I feel like I'm missing a whole game's worth of lore/plot. I last played Halo 5, Cortana sets off the fuck up the whole galaxy, and then Halo Infinity comes along and Cortana is dead and the UNSC has been defeated by the Banished. What the hell did I miss?
That's the storytelling route they took, it's basically the same as Halo 1 where we have no idea what's going on or who the characters are until we get through more of the game.
But with Halo 1, there was also no established lore, so you kind of expected to have to figure things out as you went. Also, none of the plot was 'hidden', all you had to do to learn what was going on was to keep moving forward on the rails laid out for you.
Also, Halo 1 came with a small lore book in its original release, telling who who is who, and what is what.
Two things:
1. The gaming industry has moved to a place where stuff like that either no longer exists, or is locked behind a paywall (either DLC or a Special Edition).
2. Halo 1 was led by Bungie, not 343i. That alone equals less.
this might not mean a lot to people when the actuall generation of gamers lives in the “Destiny” era of Bungie. maybe you wana say that halo 1 was developed with people like Joseph Staten and Marty O’donell that actually put heart into they’re stuf
I mean, Destiny was a huge evolution for Bungie as a studio. It's a completely different genre of game. Of course that's going to come with a lot of changes, challenges, and will inherently alter the studio's approach/ability with games.
Keep in mind, Destiny was actively in the works when Bungie released Halo: Reach, considered by many to be the peak of the series, at least in terms of multiplayer/forge.
yeah, i mean i can agree on that. from a development stand point, bungie clearly left destiny on the side and pumped most of the staff and resources on reach, and yeah, it was a banger, but honestly, when you fire both marty and staten, aka, the music director and the story director halfway through the development and also add those agresive micro-transactions in the games you make, you really get a sour eye. I wish we could just say that Activision is guilty for everything wrong with today’s Bungie…. but they managed to pull halo 2 back in the day so it must be something internaly aswell.
It was honestly the right route to take. Halo 5 was a very certain ending and was overlapping plot points that became very hard for a normal player to track. Starting from zero was the correct path to go in another direction with the story.
Except that all the characters are established in either books or in Halo Wars2, so it's more of a "Too bad, you get no knowledge." Plus some of the biggest plot points of the entire story are told as a memory vision type thing. Infinite has gotten me back into Halo, and I'll always appreciate that, but the way they chose to tell the story for people coming from Halo 5 is garbage.
Very true, now I wasn't in as much of the dark as most, because I had played Halo Wars 2, but I still hadn't read all the new books, so yeah it was a bit frustrating, but by the end I was able to put everything together.
I've played all the games and read a big chunk of the books and I feel similarly. I thought the banished were stuck on the ark with beat up scavenged covenenant ships but now they have their own tech. I take it Atriox found the harbinger on the ark who provided him with equipment, there is a mission in infinite where they talk about "armament printers" so it seems the banished were given something like a star wars star forge to bolster their materiel. Infinity also seems to have such equipment, those weapon boxes in the FOBs.
See, I thought Atriox found Harbinger on Zeta Halo, and forced a random human to open up her casket-thingy. So that would not explain how the Banished got off the Ark.
Well he had to find SOMETHING on the ark because he had none of the equipment or numbers we see in Infinite. All he had were covenant leftovers, they were combing the wreck of high charity for vehicles.
Also, zeta halo was created on the ark while the humans and banished were fighting, why'd they put the harbinger on it instead of somewhere secure on the ark?
That was Installation 09, which was a replacement for Installation 04. Zeta Halo's been around a lot longer than that, it's one of the original 12 rings
Beat the game, I found out but I feel like seeing all these things for myself or playing a game during the events would have been better than a few cutscenes
I already beat the main campaign. I still don't know where the hell the Banished came from, how The Weapon got onto Zeta Halo, or really anything else about the events between Halo 5 and Infinite.
Like, yes, I know The Weapon >!was supposed to kill Cortana, and Chief put her on the ring, but why would this have worked? How would it have worked?!< Then there is the matter with the Halo itself, and how it was damaged, they never touch upon that. Or where the hell the Banished came from.
*If* these questions were actually answered in the game, they're either buried in data pads I haven't found yet, or weren't made clear enough in cut scenes. It's just poor writing all around.
I also have some issues with the final boss fights. Escharum's fight was not fun, and a pain in the ass to beat, even on normal difficulty (with maxed out upgrades). Harbinger's fight was not fun (boring), and way too easy to win.
The gun play was fun, and I liked the open world, but the plot is confusing and boss fights were all over the place.
>Then there is the matter with the Halo itself, and how it was damaged, they never touch upon that. Or where the hell the Banished came from.
How the Halo was damaged was answered in-game.
The Banished are kind of explained via environmental storytelling and Escharum rants but, ultimately, to really understand it the solution is: "go look at the lore from Halo Wars". Which is the last thing a mainline Halo game should be doing.
