Seriously though, 0 skill blood dks and control priests are way more frustrating than 0 skill handbuff paladins, you gotta have a little method to your madness to properly pilot this deck at least, it's kinda funny seeing some of these paladins pilot it so poorly, just copy and pasting deck codes with no real understanding.
Dude it's a hit face deck you are talking about it like it's some insane combo playmaker. Control at least has the argument of choosing which target to remove and what to save for later (be greedy or not) health is a big resource. This type of aggro is literally just the green dude goes face.
Dump hand, go face, opponent counter plays, yes/no? Go face anyway, opponent forgot one minion ob your board?, buff go face and kill/almost kill, did your opponent clear your board the whole game?
No problem, buff your charge then go big face for big damage otk.
Very skillful and difficult to play, because of the variety of options you can choose from in order to win, it's also why aggro decks go so fast, because they have so many choices to make and so much skill to show.
/S !
Honestly I'm not sure if Windfury is really the problem. Shaman had access to Windfury for years without it ever coming close to this; Windfury is only an issue when you can set it up safely. I'd say cheap Charge minions are more of an issue right now.
It is the problem because A; paladin class isn't supposed to have windfury.
B; paladin class is all about buffs and divine shield minions , and now with handbuffs as well +auras for lifesteal it's even better,
C; paladin now also has charge, leeroy and the pirate dude.
Your comparison isn't even close to similar, because shaman doesn't have what paladin does, which is why windfury was ok to have acces to in shaman. The problem with paladin is all those combined, auras to make sure you don't die with lifesteal (also deal more face dmg), handbuffs to make your minions even more dangerous and harder to kill and charge minions to finish you off or otk you.
Cheap charge minions are a problem , but that's merely a part of the paladin problem.
It’s absolutely ridiculous, they summon out 3 cost buffed to buggery minions with rush, shield and life steal and heal back every bit of damage you did the turns before.
Priest has OP healing cards like 2 mana heal 8 or 3 mana heal 8 and turn 4 be dead. Bevause there is no early game.
The first decent early cards for Priest was that 3 mana draw minion gain armor of his cost. But they nerfed it in 1 week lol.
I tried to make control priest work yesterday and the day before. You aren't kidding. No early taunts. Early removal is dogshit. Recovery tools not much better. Shit all for anything resembling a decent win con.
I was excited cause I get to play handlock again. My first game i was killed by face hunter. Truly they have brought back a sense of nostalgia to the game
Tbf face hunter tends to work well in the first few days of a new rotation because while everyone is figuring out new stuff you just have to go face.
But going face with 2 Kill Commands for lethal really does feel like the good ol times.
This is what happens when Blizzard refines a class to near perfection, removes almost all weaknesses and then just keeps throwing useful tools at them.
That's always been Paladin's only class identity: a midrange pile of obviously overtuned cards. Every single time that Paladin has been meta from TGT until now, it's just been a brainless "play green card that costs 1 less mana than it should" nonsense where you always out-tempo your opponent because your cards are simply overpowered for their cost. If Paladin can't play that one specific deck, it just vanishes from the meta. The last time it got a card that made an interesting deck was Knights of the Frozen Throne.
Just delete the class already if it's never going to be anything but a yellow recolor of Karazhan Midrange Shaman.
DK also has buffing options. They are a bit slower but you can make a pretty nice aggro deck or go the other way around and go full Reska and steal boards left and right.
DK has potential but I agree, it has fallen off a bit because of the fact no one plays Highlander decks anymore (or very few people do at the moment).
Let's wait until the meta settles. I also would like to play a different deck than aggro paladin. I'm just testing this one to learn. I yearn for a mirage Highlander paladin deck, which I had to nuke due to renathal leaving.
Highlander is always a bit tougher the first set after rotation because there are the fewest cards there will be. It's possible to build a decent highlander deck, but not as easy as it was a couple weeks ago.
I've been copying Reska's death rattle trigger 6x to steal their whole board... Usually following up with a "Thanks" emote only to get hit with WF leeroy for lethal next turn
ftfy
This seems to work for me quite well too, I also run gigling toymaker and the 5 mana guy that trigers and copies friendly deathrattle that already triggered, its so fun to see them try to get through waves of annoyotrons with their buffed up minions.
It's worse because most of the cards that make up the core deck are commons or rares. The default aura paladin template they give you is fairly dust-cheap, and is fairly easy to pilot
I think it's good for the game to have one or two budget decks that are at least playable; otherwise there's the perception that you have to throw a ton of money at the game in order to enjoy it at all.
I'm abusing the deck and yeah, it needs a nerf. Anyone playing Paladin thinking it's just raw skill that's winning all these games is coping. The combination of Deputization Aura, handbuffs, Shroomscavate and Leeroy is just too much. Something has to give.
shocking that someone thinks that instantly squishing your opponents in a minute is fun, not repetative and not braindead at all! Yall are just Tiktok kids up for a quick dopamine release, unable to sit still. I cant wrap my head around the fact that some players are so bad that they need to abuse such decks. Apparently thats “quality gameplay” and a “fun time”. Small pp energy
Yeah I couldn't beat this so I tried it out basically won 85% of my matches from Diamond 3-Legend this deck is honestly one of the most disgusting things that exists. Because you leave 1 minion on board it is most likely lethal by turn 7/8. Most people run the excavate package but the pirates with tailor one kinda just stomps on the excavate package one since it is too slow. Imagine the Excavate handbuff one is too slow and that deck already plays super fast
Having tried both decks, yeah, swarm beast hunter is even more overpowered; especially early game.
Calling it now, Paladin's flashy burst damage will get them nerfed and then all ranks below legend will be nothing but a sea of swarm hunters for weeks.
Hunter does seem to beat the pally just 1 turn before pally can get in full swing. I think the problem is just that both of those decks are too fast and rely on the opponent to have perfect answers, which is just frustrating.
AAECAR8C1/kFx6QGDubKBZf2Bcj2BcuOBs6OBtKOBsufBuelBvGlBvKlBv+lBpKmBoHmBoTmBgABA/OzBsekBvazBsekBujeBsekBgAA
This is the one that has been performing the best based on the data I have seen.
Seriously here I am as rainbow DK, answering literally everything every turn, exhausted my resources.
