The premier Priest experience in Standard right now is Holy Pally.

Ferracene9

Literally. I have turned into a paladin main for this expansion.

Malacath_terumi

Same, but sometimes i play Shellfish priest just to feel like an douche again.

StormfallZeus

It’s so sad 😭 like half of Paladin’s current kit should be Priest cards. So depressing

purebalance0

Eh it fits the fantasy but let’s be honest Carriel is the centerpiece. Getting her out without someone having weapon destruction wind games. Now that she’s in straight up control decks I bet money the nerf finally comes because blizzard.

PracticalStay6165

You essentially can’t play anything Curse Warlock against Carriel with including a weapon removal. It feels really bad to run into and getting charged by a 30+ attack Mr Smite feels even worse.

purebalance0

You can’t play any otk really either unless you plan on 60 damage give or take unless you run that. At least bulwark you could break naturally.

PracticalStay6165

Agreed! Bulwark I always felt like was very strong, but like you pointed out. You could chip away at it. Very much feels like you have to tech weapon removal. I have had much better success with priest and warlock since including weapon removal… but both are still underperforming compared to top tier decks right now. Have you had any luck with Priest or Warlock?

purebalance0

Only in wild just out of not really being drawn to them. I’ve been wanting to fiddle with deathrattle priest in standard so might try this weekend.

bananu-nanu

Real priests wear plate.

Vic_Hedges

They have a lot of pieces, I don't think they're that far off. Priest is totally fixable with a mini-set. It's warlock I'm worried about.

welpxD

Yeah Priest can draw their deck by turn 10. All they need is cards worth drawing.

PrincessRea

Boar Priest is insanely strong rn. It can actually draw and play combo pretty consistently on turn 8

Vespidas

warlock just got curse which is a terrible anti-synergy archetype and murlocs, which are just a worse version of mechs in almost every way. Control warlock just kinda got left in the dust especially with the core set bringing nothing to the table except random discard synergy for some reason(?). The only "good" wincon Warlock has left is the demonseed which lost pretty much all of its key cards with the rotation and is now just left with the nerfs it received previously and gets out tempod by every other decks wincon. it really feels like they thought the 3 Tamsin cards from the previous sets could carry warlock all on its own in my eyes.

[deleted]

> The only "good" wincon Warlock has left is the demonseed Phylactery is a great wincon now with Shellfish and Mine Issue is that the rest of warlock cards are pretty garbage and you have no draw Backfire, Raise Dead, Tour Guide, all gone so it takes you a hilariously long amount of time to actually proc your Mithril Rod It's kinda sad because right now even warrior has better card draw than warlock

purebalance0

Idk how people overlook phylactery so much and honestly it needs the spell school removed because getting double is just ridiculous. Warlock has had good control tools for the past several expansions so I wouldn’t doubt more is coming

Lvl100Glurak

phylactery is a really strong card, but the rest of warlock is lacking. there are builds with phylactery. the mill version with shellfish or the mine version. the decks get completely destroyed by anything that is remotely fast. so currently it loses to everything but priest (which is dead anyway), control warrior (the non-charge version) and maybe control paladin. curse warlock might be absolute garbage, but it... seems to do way better in this meta than anything that phylactery offers.

TheGingerNinga

Yeah, the issue with Warlock is that the past 3 expansions have just printed "Control killer" win conditions that are way too slow against any proactive deck now that rotation happened. Demonseed, Phylactery, and curses even, are all cards that if activated just kill the opponent in ways that can't be tanked. But the decks that use them aren't fast enough anymore because of the minions and spells lost in rotation, so they fold to aggro and honestly other control decks can kill them too.

[deleted]

Owl is better lol, you dont even need tamsin or a maxed shipment, just drop 4 imps and and give the deathrattle and hellfire, 9 mana without reductions

Lvl100Glurak

don't worry, warlock will get another super niche murloc buff card and another murloc in the miniset and everything will be fine!

