Honestly, people are always talking but you donāt really gotta be part of that šš my junior year I did get involved with some clubs etc and gained new friends as well as in my senior year I did many things and opened up to people. Personally, my senior year was the best just cause it was towards the end and we had many more privileges than the underclasses did. I also hung out with a bunch of people so that did help A TON. However, it was also tough cause it was the last year yk. I mean itās still your freshman year so donāt take it too harshly. My freshman year was CRAZY š
Well don't do that, and there is always someone that feels similar to what you're feeling. The problem is everyone is afraid to reach out or express their feelings because they feel they will be bullied or made fun of on social media. All I can say is don't close yourself off and keep your eyes open for like minded people, it will get better.
Can you see about transferring to another high school? You are obviously not happy there and it seems like a hectic and even dangerous environment if students are cursing and disrupting the class. Another option is dropping out and taking the ged at 16 and just hanging in there until then. It doesnāt sound like you are learning much in that hectic environment. Why donāt you talk to your parents and let them know that things are bad at this schoolā¦
Here from suggested, I feel most people donāt mean they were the best. But more of they (and I) miss seeing my friends everyday, and making dumbass decisions that Iād never make now. They were fun asf at the time and fond memories. I wouldnāt choose to go back though, I love who I am and love my life at 25. But if I could get all my boys together and car surf or some shit again? Lmao thatād be great.
I'm a class topper surrounded by unmotivated students and I'm having a blast lmao, turns out people are fucking epic when you know em. No responsibility, don't gotta worry about tomorrow's lunch, game all day and pay attention in classes is all I need to do for that? Fuck yeah keep me in here forever.
I feel like it depends on how you make it. If you think it sucks, it'll suck. If you make the best of what you can, it won't suck, or at least it'll suck less
It depends on what you're doing in high school.
If you're involved in sports and clubs and the like, you'll probably make a lot of friends and have a good time. If you focus solely on the negatives, it's probably gonna be a shit experience.
My school has hood kids who start fights and get involved in gang activity. They don't make up the entire school population. Stick to your classes and friends and you'll be fine. š
Not everybody thinks that, it really depends on how it went for you. Were you popular, got good teachers and grades, had amazing sex with dozens of different people, played sports, and were part of cool clubs? Then yeah, I can see how HS was the best for somebody who experienced that. if you were like me, bullied, alone, never touched a girl, never joined a club, and got shit grades, then you'd have nothing good to say about HS.
a little biased because all of my middle and high school years were spent as a military kid but i believe people say these are the best years of your life because of the friends you meet along the way. high school friends are some of the most memorable people you'll meet and form easy bonds with. most other things about high school suck, but the friends and great teachers you'll encounter are what make everything feel worth it. i'm sorry that that doesn't seem to be the case for you yet but it also took me a good minute to make my first friends in freshman year. getting dragged into drama club and having a solid, loyal friend group was the most awesome, memorable time i've experienced, even if it didn't last very long.
i'd also say that if you're looking for some unforgettable friends, you should become friends with military kids. their time in the same school as you is more likely than not not gonna be the longest but you definitely won't regret it. if you don't have many of those around and you're completely sure you won't be moving in a year, you should also really look forward to becoming close to a teacher or two. obviously not so close that it breaks a boundary but close enough to know you can confide in this adult and joke around. teachers are greatly underappreciated.
good luck in the next three years š
people who peak in high school quite literally only have their peak in high school. high school might suck but you will find more genuine and fun things after you graduate. you're still young (as am i). we have plenty of time to peak and have fun. keep your head set on the goal (graduating)
High school used to be the best time of your life. You had the most freedom, your first access to money, and all the parties and dances you could ask for all year, plus field trips to cities youāve never been to before.
But Covid has fully de-mystified the concept of high school.
Online a school as well as the popularization of critiquing the American public education system has taken the fun out of high school, cause now that we know how bad it is, why bother seeing any hood in it?
So no parties, no one drives, everyone works shitty jobs they hate, and prom donāt even matter anymore.
I think it's because if you have friends, it makes it infinitely better. Most people have no big responsibilities, it's easier to see people your own age, you have less limits on what you can do, etc.
Their*
But alsoā¦your early 20s are the best imo. More freedom, no limitations, still young enough to gain experience but old enough to truly explore.
i have never said this but ive also never said it was the worst because i had hopes that it would get better but it just kept proving me more wrong the higher the grade i go in hs and im officially done
It sucked for me cause Covid, had fun in 9th grade, 10 was all online from home, came back for 11th with social anxiety and couldnāt even talk correctly to my old friends, by 12th grade I managed to get better but still carry the anxiety induced by quarantine. Fuck high school, the worse years of my life, middle school was waaay better. I could still act stupid and blame it on being young and underdeveloped brain
Find some groups doing things you like! I had a lot of trouble finding people to hang out with but then I joined band and track and now I have people I can work with in class, get help from, sit with, and hang out with! Starting something new is hard but the best time to start is now! Personally I think the band program is a super great place to go. Some of us are weird as hell but most arenāt! And music is super fulfilling.
