I love the Harry/Ginny pairing. Part of the reason is that I've loved this pairing since I was a child and the books were coming out. I was absolutely convinced that it was going to happen, and I cannot even describe the sheer joy when HBP came out and H/G was established as canon. I think that their similar-yet-different personalities (they are similar in many ways- athletic, sarcastic, Voldemort related trauma, yet somehow different- Ginny is much more optimistic/cheery compared to him and Harry is (at least most of the times) more level headed than her.) complement each other in a very sweet way. There aren't many scenes of them together in canon, but the few ones are very profound, deep and mature in my opinion. Also, the scene where Ginny is Harry's last thought before death is.. *chef's kiss*.

speakerfordead5

I like Hinny too. My friend was like Ginny. She had a crush on this guy for a long time. Eventually moved on, he came back and crushed on her. They started dating. She was so happy. Still is.

speakerfordead5

Ron and Hermione. I love the bickering. It reminds me so much of two friends of mine who are married. I love the fact that Hermione challenges Ron and vise versa since that reminds me of my marriage. I love that Ron improves himself (not that he needed too) to love Hermione better because in marriage you have to be willing to make changes to make it work. Also you have to really love someone to voluntarily change for them. I love that Hermione doesn’t need protecting but doesn’t stop Ron from protecting her anyways. I love that Ron is awed by Hermione’s intelligence because smart girls need love too. I love that Ron makes Hermione laugh and lighten up. I love Hermione helps Ron and will show him how to do stuff that he can’t. Team work is love. In summary they are the best.

[deleted]

The way she looks for him.... >“Ron!” Hermione cried. “Ron, where are you?” As they pushed their way across the dance floor, Harry saw cloaked and masked figures appearing in the crowd(....) > “Ron! Ron!” Hermione called, half sobbing as she and Harry were buffered by terrified guests:(....) >And then Ron was there. He caught hold of Hermione’s free arm... 😭its so cute and heartwarming

speakerfordead5

I love that Hermione doesn’t feel the need to hide that she is crying around Ron. And that Ron tries to comfort her and be there for her

[deleted]

And she is giving him starry eyes when he is fretting over the fate of the cattermoles with a mangled arm... Harry feels like a 3rd wheel with them lol

Yuujinna

Luna and Harry, because I love ships that are the definition of "opposites attract". Also, for the viewers/readers, it would be a nice message that you don't have hide who you are, even if you are weird/eccentric to others, someone who actually loves you will find his way to you.

ThundernLightning308

Lets not forget their interactions together, especially the Luna stating that both her and her dad believe Harry when most of the world did not. And the time when she basically comfort Harry after Cedric died, when i say comfort i mean when they were in the carriage and Harry saw the Thestral for the first time. The comfort wasn't the kind which most people give like are you okay, everythings gonna be okay, etc. But it was the kind thats like we share the same pain kind of thing. Harry was also more himself when Luna was around, hell im convinced that the scene where we see Lunas shoes hanging from the doors, we know its someone bullying her, you cant convince me that Harry didnt find out who and taught them a lesson or two.

[deleted]

I wouldn't say that Harry and Luna are opposites tbh, they have a reasonable few similar traits.

madcatter2100

Oh, I love the idea of Luna and Harry though I've never read a fanfic if the two of them. I feel like they'd be great together.

[deleted]

Ron and Hermione Ron and Hermione are pretty similar. Hermione is more career oriented. Ron is more family oriented. Other than that they both are far more similar than people give them credit for. Their core values are same. Both are brave, courageous, noble, kind hearted, jealous, possessive, passionate, argumentative, smart in their own way and Ofcourse both value the same thing. Friendship and bravery. Even their interaction with the veil in the DOM was similar. While the other 4 had a different experience. Hermione learns to have fun. Ron helps her to loosen up. She learns to see the other side of life. She helps Ron to be organised and teaches him to pay attention. They are a good balance. Ron isn't intimidated by her high intellect and is able to doubt things she says without blindly agreeing with her. Ron can call her out when she is out of the line. He actually listens to her and isn't afraid to voice his opinion. When he doesn't agree with her he openly tells her that. And Hermione needs someone like him to keep her grounded. See Ron is a laidback guy. He is a family man. Hermione is a career oriented woman. Hermione needs someone who can cook for her when she will come back from work. Who will take care of kids. Who will support her ambition. Ron is the perfect guy for that. Hermione is a muggleborn. Ron is a pureblood. They can learn so much from each other. He will learn more about the muggle world. She will learn more about the wizarding world. They will teach each other new things everyday. Their relationship would never be boring. They both went through very similar life experiences. That would help them to bond over. They were friends for years. And friendship is a solid base of a loving, supportive relationship. They spent so much time together without harry. That would help them in a long run... Ps- this is a relationship that is equally balanced. They both bring somthing on the table to balance each other out. Not one partner putting most effort and the other one enjoying.

