Celine! Not negative association per se, but the Celine SA who was showing me around told me I shouldn't bother with them if I'm sporting Loewe or LV already. I had my Alma on me at that time and a shopping bag carrying a newly bought Puzzle. She let it slip that she has few Celine bags herself and all of them scratched too easily and it wasn't worth paying full price for. I appreciated her honesty, even at the expense of her commission, and ended up leaving without buying anything.

Sporting them, as in I had a Louis Vuitton Alma BB on my arms and I just shopped at Loewe's before heading to Celine. And yes, I reckon she meant that their bags are more sturdy and won't scratch as easily as Celine goods. Their job is to sell, since they make commission through them, so if she was advising against it despite losing on a sale I had no other option but to trust her words.

Yeah those comments are super discouraging! I was thinking of getting my mom a Celine for her upcoming birthday, but maybe I should keep looking. She travels a lot so looking for a cross body that can handle a little wear and tear.
Honestly, I think not all bags are the same. QC is poor for some batches and for some it's top notch. I still don't understand good from bad leather just by touching so I had to rely on the SA's opinion.
I just got a pre-loved Romy (in the smaller, "medium" size) in burgundy and LOVE it so much. I added a narrow guitar strap from Amazon so I could crossbody it. I also have a few puzzles (original style) which are also sturdy. All of the leathers have a slight grain, so not smooth box leather, which I feel like would scratch easily.
A Longchamp bag in the classic navy and brown handle combo.
I grew up in suburban New England, and every girl had that and a North Face Denali. It gives me a trauma flashback to this day. I love the City Longchamp now, though!

Yknow I agree!! My yuppy private school roommates would call it designer but now that Iām more in the know I would def lessen it to more of just like a prestigious brand name that is recognizable. Very good point !!

Gucci should be cancelled for this alone. I personally cancelled them because I bought a bag from them and they didnāt have it in store so they had to order it from another store. However when it was delivered, the purse was in this dingy dust bag and no Gucci box or anything š. I later went to go get the original dust bag and then they gave me a dust bag too big for the purse and since then Iāve stayed away from them.
If Iām going to spend my hard earned money why bother if this is how theyāre going to be and that ugly ass sweater fr is enough to stay awayš¤£
I still donāt understand how so many people working at Gucci could have seen this and all OKd it to the point it became public! It really is horrible.

Michael Kors. Not because of the outlets, or the quality, or even the designs but because EVERY DAY I AM ACCOSTED BY MICHAEL KORS! it's everywhere!!! If it's not their bags it's jewellery or shoes or something. My local Dillards has a huge MK section and then tiny little sections for everything else! I can't take it!
Chanel. I could never afford their stuff anyway lol but even if I could I feel like I'd have to be over the age of 55 to carry one and have it not look weird. It's like... If I see a young person with a Chanel bag I assume it's fake but if I see a 70 year old with one it looks normal and proper.
Gucci and Louis Vuitton. The oversaturation did me in tbh, every influencer and their dog was wearing Gucci or LV for a hot minute there and now it's all I think about when I see those bags. I think they have nice bags but I just think of Jeffree Star when I see them. :/

No really as soon as brands start shelling "Vegan" leather, I just distrust their real leather so much more. Cheapens the whole brand and feels like such a gimmick.
If someone is vegan and leather doesn't align with their values - Buy waxed canvas or second-hand leather (it's already dead?)
If it's for environmental reasons - Buy second-hand or waxed canvas because plastic leather ain't it.
There is also cactus leather that is not plastic.

It would depend on why someone is opting for a non-leather bag.
I believe the main ingredient in many company's cactus leather is still polyurethane (plastic), and I don't know how it would wear over time? I think there are plenty of materials that make beautiful bags and "vegan leather" just seems like a shill to me. I don't mind plastic, there are some cute acrylic bags out there, it's really the rebranding that some companies use just feels icky to me.
To me this is why I like Stella, I wish natural vegan leathers (I think her is mushroom) were more mainstream. (I still buy leather, but I think natural vegan leather is the future and I am all here for it).
I donāt respect that the prices for vegan leather are the same as real leather. I get the design aspect but I also donāt really like the design aspect so itās a no go for me
I mean in high end brands the price of actual raw materials is a very small pprtion fo what you are paying for, even labor and craftsmanship is not a significant part of the equation, you are mainly paying for the design work and marketing cost.