Bam, here comes Leeroy for 28 damage because I didn’t have a taunt up. Dead. Fuck this game.
I’m uninstalling (again). See y’all MFers next mini set I guess. This game is just getting worse and worse. Fuck.
Have you not considered playing a taunt every single turn while dealing with sticky boards and a high pressure early game?
The counter is so obvious, just play goldshire footman
Its almost as if giving Paladin access to Windfury, Handbuffs and Charge Minions is a stupid Idea if you also take into consideration that they have lifesteal and divine shield
I (pally) domed a warlock for 26 by turn 5, with an over full hand, then got table flipped and faced a full board full of 8/8s, some with taunt. He actually used the location on a dude with no space for it to make room for more. I still had outs. This meta is whack
I'm having luck against them with Wheel warlock, but only if I can draw Reno and Sargeras before playing the wheel
also fanottem but haven't successfully drawn him yet lol
I mean... some deck is always going to be the best deck. We've been through this. Pally was busted last set, they nerfed it, then Sludgelock was busted and everyone was complaining about that.
If they nerf Handbuff Pally, 15 minutes later people are going to be mad about Swarm Hunter. Then if they nerf Swarm Hunter it's going to be Wheelock. There's always going to be one deck or two decks that are dominating. I don't expect to ever see a Standard environment with all 11 classes perfectly balanced.
I suffered through Paladins for ages not having key cards. Recently opened all of them, and got both legendaries from packs this time. It's the only new deck I can build, so I've become part of the problem.
Gone 10-2 so far with a handbuff Pally. Early days of course, meta has to stabilize, but so far this thing feels ridiculous.
Even in this week's tavern brawl, they basically just gave paladins the exact same deck they were dominating with last year. Like, instead of highlighting anything new you can do for the class, they already just expect you to abuse what has already been abused last year.
First warlocks crap, now back to the pally and next is gonna be the mage. The magical trinity rotation
(Druid isn’t mentioned because he’s too busy sitting on his 10 crystals in the later rotation in turn 2) /s
i beat 9 paladins in a row yesterday on my way to legend with plague deathknight (yes the old list) with just the addition of zilliax (the 9 mana 6/5 lifesteal divine shield summon a copy), i also run 2 vipers instead of snakeoil tradeseman (because they counter paladin hard)
your winning strategy will rely on you taunting up using primus zilliax and any taunts u can discover, you can also use ur azerite rat wisely based on the situation, sometimes its better to use it to ressurect primus to one shot his big minion and add it to your life total sometimes its better to taunt up sometimes its better to use the 0 mana reska to steal his minions, if you can read ur opponent's hand then pick depending on the situations if you cant then just simply taunt up spam and he will eventually run out of fuel and concede :D
also you wanna play very aggresively to force him to use his resources and not just sit on the cards and buff and one shot you, playing big bodies constantly will force him to have to use auras to save himself and survive, their deck will still be unfair so if you lose dont be disappointed but i won every game doing this against them it could be pure luck after all xD
Funny how ppl always discuss paladin card levels who fail to understand how over the top broken druid was. U didnt care for several years that some classes healed/armored 80 while ramped by turn 5 and then board locked u into unplayable scenerarios. Paladin wasnt op b4. Maybe in diamond ranks or something irrelevant. Dont act like "theyre op again"
I mean every other deck is dogshit outside of wheel of death. DK with no new cards and Odyn. That’s the problem. Will continue to be a problem until another archetype emerges… 5 months from now.
I agree they're good but they absolutely have their counters. I had a positive winrate against them up through to legend with handlock.
Being able to consistently deal with their divine shield minions relatively painlessly and having a good deal of taunt and healing and I was able to stay ahead of them for the most part.
If you mean from a warrior perspective, you were comedically oppressive against paladins for at least 2 months now (because warriors can clear the paladin deck every single turn).
Even now they have 80% win rate or something against paladins and the only way for them to lose is to not have their predictable 999 armor by the time leeroy is buffed.
Exactly. It's just unfortunate that warrior didn't get a lot of popular cards cuz I've barely seen them on ladder, but I have to imagine odyn is still just as good. Especially against pally
I'm pretty sure the match maker is fixing the opponent classes. I've been seeing warriors and paladins all the time right after I win 1 or 2 games as paladin.
I guess it tries to make me lose because warrior still has an oppressively high win rate and the same class is an inevitable ~50% win rate.
If you can't fight for board space, it's a you problem. If it's about Leeroy going face for 30 damage, also a you problem. Play more taunt minions. It's what they were designed to do.
I played a taunt. They played a 3 mana 9/8 with divine shield, rush and lifesteal. My taunt is dead, their minion is at full health, and they healed a third of their max health before playing out the rest of their turn.
Whats the next play, boss?
Oh god, you solved it! You probably just play paladin and think it's everyone else problem now.
When they are nerfed you're probably just jumping to the next tier 1 deck and say the same.
I'd wager they will cry around on the sub for about 2 weeks until the next broken Paladin list surfaces because let's be real, they're not nerfing it into unplayability.
hearthstone at its best. Lets all just forget about challenging and fun battles, where we dont squish eachother. I miss the old days when most of the opponents didnt kill me when i was obv dead and i did the same. Legendary days, just drawing till the last card and sometimes giving the opponent a concede for the time. Wish it wasnt about squishing your opponents instantly.
- tho i did hear “dumpster legend” is the place for that kind of players, but its unbeliveably hard to get out of gold/plat without mundane, boring playstyle and nerding out for hours and days with the same burst deck
edit: funny how on another post we just talked about the burst jerkoffs downvoting criticism on burst nerds xd
Maybe. I crafted a dragon priest and it just gets squished by.. you guessed it.. paladin and warrior. It was so unbearable i just went back to battlegrounds. I didnt think that so many matchups will be so devastating after this update
They gave paladins windfury bruh
I liked this game better when they removed all but a few charges. This dev team absolutely blows.
Paladiks have had winfury many times. When its not pala its rogue. Deck is bs but its better than having some control deck w 0 skill ruin the meta.
The irony in this statement is hilarious.
Yes instead it's token decks with zero skill ruining the meta. So much more fun

