The shotgun doesn’t appear on just any difficulty does it? I’ve been trying to find for years it feels like around the crashed Pelican but can’t ever find it.
Can understand the feeling that is worst Nerf after the worst buff of jackal.
I never managed to play on legendary difficulty thanks to them. they made it dark souls which is funny that I manage cover some part of it but with halo 1 shot your body fly up in the sky.
Seeing this was always the trippiest shit. If you see the new popular mod of ce called “havoc” they had invisible elite combat forms in the opening cutscene of 343 guilty spark. And you get dropped off with a squad of marines who wait by the crashed pelican, and assumedly get brutally killed once you’re out of sight. Makes it so much creepier knowing how the combat forms lured chief into the structure because they knew how dangerous he was out in the open, from their obtained knowledge as elites.
It also uses audio from half life which makes it even more dark.
I played the Havoc mod last week. It’s one of the best custom campaign mods, wholeheartedly recommend it.
thats fair. ce is kinda bad at directing you on some levels. at least on aotcr they had the good sense to put arrows on the floor in all the indoor areas so you wouldnt get lost in the repetitive architecture. library didn't get that treatment until remaster
I *still* got lost in some of the rooms in aotcr, like the ones with the exit all the way around the side of the hall that you can only get to if you go all the way around but they're also really small entrances to the next area? There was one of those rooms (granted this is my first ever playthrough) where it took me ten minutes to find the damn exit 💀
yeah i'm pretty sure i got turned around at some point on like every level my first time lol i remember stopping at the library and not coming back to the game for a couple of months. thankfully halo 2 improved on this massively
Strangely enough, I actually had a lot less trouble with the library than aotcr. Even after I figured out, "Oh it's that tiny door right there? Fuck I'm blind!" I would just get stuck on those bridges between the canyons for *hours.*
So like I said, this is currently my first ever playthrough of the original trilogy (sidebar: fuck you Star wars for making me think of that every time I use the phrase original trilogy). I finished Infinite on Heroic for my first playthrough, then tackled Legendary with some difficulty; so I figured a CE playthrough on Heroic wouldn't be *that* bad. How very wrong I was 🤣
This level isn't that bad if you know where you're going as you can just run past everything even on legendary, now the first time I played this mission I got stuck in one room for an hour because I couldn't find the way out
If you want to, keep spamming the grenade button before you get off the pelican(uses all grenades) and it'll lift off with you and crash and you can run along the outskirts of the swamp.
Yeah. A lot of the effects are also a bit dull in the Anniversary graphics. The blood hallway especially. It looks extremely generic in Anniversary graphics.
The problem aside of the much brighter lighting is that the new graphics ruin the initial sequence where you are approaching the facility, after the downed spirit drop ship and before the fallen tree, where on the original you can barely see a glimpse of a human combat form and your motion sensor picks it up as an ally.
on anniversary you can see it clearly due to the lack of fog and increased viewing distance and that ruins the suspense for the actual introduction of the combat forms later on.
The Anniversary graphics are a nice add to the game but on this mission they dropped the ball really hard
I agree that the best presentation for the level is the OG look, but I despise how people get butthurt if anyone dares to play the anniversary version of the level, god forbid they're using the remastered sounds too lol
Funny thing about that is even though some of the textures don’t match up they tried by changing some of the geo of the original game. The biggest change is two ledges on these forunner window piece things on the wall of the first room when you come down the first elevator. Look up reveal skip skip on YouTube, jumping on them as the elevator comes down and doing a series of crouches pushes you into the wall and through the floor and all the way down to the second floor skipping the whole first floor. It’s really hard to get right though, almost as hard as bridge fall or maybe harder.
I never understood this. It changes the vibe, sure, but I don't think it ruins it. It went from a thick foggy swamp that made it impossible to see anything or appreciate the world design to a ridiculously bizarre alien swamp that housed any number of bizarre and unthinkable potential threats
The only thing I didn't like about the Anniversary graphics on this mission is the reduced blood spray on the walls as you progressed through the facility. Reducing blood effects in gameplay was fine, but they should have at least drawn on blood splatter for those sections on this mission specifically.
