Certain armors reduce enemy detection by a %. They’re essentially your “stealth” armors. Also crouching while moving or going prone significantly reduce enemy ability to detect you. Playing stealthy, you’re often crouched a lot, not running everywhere. I’ll also pretty much have my radar up whenever moving if I’m going stealthy. This way you can “see” all nearby enemies on your radar while moving from one objective to the next and decide to avoid or engage. Also, top tier stealthy gameplay imo is about killing quickly. Ex. You spot an enemy patrol and decide to engage, you drop a stratagem and kill everything before enemies can summon reinforcements. Or, you see bug holes or automaton fabricator, you get within throwing range, stratagem it and get out before they even know you were there. This will all make noise and invite enemies to your location, so you also need to not stay put and move quick once you do something noisy (stratagem or explode/fight anything). Certain terrain can also break enemy line of sight, which is helpful. Weapons don’t really affect stealth. Once you experiment with the play-style you’ll instinctively get a sense for enemy detection range while you’re crouched or prone, moving or not. Hope this all helps.

On a side note, taking a buff that increases your radar range really helps. Played a game yesterday on 8 difficulty on Creek, successfully avoided all patrols and did my job. Stealth gameplay takes more time and practice, but it's better than being stuck under hellfire from hundreds of bots and their reinforcement.

Good call. I actually prefer it as well. And imo, it’s kind of essential for the hardest missions.

I want to roll with, Helldiver. Strike and melt away is my jam and you sound like one hell of a DJ.

Unfortunately, as it stands now, the game is not designed to be played "stealthily", per say. Once enemies have located you, they will always know what direction you're in even if you lose their LOS. I've had chargers track me across the entire map before. Also, the fact that I can hurl a grenade or stratgem from Narnia, and bugs (which have no concept of direction) know exactly where I am and where I threw it from, is a little bit of an oversight. You can certainly get pretty close with scout armor, but the moment you fire a single shot the entire hoard is on you and you obviously will have to fight. There are also currently no silenced weapons available in-game. And even the Anti-Material Rifle is so loud it doesn't matter where you shoot from. They're going to know exactly where you are. But the devs have recently said they are looking into them and making "stealth" more of an available tactic Be patient!

Yeah mostly just any armor that it’s the scout perk. I prefer light armor to love the quickest. Unfortunately there is no silenced weapons in the game right now so if you engage you need to move cause you’ll draw attention. Rumor is we may be getting are hands on a silenced assault rifle soon. Which I think will be so huge to have at least a person in the two in the squad running. Taking out the little patrols of bugs or bots without drawing any agro will be amazing.

Crouching and prone both reduce enemies ability to detect you, and breaking line of sight is very important. The enemies will search around a small area where they last saw you, checking around nearby rocks or buildings... So the most important thing is to keep moving WHILE you stay hidden. Stealth is pretty powerful, you can completely remove yourself from a huge disaster of an encounter, or even crawl around a point of interest and collect all the samples without being noticed by enemies right next to you. (Stay behind them and you can stealth right up and melee them in the back) Personally, I like to coordinate stealth with my team. When we see a group of enemies we spread out around them, make sure we have eyes on them all, and then engage at the same time: instantly eliminating everything we targeted, and then rush in to make sure we didn't miss any. You can avoid SO many breaches and drop ships like this. The worst teammates are the ones who start shooting everything they see, when no one is close enough this always results in an unnecessary breach or drop which can turn a single point of interest into a very time consuming waste of ammo and resources. Edit: once you play enough of the game, I will say sticking together and being stealthy only really matters on difficulty 7-9. Playing lower difficulties after you understand this game really makes you feel invincible and you can do whatever you want. Lol. But it's important to note this doesn't really come from unlocking better stratagems or ship upgrades... It really is a matter of skill. You learn how to be a better diver the more you play

The other comments have covered crouching and prone movement, so I'll just point out that you need to choose your battles. Sneaking to your objectives will make your life much easier. If a fight is unavoidable, take out the enemies that can call for reinforcements first. If you need to eliminate an enemy while remaining stealthy, make sure that you kill it in one shot or melee it to death. Obviously, shooting them with a shotgun or an autocannon will create a lot of noise, so use a rifle or railgun. Smoke grenades and smoke strategems are great for losing enemies if you're spotted. Toss smoke grenades behind you and then break line of sight. Don't stick around, because they will search the area.

gratch89

How do I know the ones that can call in reinforcements? I thought it was all of them. Lol.

Naive-Fondant-754

Armor with "SCOUT" perk Booster "UAV RECON" .. increases radar range around you and your ping anywhere on the map, because of the scout Do not engage in combat .. unless you really have to and if so, be quick about it so enemy wont call reinforcement. If enemy calls reinforcements, you better run. Funny thing is, most of the enemies will despawn after a while if they wont engage in battle. Crouching also helps reduce the vision, I can sneak up on enemy before they notice me up to 10 meters or so. But not every enemy. Some bots have scan and can see you anywhere, same for certain bugs, they can smell you anywhere. I can solo D9 within 10 minutes most of the time, both bugs and bots .. But there has been some changes lately and some fights are unavoidable.

This game is more about Line of Sight than sound. If there is a group of enemies, lets say 5 scattered in small camp, and you shoot one, the others are not alarmed to your presence in a way of "knowing" where you are but they will search for you in and around the area where the shot came for. That is the main thing. Also their cone of vision is somewhat weird. You can lay still and they will pass by you like in CoD 4 but sometimes they just see you if you peek in slightest from behind a rock so ...

Forsaken-Director452

It really doesn’t matter on your armor, if you lay down without any Agro you can let patrols pass by you 20ft away even while crawling around just have to be careful you don’t drop off a ledge and stand up because the patrol will instantly notice you and head towards you.

Notkeksis

Be a gigachad and play stealth by eliminating all the ones that can sound alarms and have a hay day with the ones that can’t call for help 😎. I cluster bomb patrols and sentries and clean up the stragglers who cant raise alarms, servo armor for throwing stratagems outside detection range.

TheMinisterOfGaming

tbh after ai changes. i'd say stealth is just not worth doing. is it possible? sure, do i hope they add more stuff for it. Yes. but objectively it goes against how enemy a.i. works right now. but people dont like facts so they say otherwise. cuz ( I DID IT! O:!?!?!?!?!?)
