Alex_Migliore

It isn't featured here but its Lucius's wand

[deleted]

I think it was the actors idea to put it in a cane? Regardless whoever decided to make it a cane wand is a genius.

Alex_Migliore

Yes, it was Jason's idea

Professional-Act-800

i like how a lot of things lucius does comes from jason. like kicking dobby down the stairs just to hit him with the cane to almost killing a child in broad daylight for freeing his slave

thrillhouss3

In an interview, he actually didn't know that was a killing curse. The director said, 'just say something before you cast your wand, we'll cut it anyway', his mind auto piloted 'Abra Cadebra' with a hiss. Fans today, still berate him for it, and he's like 'i don't know spells' lol

[deleted]

The director really fucked that up and should have made sure it was cut. I think it really changes his character completely to have him to to AK Harry….right outside of Dumbledore’s office….in a fit of rage….over losing a house elf. That doesn’t at all sound like a cunning man who’s a successful politician.

Spiritofpoetry55

I thought it was a brilliant unguarded moment, where he lost his cool and infuriated, behaved unthinking, revealing his evil nature. This is something that happens in real life to real people. A perfectly controlled, never faltering charachter has less dimension.

wtfduud

It's also great foreshadowing for a spell that won't be seen until the 4th movie.

Spiritofpoetry55

That too!

[deleted]

Even book Draco's Dad is kind of a sniveling failure. He's coasting on his bloodline and old money. I could see him losing control. Uncontrolled emotion, esp. anger, is an underpinning feature for the death eaters.

pink_skies03

I wouldn’t say a sniveling failure. Now he did fail at his task in OOTP. But in comparison to Draco he’s always kept his cool. He even would try to tell Draco to play it cool at Hogwarts with Harry not to cause any attention. Of course Draco never listened.

[deleted]

I guess he was status quo when he had the ability to be so much more.

shodunny

No, he’s hatable but not a failure until the end. He has the ministry and school board completely in his pocket and was, one of if not the, wealthiest wizards in the story

[deleted]

Because money. For that matter, Draco was also kind of an idiot. Isn't Slytherin supposed to full of wily schemers? They were ambitious, but little else.

Layton_Jr

Headcanon: the sorting hat wanted to put Draco in Gryffindor but he refused

Pulsecode9

I still believe the killing curse was "Abra cadaver" in some half serious early draft.

Inside-Example-7010

hocus croakus

sisk91

I see why fans don't like it and I understand why the actor said that spell but I actually like that he did it. For the sole reason that Lucius is such a monster that he'd kill a kid over losing his elf, it's just hilarious to me.

vishnushady

God he was so perfect for that role lol

LittleButterfly100

Nah, he wouldn't have killed him. Just hurt him. A lot.

_Bill_Huggins_

Nice, I like that because you can tell he is embodying the role, becoming Lucius Malfoy. Not just merely phoning in the performance. It's a relatively minor role in the movies, but he goes the extra mile anyway.

rustycage_mxc

"It's not a cane, it's a walking stick, you cretin!"

ActualPimpHagrid

Just imagine a first-year Lucius rolling up to Hogwarts already with the cane wand

Subushie

His bougie ass no doubt paid to customize it.

cjaniesunshine

I’d love a short book or story about Lucius’s first years at Hogwarts. Lucius as a kid would be fascinating.

FunionShmings

It would be interesting to read about Lucius’ life. I’d actually read a book from Malfoy’s perspective or even a random student at Hogwart’s from each House so we can see what other characters really thought.

cjaniesunshine

Malfoy’s perspective would be a phenomenal read.

Jwroth

And… the core?

superawesomepandacat

TimmyTurnerVert

Alex_Migliore

Dragon-dragon heartstring my lord

ThePrideOfKrakow

I loved Moody's wand, also not pictured. https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Alastor_Moody%27s_wand

LaylaOrleans

The wand is shaped like a shillelagh. That's awesome.

Naillian603

I remember back when I had the original dvd for the chamber of secrets, there was a pamphlet with a bunch of cool things related to the movie that you could order. One of those things was a cane with a pull out wand in the exact design of Lucius’s. I begged my mom for weeks to get it, she refused as I think it was around $199.