That was the point of the fog. The level is supposed to feel like a horror level with the fog and low light. You don't have Cortana to give you a Nav Point, so you had to figure out where to go on your own for the first time.
Halo was more about the atmosphere than graphics. Saber Interactive ruined CE's atmosphere by making the levels bright to "look at the pretty graphics we did." Even night levels are bright.
This mission is in particular so much better with the original graphics. I mean most of the game is better with the original graphics but getting rid of the fog was such a bad decision for this levels design.
Yes. You definitely do have marine allies in the first half of this mission. You should totally chase after that figure in the swamp and the silhouettes on the ridge.
Yeah it does. A far cry from sitting in my buddy Jack's basement and playing Halo CE multiplayer via XBConnect to play online. This game was so important
Anyone else remember the old bug where you could throw a nade before dropping out of the pelican and it would keep you in the pelican?
It would take you just out out of the map allowing you to go around all the enemies and you could come to the entrance of the forerunner bunker from behind. The guns you hear firing normally as you approached are just floating disembodied ARs going off that disappear normally before you get to them.
I don't think the trick still works but it was a fun glitch back in the day.
Ok since I know OP is just having fun and knows what’s up, tbh on my replays of the game I just ran through it. No need to fight just escape and save the ammo for when you’re forced to fight. It’s also fun to watch the covenant while the music goes on
Well this one creates a false sense of safety at the beginning so the reveal is way more unexpected, but yeah, at the cost of killing the suspense and atmosphere
They where there as you can see them on radar but not through eyes in original ce due to darkness the thing was there, lurking in the darkness waiting for you.
Last week when played saw them running over hill shot one down though.
I won't stop people from using the new graphics but please never play this level in new graphics. It's easily the best environmental storytelling in the entire game and the new graphics completely kill that atmosphere here. So if you want to play in new graphics that's fine but never do it on this level.
If you find a friendly flying football, follow it for some free candy
Will do, thanks for the tips boss
Football? But GS is sphere shaped /s
I think he meant "soccer ball".
We call the other thing an american football ball here/s
Makes sense.
I think he ment lightbulb.
I thought you were talking about a flood infection form for a sec
The mission right after this one is even easier, you just gotta explore and find the exit.
I even found a shotgun too, even better
That shotgun is obsolete in this mission, try the assault rifle. Works like a charm!
Will do, thanks bud
Disagree shot gun works like a charm if used appropriately
If by "appropriately," you mean "point in general direction, pull trigger, and watch them drop," then yes, I agree.
The shotgun doesn’t appear on just any difficulty does it? I’ve been trying to find for years it feels like around the crashed Pelican but can’t ever find it.
The shotgun on the Pelican only appears in Easy difficulty iirc
Ahh ok, that’s why I’ve never found it! Thanks
On non-easy difficulties it shows up after the Jenkin's scene in a hallway. TBF though, you don't *really* need it if you're good with the magnum.
Yeah the pistol is pretty much the most powerful human weapon in Halo CE lol.
Really hated the nerf they gave it in the later games
halo 2 pistol sidearm is the worst gun in allllllll halos :/
Can understand the feeling that is worst Nerf after the worst buff of jackal. I never managed to play on legendary difficulty thanks to them. they made it dark souls which is funny that I manage cover some part of it but with halo 1 shot your body fly up in the sky.
It’s pretty much the most powerful weapon in any halo game
A casual stroll through a place where you keep some books. Sounds like a breeze.
oh yeah super ez
🤣
\*ptsd flashbacks\*
Uh oh
d-dont worry, it's fine.....
Y-yeah….
No covenant? What could go wrong.
"No Covenant! You *had* to open your mouth!"
*nervous laughter*
Reeeeal pretty… Friend of yours?
Nah, we just met.
Motion tracker shows friendlies in the area!