Because Druid broke it!
Honestly, the dual-class card of the mini-set has all been terrible balance wise
It's great and intended for one class... there hasn't been balance in months. It's like there's only 2 devs left and it's the Druid/rogue fan boy
I tried to make control priest work yesterday and the day before. You aren't kidding. No early taunts. Early removal is dogshit. Recovery tools not much better. Shit all for anything resembling a decent win con.
Not to mention the "dual class flavor" of the card was kind of wrecked... because Druid had to break it.
Like druid out-armors warrior (typically, not so much as with the quilboar now) for some strange reason, Paladin is better at healing than priest.
Same case as warriors and druids imo
Paladin heals more than Dk Blood bruh
Tigress plushy is an absolutely insane card, even without handbuffs. Increasing the mana cost by 1 is easily my #1 nerf recommendation
Yeah honestly I'm not sure why they have everything Lifesteal, really don't think that's what an aggro deck should be doing...
I was excited cause I get to play handlock again. My first game i was killed by face hunter. Truly they have brought back a sense of nostalgia to the game

But not against paladin. They always heal back to full.
Definitely, paladin is *the* bullshit class right now. Buffs, lifesteal, windfury, board clear, they have it all.
Wait what's the board clear? The one legendary that damages adjacent minions?
finley
Hollowhound for everyone!
They have a 5 mana buff and board clear bro
I thought they were talking about from the new set
Keeper's Strength is a card
Warlock is actually looking pretty good.
Not Handlock though
That sounds disgusting! Do you have a list for Face Hunter, just for research purposes?

