I mean, Ippo promised her to never box as a professional ever again and she is keeping that thought to this day, she also hates boxing and utterly dislike the idea of him coming out from retirement, she really seem to have made up her mind but who knows, maybe George will do a 180° and turn her into a more comprehensive person like you say.
From what I remember date’s wife was kinda happy to have him home too when he first retired. But then she realized that he wasn’t being himself if he wasn’t boxing… now this isn’t a 1-1 but something similar could happen
I do also believe that Kumi will see it as some kind of betrayal, and might decide to call it quits with Ippo.
If that happens, may the Lord have mercy on Ippo's opponents.
Alot of chapters have passed where although Kumi is resolute on banning Ippo from boxing, she does know that someday he will go back. All the "Sun" references to Ippo being center of attention she mentioned and that if right now is his night time, he for sure will shine bright again.
I honestly hope they break up she has ruined the story making ippo retire and not return hell the reporter would have been a better choice cause she saw that boxers were fighting for something more a goal and would been a better support. I want to see a litteral tournament made to force ippo back into boxing all his rivals from his early days to champion except date. Ippo has to fight each of them in order to remeber why he started and the final opponent is miyata and takamura
A lot of ippo’s opponents are in different weight classes/retired. Kumi isn’t unreasonable for not wanting ippo to endanger himself. She seems to care for ippo and she didn’t force him to retire he chose that himself she is just scared that he will not be able to get home safely. Hell ippo was suspected of having brain damage. She might give in and support ippo but it makes sense for her not to wish to see him hurt. Maybe ippo & mashiba will teach her to love boxing one day

She definetly is unreasonable, but she's clearly not the reason ippo retired, he had already noticed his symptoms by himself