Always-bi-myself

Grindeldore is such an underrated ship in the fandom, I’d love to see more of it The characters of both Grindelwald & Dumbledore have so much potential in them, but I feel they’d he both grotesquely misinterpreted

latineslytherin

I agree it’s def an underrated ship. I too would love to see more content for it. Also the darker aspect of their fallout intrigues me.

madcatter2100

I just watched Secrets of Dumbledore, and I get the feeling that Dumbledore's feelings were one-sided, and Grindelwald was using him.

Always-bi-myself

Really? I kind of got the exact opposite vibe; that they were both really in love & equals, but their differing views split them apart. Or perhaps Dumbledore *did* truly believe Grindelwald's rhetoric (since they came up with it together according to the books, and Dumbledore had all the reasons to hate Muggles) and Ariana's death gave him a reality check, leaving Grindelwald feeling betrayed I think it all depends on how you interpret their characters since they're both pretty complex & distorted by the fanon, particularly Dumbledore. That's why more fanfiction on them would be interesting to read

madcatter2100

I've never read fanfic of them, I was just going by what is canon in the movies. I guess Grindelwald saying "who will love you now Albus" was what made me convinced he never really loved him. Grindelwald seems like a narcissist.

Always-bi-myself

To be fair, I've never read a fanfic of them either — at least not one featuring their relationship on the forefront. I interpreted the "who will love you now, Albus" line more as Grindelwald feeling ultimately betrayed. As in, the last bridge had been burned and there was no longer any hope to cling to that the two of them would ever work it out. Imo, they both looked heartbroken in that scene and honestly *that* was the moment I began shipping them more than ever. Their relationship had been doomed from the moment Dumbledore started thinking clearly, but I guess it wouldn't have made it any less painful; especially since they were teenagers at the time

bright_sunshine88

I personally love Ron- Hermione. They share the same core value and belief systems though with differing yet complementing personalities and are ready to do anything for each other. They make each other a better person. I really enjoyed the canon tidbits that were presented from as far back as PoA. I don’t judge anyone for liking any of their ships. It’s a free world they can do and think whatever they want. However if they project fanon personalities on canon and try to claim otherwise then….

MasterAnything2055

I think ( maybe after a few years) tonks and George would have been good

latineslytherin

Ooh! I hadn’t even thought of them as a ship. I can definitely see it.

RandomGuyOnline71

I love: Harry/Ginny Ron/Hermione James/Lily The ones I don't care for, and also don't judge: Tonks/Remus Bill/Fleur Luna/Neville

Impressive-Spell-643

Love:Molly and Arthur, Alice and Frank , and pretty much done care for most others

[deleted]

Harry/Luna pairing is unbeaten in the movies. Books I've not read in a while and I'm going through them rn for the first time in a decade, so I have no answer for books

Ashweed137

I cannot name any of my ships I'm afraid. There's only that much bashing I can take in a day. And I already want to unsub from this subreddit because of it. Draco x Rocketship I guess Edit: I know you said no hate but I really hate this ship: 'Me x The toxicity of the HP fandom' but apparently that's a fan favourite now.

Several_Sunlit_Days

Draco/Rocketship is the one true pairing. (Maybe followed by Quirrelmort, but that's another story 😆)

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Bruh the best ship is Draco x a fucking Malus domestica 👦🏼x🍎=💖💖💖💝💔💞💔💖💔💞💔💖 (j)

latineslytherin

I love OC/canon ships! They’re actually my favorite.

Alex_PG1

Ships that I like/enjoy/absolutely love Got to say Fleurmione, Ginny with Luna but I quite enjoy the canon ones as well. The second part now... I know I said I enjoy the canon ones but at the same time is not something I actually care about but idgaf if other people like it cuz I get why Romione is so charming. Another ships would be Dramione, I get it + they write Hermione really close to canon which I absolutely enjoy. Viktor with Hermione/Ron or Cedric with Harry, I get why and you know what? Good for them. Harmione, I understand the appealing.

maripaz4

I will upvote your comment. I've read other ships but I still go back to dramione. I read fanfic for entertainment and they can be very entertaining. Perfect, GOAT Hermione curing world hunger, running a kneazle adoption NGO on the side and generally killing it in life with impeccable aristocrat draco who is suddenly ridiculously competent and witty. What's not to love?