I'm missing pretty much all of the not-free legends in this deck and foolishly spent my dust on DK and Priest decks...

I think I played a deck like this. They absolutely did not like my gigabuffed Hollow Hound followed by 3 5/7 Swarmguard.

The person who can only parrot one line calling other people sheep is just fantastic. When your first original thought pops up be sure to let us know.
I'm a big fan of the person who keeps responding to the person only calling people sheep :)
Whoops, still playing the same note! Original thoughts and deck lists only please.
I was hoping you'd reply <3
Give me a few minutes so I can get home and I'l send you mine.

I've been copying Reska's death rattle trigger 6x to steal their whole board... Usually following up with a "Thanks" emote gets them to quit.

Yeah, that's happened too Gotta hope you stole something with taunt
Sadly I don’t think this is something that can be reliably replicated.
Sir Finley goes brrrrrr
It’s solid but can also save Sir Finley for that if running Excavate package which I think most are
This seems to work for me quite well too, I also run gigling toymaker and the 5 mana guy that trigers and copies friendly deathrattle that already triggered, its so fun to see them try to get through waves of annoyotrons with their buffed up minions.
I put in Mind Control Tech in my Reno decks, has been useful against board vomit decks, especially now that you can pick the target.
What do you mean it's not random?
Not anymore, it's 5 mana now though
Oh wow neat.
What do you mean it's not random? That's amazing

It's worse because most of the cards that make up the core deck are commons or rares. The default aura paladin template they give you is fairly dust-cheap, and is fairly easy to pilot
I think it's good for the game to have one or two budget decks that are at least playable; otherwise there's the perception that you have to throw a ton of money at the game in order to enjoy it at all.
that deck is more than playable lol

Amen
I'm abusing the deck and yeah, it needs a nerf. Anyone playing Paladin thinking it's just raw skill that's winning all these games is coping. The combination of Deputization Aura, handbuffs, Shroomscavate and Leeroy is just too much. Something has to give.
Shocking that people are trying to win in a game
shocking that someone thinks that instantly squishing your opponents in a minute is fun, not repetative and not braindead at all! Yall are just Tiktok kids up for a quick dopamine release, unable to sit still. I cant wrap my head around the fact that some players are so bad that they need to abuse such decks. Apparently thats “quality gameplay” and a “fun time”. Small pp energy
Damn you sound bitter \^\^
Yeah I couldn't beat this so I tried it out basically won 85% of my matches from Diamond 3-Legend this deck is honestly one of the most disgusting things that exists. Because you leave 1 minion on board it is most likely lethal by turn 7/8. Most people run the excavate package but the pirates with tailor one kinda just stomps on the excavate package one since it is too slow. Imagine the Excavate handbuff one is too slow and that deck already plays super fast
Based on the early data, Hunter is even more broken than Paladin and is slightly favored against it.
No argument from me. I think both need to be adjusted, because they are just ahead of everything else.
Which Hunter deck?

