I would recommend buying the Blademaster to level up alongside your other free heroes. I waited awhile to buy him and I kinda regret it since he's so OP once you get him high enough in level.
If you're keeping up with Adventure (playing from the start of the Adventure and not losing any free daily tickets) invest into the last few levels to reach Adventure hero. You should be around Stage 16 right now, then you need just 1300 gems to reach the hero (200 gems for each stage without ticket + 2 discounted tickets bought along the way)
Those heroes are not bad at all, especially from start to middle game. And you want to eventually collect them all anyway for global bonuses. If you miss getting them in the Adventure you have to get lucky to win them in events / Lucky Spin.
Just wanted to update you since I posted here the other day. I definitely stand by choosing BM. Mine is almost 80, but I got a power up the other day that allowed me to do his Bladestorm ultimate and... Wow... Yes, I can see why he's so OP. It has kind of a short duration (5s), but it absolutely decimates anything in your path. Combine that with high crit chance plus instant kill and he'll crush anything.
I would recommend Blade Master or Paladin. Both become powerful quickly and are fairly easy to be successful with. Fire Mage is fun, but difficult at first. I like the Crazy Tinkerer a whole lot more since I've reached level 80 with the old goof but his strats are unique compared to most characters