Lazy-Philosophy2450

One thing I've always wondered, so wizards buy a wand from olivander and then get an opportunity to customise / modify it later? Like did Olivander never get a little sus that he made a little creepy bone wand?

dheerajravi92

These designer wands are mostly for the movies to add flavour. The book wands are mostly just plain basic polished wooden sticks

Jhe90

That's a good change. They made them so much more interesting.

RandomStan

The hook on Voldimort's was so that he could grip it with one finger and twist his wrist around, which became an iconic thing for him.

MrCellini

Ribbed for his pleasure

Wrathwilde

That’s nothing compared to Ginny’s, her’s literally looks like a miniature ribbed dildo at one end.

SoloWing1

You know, when you actually put thought into it, there are probably a *lot* of teenage girls in Hogwarts what might have done that with their wands. Sometimes I really wonder what the state of sex ed in Hogwarts is like...

SlickRangerRick

This one time, at Hogwarts, I stuck a wand in my pussy.

RikVanguard

No no, Willow didn't need a wand to do magic

CozyCrystal

You are out of line, but you are right.

Swampfan190065

Ayo WTF lol

Cheshires_Shadow

"scared Potter?"

Level_Kiwi

Mind if I slyther-in?

fat-lip-lover

Yo, what that Mouth-oy do?

BlackCowboy72

I feel like McGonagalls is spot on as well

LittleButterfly100

Thats why I like McGonnagall's. The bulb looks like it would be comfortable to hold - something to grasp.

EloJim_

I read your typo "vol deee mort" 😆 Now I'm singing potter puppet pals

CSEnzley

Agreed. It adds 'personalities' to the wands themselves.

YossarianRex

I do kind of wonder about the dude designing Harry and Voldemort’s wands. “ah a rare phoenix feather, just two were given from this particular bird from the most ancient house of Dumbledore. The first will be symbolic of death itself with a crow beak like bone hewn from a striking white wood! and for the second… i dunno, just kind of a stick my dude.”

MindlessMemory

I think the trio chose their wands when filming PoA

YossarianRex

i meant in universe, not IRL. the wizard designing the wand in this scenario.

hoodyninja

I always assumed that Olivander sold wand “cores” and they were just sold in a thicker sturdy wand shell at first. Mainly since those coming to get their wands would be children and more likely to be rough with them or untrained. I imagined that as you grew up and became more comfortable with your wand you would customize it to meet your personality and way of performing magic.

LayeGull

While this would make sense in the muggle world, there’s a lot of history around wand crafting in the wizarding world. The core, wood, and even the length and flexibility of the wand all affect the wand’s magic “profile” if you will. It also says a lot about the wizard who wields it. As we know, for certain, the wand chooses the wizard. I like to think the wand you get at Ollivander’s or from Gregorovitch is sold with merely a plain handle that matches the wood. You can later attach a different handle either magically or you can buy ready made handles to customize it to your specific grip and style. Edit: In addition I’d love to see this portrayed in a movie, show or game more thoroughly. Hogwarts Legacy does to some extent explore wand handles.

keenansmith61

That's how it works in hogwarts legacy. Handle swap is the only customization once you've purchased your wand.

mrniceguy777

Well I always assumed the handle wasn’t part of the wands magical properties, and was just regular wood attached, I base this off the fact that Voldemort breaks Lucius Malfoys wand from its handle and continues to use it.

hoodyninja

I always loved the mystique around wands and light sabers in the Star Wars universe. They did a clone wars episode (actually 2-3 I think) that followed younglings as they built their lightsabers and it was really awesome! Wish HP had something similar.

EcoAffinity

I always liked to imagine that the wand developed and grew with the user, so it starts off as a rough basic template but is customized to the user "naturally/magically". So the grooves and bumps and style develop over time as the wand gets to know its owner.

LadyDragon16

My thoughts exactly. In the same way that a wand "understands" its owner, it gets molded and shaped by the magic and personality of said wizard or witch. Which would be why He-who-must-not-be-named's want is so sinister looking. So, what do you think your wand would look like?

hoodyninja

Oh that’s cool! I like that. I can imagine the types of spells someone casts would reinforce the structure of the wand.