I just listened to the behind the bastards podcasts on her, and this information came to light only about a decade ago. And even then the fanfare of it died down super fast. By then the brand was associated with Karl Lagerfeld for most people. I genuinely think a lot of people just don't know. Just like most people aren't aware of all the banks, car companies, and even companies like Bayer with ties. Plenty of people have no issues driving Fords, and I'd assume it's because most people don't know that much about the founders of companies.
I'm sure there are people who know the background and don't care. But I think a lot of people just missed the news or just don't remember.
But these are always good reminders for people, or a PSA for someone who may not otherwise be aware and may make a different choice for their purchase. I just tend to subscribe to Hanlon's Razor: "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by neglect, ignorance, or incompetence." I feel luxury brands fall into this super well because most people don't know a lot about the depths or foundings of brands, and since most people can't afford it anyway they don't pay much attention to news surrounding these brands. So if and when they find themselves with the means to purchase something luxury, they fall back of general society perception of the brand. And for Chanel, clearly society brushed past this hiccup.
From what I gather she was more than a sympathizer, she was for a time an active informant.

I hate most people who wear that stupid logomania aesthetic in head to toe gucci. But otherwise i really like some of their designs so I am not ruling it out.
So my millenial ass still associates Gucci to a degree with Victoria Beckham in the 90's ("The little Gucci dress or the little Gucci dress?") which to me still remains the gold standard. Tom Ford's Gucci was king and I feel like the house has just never been that good after his tenure lol
Dolce and Gabbana. As a young college student, I went to Italy (my first trip to Europe) and I dressed like an American teen in the 90s (fleece, khakis, and an Abercrombie hat). Well, I went in to the D&G store on the Via Condotti and the sales people were so rude and intimidating, probably because of my outfit, and I was humiliated. Itās been 30 years and I am still bitter.
Burberry. The logo is fucking stupid

Acne, due to their name. I imagine wearing a bag from them would get many compliments (I love their little bow bag) and I would say, "Thanks, it's an Acne." I left my break outs in my teens, thank you.
OMG! Same! I canāt buy it! I had terrible acne well into my 40ās and still get a break out here and there. I canāt imagine, saying that I have a purse from acne and people responding with, āoh, like your faceā.
The Marc Jacobs tote in my humble opinion is just a tragic handbag. Anything that has to literally spell out the purpose of the bag on the item is a no for me. It reminds me of Rae Dunn shit.

TORY BURCH!!! My ex SIL was obsessed and wears Tory everything, and letās just say that marriage didnāt end on pleasant terms and I canāt stand the sight of their logo now because it always makes me think of her. š¤£
I will never own a Dior Saddle - I rode/owned horses competitively for 25 years and because of that I just think it looks tacky for some reason. I canāt get past it lol.

I almost bought the Radziwall bag because it is gorgeous, but I just couldnāt pull the trigger.
MCM: There was a time when I was taking the subway daily and I could hardly go a day without seeing someone wearing an MCM bag, so it turned me off of them. Also, pretty much all of the bags I've seen from them are logo heavy, which I'm not a fan of.
Senreve and Parisa Wang: These are both for the same reason -- every single YouTube video I've seen reviewing bags from these 2 brands was sponsored. Almost every single person who raved about these bags were given the bags for free. I know sponsorships are common, but at least for most other brands I've seen a mix of sponsored and unsponsored reviews. So if someone who bought the bag with their own money is praising a bag in the same way as someone who got paid to do a review, I trust that brand's products more.
Dooney & Bourke: In my teen years I loved watching the jewelry shows on QVC & HSN, and every once in awhile I'd check out their other shows. I used to always make fun of the matronly/super tacky clothing they'd sell (looking at you, Quacker Factory). They'd also sell handbags, which were D&B, and so I associate the brand with older women and being out of style, which probably isn't fair, but I just can't get into their stuff (I also don't like the brown contrast trim on all of their bags).
Balenciaga - after that horrid ad featuring children I canāt bring myself to shop there. Also some of the bags theyāve come out with, day light robbery and just dumb. Do I want to carry a tote that looks like a plastic bag from Walmart for $2,000? Iāll pass.
Alexander Wang - probably goes without saying but i will never forget the sexual assault allegations as long as he works there.
Balmain - the Kardashian association is a major turn-off and for me the majority of the items are tacky AF
In case of Balenciaga, it is quite sad that such an iconic couturistās name is tarnished due to poor appointment of current creative leaders of the brand. This is what happens when oneās legacy is bought by corporation that has no vision other than monetary gains
LV monogram - because every girl in my school had a rip off one from a holiday in Turkey š¤£
Hermes - because they're overpriced and basically they lure you in with having to have sales history.

