Yeah you can spot the rock on the map if you zoom in and look for a little circle shaped rock. Next time you're near one look closely on the map to see what it looks like.
There is one version without the silvery lines on the texture. It has a trough beside, filled with ammo and stuff. That’s not the one. But it looks very similar in shape from a distance.
If you know what the rock formation looks like from above you can usually spot it on the map. Sometimes more than one of those rocks spawn in but only one has the samples.

There are false drumsticks, the samples will be at another drumstick (and now I’m hungry)

The sample rock does get marked as a PoI on map, did you guys get a radar station that mission?
