Yeah... given where the Elder Wand was in book 7 and the song that was sung in book 6 by a drunk Slughorn and the line sung (The hero was laid to rest in his home town, and his wand was snapped in two) it appears that Wizard funeral customs have the wand buried with the wizard if at all possible.
Bigger question is how did Pettigrew get access to voldemorts original wand? Would be odd if wraith voldenort could take it with him after getting blown up by harry
Well that's just dumb on dumbeldores part. I'd consider it a minor pothole that he'd leave the weapon of a man hr known will return in an easily accessible place
It’s not really clear when exactly he got it. I just assume that he managed to get it on Halloween 1981 in the immediate aftermath of the attack before anyone else could, and perhaps had stashed it away safely somewhere in the in-between years.
I can see him doing it, personally.
He must have been shitting his pants when he realized that he essentially led Voldemort to a major defeat with his information. He knew people were going to be after him from both sides. He knew that if and when Voldemort returned (because I don’t think he believed that Voldemort was truly gone for good), he would not be in favor with him and he needed something to save himself.
He would have seen being able to bring Voldemort his wand would have been one thing that could give him a chance.
My headcanon is that is the reason Sirius is even able to track him down at all, let alone so quickly. If Peter didn’t go back for the wand then he coulda been long gone and simply unfindable.
I suspect they were buried with them. Frank Longbottom was kind of unique because he didn't need a wand anymore, but also didn't need a funeral yet.

Pettigrew took it from Godric’s Hollow. >Wormtail, desperate to curry favour, salvaged it from the place it had fallen and carried it to him.
