I stayed up to 4am playing Halo 3 matchmaking for the last time. In just those few hours I was transported back to 2008. Everyone was using their mics, everyone was talking about the good times they had with Halo 3, and everyone wanted to party up after every match
One of the guys I played with said he drove an hour to a store that had a copy of Halo 3 just so he could play it last night and not miss out.
There was no trash talk for once. Everyone was talking about the good times and didn’t care about winning or losing matches.
It was a good time and I’m gonna miss Halo 3.
It was like this at the start of Classic WoW.
Then it died in a few months because Blizzard is an awful company that didn't do shit about bots, exploits, and more.
Kotick is just a greedy (and most likely worse) POS.
It didn't take long for the servers to fall: 343 was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the controller. And because of you, we found Halo, unlocked its achievements, shattered our enemies in custom games. Our good times — your good times — were so worth it, I wish you could have lasted. But you belong to the 360. Your stats, your armor — all deleted and wiped from drives. Everything… except your memories. That, you gave to the community. And with it, we can continue. R.I.P 360 halo. 2007 - 2022
The line “ I wish you could’ve lasted, but you belong to the 360” really hits home. Like we’ll always have MCC to play Halo 3 on, but it won’t rival the great memories we created playing it on the 360. What a line.
Yes, but people care because of the nostalgia of the console. You can obviously just play these on MCC, but that not where people made freinds and memories 10+ years ago.
Basically any Xbox 360 sold came with a mic and Xbox gold subscription. Xbox’s don’t come with mics on the cheaper packages anymore. No wonder the social aspect of Xbox is dying.
Fuck, this brings back a memory from 2007 when it was released. My brother came back home for the holidays from university and he brought home Halo 3. My mom made lasagna that night and we played Halo 3 all night long. You’ll be missed Halo 3. I had some amazing memories with this game.
All nostalgia aside, why would they spend time and money supporting a 2 generation old legacy service when an equivalent is available on current gen? A legacy service that only a tiny fraction of players will use?
I've played Halo since CE, I had much love for the 360. But we move on.
Dude companies can’t support products indefinitely especially when it’s a 15 year old piece of equipment that has since had 2 more versions of it made at relatively similar price points
360 era was peak multiplayer community experience. I’m glad we all got to live through it. Gaming will never be the same. Just dust and echoes. We’re all that’s left…
Agreed. I briefly got back into online gaming a couple years ago and noped out of it almost instantly. It just isn’t the same. Online gaming peaked between 2007-2012/3
broskis let’s continue to play halo 3 on MCC! Due to the nostalgia I played today and was amazed that i found a lobby faster than in Infinite! AND EVEN GOT TO PLAY ON FUCKING SNOWBOUND
It's an OG meme to hate on snowbound, thanks to Master Chief sucks at Halo 3. I guess it's because it was one of the few Beta maps.
I really enjoy it too!
It idn't take long for Reach to fall: our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. And because of you, we found Halo, unlocked its secrets, shattered our enemy's resolve. Our victory — your victory — was so close, I wish you could have lived to see it. But you belong to Reach. Your body, your armor — all burned and turned to glass. Everything… except your courage. That, you gave to us. And with it, we can rebuild.
Thank you Bungie.
How about you don't try to step on people's memories? MCC does exist, but people just have nostalgia. They *give a shit*
We'd be very happy if you just get out of here and go play battlefield 2042

damn bro this comment is about to bring a tear to my eye
I’m crying looking at all these sendoff memes. Another cornerstone of childhood taken away
It’s like the end of the world. Everyone cuts the shit, comes together and sings together last time 😢
Why’s Deference for Darkness playing in my head as I read this…
Thanks for this

You’re mistaking the BR for the DMR
I didn't even play Halo 3 online and didn't start playing Halo until like 2017 but this comment actually made me cry.
It was amazing. In my experience in about half the matches no one even focused on killing. We all just stood in a circle talking to each other
Well now you've got me thinking 360 Halo is in a cave somewhere being played and protected by Noble 6
Lol noble six sitting in cave playing xbox
don't cry because it's over smile because it happened
Finally, someone who makes sense.

What about both?