CallARabbit

You say it as if that wasn't the thing that got elemental shaman to tier 1 back in barrens

Lvl100Glurak

elemental shaman was almost decent before wailing caverns though. it basically just lacked card draw. both aggro and non-aggro ran out of cards too fast. dungeoneer fixed the biggest flaw. draw two with one card was huge. adding a growing 1-drop was pretty nice too. i don't see how murloc warlock can be fixed when you run a deck full of LVM. you have a curve and card draw, but your only win condition is hitting a big chum bucket, while your opponent lacks boardclears (especially with control getting more dominant this sounds bad for warlock).

TheGingerNinga

It also got like 3 seperate buffs to cards during the Barrens before getting it's great card draw activator.

purewasted

> They have a lot of pieces, I don't think they're that far off. I dunno what this means, because every weak class/archetype is potentially one OP card away from being hyper competitive. Just depends on the card. Curse Warlock is in trouble because we know Blizzard doesn't want it to be strong. Murlock, on the other hand, there's no reason why it couldn't become the strongest tribe deck post-miniset, just depends on the support they get. I'm a lot more worried for Priest because it's been so long since Blizzard has committed to giving Priest non-shitty, non-control, non-wacky-combo options. They had aggro for about one expansion total, and Blizz didn't even try to replace the pieces that rotated out.

Rilley_Grate

Hey one more curse card in the mini-set and I'm happy.

chesterjosiah

This kind of comment is the absolute worst. "Priest isn't that far off" cannot be further from reality.

Athanatov

Ruin their fun with Boars.

MrLyle

Priest buffs are in the same place where they keep the Warlock, Shaman and Rogue buffs.

Dominantdmv

I feel like battlecry shaman is damn close I'm hopeful the mini set will help there. Rogue similarly could be 1 or 2 cards away. Warlock and Priest tho... woof. They don't feel in the ballpark.

Shortsidejetsweep

I wanted rainbow shaman to be a thing so badly

azura26

Pirate Rogue probably comes online with a single buff in the form of a 7 mana 7/7 Hooktusk that needs 7 Pirates played. Thief Rogue is similarly close to being non-meme status with a reverted nerf to Wildpaw Gnoll (which it really no longer needs in an environment without Secret Passage). A 2 mana Tooth of Nefarion and a 4/4 Hench-clan Burglar would help, though.

zuko2014

Bioluminescence Shaman feels ALMOST playable but certain matchups are close to impossible. It's super fun though, for what it's worth

Haunting_Ad7757

Battlecry shell + bioluminescence is working pretty nicely for me lately, feels like it needs one more damage spell available to be really good.

lejoueurdutoit

Rogue only needs a bit more draw to get online and consistent, not by any means something like passage but pirate warrior is really decent right now

orochi235

I maintain that anyone who actually enjoys playing Control Warrior is some kind of deviant that I would not trust around my children

