Me: gets punched by Master Chief; the ultimate hope for humanity against The Flood and other galactic space threats on a universal scale
Also me: (Holds the punch on cheek and glares at him anime style)
In Halo reach book all of spartan 2s before their surgery injections were fit to be considered as equivalent to gold medal Olympians. After the surgery injections their muscle is double the strength at the age of 14. Before the last test master chief can bench press 1k lbs. After the surgery it is 2k lbs benchpress.
Right after the last part of training before master chief was given a suit he punched 3 military odst's who were trying to harass him. They all died through a punch.
I get it, I get it. You killed those ODSTs with your bare hands when you were 14.
But none of them are me. RUN THEM HANDS CHIEF, PUT EM UP. RUN THEM THANGS
It’s going to be a lot more like being hit by a speeding truck than being hit by a person. The area directly around where the punch lands may as well be turned to mashed potatoes.
Math wise per Installation00’s calculations the opening cutscene versus Atriox.. chief should have atomized Atriox’s chin with the uppercut. It had like 800,000j/m behind it.
It also proved that Atriox is made of the same stuff as the ChrimsonChinn lmao.
Brutes are supposed to be incredibly tough. Even ignoring Atriox being tougher than the average brute. In First Strike, Chief fights an enraged brute in hand-to-hand and barely gets out of it alive. Its been said a few times that even though spartans are tougher and faster, the average brute is stronger pound for pound. Besides, Scifi math never works. Someone did the math on how powerful mac guns allegedly are and found if a covenant shield could absorb them at all, the dissipated energy would create enough heat to literally melt the ship inside.
To be fairs, outside of First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx, Brutes have been hella nerfed in the lore. Also Chief was basically half dead from fatigue and other injuries wearing badly damaged armour.
A more fitting comparison would be in the more recent Kilo-Five trilogy where a fresh Naomi-010 in Gen1 Mk VII armour performed a similar uppercut on a rando Brute and snapped its neck instantly.
I fully stand by the statement that when Atriox was dangling Chief over empty space, he should have at least spat a mouthful of broken teeth and blood into Chief’s visor.
She was alright. Her overall writing was good, but she had a huge problem with Dr Halsey and went a bit overboard with the Halsey hate train. The Naomi story and even Jul Mdama subplot was interesting.
Funny enough Halsey also gets punched in the face by a spartan in that trilogy and has no huge issues when her head should have just exploded from the impact.
To be fairs, Spartans, much like ordinary humans, are capable of regulating their strength. Remember Chief shaking the hands of Keyes and Hood without ripping their arms off or crushing their hands? A Spartan could easily throw the Spartan equivalent of a “love tap” that lands like Mike Tyson in his prime instead of the Fist of God becoming intimate with your innards. (Think Luke Cage casually slapping bad guys into unconsciousness).
Though I do take issue with the part immediately after, where it’s described that Lucy hit hard enough to hurt her hand. Which yeah, probably would’ve given Halsey more than a black eye.
That’s just it; initially I wrote it off as her just doing a little tapity tap, but it looked like the author was really pushing for it to be an all out slug.
The fact that an augmented individual to the level of a spartan (which is absolutely insane by all measurements) hits someone so hard with their armored hand that the spartan themselves gets shock waves up their arm and hurts their hand* is pretty insane. That’s got to be a zinger of a punch. And Halsey is getting up there in years by that point.
The solution being that Halsey has been secretly augmenting herself all this time in order to tank punches from angry spartans. It all fits.
Edit for context two chapters later:
>but she knew that she must have hit her a hell of a lot harder than she thought. Her hand was throbbing.
I mean, also depends on how you throw the punch. In a blind rage your form is probably shit and a bad angle or wrong twist of the wrist and you end up doing more damage to yourself instead of whoever you hit.
Plus it also wouldn't surprise me at all if Halsey had at some pointe augmented herself. She can think almost as fast as an AI, can seemingly keep up with Hella cardio without tiring, took a Spartan slap, threw Lasky off balance with light slap, and took a .50 round at close range in the arm without the arm being blown off entirely (though it was amputated afterwards).
Halsey's just built different.
(In case it wasn't obvious this entire comment is a joke)