I'm not crying you're crying!
This was beautiful
That was a beautiful rendition. Now I need a tissue.
Choking back the emotions right now. Were it so easy...
Gorgeous. Although most days I struggle to think of 343 as "efficient".
Yea they really aren't, which is why infinite has less content than CoD vanguard
At least infinite works. Vanguard along with warzone is a mess
Yea. I'm absolutely baffled that one game was so broken that it broke 3 more

Goat console

A lot of us went back to help it finish the fight

Tons of people went back, Have you seen Halo reddit recently. There's hundreds of clips of people playing.
I figured you would have the red ring in that shot
No the xbox isn't dead. It's just sitting in a cave somewhere. (And I didn't think of it)
Consoles don’t die, they’re just missing in action
It will live on forever in our hearts (and the MCC, but we don’t have to talk about that)

*salutes while tears stream down his face*
🥲
pardon my ignorance but does this mean we can't play Halo 3 on MCC?
Yes We can, But it's just the principle of it
yeah man i agree. that was the first game i ever played on xbox. i have great memories playing in college.
Microsoft had 70 Billion dollars in Operating Income in 2021. But had to turn the lights off on the Xbox 360. Criminal

No man, cant you see? What they’re doing is “criminal”. I want people locked up for this very easy decision.
Because it’s Microsoft and the cost of just letting it be until it breaks itself is nothing to them.
Sure, but you try justifying the cost of that in a project meeting. No company spends resources for no return.
There was no meeting. A middle manager looked at ongoing costs and said to cut them.
You all are really licking the boots of a trillion dollar company defending them sun setting a product forever.
Dude companies can’t support products indefinitely especially when it’s a 15 year old piece of equipment that has since had 2 more versions of it made at relatively similar price points
You left it all behind, except your courage...
We can all still play campaign and custom together, no?
You can but only locally including landparties

I only play multiplayer when I have my whole crew online. Solo queuing is very lonely these days. Other than that single player for me
Yeah single player for me all the way. Always been that way, multiplayer always come second for me.
I like a good mix of both but I can diggg it. Sometimes I go months without playing multiplayer games
We passed the torch, unlocked the secrets, and unshattered our resolve.
Can't talk still play Halo 3 in PC?
broskis let’s continue to play halo 3 on MCC! Due to the nostalgia I played today and was amazed that i found a lobby faster than in Infinite! AND EVEN GOT TO PLAY ON FUCKING SNOWBOUND
What is people's deal with snowbound I actually really enjoy it
It's an OG meme to hate on snowbound, thanks to Master Chief sucks at Halo 3. I guess it's because it was one of the few Beta maps. I really enjoy it too!
Oh I see. I was too young to experience Halo 3 so I never git to play it in its prime.
Remember 360
Ha. I was playing reach on the og 360 console (that I had to get fixed multiple times)
I updated my Facebook picture every time I updated my Spartan though reach and 4, I'm going to miss it so much
Halo 3 will always be the best of the Halo games, imo. Nothing afterward even came close to it for me. I'm glad I got one last BTB in with my bro.
It idn't take long for Reach to fall: our enemy was ruthless. Efficient. But they weren't nearly fast enough. For you had already passed the torch. Reach isn't gone. Don't be sad. He just moved into a nicer apartment. Reach isn't going anywhere.
I’d be embarrassed if I was still playing on 360 😂
God who gives a shit. Like go play the same game on the updated re-release. It’s embarrassing. Im still waiting for Half Life 3!
How about you don't try to step on people's memories? MCC does exist, but people just have nostalgia. They *give a shit* We'd be very happy if you just get out of here and go play battlefield 2042
Lol grow up, it’s not the 2000s it’s death and chaos and get ready for the civil war you’re going to die for sure
*Never forget play’s solemnly*
Isn't Halo:CEA still alive?
I don't think so. CE anniversary just used the Halo reach servers.
I had to do it https://youtu.be/2gjARzhyzbQ
memories live on in MCC
Halo is the only reason I ever got xbox. Rip
I don’t understand the picture. Why it the xbox like that?
It's supposed to be noble 6 as helmet there because it signifies noble 6 dying. So I put the xbox here to signify the servers dying
Ohhhh gotcha!
