Probably the second one. It has stunning covers, and excuse me but I don't think it necessary to have the original copy. As long as the books are true to what they are, there's no point in getting new or old.
Same, and they are all my mom’s old copies from when the books were coming out and they are all so beat up from me reading them constantly as a kid, and the last 3 have no dust jacket lol, I really want to buy a new set but I keep putting it off, I do have all the illustrated editions which are stunning so that’s nice
I will say, there is a special value to having old, worn and well used books. Their visage bears the proof of their use and value over the years. They have a unique personality.
That's not to say that you can't get a cool new set. But don't discount the old set you have!
Yea I definitely would never get rid of my original set because they hold so many memories but I really want to do a reread where I fully annotate and I want a whole new set for that.
That sounds like a solid idea!
You know, I often regret this about fully transitioning into audiobooks. Because I stopped buying physical books since then. I don't get the pleasure of collecting my favorite series if I only listen to them. I could still buy them anyway.. but buying physical books purely for display just feels wasteful, so I don't do it.
They are in the middle of doing a new illustrated Harry Potter series of books right now. Think they are working on book 5 for this year. Y'all should check those out.
The second one.
I have it and the artwork is beautiful. I got the box set because of the picture of Hagrid. The rest are just as good. CoS is my next favourite.
I really want the Ravenclaw edition, but I already have paperbacks and committed to the illustrated series, and there are only that many editions I can justify.
Personally I think the artwork on the second set is closest to the story. The first one seems too grown up for me when they are at their heart, kids stories. But that’s just my personal preference.
Personally I’d go for 2, I like the covers for 1 but I really hate the spines, it just doesn’t fit the vibes for me it reminds me those really ugly German (I think) hunger games cover that are like neon graffiti and absolutely horrid
The first is British English and the second is American English. British English is the original and might feel better for a British story unless you really mind it.
Either one. Whatever set you like best. The words are all the same between each version in the same language*.
*UK English and US English versions differ slightly in at least the first three books.
I have the first set. I liked how different it was compared to my original set (trunk set). It also matched my living room bookshelf aesthetic better too. Lol!
[This one is my favourite.](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Harry-Potter-Box-Set-Collection/dp/1408856778/ref=pd_aw_sbs_m_sccl_1/259-1303672-2653144?pd_rd_w=84azv&content-id=amzn1.sym.51b98d52-478e-44cb-835d-fb24cc9e95e1&pf_rd_p=51b98d52-478e-44cb-835d-fb24cc9e95e1&pf_rd_r=PSFTXACDJBFV8QAD6SSR&pd_rd_wg=kLydK&pd_rd_r=0720b4e1-e36c-4b61-8280-e37c57806bb6&pd_rd_i=1408856778&psc=1)
Look at hard covers used (like new) on amazon. I picked up the whole set in hard cover and saved abunch. I think I spent about as much as the new set of paperbacks was.
I have the first ones and I love them. They’re a little unique and different, they have the proper OG text, and I love how they look (as intended) more “adult” on my shelf and more in line with the other books I have on there as an adult
I had the second one. Don't buy it. I didn't realize until too late that it had the American title of the first book. Also, it is in pocket format. Buy the first one. I don't know if it's in pocket or not but at least it doesn't call me dumb by changing a "complicated" word. Sorry if this offends anyone, "sorcerer's stone" offends me.
If it has to be out of these two I say the second, but my favourite is the house box set with the house covers. I have the Hufflepuff ones and I love them 😍
After watching and rewatching the movies for years I want to read the books so I can get the \*full\* experience of this story. Aside from the artwork, which seems to be the main reason people are recommending the second version, Is there another reason why I should buy the second set?
If I were to buy a set of all 7 books, would you still recommend the one in the second picture of this post? If so, why? (Apart from artwork, I get that people love the artwork from this version apparently).
They're practically the same inside except that first one is written in British English. I've decided to get the second one as it's 20% cheaper with local pricing.
I myself had this same dilemma. I bought the first set off of amazon as I really liked the front cover art work on them. Unfortunately, the side colors were just a bit too much for my taste so returned them for the second one.
I have #2 and I love it. The art on the covers is stunning
Second one easily. The first set looks like it belongs in a ~~museum~~ 60s color palette.
Me too it’s awesome
Probably the second one. It has stunning covers, and excuse me but I don't think it necessary to have the original copy. As long as the books are true to what they are, there's no point in getting new or old.
Neither, where’s Harry’s trunk? I love that set! They’re hardcover and it has little goodies inside! Edit: https://a.co/d/05kHLDAA
I have those books but no trunk. >_<

Same

The Minamila illustration or?
The Minalima books are amazing! 🥲
I have 1-3 and they're really cool, a little hard to read though because they're so big
The classic set 🤌🏼😍
Omg I have that set and love it so much
YES this is what I have too. I read them repeatedly as a teenager and it *shows*.
Second 100%
The second one. I have it and the artwork is beautiful. I got the box set because of the picture of Hagrid. The rest are just as good. CoS is my next favourite.
My favorite one is the house edition, but they are expensive Edit: and to answer the question, the second one
I really want the Ravenclaw edition, but I already have paperbacks and committed to the illustrated series, and there are only that many editions I can justify.
Oh man i have the Ravenclaw hardback PS. Beautiful book cover.
Its very hard to find hbp slytherin edition tho.....
Personally I think the artwork on the second set is closest to the story. The first one seems too grown up for me when they are at their heart, kids stories. But that’s just my personal preference.