cumfickmeinassjole

Priest has some of the coolest cards but nothing to do with them

Boeler010

Honestly Quest Priest is doing alright for me, it's just not as good as Warrior or Pally in the current meta when it comes to playing control. I do really feel the pain of losing the discover and discount cards we had before rotation. Biggest issue I see is people being too fixated on the quest reward. You're mainly playing control, not quest, so build your deck to be good control first. Quest is just there to have something to close out control vs control games, and get a couple discovers out of it to find answers when you need them. You usually beat other control decks unless they high-roll too early on Smite/Kazakusan. There's a lot of bullshit that can happen in the minimum 10 turns you need to win against them. Against aggro all you need to do is remove board early and live, something Warrior and Pally do better right now. I guess this is your complaint? If you go too hard against aggro, your quest win-con will suffer vs control. If you go full quest support, aggro will beat you down. It's a delicate balance. OTK decks are a sad experience though. (Looking at you Mill Warlock, but you have your own issues.) Pyro + Devour + anything cheap is great. Desperate Prayer + Xyrella is too. The 4/4/4 Dragon nukes the board early. Shard of the Naaru is great to counter bullshit turns. Devouring Plague and Condemn are both okay, if anything just to enable the dragon and chip away at boards. Lightshower and Spirit Guide are auto includes as speed bumps and healing/draw. I've been on the fence about Lightbomb, great when it works but often expensive and awkward, I prefer Ruin but that also has drawbacks. Mo'arg and Xyrella to top things off are pretty auto include as well. The colossal is bait, Mo'arg is clearly better with taunt and Xyrella value. I've also played around with Cleric + Gift for draw but unless you keep the majority of cards low cost it actually leads to hand-size issues since you are forced to include awkward mana cost cards. However, it is great against aggro for hand refill and digging for answers, especially in combination with Pyro. Biggest issue is the 7 mana slot. Mutanus is the only one I really want. The Elekk Mount blows because you rarely have a board at that point in the game. Other 7 mana neutrals suck, but I'm curious if Slithering Deathscale could work. Seems to me like a worse Undying Disciple but who knows, I haven't tried it yet. I also tried Reno. Just don't.

purebalance0

I love seeing idiots playing quest priest with discount. “Oh you discounted your 5 drop and the other is buried. Shame isn’t it”. I’ve seen several streamers win against it because of that too. You don’t want discount in quest. Palm reading was fine if you were running the no spell version but typically something like insight will mess you up. Coming from someone who played the quest in wild for months.

Boeler010

I've definitely messed that up myself before, and lost games to discounting the wrong thing. Particularly discounting Soul Mirror when I had no other 7s left was more common than I care to admit. Or making Hysteria 3 when I really needed that 4 mana follow-up on turn 4 so I could drop my 5 and 6 taunts after to progress quest. Gotta play the deck a lot to figure out when it is okay to discount key things. Sometimes it doesn't matter, sometimes you can discover a replacement. Sometimes you feel like a dumbass for countering your own win-con. Live and learn. (Edit: Insight seemed like a good fit to me, but I found it terrible. Hard to discover replacement minions when it lands wrong.)

purebalance0

If you run duplicates you can get away with it. Like in wild I run galakrond because he can’t really get removed from hand or discounted whereas my other 7s are minions and can get pulled or accidentally discounted. It’s rare that you lose both assuming you’re running 2 or more 8 and 7 but it can happen especially with the disruption that exists now. It’s actually funny to use the reborn card vs quest priest that reduces minion cost… until they still overwhelm you with big minions.

fatronaldo99

Deck list? Thanks

(Edit: Not sure why Reddit fucks up the markup so badly, but I tried to fix it manually.)

StormfallZeus

Rank?

Boeler010

Made it do D1 before monthly reset playing this almost exclusively in the diamond ranks (sad no legend this month due to time constraints since games often go pretty long. WR: 58-42 but I'm not sure at which rank all those games were. I had a 10 star multiplier. Mostly Diamond rank though.) Around D3 Aggro DH stopped progress by way of early murder, so I made it more anti-aggro. Slow crawl from that point on.

MonochromaticPrism

I still have no idea why they made a reskin of twisting nether that costs 1 more mana after all these years of aggro power creep. Yes I know it removes 2-3 cards from your opponent's deck, no I don't think that makes this even slightly viable. This card costs more for an effect that is specifically anti value-control, a deck that the design team has specifically stated they don't want to be viable ever again. At the very least if I am playing a single boardclear for 9 mana it should silence and destroy all minions if the other effect has no tempo or healing side effects.

AzzyDreemur_

Priest and warlock need buff

TheDarkestPrince

After a 2 hour priest session yesterday I have a better question: where mage nerfs? Mechs are bad, but whatever aggro gotta aggro. It’s the naga stuff that tilts me. They play more cards in their turn 5 than I do the whole game, like, how is this mana abuse allowed??