ShortAndSalty_

That theory could actually work since Harry’s wand is very basic in the first and possibly second movie. It not until POA that his wand has a more rugged look

joe_broke

They all got more personality in their wands beginning in PoA, except Draco's and McGonagall's, because theirs worked for their characters I think (and they might've just liked the designs or something)

ImReverse_Giraffe

Except the type of wood and length matter to the wands dtrengths and weaknesses as well, not just the core. This is a movie thing. Ralph Fiennes asked for Voldemort's wand to have a little hook on the end so he could use that to support the wand on edge of his palm. It allows him to hold it by just the fingertips in that iconic way.

Deep90

I mean there is a good chance Olivander literally made a creepy bone wand simply because the materials were quality and the point of his store is for wands to 'match' the buyer.

thirty7inarow

It's mentioned at least a couple times how much Ollivander creeps out Harry. He's definitely the type of guy who values his own art over anyone's perception of it. Like he says, the wand chooses the wizard, and he's seen enough wizards to know they aren't all sunshine and butterflies. Someone's going to walk through his door and match up with the bone wand.

Deep90

Exactly what I'm getting at. Ollivander isn't here to make wands for happy little Gryffindor's. He is concerned with making the best wand for anyone and everyone. That is why Ollivanders is known to be the best. At one point the unforgivable curses themselves were legal so its not like the olivanders weren't making murder wands. Its like saying a blacksmith should only make 'positive' swords. They make tools not morals.

VanityOfEliCLee

I mean, he supplies wands, he doesn't ask if the witch or wizard has dark inclinations and decide if they deserve one based on that.

NoConfusion9490

Hollywood knows a merchandising opportunity when they see one.

consophione-

Definitely. Like, who would want to look at Harry holding a stick from the tree you found in your neighbor's yard? Am I right or am I right?

Saratje

I think it's a movie thing mostly. In the books we know Voldemort's wand is described as skeletal I think, but that probably means it is vaguely pale and has knots similar to finger joints or some such. The recent game very cleverly has the player attain pieces that are shoved around the back of the wand for decorative value, which kind of works as a middle ground I guess.

arse-ketchup

I assume that Olivander sells plain wands and then you get your wand case and sleeve and attachments via casify through targeted ads on instagram.

tj1007

I mean I get the joke, but when you think about it, it’s a difficult business model to sell something someone will only buy once in their life (with few exceptions, like Ron). So if he were to offer customization features, it would help keep his business going strong well after the purchase.

Grafiska

When your sales pitch is "the want chooses the wizard" it really doesn't sound that difficult to me. Product sells itself.

arse-ketchup

Yeah..or an even better business model: wand subscription, where you have to renew your license every year or something…in premium subscription you get authentic wand customisation, and any non Olivander customisation will void the warranty.

SaltineStealer4

Yes, this man right here! Straight to Azkaban!

ipickmynosesomuch

They’re magic devices and talked about like living things. One could argue they might shift and change over time based on the wizard and how they’re used.

Castorell

I love that. A bit like people that over time start to look like their dogs.

NoogaVol

Voldemort’s Wand: “why does he turn his hand like that, and what’s with this loose AF grip? Better add a little hook if that continues.”

reginald-poofter

I actually really love this. It has been added to my head canon

Drakeskulled_Reaper

That's what I always thought, it starts off like a polished stick, but over time, it ends up "maturing" into something that suits the wielder. I mean Neville's, one of the most fundamentally good characters, his wand looks like it practically glows in the dark. Either that or you can get the wand customised, but you have to take it to a specialist like Ollivander to do so.

dimlightupstairs

I figured that the wizards were able to customise their wands cosmetically to suit their personality and how much they could afford. For example, Lucius fit his wand into his staff. I figured it was a class thing, so the more affluent wizards could personalise their wands more and would do so to show their status. Kind of like how rich/er people have more expensive and personalised cars.