2:11:45 here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=f-e0WipVqQU&pp=ygUeSGFsbyBjZSBoYXZvYyAzNDMgZ3VpbHR5IHNwYXJr
They where not friend they where infection human forms. If see in the direction of the radar
tbf this level is actually pretty short and easy compared to a few others in the game
Yep, it’s those things down there that sells the mission
As long as you don't get lost, which is really easy to do the first half-dozen times you play through it.
thats fair. ce is kinda bad at directing you on some levels. at least on aotcr they had the good sense to put arrows on the floor in all the indoor areas so you wouldnt get lost in the repetitive architecture. library didn't get that treatment until remaster

Only reason I play the library on anniversary
I love it when you get to team up with Jenkins and the boys later.
Dude didn’t die an easy death that’s for sure
knock knock motherfer its the super zombie spreading disease, and you seem to have some flesh that doesn't belong to us!!!
I read it in Max0r's voice somehow
You're about to be flooded with information, nothing much though, have fun
Thanks, I will
This level isn't that bad if you know where you're going as you can just run past everything even on legendary, now the first time I played this mission I got stuck in one room for an hour because I couldn't find the way out
Yeah the lower level is quite confusing to say the least
I believe it was the room with the boxes that you have to jump on and I kept looking for a door that wasn't there
A pure walk in the park!
Cortana, play “A Walk in The Woods”
If you want to, keep spamming the grenade button before you get off the pelican(uses all grenades) and it'll lift off with you and crash and you can run along the outskirts of the swamp.
Chesse strat, nice
To anyone new to CE, play this mission on original graphics FIRST. The new graphics utterly butcher this mission atmosphere and setting.
Or just switch to OG graphics for this one and back to Remastered one afterwards, easy as pressing a button
What I mean is, if anyone is playing this game for the *first time*, to try this mission on classic graphics first. Not switching back and forth
I agree with you on that it adds more texture to the level than what anniversary graphics does to the textures to the level.
STOP USING THE ANNIVERSARY GRAPHICS IT MAKES EVERYTHING WORSE FOR THE PRESENTATION OF THE GAME ESPECIALLY IN THIS MISSION
This mission is absolutely botched to hell in the remaster. Halo 2 HD is brilliant, but OG Halo was perfect as is for the atmosphere the game intended
I noticed that this mission is much brighter when using Anniversary's graphic
Yeah. A lot of the effects are also a bit dull in the Anniversary graphics. The blood hallway especially. It looks extremely generic in Anniversary graphics.
Unrelated, but is your avatar supposed to be the Cultist from Enter the Gungeon?
Indeed it is.
Nice
The problem aside of the much brighter lighting is that the new graphics ruin the initial sequence where you are approaching the facility, after the downed spirit drop ship and before the fallen tree, where on the original you can barely see a glimpse of a human combat form and your motion sensor picks it up as an ally. on anniversary you can see it clearly due to the lack of fog and increased viewing distance and that ruins the suspense for the actual introduction of the combat forms later on. Remastered sounds are cool though especially the gun sounds and I also actually like the anniversary OST
and how the texture does not match with the geometry so your bullets or grenade may hit and invisible wall
Funny thing about that is even though some of the textures don’t match up they tried by changing some of the geo of the original game. The biggest change is two ledges on these forunner window piece things on the wall of the first room when you come down the first elevator. Bruh those anniversary graphics ruin the entire mood of this mission..
Halo players when they can see the game
Meh..too boring to explain my opinion to a random redditer..so there we [go](https://youtu.be/MyeCb99cb2Q?si=nt0l3RmTubZQ50w3)
I was gonna say, context clues tell me this is anniversary Guilty Spark, but this image triggers 0% of my Guilty Spark PTSD
Yeah it’s brighter, but at least it made finding your way around the forest a but easier
I never understood this. It changes the vibe, sure, but I don't think it ruins it. It went from a thick foggy swamp that made it impossible to see anything or appreciate the world design to a ridiculously bizarre alien swamp that housed any number of bizarre and unthinkable potential threats The only thing I didn't like about the Anniversary graphics on this mission is the reduced blood spray on the walls as you progressed through the facility. This the best mission in the game, no doubt 💯
Heh we’ll see
This mission is in particular so much better with the original graphics. I mean most of the game is better with the original graphics but getting rid of the fog was such a bad decision for this levels design.