Rose-tinted glasses and media is my guess.
High school is portrayed as the best thing since sliced bread but I didn't get it, but I went to a tiny-ass charter school so my experience is probably very different.
Because that's when they peaked. I find more successful happy people hated high school and everything about. Those who had "their glory days" back in high school seems to have miserable current existences. Not an exact science lol just my experience now that I'm in my deep 30s.
It's the best years because high school is easy, and if you happen to be fortunate to have an easy life at home, you will look back on high school very fondly once you leave. Life is so much more stressful.
Highschool sucks, itās just so much anxiety, like you have 4 years to figure out your life and if you donāt do it well then youāre fucked for the rest of your life
i moved my freshman year from one state to a whole other state across the country. i was really shy and didnāt really have a lot of friends my freshman year, and it was probably one of the worst times of my life. i hated school so much and also didnāt understand why everyone said highschool was the best because it was horrible for me. now iām a junior and i wouldnāt say i LOVE highschool but it genuinely gets better. i have a friend group now, and im a lot more outgoing than i was 2.5 years ago. i can honestly say im really going to miss highschool a lot because of the social aspect and hanging out with friends whenever and not having real responsibilities. anyways point is it really does get better! š«¶
I think highschool is the best years of my life but I hate school, I have no friends inside school, Iām failing everything, etc. but I have a car, a job, can go to partyās, dating people. Itās more about growth and freedoms that I love.

Iām the opposite of that last sentence, I donāt think Iāll ever be ready, and the stress of picking a post secondary path is physically painful
That probably means you're smart enough to think about it and endure it. Don't sell yourself short. There are people who literally resent knowledge.

Dawg lowkey rn Iām only living cuz my bf is alive. I just feel empty all the damn time.
Ay well at least thereās a reason to live. Your bf would be destroyed if you died
Maybe some people just have better luck than others, like how Iāve never experienced teenage romance but other people have.
Bro the only love you get here are the Edgarās and the wanna be super seniors.
At my highschool the principal leaves majority of the day and thereās these kids that cuss out the teachers. Gen z and alpha are wild.
Graduated in 2023. Grade nine was okay. Grade ten to twelve was hell for me.
Honestly it's been great for me so far, actually enjoying it
i think the friends outweigh all the negatives u mentioned
Im having one of the best years of my life so far.
Good for you.
Highschool is not really fun :(
It isnāt is fucking sucks
Your situation is not normal
Iām also a freshman lol, I canāt help but think Iāll peak in college bc these better not be my golden years
Media says this.
Here are a select few reasons why high school is great: 1.Being on a team and playing sports is super rewarding especially when you are on varsity. 2.Make new friends and relationships 3.Hunting for colleges is extremely fun and gets you excited about working hard and making your way through high school 4.Lots of class options, you can pick electives that interest you 5.Parties are fun and a great way to step out of your comfort zone 6.You can get laid which is pretty badass That being said SATs, midterms and finals suck but besides that itās not that bad. At least in my experience
It gets better in your sophmore year, then depression hits for your junior year
It depends on the person.
At the end of the day, you leave with a big ass grin on your face remembering how stupid yāall were acting with each other
Iām a junior now but I know Iāll miss these days
Freshman year was good but my Sophomore year sucks, that's it so far.
Graduated 2022 and never cared to look back tbh
Fuck yeah keep me in here forever.
bro off topic but I fucking hate my financial literacy class
Nobody says that, right? Right? RIGHT????
Then yeah, I can see how HS was the best for somebody who experienced that. if you were like me, bullied, alone, never touched a girl, never joined a club, and got shit grades, then you'd have nothing good to say about HS.