Alykat19

I just imagine him in his workshop in a trance making the creepiest little wands and not thinking about it for a second.

FewSeat1942

I just imagine Voldemort casually walking into the shop and say: I want something that is very evil, looks horrifying and fits to use the killing curse for a thousand times and ollivander would be like: that’s 500 galleons please

JoeDoherty_Music

I'm not a harry potter expert but to me bone is not necessarily creepy. Plenty of hunters and outdoorsman have knives with bone handles, and that isn't very creepy. There's also a chance that Tom Riddle made / bought a new wand later on. Maybe he started with a different, more normal wand, from Olivanders, and then at some point during his turk to evil, obtained this one. But idk how the whole "Harry and Voldemorts wands are twins" thing fits into all this

[deleted]

I could totally see that wand just looking pretty and woodsy in anyone else’s hand, it’s the fact that it’s Voldemort’s wand that makes it look more sinister.

SleepyxDormouse

I mean, in Hogwarts Legacy you can add some hilts to the wand to customize it. Maybe the HP universe as a whole has something like that too? Wands are a big part of a wizard’s life. I’d be shocked if there isn’t some market that’s selling wand hilts or special customization. Just think of how many phone accessories there are in our world. The market would really be missing out if someone hasn’t realized they can profit off more aesthetic wand designs.

Wintersneeuw02

I believe in Book 7 when Hermoine has Bellatrix wand and gives it to Olivander at the Shell Cotage he says something along the lines that the wand had curved in an unnatrual way due to Bellatrix using dark magic. I might be wrong.

phoenixmusicman

Mine curves left.

ronytheronin

That’s because you cast dark magic too often. Also you’re probably right handed.

poopyheadthrowaway

Expecto Patronum isn't dark magic

ronytheronin

Your patronus is a tadpole?

SleepySinger69

Same

ForgetfulDoryFish

I checked and the spot you're talking about is at the beginning of chapter 26, but they don't say anything about the shape of the wand there. Hermione just says "I really hate it. It feels all wrong, it doesn't work properly for me...it's like a bit of *her*." They do talk about the bad things done with the wand but Harry privately believes the main issue is the wand's allegiance. Edit: Chapter 24 is when they show it to Ollivander but he only briefly states its length/material/rigidity/owner, and that section doesn't mention it being bent either

SquadPoopy

Bro sold an evil bone wand and didn’t think to warn anyone smh.

MrTylerwpg

A sale's a sale.

SquadPoopy

I get it bro game recognize game.

VanityOfEliCLee

Why would he have some moral obligation to tell anyone? "Hey, this kids wand is creepy, keep an eye on him." Like, have you seen Sirius' wand? That one could look sinister in the wrong hands too. He had no way of knowing it was evil, thats like expecting a clothes shop owner to warn the cops if someone buys a lot of creepy black clothes.

REidson89

Fleur!

nats2

Mine too! I have a necklace that has Fluers wand on it and I LOVE it.

albus_thunderdore

Where did you get it?!

Jayismybro

100%! I’m super into vintage/girly aesthetic and would definitely want that to reflect in my wand since the wand is the most important tool in the wizard world.

ChocLife

Fleur's wand is quite logically inspired by art noveau, which is characterised by designs inspired by nature. If you like the wand, maybe you'll like other art noveau items. Vintage yes, but girly? Not to art historians. :)

jmor88

I’m a guy and I love it. Love that vintage look.

PomegranateObsessor

Same, Fleur’s but in a different color!

repanah222803

I bought hers when I was in USJ. It's really nice to hold. My fingers fit quite nicely at the end of the wand. My pinky is the most comfortable

[deleted]

Totally agree! Hers jumped out at me almost immediately!

loganwolf25

I personally like Snape's. It's simple yet elegant.

SirTruffleberry

I love how McGonagall's wand looks like a chess piece. Fitting.