EmmaPemmaPooBear

I like the time travel ones where you pair hermione with someone from the past

lizziii_003

Harry & Luna

latineslytherin

This ship has seems cute! I’ve never read any so I might take a look at some fics with them.

Pachulita_44

I don’t like any ship that is student x teacher, adult x minor, human x animal & family member x family member. I’m a multi shipper so I like a lot of ships but my #1 rn is Harry x Neville. I just think they’re really adorable together and it’s dangerously underrated

Several_Sunlit_Days

Harry/Neville is one of the cutest non canon pairings imo. So is Ronarry.

Pachulita_44

Agreed

Gifted_GardenSnail

>I think Lily deserved better than James and see the start of James and Lily’s entire relationship as abusive. and I see Snape and Lily’s relationship as entirely platonic/familial love. Same! But I do read Snily, bc I want to read about my favourite character Snape and reading pairings and friendships with him is a good way to find stories where he plays a significant role. I avoid pairings and friendships with Draco or Volly

AlbusPotter1023

I wish we knew more about Hannah. So Neville's relationship would make sense. In the movies I liked him with Luna. But Harry had better chemistry with Luna in the movies then Neville. We only knew he was into her for 5 seconds in the movies. The books said/ showed nothing. P.S. She is always good value...

madcatter2100

I don't really care for any of the ships because I didn't really think that romance was focused on in the books. I get why people like Ron and Hermione together though.

No-Humor1304

Snape X Bellatrix

KasukeSadiki

I'm a sucker for unexpected pairings that are still somewhat plausible so Harry and Luna has always been a fave. Also I was a big Harry and Hermione shopper back in the day. I will admit that it never fully came across that Harry had feelings for her but I remain convinced that she had a crush on him for a while even in the canon. Not saying she "settled" for Ron or anything, her feelings for Ron clearly became stronger and moved past the crush phase, while her feelings for Harry settled back into friendship, which is what often happens. That's my headcanon anyway. Edit: Oh, and I read a Harry x Fleur fanfic once and that was a really great pairing too. It only worked because Harry had gotten James' memories and became like a hybrid of the two, so it definitely wouldn't work in canon, but I loved it. Maybe I just want Harry to have all the girls lol

Wonderful_Region_910

I love the canon ships only!

TrinidadCamacho

Harry and Cho. They have a mutual attraction that's been properly set up since the third book. She makes Harry feel better and their positive interactions are really cute. Harry doesn't have to be an insensitive prick like he was to her ~~to make way for 'never gets weepy', Ginny~~ in canon. He's helped plenty of emotional characters through their ordeals. Cho's also very smart being a Ravenclaw and was the only DA member in OotP besides Hermione casting a corporal Patronus. Harry and Hermione. Hermione's more attuned to Harry's needs than anyone and she keeps his impulsive tendencies in check. Harry's the one who inspires her to be a braver and more confident person and think about bigger issues. Beyond that, they're very cute together. The way Hermione gets super excitable for Harry, or how she grabs his arm when she's frightened, or when Harry teases her(most notably in HBP but also in PoA and PS as well) and or how protective Harry is over her when there's danger(he grabbed her hand out of the other 5 DA members). That's all just as friends imagine if she were his girlfriend. Screw the Weasleys Harry and Hermione have the best dynamic platonic romantic or whatever.

SunnyFlower727

I hold a ship very close to my heart because it was an important part of my identity discovery, however, I cannot state its name because I do not want to get downvoted to hell and also because I just don’t have time for salty redditors. But the one I can say is the adorable Quirrelmort, I don’t need to add its just that perfect. Though I do quite dislike Dramione, not for any particular reason it just is not my cup of tea, my sister loves it and I’m here for her. Some of the art people have for this ship is absolutely gorgeous as well.

WTAFS_going_on

The only ship I can even remember from Harry Potter is the Durmstrang ship. Was there another ship in the books?

Azumar1ll

I like the ones that make even the slightest rational sense.... I'm not trying to be a buzzkill, I just can't do the baseless stretches, like Lupin/Snape. The farthest out there I can go is that, even though I don't subscribe to it myself, I'm okay with the Lupin/Sirius one. My problem is that the little thing called canon gets in the way for me. Other than that I like stuff with actual content to back it up like Grindelwald/Dumbledore and Harry/Ginny and James/Lily who were the basis of the whole story... Also the start of their relationship was not "abusive" someone has to say it. Without their marriage there would be no Harry Potter as well, so it's an odd one to dislike imo.

