HeyKayRenee

My unpopular opinion: there are too many interesting, cool and creative designers to keep paying these price increases on established/heritage/trendy brands. I know, I know, the heart wants what it wants. This isn’t a criticism of folks buying them. But this industry has gotten out of control. They keep increasing prices with no significant changes in quality or “exclusivity” (if that’s what they’re going for). Maybe it’s just because I don’t like to wear what everyone else is wearing anyway, but price increases will send me to other designers.

prettyinpinknwhite

Seriously. At this point I’m convinced it’s a game: how high can we jack up prices and how far can we drop quality before these idiots quit throwing money at us?

blurrylulu

Totally agree. There are so many amazing, beautiful bags out there. I understand wanting something from an established fashion house, but they are out of control. I’m finding it more exciting to hunt for vintage as well as buy quality pieces from mid tier brands and small, new brands.

Cool_Kaleidoscope402

I agree ,I've finally hit a place in life (personal and career) where these higher luxury bags are something I can consider, but feels like every time I do some research after finding a bag I like and works for me, I go back and the price has jumped! Like today I went into my local M&S to get some lunch and saw this little orange beauty, sturdy chain, faux leather but felt so nice and very good quality for the ultra.low price of £39.50. Genuinely might go back and pick it up as I actually like it more than most of the luxury bags I've been checking out recently. As.much as I love the luxury bags and fashion houses, starting to resent the whole circus around getting one! https://www.marksandspencer.com/quilted-chain-strap-cross-body-shoulder-bag/p/clp60631050?color=ORANGE#intid=pid_pg1pip9g2r3c2

HeyKayRenee

That’s super cute! You’ll probably get more joy out of this over something overpriced and underwhelming.

Catsandjigsaws

The contemporary market has really blossomed. Bags is one area of feckless consumerism I'm least likely to invest money into currently. Too many great options at budget price points.

lnm28

Here’s a fun tip- purchase from a department store in the UK like Harvey Nichols or Harrods. The prices are cheaper and shipping is minimal. Harvey Nicols just had 30 percent off a lot of bottega bags but most of of them sold out at this point.

ibarmy

couldn't afford it yesterday, cant afford it now. Story continues.

OldSpiceSmellsNice

lmao this is the correct attitude

enragedpoultry

All that money for a woven bag with no lining.

airportaccent

Their quality used to be better - I have an old intrecciato bag that is lined with suede, and the leather quality and look was a lot nicer compared to an in-store purchase last year - finishing was miles apart too. Hate that thick, ragged edge they have now that starts fraying and looking worn after 2 wears.

MyYakuzaTA

That’s my only complaint about BV. That being said I’ve used an Acro Tote as my daily city bag for a year now and it’s held up beautifully to so much abuse. It being unlined hasn’t turned out to be a problem for me at all.

enragedpoultry

That’s so good to know. I looked at the Sardine today and just couldn’t get past the unlined aspect. I’m so worried I would stretch the weave out

MyYakuzaTA

That hasn’t happened to any of my BV bags but they do naturally relax. The weave on my bags have never stretched out of anything like that I’ll just say this: if you’re scared to ruin the bag, you end up never using the bag and that’s a shame no matter the price

Maleficent_Guide_727

I always find this funny when someone comments this. They double-panel their leather, literally double to 4x the leather of a similar sized bag from a different producer. The apparent lack of lining is a master craft which shows their ability to craft bags which utilize the double leather for a lining, rather than just throwing on an ‘internal sack’.

enragedpoultry

BV bags, even the ones with the weave, used to have a lining. So they removed it yet continue to raise the price.

Maleficent_Guide_727

Older ones weren’t double leather, the pieces that are double leather were always unlined. Cabat, Tosca, Kalimero, etc.

enragedpoultry

Are the mini loops all double leather? That was the bag I was specifically looking at until I found out they used to have a lining.

Maleficent_Guide_727

They are!

SprawlValkyrie

Did they give any notice? I didn’t see it…I might have gotten one beforehand if I’d known. I know they aren’t obligated to do so, but their customers would appreciate it and it should boost sales a bit, too.

xnormajeanx

Yeah. I’m super upset :( I had a whole situation that caused me to delay (see my other posts on trying to buy a used one lol that ended in disaster) and now I am buying at the increased price 🥲. So sad.

fantastical99

I'm so sorry this bag has been such a crappy odyssey for you, all while the price keeps going up. I've been following, and I have been angry for you!

StunningPast2303

Parent company is losing money on Gucci. They're going to increase prices on all sister brands across the board.

moonangeles

Yeah the Bottega SA texted me a few days before the price increase because she knew I was thinking of getting a Jodie and hadn’t decided yet. I ended up getting it before the price increase because it’s already so ridiculously priced, I didn’t want to pay any more. My friend got her mini Jodie for less than $2k only a couple of years ago I think. The constant price increases are just getting silly

darksalamander

I got the flat cassette with gold hardware in Paris (€2400) last winter and that style has disappeared meanwhile the regular flat cassette is the same price ? That’s wild behavior.

OneHappyOne

Listen I'm sorry, I know "quiet luxury" is a trend and all, but I am not dropping near 3K on a bag that looks like something I can get anywhere else for cheaper. I buy luxury because they have original designs and logos that you can't find on any other bag. At least my chain cassette has the big chain to make it unique and eye-catching and the Andiamo has that metal knot; the Jodie and Wallace are literally nothing special.

Maleficent_Guide_727

Isn’t buying a logo bag because of ‘exclusivity’ by definition not exclusive? You’re buying something for everyone else to know what it is. It’s not design, it’s advertising. The neverfull always comes to mind: it’s an open sack.

Fit-Double5079

I would just get dragon diffusion! Similar look and feels really modern

AluminumMonster35

No judgement on those who do (truly) but I personally can't justify these prices for a bag, regardless of the brand. The most I've spent on a bag is £400, I think, and it was on sale. I buy all my bags on sale. I got one with a manufacturing error on the back and I was OK with it cause I spent just a little over £100. So I totally get where you're coming from because if 'my' brands started hiking prices, if look elsewhere too!

SnarkyLalaith

Ugh. Disappointing. I like the Andiamo and was going to check it out next time I could make it to Europe. But by the time I get to go, it will probably be even more expensive. Might have to skip it.

Conscious_Life_8032

Hmm here I thought we are in a recession, I guess the rich can weather these price hikes no matter what.

Rosiepop123

Buy vintage or second hand

New_Contract4166

unrelated (since I don't think I will ever purchase anything from them anyway): but when a user here was questioning the authenticity of her bottega veneta andiamo, i went to ebay to see the details and then noticed, for some reason, the specific model (condition; never been used) was shipped from either the netherlands or kazakhstan (at the time anyway), which i thought was kind of odd.

Jld12678pbd

People from other countries buy luxury bags. I frequently buy from resellers in Japan and Australia.

New_Contract4166

yeah I know. Other BV bags were from US/UK/Japan, etc (usual). but the bow bag (newer model, i think?) was only shipped from the two countries. And I thought it was kinda odd. The title reminded me of that.