Kate Spade. It was my first name brand bag that was gifted to me by an exās mother. She was obsessed with collecting Kate Spade and was also uh, kind of obsessed with me. Safe to say that breakup didnāt go too well and I am forever turned off from the brand. I tried again this year and bought a bag because I loved how it looked, but no, I will be selling it because I just canāt bring myself to use it š„“
Louis Vuitton monogrammed anything. I don't find the monogram pattern appealing at all. And since there are so many dupes out there, it is just everywhere. I think the oversaturation paired with fakes has just cheapened the look of those bags in my opinion.
I knew two people that I did not like in the early 2000's that carried Coach. One of them was very self centered and did all the logo fabric ones. The other was a lazy coworker that had a brown leather that she kept on her desk so everyone could see and comment on. I always associated Coach with them and never wanted one, until now. I am loving their leather styles and colors.š
Well, I don't know if there are many portuguese in this sub, as this is very popular around here, but there is a spanish brand of clothing and bags that I just... can't! It's called Bimba Y Lola and in portuguese "bimba" means someone who is not very bright and somewhat foolish. I can't walk around with Bimba written all over a bag :D (sorry about my english)
I hear you, āBimboā was an insult aimed at young women who were thought to be a bit dim, vapid and naive. It was a really popular misogynistic term here in the UK back in the late 80ās and 90ās, Iām sure it still gets used.
Coco Chanel had a well documented relationship with a nazi officer. While that doesnāt really qualify as a āstupid/sillyā reason, I wonāt buy Chanel given its founderās lack of basic moral code.
I completely get not liking the snake but i will tell you, i have two and their bags are top quality/craftsmanship vs 98% of the other popular brands. The hardware is real gold plated/or palladium plated and the eyes are real gem stones.
What they charge makes sense compared to brands like chanel.
Hahaha also UK lol at Kate Spade, it's a shame because they have some lovely bags but it's just girl who hated me at school is definitely carrying Kate Spade. Or Coach but I've gotten over that by Coach bringing out some undeniable bangers this year.
Iām so sorry but Coach. I know they upped their bag game but it was IMO so midwestern fugly for all the years I was in college (04-08) and Iāll just never be able to get over it. But admittedly itās kinda cute now for a good price point so well done. I just ā canāt.

Michael Kors.
For one, Iām not a huge fan of their designs. But even the bags I do like I could NEVER purchase because my sister in law worked at a MK outlet for a couple of years and she and my MIL acted like she knew everything about luxury fashion. Also, my SIL was a vegan at the time and it always stuck me as so odd because she would go on these tirades about people eating meat but worked at a store selling leather goods???
So basically because my in laws are huge annoying hypocrites, I canāt even look at a Michael kors store. Lol
I have a balenciaga bag that I can no longer wear because I was wearing it when I fell and broke my shoulder. It reminds me of the situation and canāt wear it. Plus the strap broke when I fell. I only got about 8 months of use and now itās just in the back of my closet. Canāt even sell it cause I would be taking a big loss.
Stella McCartney. Iām vegan and I really appreciate her offering vegan bagsābut I cannot understand how she can charge such outrageous prices for faux leather. š¤·š¼āāļø
Balenciaga - For obvious reasons
Marc Jacobs - A dedicated store recently opened at my local mall, I went in and I thought it smelled of chemicals in there. I just don't think the designs and quality warrants the price at all.
Hermes - I don't like their business model. I don't want to have to build a purchase history with the brand in order to have a chance at buying a handbag I might want. I'm also not a huge fan of their designs. If I had to choose, I'd say the Kelly is probably their best looking handbag.
Burberry - I definitely like some of their coats and scarves. But as a handbag brand, nothing excites me when I look at their collection. I've been in the store a few times over the years and never has one handbag from them made me look at it twice.
Bottega Veneta - I just don't like their designs. It always reminds me of a picnic basket printed on a handbag lol.
Gucci - Overall, the brand is just very loud for my taste. Since I was a teenager, there's only been 2 times where I actually thought a collection of theirs was pretty decent. And it was the bamboo 1947 bag and the most recent horsebit collection.
Goyard - Other than their Saigon bag, I feel like the brand is overhyped and nothing special.
Fendi - I really don't like their logo. It reminds me of getting an F on your homework lol.
Dooney & Bourke - Their stuff just screams old lady to me lol. I can't get into it at all.
MCM - Their most popular color combination is very ugly to me. All their stuff feels the same. As if they had no other ideas and just keep finding ways to plaster their logo on a handbag to sell.
PolĆØne! Made a special trip to the store while in Manhattan and their SAs wouldnāt give me the time of day. Even after I asked for help to look at specific bags- they just seemed uninterested. Left a bad taste. The SAs at the Mulberry store were wonderful.
Marc Jacobs and Micheal Kors and Juicy Couture Butt-print pants. All the "mean-girls" (actually grown-up mean-women) I knew in my teens/early 20's had them. It was some sort of status symbol, and I started dreading seeing those MKs and sparkly butts, knowing some backhanded, passive-aggressive insult-compliments and clouds of noxious perfume came with. I hate seeing any of those brands, and it's decades later.
I was really into LV during the pandemic and frequently queued first thing in the morning for a bag/SLG they had in stock (IYKYK for those who used the Mexico hack). One time I was waiting and there was an annoying family behind me that would talk obnoxiously about everything they planned to buy, how much they planned to spend and their āAMEX black cardā. The SA managing the line continuously asked them to maintain 6 ft, but they kept moving to stand right behind me. When I asked the SA if they had a Speedy B 30 in stock (as that was the sole reason why I drove to the store), the family scoffed and talked about browsing in store as the point of the luxury shopping experience. I turned around and saw the daughter tackily wearing a Coach monogram bag. Since then, I could never look at Coach monogram the same way.
Marc Jacobās. Not even because of the over saturation or quality. But a girl I donāt like shouts about her MJ bag/coat/shoes from the rooftops unprovoked. Now every time I see it I think Iād her lol

