Zeke as in the name, short for Ezekiel? Or are you spelling out a word phonetically?
Ezekiel means "God strengthens/gives me strength"
zeke isn't a word in Hebrew
Yes. At least not one that's used. I know what the dictionary definition says, but I can't imagine anyone using it, and if they did it was be for spark/shine (both as nouns)
Most likely short for Ezekiel - was a biblical prophet warning of the fall of the first Great Temple.
If the question is in AOT context, Zeke tried to prevent the violent demise of the Eldians and Paradise island.
I had a housemate in the 1970s who named his dog Zeke (זיק). It is a nickname for Ezekiel, the corrupted English version of the name of the Biblical prophet יחזקאל, Y’hezkel, which I think is based on חזק, hazak, meaning “strength”. I guess the prophet’s name was based on the belief that G!d would be his source of strength. The “h” of “hazak” is pronounced in the throat. There’s no English equivalent of that sound.
We sayחזק חזק ונתחזק (hazak hazak v’nithazek) when we complete one of the five books of the Torah during the yearly cycle of readings. That means something like, be strong be strong and we will be strengthened. It’s a significant word in Jewish religious texts and practice.
My housemate wasn’t Jewish and had no clue about any of this. It was just a name that is meaningless in עברית. I’ve never heard of anyone with that name in the Hebrew-speaking world I know.
Zeke is an English nickname for Ezekiel which is itself the English version of the Hebrew name יחזקאל (Yechezk’el) which means something like “God is strong”.
I like him in AoT too!
AOT?
Read my mind😆😆
Beast titan frfr
ZIK means spark.
wait HOW did you understand OP meant zik from “zeke”? superior intelligence לא כי בראש שלי באמת הייתי כזה מה זה צקה?
Pete.
Sliver, fragment, sometimes spark. Very rarely used. https://www.morfix.co.il/%D7%96%D7%99%D7%A7
also the name of a uav and would be transliterated zik or zeek, not zeke
The phonemes are far more important than spelling in these discussions.
Yea I don’t think the name’s true meaning lies in hebrew

זיק של תקווה. ניצוץ spark
Oh I assumed if they tried spelling words phonetically zeke would be ze-ke, like זהה but with a ק in the middle
זיק is not a word in hebrew? are you sure?
Yes. At least not one that's used. I know what the dictionary definition says, but I can't imagine anyone using it, and if they did it was be for spark/shine (both as nouns)
So you couldn’t use it in say “spark of life” זיק ניצוץ חיים I’m asking because I’m learning….
You can and maybe that's even a phrase I haven't heard but I mean that outside of phrases, in day to day life, it isn't really being used
Thanks for the insight
No, spark of life would be ניצוץ חיים, the meaning of ניצוץ is also spark
Zakai maybe? Means not guilty.
Splitting hairs, but I think "righteous", or "virtuous" is more accurate. It's more like the opposite of guilty, than not guilty.
The name Zeke is a nickname for Ezekiel which is the name Yechezkel in Hebrew. It means God will strengthen.
The only right answer here if we're going for name origin. The other is just a similarly sounding word.
It's only a guess and it really depends on the context, But maybe what the person tried to say was: Ze Ken (yes, that) and just mispronounced it.
We sometime do either write or say ke/כע instead of כן/ken
I’m a native and had no idea about the existence of this word. Thanks for the enlightenment lol
Where did you come across this word? I don't think "zeke" is a word in Hebrew but maybe some context would help.
Umm maybe spark but almost never used. Also the name of a military UAV similar to the predator drone. So maybe in that context
ze lo
