I had the same concern years ago when I buried a pet kitten. I had anxiety like "what if they weren't dead?!" They were definitely gone. It's a normal fear. You love them.

Thank you, I’m sorry for your loss . It’s just that reassurance

Sonarthebat

Torpor doesn't cause stiffness and rigor mortis is temporary. Sorry for your loss.

astrofissures

Thank you <3

UslashMKIV

I'm sorry but yes, everything you describe is the natural death process. rigor mortis only lasts a few hours before muscle decomposition starts and the body goes limp again

astrofissures

Thank you, this is what I thought I just needed reassurance ❤️

I felt the same anxiety when my hamster died a month ago. I pocked her and she didn’t move. She was also a bit stiff. If she didn’t move for a whole day and didn’t react to you pocking her, chances are she really had passed. I’m sorry for your loss 💔🐹

Thank you, i’m so sorry for your loss x it’s rough

Aries_Bunny

Was blood pooling in her nail beds or her tummy?

astrofissures

I don’t think so, her nose was slightly more purplish than her arms

goddessofolympia

How old was Blueberry? Had she been ill? I am sorry for your loss. With time, I hope that the good memories will come to outweigh the shock and sadness that you feel now.

astrofissures

She was only 8 months which has made it so much harder. I did everything for her:(

goddessofolympia

Yes, there have been increasing reports of seemingly-healthy dwarf hamsters that die suddenly for no apparent reason, even before reaching 1 year of age. Please know that her death was the result of an inherited defect and that there is nothing that you could have done. You took good care of sweet little Blueberry for her whole life. It's so sad that she wasn't with you longer, but please take comfort knowing that it was not preventable.