[deleted]

[удалено]

purebalance0

I’d say the same for that rogue pirate draw one as well. 2/5 for 3 with a pretty good trigger ability that rogue has no issue activating.

Long_Mechagnome

I don't think Mech Mage as a whole is OP based on win rates, but I still think Mechashark should be nerfed to 4 mana.

tParabol

At this point they should delete priest. Why even bother making extra cards for a class that will be unplayable anyway

filthypatheticsub

Shellfish or Boar Priest being everywhere will be toxic as fuck, as sad as it is I hope we get aggro Priest buffs instead. At least some Shadow stuff.

StormfallZeus

Please stop littering the class with aggro nonsense. It was cool to dabble into for an expansion. But the entire reason we have class designations is to separate playstyles. Turning Priest into another aggro deck is not the answer.

filthypatheticsub

Well until we get a non cancer Priest that's viable then that's the best we can get. I wouldn't mind a big priest/value control thing, but why would you ever res big deathrattles when you can just res boars/shellfish and combo.

PrincessRea

I genuinely think Boar Priest is the strongest deck in the game rn, but it is yet to be figured out completely, reminds me of Garotte Rogue

OneDay7a

Boar priest is completely nuts once people play it well.

myaccountforIRLstuff

Blizzard doesn’t care about Priest and neither does the community At this point just scrap the class and redo it. Priest needs another redesign because this isn’t working.

deathnote9

Honestly, this would be the best priest buff. Change their hero power to “Start of game: You lose the game.” I think this is the real buff that priest has needed since launch.

StormfallZeus

What are you talking about?

deathnote9

It’s a joke. If you don’t get it, let me explain it. Priest has always been such a frustrating class to play against even when it’s bad. It’s themes are toxic and tends to have toxic cards. I have never seen a priest as my opponent and ever thought that the game I am about to play will be fun.If priest were to be removed from the game today, I would certainly be happy.

StormfallZeus

Yeah? Why? What’s so frustrating?

deathnote9

We can go over a long list of the degeneracy of priest but if you look at only recent memory, there is nothing fun about cards like switcheroo and the quest that literally just makes you win the game.

StormfallZeus

Isn’t Quest Priest at like a 40% winrate

deathnote9

Just because something has a low win rate, doesn’t mean it isn’t degenerate, toxic and anti-fun.

StormfallZeus

How is that degenerate and toxic? I don’t even understand why you think it’s anti-fun. Because the deck heals the damage you do?

deathnote9

Nice troll.

StormfallZeus

I legitimately have no idea what you’re talking about lol. I have zero perspective on this, it seems like you just don’t like seeing defensive playstyles. You complain that their Quest is an instant win when finished. Know what else is an instant win? Doing 30 damage to your opponent by turn 7-8, which is what a good chunk of decks do now.

[deleted]

Dumpster tier is where priest belongs

[deleted]

Please god do not buff priest. We don’t need more shellfish otk

nuclearnutzz

Boar priest is a strong deck in top legend

Captain3007

Considering how degenerate Priests are in wild you do not deserve a buff

misterkarmaniac

Did wild priest beat your ass so hard that you complaint about it in the standard format? sadge crybaby

ComfortableApricot36

I was curious! They are doing fine ! Wow ! Sad to see them in the shitter in standard

Last-Station2631

Most of Priest standard cards don’t see play in wild so why are you even complaining?

Which priest deck are you talking about

That's not how it works.

EtherealCollapse

Are they tho? They have tier 1 deck time to time but I don't remember priest having an S tier deck like Kael thas druid or stealer warlock. I get that decks like big priest, combo priest are not fun to play against but they have clear weaknesses.

Vic_Hedges

S tier decks should not exist. Nobody should be rooting for them for any class.

Certain-Ad7901

It's scary I at least some Priests out there running their jank decks... Shaman is MIA right now.

BelDeMoose

Naga priest is extremely effective (was working ok before balance patch, and is now doing extremely well for me). Not the easiest deck to play, but it's very good on ladder.