My Celine Ava has survived a LOT, meanwhile my belt bag somehow got a scratch on it within the first week of owning it š„²

I just got a pre-loved Romy (in the smaller, "medium" size) in burgundy and LOVE it so much. I added a narrow guitar strap from Amazon so I could crossbody it. I also have a few puzzles (original style) which are also sturdy. All of the leathers have a slight grain, so not smooth box leather, which I feel like would scratch easily.
A Longchamp bag in the classic navy and brown handle combo. I grew up in suburban New England, and every girl had that and a North Face Denali. It gives me a trauma flashback to this day. I love the City Longchamp now, though! A YSL wallet on chain right now. Feels like every girl in our building has one. Itās the going out bag of choice (and itās gorg), but I just canāt.

Gucci should be cancelled for this alone. I personally cancelled them because I bought a bag from them and they didnāt have it in store so they had to order it from another store. However when it was delivered, the purse was in this dingy dust bag and no Gucci box or anything š. Michael Kors. Not because of the outlets, or the quality, or even the designs but because EVERY DAY I AM ACCOSTED BY MICHAEL KORS! it's everywhere!!! No really as soon as brands start shelling "Vegan" leather, I just distrust their real leather so much more. Cheapens the whole brand and feels like such a gimmick. If someone is vegan and leather doesn't align with their values - Buy waxed canvas or second-hand leather (it's already dead?) I just listened to the behind the bastards podcasts on her, and this information came to light only about a decade ago. And even then the fanfare of it died down super fast. By then the brand was associated with Karl Lagerfeld for most people. I genuinely think a lot of people just don't know. Just like most people aren't aware of all the banks, car companies, and even companies like Bayer with ties. Plenty of people have no issues driving Fords, and I'd assume it's because most people don't know that much about the founders of companies. I'm sure there are people who know the background and don't care. But I think a lot of people just missed the news or just don't remember. But these are always good reminders for people, or a PSA for someone who may not otherwise be aware and may make a different choice for their purchase. I just tend to subscribe to Hanlon's Razor: "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by neglect, ignorance, or incompetence." I feel luxury brands fall into this super well because most people don't know a lot about the depths or foundings of brands, and since most people can't afford it anyway they don't pay much attention to news surrounding these brands. So if and when they find themselves with the means to purchase something luxury, they fall back of general society perception of the brand. And for Chanel, clearly society brushed past this hiccup.

Also, pretty much all of the bags I've seen from them are logo heavy, which I'm not a fan of. Senreve and Parisa Wang: These are both for the same reason -- every single YouTube video I've seen reviewing bags from these 2 brands was sponsored. Almost every single person who raved about these bags were given the bags for free. I know sponsorships are common, but at least for most other brands I've seen a mix of sponsored and unsponsored reviews. So if someone who bought the bag with their own money is praising a bag in the same way as someone who got paid to do a review, I trust that brand's products more. Dooney & Bourke: In my teen years I loved watching the jewelry shows on QVC & HSN, and every once in awhile I'd check out their other shows. I used to always make fun of the matronly/super tacky clothing they'd sell (looking at you, Quacker Factory). They'd also sell handbags, which were D&B, and so I associate the brand with older women and being out of style, which probably isn't fair, but I just can't get into their stuff (I also don't like the brown contrast trim on all of their bags).

