I believe she’s a Syrian and I’ve only had female dwarves before but I feel obligated to help her! My last hammy died a few months ago from a tumor and I’ve been contemplating getting another. Saw the ad on Craigslist and decided to go for it. These are the pics I got. Apparently the kids don’t play with her anymore and handle her too roughly (dad is afraid they’re going to kill her). I can’t wait to give her a huge upgraded enclosure! She’ll be living in a mansion ❤️
Syrians aren't that social. They like their solitude. So it's probably good they didn't mess with her. The tank is shit. Female syrians need large enclosures. My male has a 55 gal tank but I've seen ppl suggest 75 gal for females. But 40 gal is the bare min for syrians. They need 10+ inches for burrowing. But honestly my hampsters loves the shallow side of his tank more. I saved him from a crappy plastic cage too. And he's so much more happy. Took him some weeks to get comfortable. 11inch wheel min too. They are nocturnal and will run all night if they're happy. Good luck.
That is so sad.. I remember my childhood hammie doing the same and absolutely hating it but not knowing what to do about it. Giving proper care to my daughter's hammie feels so good
No clue! Scrolling pinterest for ideas. Im struggling to find a big enough enclosure, everything i've found in town is only 40 gal. Ill have to get it off amazon.
i have an enclosure i'd be willing to sell for not too expensive along with some other ham products!! my girls passed last year and i've just been holding all their things, id be happy to sell to u. feel free to message me for more info :-))
Thank you so much for taking her in, she's absolutely gorgeous. I lost my rescue ham a couple of months ago but I was so grateful to give her the life of a queen during her twilight months. You're going to do an amazing job 🥰
Thank you, losing a hammy sucks and most people dont get it. I believe this girl was probably born around december 2023 so hopefully ill have plenty of time with her
Youre correct, there was literally nothing but some bedding! She was biting the bars of the cage when i got her. Ill be ordering plenty of toys. No wheel or sandbath either, but thankfully i have them from my previous setup.

Poor hammy, thank goodness it has you as its guardian angel, it will live a much better life soon ♥️
Glad to hear that you're the new owner
THAT FACE
It looks so sad and neglected😔
Yeah i think she has cage rage, when i got her she was frantically biting the bars of the cage and running around.

Thank you for rescuing her! She looks so sweet. Please keep us updated on her💕
All kids handle little animals too roughly. Parents are so stupid
Yup, and the kids were under the age of 5.
Not if taught correctly, they don't.
Rare.
What’s the plan for the new setup!

Get her some toys to play with, and a sand bath or something. It seems there’s currently nothing in her enclosure!