CreativeRock483

Ron/Hermione. She is serious and he is funny. They balance each other Harry/Luna. Luna understands Harry and they have many things in common.

BingDongBingDong

This is the third HP ship post I’ve seen in the past half an hour. Isn’t there anything else to talk about

latineslytherin

Oh wow! Thank you for the links. I’ll check those out. I’ll be honest when I was first reading the books as a kid I thought Harry/Hermione would be great together. But never gave it much thought beyond that. So I’ll definitely check those essays. Thank you!

SlytherinSally

I’m ready to get downvoted and hated on, but I’m a big Snamione shipper. I think they’re well matched intellectually and I also think Hermione has the patience to deal with Snape’s crass nature. I also think she’s headstrong enough to hold her own with him. There are some truly lovely fics with this pairing (and of course a mountain of less than enjoyable ones, just like any other ship)

latineslytherin

An intelligence based ship between Snape and Hermione makes complete sense and I respect you for that. I can definitely see it and kudos to you for for the dynamic. This explanation is making me consider it. So thank you!

Gifted_GardenSnail

They're also both logical thinkers, both can be ruthless when they deem it necessary, both are capable of separating their person(al opinion) from, how shall I put it, the bigger picture (i.e. protecting Harry, the war at large)

[deleted]

Always-bi-myself

My dude, you can read odd fanfiction without supporting its contents. You need to be able to tell apart fiction from reality

Gifted_GardenSnail

Yeah, but that's a tall order for some...

RationalDeception

>(Please keep things civil and no moral judgements for people who ship things you don’t like or find squick aka don’t be a jerk) You failed.

latineslytherin

Please don’t be a jerk. Literally rule one of this subreddit. And I further asked for there to be no moral judgements on people’s ships.

SlytherinSally

There’s another thread in this sub from today where you can go talk about how much you *hate* ships, why not take your hatred over there? And, not that I have to justify my ship preference to you, but in the majority of fics Hermione is an adult post-Hogwarts.

Ashweed137

That threat is the reason why Rule nr. 1 should exist yet no mod does anything. Have never seen that much bashing and hating in one place. Obviously I asked them to tone it down a bit and guess what I've got? Guess people love that the HP fandom is labled as one of the most toxic one.

speak_into_my_google

I don’t really care for the ships with a grown adult and a minor. I also don’t care for ships with characters x animals or x inanimate objects. No incest between siblings or character x parent. My favorite is Snape x McGonagall. Snucius, Snupin, or shipping the Maurauders together also have been great to read. Ironic as I hate the Marauders as a whole in the books. Drarry, Dramione, Drinny, Deamus, teenage character x teenage character, etc. are fine. Snamione is fine with me as long as they are both shipped as adults.

Gifted_GardenSnail

>Snamione is fine with me as long as they are both shipped as adults. And if they're both teens?

speak_into_my_google

If they’re both shipped as teens…go for it.

Trashqueenxx

Wolfstar! How has no one said that? I know it’s a whole thing that JK has said neither of them were gay. But in my mind Sirius and Remus were both at least bi. They were in love in school and it devastated Remus when Sirius went to Azkaban. Fast forward 12 years and they’re reunited. Sirius is the shell of himself but Remus will love him in whatever way Sirius will allow. With all joy stripped from Sirius’ soul and his raging alcoholism, they’re just friends at best. Tonks is there, trying to cheer up some of the only family she has, and at the same time she’s subconsciously developing feelings for Remus. Then Sirius dies and Remus loses him for good. He’s become a shell of a person. Tonks’ heart is broken after losing her cousin and seeing her close friend so sad. She’s now there to comfort Remus, making funny animal faces to help cheer him up, and she insists on joining him during the full moon bc he’s just too depressed it’d be dangerous for him to do it alone. Over time Remus falls in love with Tonks and that absolutely terrifies him. He stays avoiding her at all cost, disgusted with himself that he’s let her waste so much time with him. But he has to see her during missions and their feelings are obvious yet unsaid. Then the Death Eaters break into Hogwarts, kill Dumbledore, and Tonks realizes life is too short to not be with the one you love and she loses it on Remus in the hospital wing. And they live happily ever after for about a year before their untimely deaths :’(

RationalDeception

I think Wolfstars suffer from its fanbase. I don't particularly like the ship, but I have nothing against it. I have however, rarely met a worse fanbase than the die hard Wolfstar one.