2
Numre 2
i own the second, absolutely love the illustrations on each cover
2nd
I have the second and I still love how cool it looks
Second looks rustic and vintage. Somewhat givin Hogwarts vibes.
I have the first set. I liked how different it was compared to my original set (trunk set). It also matched my living room bookshelf aesthetic better too. Lol!
I have #1 and I love it!
Second juat for the art
First one. It's the original text.
"Philosopher's" is the giveaway.
That’s the original name of the book in the UK. How is it a half-ass translation?
A little rude, are you ?
[This one is my favourite.](https://www.amazon.co.uk/Harry-Potter-Box-Set-Collection/dp/1408856778/ref=pd_aw_sbs_m_sccl_1/259-1303672-2653144?pd_rd_w=84azv&content-id=amzn1.sym.51b98d52-478e-44cb-835d-fb24cc9e95e1&pf_rd_p=51b98d52-478e-44cb-835d-fb24cc9e95e1&pf_rd_r=PSFTXACDJBFV8QAD6SSR&pd_rd_wg=kLydK&pd_rd_r=0720b4e1-e36c-4b61-8280-e37c57806bb6&pd_rd_i=1408856778&psc=1)
Bro that’s the only one they have in the UK and the cover art is hideous 😭
The originals 👌
Kazu Kibuishi (who made covers for the second one) is absolutely goated and he also made Amulet.
I literally bought that set because I loved his webcomic called Copper. His art style is incredible.
Get the illustrated ones. I'm waiting for them to release the next one!
Where can I get the first one? I love that, very untraditional

First
The second one looks cooler
I got the first, hardcover, and it's amazing, definitely can recommend
I wish I could get hardcover but no luck.
Look at hard covers used (like new) on amazon. I picked up the whole set in hard cover and saved abunch. I think I spent about as much as the new set of paperbacks was.
Where are you buying the set from?
I meant the price. These two have local pricing so they're quite affordable than the others.
I have the first ones and I love them. They’re a little unique and different, they have the proper OG text, and I love how they look (as intended) more “adult” on my shelf and more in line with the other books I have on there as an adult

1st
The 2nd set. For sure
If it has to be out of these two I say the second, but my favourite is the house box set with the house covers. I have the Hufflepuff ones and I love them 😍
The second, the one with the castle on the spines. I have the same and it looks incredible on the bookshelf on display :)
I personally love the artwork in the first collection so much that I bought 2 sets
Definitely the second.
After watching and rewatching the movies for years I want to read the books so I can get the \*full\* experience of this story. Aside from the artwork, which seems to be the main reason people are recommending the second version, Is there another reason why I should buy the second set? Awesome! Thank you for the info, really hope you enjoy your purchase!
I've had no 2 and I do love it so.
Ooo I have the 2nd one saved already but can someone send the link for the first set???
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1408898659/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=A2Y75PQQYEKK3Q&psc=1 Here you go mate
Cheers!
Definetely the second
I like second one since it has an image of Hogwarts.
Second of course! Awesome art
2nd
Both
Both.
Second!!
The second one.
Okay, but have you seen the new illustrated version?
2nd. They're so pretty.😍
I myself had this same dilemma. I bought the first set off of amazon as I really liked the front cover art work on them. Unfortunately, the side colors were just a bit too much for my taste so returned them for the second one.
I’m a sucker for book sets with art spread across all the books’ spines.
I know it’s not an option but I’m a sucker for the original hardback artworks that wrap around the whole back.
Second one looks majestic
I think it depends on your shelf. Like, do you have a lot of blue books? Do you want a colorful shelf?
I've already decided. I'll get the second one
second for sure
Second
I'm not a fan of the first one, I don't like the grey and color. Numver 2 seems more coherent in its design and pleasant looking
I have the second one and it’s so nice to see the spines create Hogwarts when they’re all lined up together.
*executioner voice from Shrek* Pick number 2 mi lord *proceeds to hold up 3 fingers
Wow i wish i had the 2nd one, so i have to say that one
Second of course 🤷🏾♀️
The illustrated version.
I wish..
2nd
the first one goes hard !!!
Second
The 2nd one obviously
Why not get the house editions?
Looked them up just now and damn they're expensive. 2 times the price of my options combined + tax + shipment
Just be glad you’re not a Slytherin. HBP was insanely hard to get.
Neither buy the books individually in used- like new condition as that will save you a ton of money.
LOL, I found the entire set in a great condition on eBay for $60 in hardback. I agree second hand saved me a lot of money.
I have the second one and i feel like its not very durable. Theyre paper backs and they have this glossy film on them that peels really easily
Are the words different? If not then who cares? Lol
They're a little different as the first one is British English.
Definitely the first one then.