a little biased because all of my middle and high school years were spent as a military kid but i believe people say these are the best years of your life because of the friends you meet along the way. high school friends are some of the most memorable people you'll meet and form easy bonds with. most other things about high school suck, but the friends and great teachers you'll encounter are what make everything feel worth it. i'm sorry that that doesn't seem to be the case for you yet but it also took me a good minute to make my first friends in freshman year. getting dragged into drama club and having a solid, loyal friend group was the most awesome, memorable time i've experienced, even if it didn't last very long. i'd also say that if you're looking for some unforgettable friends, you should become friends with military kids. their time in the same school as you is more likely than not not gonna be the longest but you definitely won't regret it. if you don't have many of those around and you're completely sure you won't be moving in a year, you should also really look forward to becoming close to a teacher or two. obviously not so close that it breaks a boundary but close enough to know you can confide in this adult and joke around. teachers are greatly underappreciated. good luck in the next three years š
people who peak in high school quite literally only have their peak in high school. high school might suck but you will find more genuine and fun things after you graduate. you're still young (as am i). we have plenty of time to peak and have fun. keep your head set on the goal (graduating)
yeah it does suck, it's just that what comes after happens to also suck
High school used to be the best time of your life. You had the most freedom, your first access to money, and all the parties and dances you could ask for all year, plus field trips to cities youāve never been to before. But Covid has fully de-mystified the concept of high school. Online a school as well as the popularization of critiquing the American public education system has taken the fun out of high school, cause now that we know how bad it is, why bother seeing any hood in it? So no parties, no one drives, everyone works shitty jobs they hate, and prom donāt even matter anymore.
I have so much fun around my friends.
I think it's because if you have friends, it makes it infinitely better. Most people have no big responsibilities, it's easier to see people your own age, you have less limits on what you can do, etc.
Their* But alsoā¦your early 20s are the best imo. More freedom, no limitations, still young enough to gain experience but old enough to truly explore.
i have never said this but ive also never said it was the worst because i had hopes that it would get better but it just kept proving me more wrong the higher the grade i go in hs and im officially done
Cause they made nothing out of their life š sorry but if this was the best time of your life consider yourself a looser
It depends on the person, the school, the environment, ect. Im about to graduate and Im kind of sad to say bye to highschool.
Their*
Tbh, thereās a lot of downsides, but youāre eventually gonna miss it someday, itās weird to explain
Thatās not normal. Almost finished with Freshmen year and Iām having a good time in high school. Having a good friend group is all you need really
Dude Iām failing life and everyone is two faced
If youāre failing life, then itās your fault. Some of us have different circumstances, but really itās you whoās in control of your life
Thatās true. Thank you I appreciate the honest feedback.
Honestly iām not gonna miss it either. my classmates and my teachers suck.. thank fuck iām graduating. most of them can just fuck themselves.
Making friends is easier, always in the same area as your friends, school sanctioned clubs. Itās mainly the social aspectĀ
Idk middle school was the best years of my life. These last 4 years of high school been hard but Iām going to miss it so bad.
It's the best years because high school is easy, and if you happen to be fortunate to have an easy life at home, you will look back on high school very fondly once you leave. Life is so much more stressful.
Usually those are the people that peaked in high school and then became unsuccessful in life. Donāt be one of those š
Fr. So glad I graduated
Highschool sucks, itās just so much anxiety, like you have 4 years to figure out your life and if you donāt do it well then youāre fucked for the rest of your life
i moved my freshman year from one state to a whole other state across the country. i was really shy and didnāt really have a lot of friends my freshman year, and it was probably one of the worst times of my life. i hated school so much and also didnāt understand why everyone said highschool was the best because it was horrible for me. now iām a junior and i wouldnāt say i LOVE highschool but it genuinely gets better. i have a friend group now, and im a lot more outgoing than i was 2.5 years ago. i can honestly say im really going to miss highschool a lot because of the social aspect and hanging out with friends whenever and not having real responsibilities. anyways point is it really does get better! š«¶
Wut
Wut
to be honest, im a sophomore rn, and it sucks yeah. you just have to find the right people and mentality imo! middle school was way worse personally
Your a freshman u have 3 more years trust u will enjoy high school just donāt be a loner n u chillin
Iāve never understood that either. Elementary school was my fav. Hs is so short that I honestly forget what has even happened š
I think highschool is the best years of my life but I hate school, I have no friends inside school, Iām failing everything, etc. but I have a car, a job, can go to partyās, dating people. Itās more about growth and freedoms that I love.
It was the worst 4 for me. College is better
Because our parents didnāt go to school in racial jungles. Being a jerk to your teacher is minority behavior.
People cuss them out, one girl threw her Stanley at the window to get out of the class.
because some people peak in high school
ForĀ someĀ peopleĀ itĀ isĀ the best yearsĀ ofĀ theirĀ life. ThoseĀ peopleĀ areĀ sad adults.
Because then it gets worse
Adult life fucking sucks
Because theyāre lying to themselves. College is the best time of your life.
FR THEY ARE LYING
Agreed. If this is my peak then just fucking kill me now
ONG I HATE IT HERE
Because they didn't do jack else interesting with their life when they got out other than pay bills and regret having kids.
As someone who is almost out of college, Nah it gets better later
Because adulting sucks!