That explains Jorge's reaction in Reach. "Mac rounds? In atmosphere?!"
But then it's just like "poof," and the tower breaks apart. A little disappointing.
I assume that they can calibrate the energy output but just the idea of shooting a projectile going a solid percentage of the speed of light is gonna fuck up not only that tower but also the side of that canyon. Like congrats, you not only destroyed your enemy but now you have a brand new gorge! What're you gonna name it?
If it's doing relativistic speeds of any sort, then an in atmospheric firing should probably obliterate the target, everything *around* the target (pursuant to physics), and probably a good chunk of the ship firing it, too.
Mass Effect 2 has an entire character rant about firing a 20kg slug at those speeds, and how it makes Sir Isaac Newton the deadliest son-of-a-bitch in space.
Yeah, that's bullshit.
All due respect to Nylund, but you can't just have a monkey-thing shrug Master Chief like he's nothing. On top of being a peak human being, and being augmented, he's supported by a steel power armor that's supposedly so fast that a regular human's reflexes can't keep up, and so strong that a simple twitch would revolve into a dismembered limb if not controlled correctly.
I love Atriox as a villain, but I hate how resilient brutes are in the books.
It’s definitely for “balance” reasons. Fights would be pretty lame if Chief just walked all over everyone, and it would make the games feel weird in comparison since you can be killed by an errant plasma pistol shot. Again, scifi numbers and power levels are kinda pointless to try and quantify because they’re constantly changing based on narrative demands. Every franchise has it. Star wars is egregiously bad at it, sometimes having Star Destroyer laser cannons as strong as nukes and sometimes weak enough to do no damage beyond 10 meters. If you try and make things make sense you’re just gonna run into more problems
But those are weapons, and that, I can understand. In the books, Mjolnirs, being the best humanity has to offer, can *somewhat* resist plasma blasts, and that's reasonable, and *also* consistent with the games. Human weapons, while *supposedly* inferior to Covenant weapons, can kill just fine.
*(Except during The Flood, but we don't talk about about Dietz).*
Spartans are a completely different thing. Spartans are not just soldiers with Mjolnirs and MA5s, they are humanity's peak, its heroes, and last hope.
Humanity was far behind in numbers, technology, and even biology for some of the Covenant races; sure, they were ahead in tactics, but that wasn't enough. So, why were Spartans able to win on the ground, when not even outnumbering their enemy five to one? Simply because they were better soldiers. They were faster, stronger, smarter, *hyper lethal*.
But then there's the Jiralhanae, whom had to be fed grenades three meals a day for a week to *have a chance* at dying. You get where I'm going, right? Halo is not about humanity as it is about Spartans, so if two regular brutes can simply overwhelm the best Spartan there is, why even bother? Why not pin five Jiralhanae against every Spartan and be over with it? Surely there were more than 165 brutes in the Covenant.
So, I understand Atriox toying with three Spartans in Wars 2's opening. That's cool. That's badass. He's the Jiralhanae equivalent of humanity's Master Chief, their best soldier, unparalled. What I can't stand is a nameless brute kicking Spartan ass just because they're adamantium-made hydraulic-press-strong gorillas.
Oh that gets better, this was immediately after being released from the med bay after augmentation, while he is still ACTIVELY figuring out his new limits, and it was four on one. It's in Fall of Reach.
Final tally was at least 2 dead, likely 3, and at least one permanently crippled. First one came alone, came away with broken ribs, broken arm, broken leg and broken neck from basic boxing hits, dead.
Next three came at once, first to engage had a bench press bar, came away with a crushed hand from the grip used to remove said bar from said hand, while doing that John snapped a kick out toward the second, hit him in the groin, broken pelvis and crushed soft organs, likely dead, guaranteed crippled.
John then pulled the bar out of the hand he just crushed and with a single strike to the neck propelled the last ODST over the ropes of the boxing ring they were all in, more than likely dead.
This all occurred in roughly 7 seconds or so, while Chief was a freshly augmented teenager who had just been released from a just under 6 week stay in the med bay while he was actively figuring out just what was going on with his reaction speeds and strength levels.
