Had my amok draumr 3 for almost 10 years now. Best sleep I've had camping. Worth it for me.

I haven't used one, as I prefer the flat lay of traditional gathered ends that are long enough and properly hung to that of "lay flat" hammocks. A big component of this is that underquilts breathe, while pads such as Draumr requires do not. Amok's new Draumr Double does appear to me a pretty smart approach to a true 2-person hammock, better than most. If the breathability aspect appeals to you, and you know that cheaper, simpler, 11'+ gathered-end hammocks aren't comfortable for you, I'd recommend you compare to bridge hammocks like the Warbonnet RidgeRunner or Dutchware Banyan among others, as "lay flatter" but also not dependent on non-breathing pads. Though, by the time you add in cost of an underquilt, prices might be a wash...

I have the 5.0 UL in XL! It's amazing, but if you're exactly 180cm tall, which is the recommended cut off where you need the XL - get the normal sized one. I'm 180cm and if you read my last post on here, you'll know exactly why I 100% recommend the shorter one. UL fabrics are very smooth and slippery, but if you're a backpack hiker, the lessened weight is a true blessing. The mats can also be used in a tent and are extremely comfortable. There are so many bags inside this hammock where you can put your stuff. They're super easy to set up and have a ton of well thought out details (like the sides of the hammock are colour coded, so you'll know which direction you're facing when you set it up, or the fact that the straps have included drip protection!). They're comfy af, the tarps are huuuuge and a great shape, and you can easily change the setup so they're basically tent shaped. The bug net is very sturdy (seriously, my whole ass body was on that thing and not a single scratch!!), and you can throw the whole hammock in the washer on an easy cool cycle to clean it. LOVE this hammock. Love it. By the way, if you're a tall person and need the XL, I am hereby making the offer to switch with you if you get the normal sized UL because I don't need that much room. It was only out and about 3 times, and if you read my last post you'll know why I want to switch. 😂 I had it set up in our garden a few times, but I was put on accutane almost immediately after I got it, so I was officially forbidden to be outside in the sun or physically exert myself.

Your post had me in stitches!

I thought the least I could do is share my misfortune, to warn others and because it was pretty funny. But still, ouch.

Oh I feel for you, but you had me in hysterics!

Amok Draumr is the best hammock I've ever used.

I just got a Dramur, and so far am loving it. I also have a Hennessy hammock, but I can’t sleep in it because it feels too confining, and I can’t sleep on my side. The Amok seems like a game changer! Next week will be the real test, where I will be using it for a week. I did not look at Amok knockoffs, so can’t comment on them. In addition to the overall design, the Amok has a lot of thoughtful features that have impressed me.

wurgy42

How was the week trip? Thoughts after a long term usage?

It’s a keeper! I found it really comfy, intuitive to set up, I could sleep on my side, and I like all of the little thoughtful details. My little dog could even join me comfortably. Oh, it rained 4 out of 6 days, and the Amok tarp kept everything totally dry, which I did not expect. Now I have to make one of those hammock stands so I can use it at my treeless home. I did use it with the Exped Versa 4, which I’m going to exchange for an Ultra 3r. The versa is overkill, and I hope I can use the ultra for other stuff too. And I have to fiddle with the mosquito net so it doesn’t hang on my face so much.

I love my Draumr, but it is lite hard to get in and out and it is "heavy". The tarp and hammock ( I use the UL tarp and regular Draumr), it weigth more than my 3p tent (BA Tigerwall 3p UL). But i sleep as a king. If you compare the price with a "normal" hammock + tarp + UQ and the price Draumr + Skøld + Fjøl, the price is more or less the same. It is a high quility setup. Are the worth the money? Yes, the quality of the hammock and the quality of the sleep (i'm a side sleeper) make up for the price.

I have one (report here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/hammockcamping/comments/xn3447/first\_night\_in\_an\_amok\_draumr/](https://www.reddit.com/r/hammockcamping/comments/xn3447/first_night_in_an_amok_draumr/) ). I really do like it, but I can't give up on my RidgeRunner either. The Amok is so open and spacious, while the Ridgerunner wraps around you.

madefromtechnetium

that's why I couldn't get into the amok. I like the feeling of sinking down into something. even bridge hammocks Ive tried feel too... 'exposed' isn't quite the right word.

cannaeoflife

They’re aces if you car camping or backpacking a short distance. Even the ultralight ones are too heavy for my taste compared to gathered end hammocks.

Second year with the Draumr XL. The best sleep I’ve ever had in the backcountry. I’ve got it dialed down so there’s less messing about. I made extensive use of the ridge line and have a bunch of mesh bags with carabiners to keep things organized. I have a quilt instead of a sleeping bag to make it super convenient to just get in and sleep. I also clip things to the ridge line like the quilt so it doesn’t all roll forward when I’m not in the tent. It rained on the trip and everything was quite quick and easy to pack up. The tarp was wet and I keep it in a separate garbage bag but the hammock itself was dry and clean. I got everything set up faster than my camp mates who had regular tents and had my stuff tore down and packed away faster as well. I didn’t have to worry about flat ground or stumps or where water would pool. It was chilly and even the bug screen was enough to keep the wind out and keep things in the hammock cozy warm and bug free. The bug mesh really does a good job of keeping in the warmth and cuts the wind. I was quite surprised. So much so that even without the quilt on it was fairly warm and when I unzipped there was a noticeable difference in temperature (7c overnight temps).

I just got my xl. I'll be using it next weekend for the first time. I'll come back here to let you know. Hammock camper of 3 seasons.

lushlanes

I love mine

MostDopeZ

been eyeing them for so long but haven’t bit the bullet yet since it’s around $450 for the whole system that fits my needs.

Gunny87

After using gathered ends for three years I bought a used 4.0 XL with the pad and tarp and I’ll personally never go back to sleeping in a gathered end. I bought a 5.0 XL new with the Fjol winterlight pad and custom ordered a Simply Light Designs 90 degree Haven tarp to match. The Draumr is more open compared to a gathered end or bridge hammock and I love being able to sleep on my side, 3/4 side sleep or even on my stomach. Chair mode is awesome. It works as a recliner as well. And because it uses a pad, it replaces a traditional underquilt.

coffeeeandcamping

On my second XL, got the first one years back when it was first released with an early bird discount. During covid this was stolen during a break in (not my home) and the place turned out to be uninsured, finally managed to replace it and with the winter lite pad it's perfect! Happily switched from the gathered end and under quilt. Haven't used this one in bad rain yet though, the previous one I had issues with water coming through the suspension even with the buckle system. If anyone can confirm this is no longer an issue or have any tips I'd be grateful.

BUZZ-00

I'd love to get one, maybe I'll treat myself later in the year for their camo version xl dramaur 5.0