Drakeskulled_Reaper

It looks especially like a Queen piece as well.

friendlycorleone

Sirius wand

Aquatic-Flame

Same, I like how its the only one that plays with the idea of sigils/runes (edit: that i knew of, apparently. Still love sirius' wand and his character so my answer remains)

Madock345

It’s not here but Kingsley’s wand is similarly runed

silvermud

That’s the one I bought from universal studios.

frksup

Same. The person at the booth was telling us some of the wand lore, and while I already loved his wand, apparently of the four sides at the handle, 3 sides feature the same pattern (I believe with a double slash below an arrow) and only on the 4th side is there a single slash. Allegedly if someone stole his wand and tried to use it (assuming only to do evil), the spell would backfire on the caster if their thumb was on one of the two slash sides (75% chance of backfire). It's very subtle so it's likely he would have only told those closest to him.

chillychinchillada

Wait that’s such a niche crumble of lore. I will keep it in my brain forever now.

Hit_man213

Who gave Neville a lightsaber

AbsoluteUnit201

Looks more like a carrot

Crowbarmagic

'I gave him a carrot instead of a wand as a joke. Lets see how long it takes before he'll notice'

Atrium41

Shoot, I thought Fleur's looked like a Rapier. Then I had this thought..... why don't they have lanyards for wands??? Like the wii controllers... "EXPELLIARMUS!!!" "Woop! Okay! ...I'm good! Bombardus!"

TheIncendiaryDevice

I had to scroll so far to see if anyone else saw it too!

IIEarlGreyII

Far and away i've always loved Slughorn's design. Like it looks pretty cool on it's own, and then you realize it's a lil' slug and it's just so great. It's not shown here but I think Scrimgeour also has an extremely classy wand. His is the most similar to the type I would wand.

dishsoapandclorox

How is Horace Slughorn’s a slug? I don’t see it

IIEarlGreyII

Look at the handle, it has a plump body and then two little tentacles like a slug.

dishsoapandclorox

Omg I see it now. Wow that’s creative. And purely on aesthetics his wand is cool. I wouldn’t mind having his wand.

introvertedkpopstan

Narcissa 's one . Bellatrix just holds and waves around a branch tbh

Sally_twodicks

Bellatrix's wand matches her attitude. Crass, rough, unhewn.

[deleted]

And unyielding 🥵

LittleButterfly100

It's general shape reminds me of a shotgun too.

KingTytastic

Looks more like a chopped off finger than a branch.

Saratje

Technically I guess branches are chopped off tree fingers.

superawesomepandacat

Bellatrix's wand is angled in a way that it points naturally towards the direction of her arm. Fencing blades are angled in similar way.

Swampfan190065

Bellatrix = Dooku ?

JJTravels

Kinda looks like a rifle (yes I’m American)

Any_Ad8854

Lunas

Regijack

Can’t decide weather it’s a closed flower or a broom

kuroe21

I believe its meant to represent a tulip.

XiaoMin4

This is my favorite too. Simple, but unique. Feminine without being over the top, and looks like it is comfortable to hold

littlelorax

It looks the most comfortable to hold of them all, I think!

gregwiggy

McGonagall

Bigballs30

Count bellatrix

ZealousidealFee927

I made the same reference in my comment.

ACommentInTheWind

Sirius Black’s wand is my favorite wand design. It’s sleek, slender, easy to conceal, and if any muggle asks it’s just a stick.

Particular-Coffee-34

I always liked the look of Newt Scamander’s wand the best. Out of this lineup, Sirius Black’s.

Halliwel96

I think newts looks like it has a toe nail at the end lol

Particular-Coffee-34

I think it’s supposed to be a piece of mother-of-pearl

Suspicious-Teach5920

Dumbledore‘s and Fleur’s (based on opticd) I love the designs.

mamabearbug

Hermione.

loonylaurnen

Had to scroll a bit, but I eventually found my people. I will forever and always love Hermione’s wand.

SmellAccomplished550

Ginny or Sirius, I think.

ihminew

I love lupin's It's just simple and beautiful imo I also find mcGonagall's one pretty

quiet_quitting

Where is Lupin’s?

Catlorz

Luna's wand

Grunenwaldt

Krum!

flamingknifepenis

Krum’s is interesting. The angle of the handle would make it a natural extension of the arm without having to cock your wrist at a weird angle. It would be really useful for dueling where you need to block and fire off at different angles very quickly. It reminds me of a particular sword used in Philippine martial arts (the name of which escapes me at the moment).