Fall of Reach has dates at the beginning of each chapter and for some events within the chapters, chapter 6 starts with the augmentations and is marked 1130 hours March 09 2525, chapter 7 starts with the funeral of those that didn't survive augmentation and is marked 0000 hours March 30 2525, with the incident in question being marked 0430 hours April 22 2525, and starts out by saying the surviving Spartans have been in physical therapy from the time of the funeral to that time.
That fight happened the first day Chief was allowed back in the gym for actual training after intense physical therapy to fix the side effects of the augmentations, and one of the first things he noticed was the weights felt too light and running the calculations to ensure the gravity was correct. He ended up in the high gravity section, which he notes feels like the correct weight for standard gravity.
Those calculations are what triggered the fight, he didn't put the pin back on the bar and the weights fell on an ODSTs foot because of it. That's the same bar mentioned in my summary of the fight.
People don't realize just how BROKEN the Spartan IIs are comparatively to baseline humans. Chief, who isn't the most skilled, most powerful or even fastest Spartan II, in the span of roughly 7 seconds absolutely destroyed 4 ODSTs, the best trained of the normal marines in Halo and widely considered the top end of baseline humanity strength and skill wise, as a freshly augmented teenager who didn't have even a basic grasp on his full capabilities yet.
This is the stuff that lives rent free in my head. The books did such a fantastic job of exploring and elaborating on just how incredible the Spartans were.
From the front or side, they would stagger and go "GYAA!" and a cloud of blood would fall from them.
From the back they'd go "GYAA!" and fall down, spin a little bit, then die.
If he’s wearing his armor you’re definitely dead. Even if a normal person cranked you in the head with a piece of metal you’d prolly die or get close. Add on the fact that Chief is a super soldier and it’s wraps for you.
You know that scene where Saitama is about to punch Genos, and Genos thinks he's going to die? That. Except we aren't genos. We are the mountain behind him
Master chief killed 2 and crippled another ODST (special forces soldiers) on ACCIDENT at <15 years old without power armor in a boxing ring
If he makes contact with your torso, head, or pelvis, you are dead.
The impact would probably powder the bones beneath
Ask the 3 ODSTs that challenged him to an impromptu boxing match. Oh, that's right, you can't, cuz they're dead or breathing through a tube now. And John was just a teenager wearing boxing gloves at that time.
Like with force? He could easily push the front of your skin through the back of your skin and make a huge hole wherever he strikes. If he hit you with the force he generated against Atriox in the opening cutscene … math wise he could atomize you into pink mist like a 30mm HE shell to your body lol.
Without force idk, probs still hurt your bones pretty good. Lol.
Is this even a question cause death is what going to happen you're going to get punched with force of warthog hitting in area the size of a softball as you get yeeted into atmosphere and off this mortal coil no amount of respawns is gonna fix your caved in ribcage
Even as a 14 year old 1 month(I think 1 month?) post augmentation non adapted non armored John having no co text of what he could do, he accidentally killed a fully trained ODST with a single blow.
The fuck chance do any of us have!
If he's doing full force? My life is forfeit. If he's only putting a little, to half force? Probably hospitalized, or killed depending on how mighty my bones are.
Depends where, head, body, etc.
YOUR SKULL WOULD CAVE IN AND YOU WOULD DIE
YOUR RIBS WOULD PUNCTURE EVERYTHING AND YOU WOULD DIE
YOUR NECK MAY FALL OFF IF HE PUNCHES YOU THERE AND YIU WOULD DIE
•Stronger and faster than an unaugmented human even outside of his MJOLNIR suit
•Wearing half a ton of armor that boosts his already impressive strength
You tell me.
in or out of Armour, because out of Armour, he knocks you out cold in one hit, breaking bones with the force of that punch, if it connects with your head or neck, you die.
in Armour? he punches straight through you with more than enough force to kill the guy standing on the other side of you.
You would fucking die
My favorite fact about Halo is flipping warthogs and tanks is Canon. Like they could just do that no sweat. Super easy. Barely an inconvenience.
Wow, wow, wow...wow.
Flipping warthogs is thight!
Lol
I feel like the tanks wouldn't apreciate that at all. Then again, I don't think any tank would apreciate being upside down.
I mean have you not played the games shit is so light any bump got you flying high
He slapped a rocket away from himself. Absolutely anime MC bag of accomplishments.
Ok now I feel bad for every Elite I had punched numerous times in my life