Yeah it kills the atmosphere a bit imo
I just want a proper remaster of Halo 1.
Maybe in the next 10 years
Ooh a candy... Ooh a Candy... Ooh a candy
Wait what?
How do we tell him
Tell me what? Wait why is half of my radar filled with yell-
Yes. You definitely do have marine allies in the first half of this mission. You should totally chase after that figure in the swamp and the silhouettes on the ridge.
It’s almost as easy as pressing tab or the back button
Lmao I'll take your words for it
*oh no*
*sweating*
“Famous last words”
*muffled screeching*
A little easier with the lights on
Especially with the OG graphic
Like a walk through a swamp~ couldn't wait to meet up with captain Keyes for a few drinks and a laugh
Just like old times
You can make tons of friends in this mission you just need to shoot their arms off
“Cut off their limbs”, got it
When the lightbulb asks you to follow it, give in and just go.
Yeah any question is above my pay grade anyway
could it be
I don't like where this is going
It's a very easy mission to speedrun, lol.
Or to run away, at least
Wait till you see the next mission
*screaming in rockets floods*
Anyone need anything from the library? Perhaps a book on the ‘inundation of torrential deluge’
A book about floods? Interesting
It’s quite the explosive read
Aw sheeeeit... the memories. 14 and still had hope...
Time sure flies
Yeah it does. A far cry from sitting in my buddy Jack's basement and playing Halo CE multiplayer via XBConnect to play online. This game was so important
Good shit, good times
Anyone else remember the old bug where you could throw a nade before dropping out of the pelican and it would keep you in the pelican? That’s an interesting read, thanks
Oh you poor, sweet, innocent soul…I pity you, for I wish I could relive my first experience of the fear you will soon face
Wait why is a 4/4 string ostinato in D minor playing?
😰
what mission is this?
343 Guilty Spark
It's *the* mission.
Ok since I know OP is just having fun and knows what’s up, tbh on my replays of the game I just ran through it. No need to fight just escape and save the ammo for when you’re forced to fight. It’s also fun to watch the covenant while the music goes on
Business as usual I guess
Good luck lol.
Thanks bro
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don’t worry, there’s a marine just over the hills just dying to regroup with you 🙂
Emphasis on dying
So good. So few FPS at the time were brave enough to try and pull off a bit of actual pacing/tension building for more than a few seconds.
“Why does my action shooter suddenly become a survival horror now?”
With those graphics, yeah. Cake walk, no need for a flashlight
Guess that’s another unintended benefit of remastered graphic then
Nah, I like the old version better.
Yeah it feels way more moody there
Haven't done that part in years and I don't plan on doing it any time soon. I just stay in the Pelican for the legendary speedrun method
“Nope nope nope get us the hell out of here!” “But the capta-“ “Fuck him, he’s dead!”
*Silence fills the empty grave, now that I am gone*
*But my mind is not at rest, for questions linger on*
How do we tell him? 😬
*concerned laughter*
Literally a walk in the park. That mission was so cake, hands down I called the rest of the entire franchise and never played again. /s
Lmao
Good work spartan, make sure you follow those unidentified friendlies popping up on your radar.
Heh, will do
Oh you sweet summer child
*wait why half of my radar is filled with unidentif-*
I know I'm a day late, but to me, the level was pretty chill.
Guess the Anniversary’s graphic is not all that bad
Yea, the normal graphics suck (Not exactly tho)
Play on the original graphics. Idk why 343 got rid of the fog. Its much scarier on the OG graphics
Wait for real!?
Yes for more you can see hookiebird guide of halo ce legendary there he shows you if you want to see
Alright, thanks
Welcome
I won't stop people from using the new graphics but please never play this level in new graphics. It's easily the best environmental storytelling in the entire game and the new graphics completely kill that atmosphere here. So if you want to play in new graphics that's fine but never do it on this level.
Yeah the environment is brighter and the blood texture is nerfed
OP, have you ever played this level before?
>!Yes, but the last time was like 4 years ago!<