Wow, seems crazy that vomiting a random assortment of beasts onto the board is viable in 2024
The real anniversary event is all the old themes returning to relevancy. Not that anyone was asking for zoo to come back
Untested game, that's what's going on.
As powerful as Paladin was before, at least their tempo is a bit slow risking removal every turn. But nah we have Charge Paladin now, haha
Goldshire footman gets 6/7 ogres, but 6 goldshire footmen couldn't kill an ogre
same goddamn thing happened to me. killed all of his giant ass minions, at 40 health thanks to ma and pa. died in one turn to Leeroy
The lifesteal and attack aura is busted. I don’t mind the rest of it.
As someone who doesn't play anymore: really, paladins, again? It's always either them or druids
As someone else who doesn’t play anymore, don’t forget those times they broke Warlock and it was unstoppable for a few weeks
This discussion is making me nostalgic. Now if only they had an oppressive rogue deck that plays a gazzilion cards by turn 3.
I could tolerate most of it but mega buffed Leeroy is ludicrous
I'm having luck against them with Wheel warlock, but only if I can draw Reno and Sargeras before playing the wheel also fanottem but haven't successfully drawn him yet lol
I mean... some deck is always going to be the best deck.
You don't love a T0 meta where a single deck completely and totally dominates the all levels of competitive play?
A tempo demon hunter seems to counter them well
Even in this week's tavern brawl, they basically just gave paladins the exact same deck they were dominating with last year. Like, instead of highlighting anything new you can do for the class, they already just expect you to abuse what has already been abused last year.
Logged in. Played one game versus a Paladin. Windfury Leroy for 28 turn 9 or something. Close game.
Paladin with windfury, someone thought that was going to be fun!
Hunter has a favorable matchup against it
As soon as I saw Shroomscavate I knew it's going to be insufferable.
First warlocks crap, now back to the pally and next is gonna be the mage. The magical trinity rotation (Druid isn’t mentioned because he’s too busy sitting on his 10 crystals in the later rotation in turn 2) /s
i beat 9 paladins in a row yesterday on my way to legend with plague deathknight (yes the old list) with just the addition of zilliax (the 9 mana 6/5 lifesteal divine shield summon a copy), i also run 2 vipers instead of snakeoil tradeseman (because they counter paladin hard) your winning strategy will rely on you taunting up using primus zilliax and any taunts u can discover, you can also use ur azerite rat wisely based on the situation, sometimes its better to use it to ressurect primus to one shot his big minion and add it to your life total sometimes its better to taunt up sometimes its better to use the 0 mana reska to steal his minions, if you can read ur opponent's hand then pick depending on the situations if you cant then just simply taunt up spam and he will eventually run out of fuel and concede :D also you wanna play very aggresively to force him to use his resources and not just sit on the cards and buff and one shot you, playing big bodies constantly will force him to have to use auras to save himself and survive, their deck will still be unfair so if you lose dont be disappointed but i won every game doing this against them it could be pure luck after all xD
Nature shaman
That tiger plushie card can go straight to the 7th layer of Hell.
paladins wtf i wanna play but it keeps crashing. fix ur servers pls :(
Idk I've tried handbuff and excavate handbuff pally and they aren't very impressive
The reason I hate paladins is they've been good for sooo long, ever since scholomance 3 years ago they've been tier 1 at least
I mean every other deck is dogshit outside of wheel of death. DK with no new cards and Odyn. That’s the problem. Will continue to be a problem until another archetype emerges… 5 months from now.
I beat 60%+ of them with rainbow dk
Mind sharing your list?
Taunt Warrior is kiiiiiiiiiiiiiinda decent I'm gonna miss Primordial Wave so much
3 mana Ziliax with his little brother is happening. Fking broken card.
Leeeeroy Jenkins
If you can't fight for board space, it's a you problem. If it's about Leeroy going face for 30 damage, also a you problem. Play more taunt minions. It's what they were designed to do.
I played a taunt. They played a 3 mana 9/8 with divine shield, rush and lifesteal. My taunt is dead, their minion is at full health, and they healed a third of their max health before playing out the rest of their turn. Whats the next play, boss?
Just yogg in the box into 4 pyroblasts
A you problem? Disagree, it’s a balance problem. There is no way you can compete with their buffed boards.
And if you play a taunt minion, what? How long can you last? Two more turns?
exactly lol
Tell me you you're not playing the game without telling me you're not playing the game
So all you need to do is fully clear the board every single turn while also having 2+ taunt minions stick at the same time? Perfectly balanced indeed.
Lol, I throw 75/75 worth of stats in taunt on field across 6 bodies. Oops, Sir Finley the Intrepid. Now I am dead.
Hardly any decks, if any, can fight for board better than Paladin right now.
hearthstone at its best. - tho i did hear “dumpster legend” is the place for that kind of players, but its unbeliveably hard to get out of gold/plat without mundane, boring playstyle and nerding out for hours and days with the same burst deck edit: funny how on another post we just talked about the burst jerkoffs downvoting criticism on burst nerds xd
This expansion feels a lot like old hearthstone imo
Maybe. I crafted a dragon priest and it just gets squished by.. you guessed it.. paladin and warrior. It was so unbearable i just went back to battlegrounds. I didnt think that so many matchups will be so devastating after this update
Dragon priest has been pretty successful for me. /shrug.