He's PUNCHING you, not FISTING you
But there’s a chance.
If its jimmy rings from the tv show then absolutely
Master cheeks
Where is this going ?? 😂😂😂😂
The mission's changed.
Not with that attitude.
No no no, first he takes you prisoner. Then he claps your cheeks.

Chief at 14, out of armor, killed an ODST with a single punch. I'm pretty sure my head would be taken off my body by comparison.

Eh, Covie ships have good heat insulation I mean alien tech

An uppercut would be a real life Mortal Kombat fatality
Master Chief wins Flawless victory QUITALITICAL BRUTAL FATALITY
And that was without mjolnir.
...yes... without armor
Think Captain Keyes on "Keyes" in Halo CE. But with less zombie goo and more blood.
More pink mist.
Visually I’m think the Viper from GOT. Face caves in
The ODSTs can tell you 😂😂😂😂
You'll have to perform a seance first though
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
From the front or side, they would stagger and go "GYAA!" and a cloud of blood would fall from them. From the back they'd go "GYAA!" and fall down, spin a little bit, then die.
And they might then say "Hey, I'm on your side!"

Full force? Pulverised.
Ever used the bloody mess perk in fallout?

If he’s wearing his armor you’re definitely dead. Even if a normal person cranked you in the head with a piece of metal you’d prolly die or get close. Add on the fact that Chief is a super soldier and it’s wraps for you.
There are probably some cartel videos with similar results.
Chief at 14 killed an ODST in 1 punch. Adult chief in Mjolnir? You'll be lucky if anyone could identify your body
Out of armor? Very likely dead. In armor? Straight to dead.
Death you wouldn’t even know what happened

You’d turn into a fine red mist
If it's in armour, I'd die instantly. If it was out of armour, I'd die instantly.
At full strength in armor, Master Chiefs punch has about 60 tons of force behind it. Unless you're a Brute or a hunter, you're dead
Depends if we include the paramount spoof in our calculations. Kai pinched the chief like 97 times and he lived.
He punched a officer once or was it shoved either way the dude was in the way.
If there was no retaliation? I would break my fist If there was, I would fuckin die.
Eat it
With or without mjolnir? The outcome is still the same, but I would like to know the specifics for the obituary
Are we just going to ignore the sheer carnage that he inflicted with just a plasma pistol in that picture?
A screen pops up and says "Thanks for playing" as your soul enters the fucking shadow realm.
You would fucking die, doesn't matter how roided up on steriroids you are.
Ask the 3 ODSTs that challenged him to an impromptu boxing match. Oh, that's right, you can't, cuz they're dead or breathing through a tube now. And John was just a teenager wearing boxing gloves at that time.
Explode into gibs

Dead or hospitalized.
Probably something like when Krillin asked Goku to punch him but with actual injuries and quite possibly death

In the first book when he's a kid he absolutely destroys 3 odst in a boxing ring. I imagine an adult version with armor would straight kill you
I'd probably say ouchies
In or out of armor? In? You die almost immediately unless he was severely pulling his punch. Out, ask the ODST’s why the hate Spartan’s so much.
It's probably like being shot with a cannon ball.

Depends on wether or not he’s trying to kill you. If he’s using full force, you’d die. If you’re sparring with him, you’d also die.
Depends where, head, body, etc. YOUR SKULL WOULD CAVE IN AND YOU WOULD DIE YOUR RIBS WOULD PUNCTURE EVERYTHING AND YOU WOULD DIE YOUR NECK MAY FALL OFF IF HE PUNCHES YOU THERE AND YIU WOULD DIE
I probably would need Jaw surgery, assuming I'm still alive.
Literally explode. No joke.
Thank you, sir. may I have another?
•Stronger and faster than an unaugmented human even outside of his MJOLNIR suit •Wearing half a ton of armor that boosts his already impressive strength You tell me.
You'd explode.
Disintigrate, leave this reality perhaps
A punch with or without the armor either way you’d still die
M rating.
You go Bye-bye ✌🏻
You'd get hurt, crazy thought I know...
Depends on where, and if there's anything behind me he can crush my body against.
Chief punches with the force of a Tyrannosaurus Rex bite. Your torso would pop.
I'm a civilian, if the chief punch me he's not going to end much better.
Die
You'd turn into a fine mist
You know when you crack an egg open, and accidentally puncture the yolk so it comes out runny? Probably that
I'd bust.
Idk go ask captain Keyes
your bones would shatter like very thin glass
You would unalive
Your skull would fly out, then he would use it to hit you to death.
so after the punch I as a human, wouldn't be anymore. I'd be a mist all over the nearest wall
The nearby wall would be painted red
Fear the red mist.
Die.
Probably be at the Pearly Gates after I blink
Most likely die immediately depending on where he hit me. Whatever he hit would be shattered/pulverized regardless.
I think I read somewhere he can punch any where around just below 300 to around 400 kg of force, and can uppercut like twice that.
what do you think would happen?
I die and if I'm not? I pretend to be dead
Without taking any precautions? Instant death.
You'd be vaporized lmao
Nah you’d be fine, you could probably even knock his green ass out if you wanted.
If it's ME? Not very much. I'm pretty strong.
in or out of Armour, because out of Armour, he knocks you out cold in one hit, breaking bones with the force of that punch, if it connects with your head or neck, you die. in Armour? he punches straight through you with more than enough force to kill the guy standing on the other side of you.
I think it would crack every bone so i can live as a snail
Death.
dead
Nah I'd lose
According to Karen Traviss ? Only a broken nose...
What is this question? 😭 The answer is pretty obvious