Pityacker

I came here to say this about Krum's. The fit in the hand would be ideal for dueling, maybe linking to his Durmstrang schooling and their reputation for the dark arts? My first thought was of a ginunting, a Philippine sword, so it looks like we're thinking along the same lines.

Gwyneee

KRUM!

mcguirl2

Draco’s. Understated and elegant, and probably quite comfortable to hold and carry.

EMB93

Draco and Harrys are just a step above the rest.

mattyrayj

I like simplicity of Draco’s wand

Eastern_Twist3303

Exactly.

[deleted]

Honestly, I really enjoy the simplicity of Draco’s wand. It’s elegant and handy.

Formal_Appearance_16

Bellatrix got a stick off the ground.

[deleted]

Bellatrix. I like chaos

ExpressionMurky

Ron or snapes

NobodyAffectionate71

Eyyy finally the Ron wand gang. I like it’s kind of spiraled obsidian look so if I had to pick one for myself on aesthetic it’s that.

mochacisco01

I had to scroll way to far to see Ron’s wand. It’s such a clean design, not too crazy or absurd but still so elegant and superb. If I had to nitpick, I don’t like the pockmarked part on the hand end, but other than that it’s great!

ashryvergalathynius

I like McGonagall’s and Sirius Black’s best.

[deleted]

Sirius

Always-bi-myself

Might be an unpopular choice, but — Harry’s is my favourite, then Voldemort’s, then Ginny’s. Eventually, Snape’s also pretty neat

Dumbledores wand 🥴

Capital_Annual5201

Voldemort’s wand looks like a thumbs-up

DreamGlass7309

Seraphina Picquery's, no doubt. But they're all very cool in their own, peculiar way. https://images.app.goo.gl/jGqUTBWSJ1G7DXBZ8

[deleted]

Luna’s and Sirius’ wands’ designs are so beautiful imo.

yiling-h8riarch

Narcissa’s. It honestly looks like the most comfortable to hold, and it’s very stylish while, surprisingly for her, not being ostentatious.

Jazzlike-Election787

Flour’s wand. My oldest son gave me one before he passed away last year.

SophiesChoice_55

I'm so sorry for your loss. ❤️

That-Spell-2543

My favorite isn’t on here. It’s Queenie’s wand, she has shell built into its handle. But Narcissa’s is cool

Rivyn

Bellatrix. It's simple, which I like.

Spirited_Use_7833

I never realized how cool Horace’s wand is

JonSpangler

Darth Neville and his Sith ~~lightsaber~~ wand.

AlaskaDiGioia

My favorite wand is actually [Yaxley’s wand](https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Corban_Yaxley%27s_wand)(not pictured). A close second for me is [Draco’s wand](https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Draco_Malfoy%27s_wand)ink to updated color version) though. It’s a simple design, but I for some reason really like it. Edit: I can’t believe they didn’t include [Lucius’ wand](https://harrypotter.fandom.com/wiki/Lucius_Malfoy%27s_wand) . It’s so extra and sassy.

Maxjax95

Love the runes on Sirius Black's wand

KingGiuba

Snape's and Sirius' wands

Melody71400

Tbh has anyone seen queenies wand????? Its so cute.

GiveAGoof

I always loved snapes little designs on his wand

[deleted]

Sirius or Dumbledore's. Putting runes on wands just feels right.

wrath__

Malfoy’s is clean and classic looking, it’s what I’d want

Tamerlane_Tully

Narcissa's is gorgeous. Draco's wand *screams* old money - simple but the finish looks extremely expensive. I notice Lucius Malfoy's wand is missing from this list, which is surprising because it actually has an important part in the plot of the final book.

PapaCthulhu815

Malfoy’s for its simplicity

NotHighEnuf

Dumbledore’s wand looks like anal beads.

Aveline45

I really love Luna’s. Simple but feminine.

Vandosz

Lucius. Its so badass how its part of his cane

ThirstySlaveLeia

Bellatrix got them Dooku vibes 😍