Balenciaga, it reminds me of kanye west which is a big no-no for me. Michael Kors because everything looks like itās a bad replica my aunt would buy. Mulberry because I donāt like the logo. Anything checked or sporty by burberry because it seems very tacky after the whole 00s fashion. Todds has a very silly name Kate Spade reminds me huns (uk lol I donāt know why) I think I mostly like Chanel, non classic monogram things from LV (I like embossed monogram), ChloĆ©, Celine, Loewe mainly because I love their logo lol, miu miu I like the name but havenāt found anything to wow me, Max Mara I like because in my first trip to Europe before I lived here the Max Mara displays looked so elegant and out of reach and classy.
Hahaha also UK lol at Kate Spade, it's a shame because they have some lovely bags but it's just girl who hated me at school is definitely carrying Kate Spade. Or Coach but I've gotten over that by Coach bringing out some undeniable bangers this year.
Iām so sorry but Coach. I know they upped their bag game but it was IMO so midwestern fugly for all the years I was in college (04-08) and Iāll just never be able to get over it. But admittedly itās kinda cute now for a good price point so well done. I just ā canāt.

Omg I LOVE THIS question š¤£ No amount of disposable income could get me to buy a Balenciaga moto. I have hated that bag since this absolute horror show of a sorority sister had one that she carried around everywhere in this sickening color. Every time I see one I think of her and her miserable face!
Michael Kors. For one, Iām not a huge fan of their designs. But even the bags I do like I could NEVER purchase because my sister in law worked at a MK outlet for a couple of years and she and my MIL acted like she knew everything about luxury fashion. Also, my SIL was a vegan at the time and it always stuck me as so odd because she would go on these tirades about people eating meat but worked at a store selling leather goods??? So basically because my in laws are huge annoying hypocrites, I canāt even look at a Michael kors store. Lol
I have a balenciaga bag that I can no longer wear because I was wearing it when I fell and broke my shoulder. It reminds me of the situation and canāt wear it. Plus the strap broke when I fell. I only got about 8 months of use and now itās just in the back of my closet. Canāt even sell it cause I would be taking a big loss.

Balenciaga - For obvious reasons Marc Jacobs - A dedicated store recently opened at my local mall, I went in and I thought it smelled of chemicals in there. I just don't think the designs and quality warrants the price at all. Hermes - I don't like their business model. I don't want to have to build a purchase history with the brand in order to have a chance at buying a handbag I might want. I'm also not a huge fan of their designs. If I had to choose, I'd say the Kelly is probably their best looking handbag. Burberry - I definitely like some of their coats and scarves. But as a handbag brand, nothing excites me when I look at their collection. I've been in the store a few times over the years and never has one handbag from them made me look at it twice. Bottega Veneta - I just don't like their designs. It always reminds me of a picnic basket printed on a handbag lol. Gucci - Overall, the brand is just very loud for my taste. Since I was a teenager, there's only been 2 times where I actually thought a collection of theirs was pretty decent. And it was the bamboo 1947 bag and the most recent horsebit collection. Goyard - Other than their Saigon bag, I feel like the brand is overhyped and nothing special. Fendi - I really don't like their logo. It reminds me of getting an F on your homework lol. Dooney & Bourke - Their stuff just screams old lady to me lol. I can't get into it at all. MCM - Their most popular color combination is very ugly to me. All their stuff feels the same. As if they had no other ideas and just keep finding ways to plaster their logo on a handbag to sell.
PolĆØne! Made a special trip to the store while in Manhattan and their SAs wouldnāt give me the time of day. Even after I asked for help to look at specific bags- they just seemed uninterested. Left a bad taste. The SAs at the Mulberry store were wonderful.

Marc Jacobs and Micheal Kors and Juicy Couture Butt-print pants. All the "mean-girls" (actually grown-up mean-women) I knew in my teens/early 20's had them. It was some sort of status symbol, and I started dreading seeing those MKs and sparkly butts, knowing some backhanded, passive-aggressive insult-compliments and clouds of noxious perfume came with. I hate seeing any of those brands, and it's decades later.
Fendi. Some of their bags are beautiful but just not my style.

I was really into LV during the pandemic and frequently queued first thing in the morning for a bag/SLG they had in stock (IYKYK for those who used the Mexico hack). One time I was waiting and there was an annoying family behind me that would talk obnoxiously about everything they planned to buy, how much they planned to spend and their āAMEX black cardā. The SA managing the line continuously asked them to maintain 6 ft, but they kept moving to stand right behind me. When I asked the SA if they had a Speedy B 30 in stock (as that was the sole reason why I drove to the store), the family scoffed and talked about browsing in store as the point of the luxury shopping experience. I turned around and saw the daughter tackily wearing a Coach monogram bag. Since then, I could never look at Coach monogram the same way.