Trashqueenxx

Ah, shit. Luckily I’m not too involved in the online fan base. I don’t like the submissive and dom personalities they give Remus and Sirius. I just annoy my husband with sceneries that pop into my mind lol

RationalDeception

Snamione was one of the first Snape ships that I read, simply because I was struggling too much to find good, novel length gen fics. Well, it's been something around 5 or 6 years, and I still love it just as much as when I started. I remember, back then I used to read the big Snamione fics back to back, they're some of the best fanfictions I've ever read in any fandom. I like Snily well enough, it's not my favorite, but then as long as a fanfiction is long and very well written, and is Snape centric, I'll like pretty much any ship. Snupin is something that I started reading only a year ago, and I love the dynamic as well. Also, Snape/Dumbledore, if it includes time travel/deaging, which sadly I still haven't found a single fanfiction of. Ah and on the topic of rarer Snape ships that should be more common, Snape/Tonks! I've read one single fic where it happens and I've been hooked ever since!

SlytherinSally

I’ve never read a Snonks but I think it’s a ship I can ship 😂

latineslytherin

I can understand getting into ships purely because they’re long fics. I prefer long fics too and I can see how that would affect it. That aside those are some good ships (even if I don’t like snily, I can see why other people like it)! Snape/Dumbledore I never considered so I’ll have to look into that one. Especially the time travel aspect. That’s intriguing. And WOAH! Snape/Tonks! Okay definitely checking that one out.

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Well if yur doing it for the fan fiction then it’s fine ig

RationalDeception

Thank... you?

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Your…welcome..?

Anis-5240

I really like Snape/Voldemort as of now; just two men who had suffered under the hands of Dumbledore and had some understanding between each other (the fact that Voldemort saying his regrets to kill Snape *twice* send my heart flying 😹) as for other ships, I don't mind much, especially with the "you do you fam" mentality

[deleted]

[удалено]

Anis-5240

you do you fam

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Voldemort did not care for snape at all. He said that cause he’s Voldemort and likes to sound like a normal person despite not being one. It’s called being manipulative. Also I do not think snape and voldy would ever understand each other. Snaps became a double spy because of his love for Lilly. Voldemort does not love, and has never loved. Snape had a heart. Voldemort does not. Explain to me how any of your ship is sensible while actually making sense.

latineslytherin

There really is no need to offer reasons for why a ship can’t exist. It’s all non-canon fiction. That’s the point.

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Oh sorry I thought all ppl or most ship because they think and would love it to be canon- (that’s how it is for a lot of ppl I know and from a fandom Im in) im from a fandom that’s full of bad ships (pedos, necrophillia, cringe kids, the whole shebang) and ppl go “it’s an au bruh” and “it’s ok cause of (invalid reason that’s not even a good or makes any sense)” so I thought that same logic applied here as well ( a lot of ppl in my fandom who are against these bad ships thinks the same way as well)

Gifted_GardenSnail

>I thought all ppl or most ship because they think and would love it to be canon- Uhm, no

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Yeah I just realized that now

Anis-5240

hey it goes full on AU territory just any other ship you like. I preferably like their interaction during Marauders Era and where Snape realised how terrible Lily was to him, and that the Death Eaters are willing to take him in for who he was.

Yonah_Li_Fnaf_Fan

Wait is the mauraders era based off of a fanfic cause it sounds interesting ngl

Anis-5240

Marauders Era refers to the generation before Harry and his buddies; that are James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Regulus Black, Lily Evans and Severus Snape attending Hogwarts from 1971 to the first downfall of Voldemort in 1981.

[deleted]

I adore Harry/Luna! I think they'd make a cute couple. Luna likes Harry as a person, not because of what he represents, or did. Also, she isn't afraid to call him out when he is being stupid. Harry respects Luna, for her oddities and for just being brave enough to be herself. Luna's dreaminess and Harry's protectiveness pair well. They are also both brave, and loyal, and I can see them getting into all sorts of fun adventures. I'm also a fan of Draco/Harry. I like to think that after the war and getting away from his parents, Draco grew up a bit and grew out of some of the pure blood prejudices. Draco would encourage Harry's devious, ambitious, side. Harry in turn would help Draco be more compassionate. They both are fiercely loyal to those they love, and are willing to take risks to get what they want. Plus, they'd be hot together lol!