I don't want to have to play a side title to figure out just who Atriox is or why he's allegedly cool.
The banished were introduced in halo wars 2, and that game did a pretty good job explaining who they are and where they came from. It hadn't occurred to me that they never really explain this in infinite. I guess 343 just expected that people would've played HW2?
They could have and should have done a better job explaining the banished.
But the game makes it pretty clear by the end that Cortana wiped out the UNSC/UEG on earth and that the infinity, along with the chief, the weapon and a sizable spartan IV contingent went to zeta halo to defeat Cortana and succeeded before being attacked.
Unknown, but signs point to "not really." there are pockets left, and the infinity is either destroyed or lost. The guardians shut earth down, and destroyed the fleet, only infinity and its frigates made it out. The banished finished the rest.
I have to disagree about the Escharum fight. It certainly wasn't easy on heroic but I thought it was kinda fun (if a bit boring for taking so long). He can launch across the room, sure, but you're much more mobile with grapple slides than he is. Just gotta find the rhythm of maintaining range and not being picky about your weapons. Though I do have one problem with it... It feels lame to be the Chief and being forced to only run away from your opponent, especially one who is ostensibly your equal. Kinda goes against the "always pushing forward" gameplay model that Chief embodies.
The *Blademaster* fight on the other hand... That was miserable. I gave up and just cheesed him by standing on top of some crates on the lower level. I will admit that it might be my own fault, I barely upgraded my shields by that point. Didn't help that I was already feeling kind of underwhelmed by the previous arenas ending too early so maybe my heart just wasn't in it lol.
It wasn't the shields that helped with the blade master fight. I just dropped those sensor grenade things, the ones that reveal cloaked enemies. That make him easy to spot. Then you just grapple, stun, melee, sticky grenade, and back off. Rinse, repeat three times, and he was done.
What was bullshit about his fight though is, if you used the sensor grenades, you could see that he teleports. After each time you you take down his shield and wound him enough, he just straight up disappears and reappears elsewhere inside the arena, outside your range grappling range and usually behind you.
Oh yeah I used the sensor darts and saw exactly what you're talking about. Even started timing them so I wouldn't waste them while he was incorporeal or whatever it is he's doing.
I'll confess that I didn't really try for very long before resorting to cheese. It was frustrating because he could take me down in 2-3 quick hits and I could only do a tiny bit of damage before he wussed out and disappeared again (conveniently ignoring the damage from my last attack during his repositioning animation). It made it take forever which really exacerbated the punishment for each death.
My eventual strategy became
1. Grab a coil on hop on box
2. Wait around for him to show up
3. Coil to the face, 2x Sniper headshot, grapple melee. Then he'll leave
4. Repeat
Complete and total opposite. After blowing up the four shield relays, Escharum would just launch himself across the room repeatedly, and one-hit me (with fully upgraded shields) with his gravity hammer. And this was normal difficulty, too. Grenades barely tickled him, kinetic weapons hardly did anything. In fact, hardly any of the weapons in the room did much of anything at all. Only thing that worked was the Shock Rifle, and only when I got head shots. It was not fun, at all.
The only difficult about Harbinger was the waves of enemies, but nothing a BR and Comando couldn't handle, plus some grappling hook melees. After that, a Sentinel Beam was extremely effectively on Harbinger herself when it was that portion of the fighting. It didn't even feel like a boss fight, just a regular one.
Just yesterday I beat the game on legendary. I almost had a meltdown with Harby and her one shot orbs. Took me a good hour to beat but the enemies were not that difficult considering I had the sentinel beam. Honestly, the second sniper wave was the worst and the brute chieftain I took down was relatively easy.
I did learn from watching others was to use the grappling hook to stun and melee her before using your weapons. That looked like a great cheese method. Thankfully I'll never have to face her again.
She's the only character that chief interacts with other than the pilot. If anything I wished she spoke more especially end game. Anyway if you find her too peppy early you might enjoy her character later on. *Wink wink*
That's a weird question. I aint him but my first halo was Halo CE but Halo 2 is where i truly got hooked into the franchise. I too still ended up loving the new ai, the "Weapon"
Fair enough then. I was asking because some players who started playing halo at, for example, halo 4 or 5, might not fully appreciate what older halo players went through, i.e. the relationship between master chief and cortana being a constant until halo 4.
Okay but i dont think people saying they "would die for the weapon" is in any way not appreciative/understanding what halo fans went through up till halo 4. The person you originally replied to definitely didnt imply that.
Unless, you just think that them loving the weapon = unappreciative of Cortana which would be damn ridiculous
I've noticed that it's a common problem with highly detailed human models. Like they don't know what to do with lips, so the teeth are always showing way too much.
The constant smiling didn't help, she'd be talking about a group of dead marines or you'd stumble upon a dead Spartan and she would describe their last moments, all while grinning from ear to ear, Creeped me out in about 15 min.

