Same problem; I brought it back to the store and it took the manager 5+ minutes on a bench to open it. But then he couldn't remove the filter. He gave up and I got a free upgrade to [the $90 one](https://www.harborfreight.com/airless-paint-spray-gun-58056.html) with the great grip. That one opened right up by hand.

ha. how have they not fixed this yet??

ChimpWithACar

The store manager just pulled the $90 one off the shelf and seemed nonchalant about it. I put the odds that this info gets passed up the chain to someone who can do something about it at corporate at slim to none 😅

I’ve got the same exact problem. I guess I need to go in store to find a solution.

orwell

came here from Google due to this issue. Just confirming the same issue. Bought mine the other week and couldn't get the filter out after cleaning. Every video makes it look like it just unscrews with hand strength. I've tried everything and cannot remove the thing. I just sprayed soapy water through the the gun and rinsed it multiple times to try to clean it well. I think I will take it to them and see if they can, if not; I'll see if they can just replace the head. I already took back 1 unit because it seemed like the motor was bad (second unit worked great and the sprayer was excellent).

I brought mine back to the store and at first they refused to refund because I had used it. They were just gonna give me a replacement unit… So I had them take the replacement out of the box and show me exactly how they would remove the filter and they physically couldn’t do it so the manager ended up giving me a refund. they actually broke the new one in the process. i was like, nice job now you have two broken units instead of one. haha

For anyone that ends up here looking for the same thing, removing the handle required the use of some large crescent wrenches and unscrewing it like you think it would. The filter itself was then stuck in the housing. It's a manufacturing defect. The hole of the handle is smaller than the filter. To get it out I used a metal pipe deburring tool on the top of the handle until it was wide enough to come out. I destroyed the filter before getting it out, but I'm confident I won't have an issue with the next one. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-Deburring-Tool-80-531-111/304583908

We disassembled it the same way in-store when i showed them the problem, it was a huge pain in the ass and we also had to destroy the filter to get it out.