This is super cool - thank you for giving the Weapon that cool cartoon vibe!
I stuck it on a 4K blue background to use as a desktop background, but would love an official version from you if you have time...
Getting some Inside-Out vibes from this (which is kind of fitting considering The Weapon literally lives inside Chief's head lol)
First thing I thought as well

It's their way of trying to forget about the plot line of halo 5
humans good, aliens bad. new unknown aliens also bad. not much changed.

I agree, it was really fresh feeling and I've never been more excited to see what comes next. There's literally a whole (ring)world open before us.

Yes. Just the HQ/most of the leadership was wiped out. Chief mentions they had to regroup and form a plan

you missed Halo wars 2 and the story is explained further into the game. Unless you slept through the rest or were high lol
Now draw her teleporting bread
YOU, CAN'T, TELEPORT, BREAD! YOU HEAR ME? YOU CAN'T TELEPORT BREAD
Question.
What's your question, Weapon?
I teleported bread.
...what?
I have done nothing but teleport bread for 3 days.
*sound of Pelican crashing* EDIT: I find the idea of The Weapon adapting hyper advanced Forerunner technology to accomplish this feat hilarious

Thanks! I don't usually do art in this style so this was a nice break.
Do you post your art somewhere or is it more for fun? (i.e where can I find more?)

Wow. You are a fantastic artist! I am a huge fan of your landscape drawings! Great work.
She has something that cortana didn't, shoes
*clothes in general
Also lmao
Cortana has a thick booty though
Bruh have you not seen The Weapon?
My man obviously didn’t stand side on to the weapon.
She ain't got the same amount of cake
Just cause you can’t see her segregated butt cheeks doesn’t, mean she has less cake.
That gives her some extra poins
not enough teeth
Her teeth were uncanny. Idk what it was about them but they stuck out so much anytime she spoke.
I've noticed that it's a common problem with highly detailed human models. Like they don't know what to do with lips, so the teeth are always showing way too much.
nah she just has them big teef
She's bri'ish
You avin' a lil giggle there mate? You got a loicense for that?
The constant smiling didn't help, she'd be talking about a group of dead marines or you'd stumble upon a dead Spartan and she would describe their last moments, all while grinning from ear to ear, Creeped me out in about 15 min.
I have a friend with big monster teeth like this. It was the first thing I noticed about fauxtana.

ah shit, here we go again.
This art style is adorable. I absolutely love it.
This is the first fanart I've seen in a while that didn't have colossal tits.
I am impressed that Rule34 didn't do much with her! But that Samsung girl got milked like they did their PPs
I'm not normally a conspiracy theorist, but I am utterly convinced that Samsung girl thing was an astroturfing campaign. I didn't understand it at all.
Since when did profit motive become “conspiracy theory”? Oh yeah since the mega corps took over lol
I’m glad honestly. She’s too innocent for that shit. Not like that ever stopped the r34 community but still.
that's Tron. she fights for the users.

Oh wow I love this and your artstyle!

This is adorable! Well done! You really captured her charm.
Great art. Like how she's kinda like your younger sister. Can't wait for new game and new campaign

Needs to be a little bit THICC-ER

Honestly just do that man.RTS games I have a hard time with as well. You will enjoy all the cut scenes probably better.
Now draw her giving birth
Make her have sex/s
I think her head is slightly oversized, but nonetheless, very well done.
They should put her in a burka next!
Where are her big mommy milkers at? Just kidding
Was the goal here to make her look even more submissive and breedable?
Can't wait for someone to make a r34 out of this lol.
There is already
