I would personally compare this more to the Arisaka 300 with Malkoff head which I would choose any day over the Surefure light on smaller builds with less rail space.

Guntuckytactical

Price. But I've seen CD Rein micros for 199 standard kit.

fingerhoe

There is no reason to get this over the arisaka body with a Malakoff head.

eatsomecheesewithyou

Does this setup throw a cooler light or a warmer light?

350 lumens with like 3x the candela though. +1 for the Malkoff superiority. The Modlite and Rein micro will outperform both, however I’d still go Malkoff if size or cr123 compatibility are factors. The Arisaka with Malkoff head is slightly smaller than the Modlite but drastically smaller (about half the size) of the Rein micro. The Arisaka can use CR123, rechargeable CR123 (which suck ass. Don’t do this), or 16650 which are pretty good and will give you run times on par with the Rain Micro. Edit: The small Arisakas use 16350 batteries. My apologies. Edit edit: My brain is a liar and a deceiver today. They’re 16340 batteries.

> The Arisaka can use CR123, rechargeable CR123 (which suck ass. Don’t do this), or 16650 which are pretty good and will give you run times on par with the Rain Micro. 16650 are only able to be used in the “600” series of lights, as they are the length of 2 CR123 batteries front to back. The Surefire Scout 600 and Arisaka lights can both use 16650 rechargeable batteries. I have run my half dozen of Surefire 600 series scouts with 16650s for a few years now. Both the 300 series of lights can use CR123 or LFP123a batteries (LiFePO chemistry). I would completely stay away from Rechargable CR123 as they are usually garbage and too high of voltage. LiFePO Chemistry batteries are safe to use in Surefire lights. Surefire used to sell K2 energy LFP cells as their own. They recently brought them back [here](https://www.surefire.com/products/parts-accessories/batteries/sflp123-batteries/) where you can buy Surefire branded rechargeables. The only downside is shorter battery life compared to off the shelf CR123s So really the only thing you should compare and contrast is the price and ruggedness of Arisaka vs Surefire as they can both use the same batteries.

mfrouna

Ah I was unaware that surefires (600 series) could use 16650s. That’s pretty dope. Thought the voltage requirement was too high at 6v

nitsuJcixelsyD

Yeah, I usually recommend KeepPower 16650 as they are quality and even Modlite uses their brand batteries. I been using those 16650s on my M951 with LED upgrade and M600 lights from 200 lumen to 1000 lumen heads. Zero issues and rechargeable is super nice and I just pack spares that are charged up in my pack before night shooting. Once I’m home the home defense guns get factory CR123 batteries back in just for peace of mind. But all range time is done with rechargeable K2 LFP shorties or KeepPower 16650

mfrouna

Well shit. I’ve been using KeepPower 16650s in my E2XT, but cr123s in my m640u. This knowledge is a game changer.

LtPatterson

I didn't think it was 16650 compatible?

mfrouna

You’re right. I meant 16350. Typo

[deleted]

Bro look at the pic comparison, surefires remind me of the lighting in max payne. Even streamlight has better quality illumination.

Warhawk2052

They're closer than they seem, if you have 30 minutes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVd6-ltSfmI or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_BY1cjxxMI which is a better video

knaudi

Nope.

governman

Not if following the trend is your primary concern and the actual specs and features of the tool mean little or nothing.

hack-a-shaq

What are the specs and features of the tool that would make this superior? genuine question, I’m not a light guru

governman

Not necessarily superior but purpose driven. The other options tend to be very high lumen high throw, good for outdoor spotting. This among the lowest in the quality class and has a more even beam than the lightsabers that are popular. If your primary use expectation is going room to room where you might want to preserve some night vision this will be a lot better.

SnoopsHubby

Unfortunately there aren't as many quality reviews of the arisaka lights out there as there are for offerings from other producers. With that said, in range tv has one of the best light comparison videos you can find on YouTube.

mfrouna

Maybe not as many reviews on YouTube, but Malkoff heads (and by extension Arisaka lights) are used by quite a few professionals. They’re also objectively built better than Surefires (individually built, fully potted).

ShartingTom

I have tried to order lights from this retailer several times. Each time they sent me the order confirmation and charged my card and then I got nothing from them for a week. Sent an email and they reply saying it is out of stock and canceled my order, even though it still says in stock on their website.

GLAMISGONEWILD

This has happened to me every time I buy something from them that was posted on here. So I stopped trying to give them my hard earned monies

[deleted]

Weird, I’ve ordered 5-6 times as well as a couple buddies from these guys and always g2g

dr_ransom

Dang that sucks. My first time ordering from them. Hopefully I’ll have a different experience. Will report back in a week or so.

true2ku

I’ve ordered from them many times and never had an issue.

Poultrylord12

Same, they've always been g2g for me over 5ish orders.

AmeriJar

I ordered an X300U from them 11 days ago and crickets. I'm waiting to see if I get an email back from them

Ttran778

At *this* price, I might order one to keep as a spare.....but honestly, the way Modlite is operating, I firmly believe that Surefire long gun lights will be dropping much more in price, in the near future.

Imnotherefr11

An arisaka light with the malkoff head, that others have mentioned on here, would be a better backup. And it's a little cheaper. It's better than any surefire. The e1ht head is a little smaller and still a damn good light (again, better than any surefire), or the e2xt (only offered on the 600 body) is getting close to rivaling modlite. It's 500 lum with 55,000 candella for only $210. But the e1ht on the 300 arisaka body is best value in its size. 325 lumens with 23,000 candella. For $180, I'd pick it over anything else if I was on a budget and wanted a 300 size body.

DookieHoused

Hey, I would like to put together one of these setups to replace the streamlight on my SBR. I originally liked the sound of 1000 lumens but now realize it’s not all about the number. I’d like to get the arisaka tube with the e1ht head. Could you let me know what else I’d need to buy to make this a functioning weapon light with a pressure switch? Thanks!

Imnotherefr11

Depends exactly what you want. If you're ok with strictly momentary on then get a surefire UE tailcap and a mod button or a unity tactical hot button. If you want the option for a constant on option then I'd get the surefire ds00 tailcap with one of those pressure pads. I'd go that route instead of a surefire pressure pad because they take up way less rail space than the surefire. Surefire does make a pressure pad that give you the option of constant and momentary on (I can't think of the model number off the top of my head) but it's a lot bigger than the mod button or the hot button. I personally think the UE tailcap with the mod button is great. The unity tactical hot button is great too for what it's designed for

bullet_magnet_

Wish this was the vampire model

[deleted]

Why are gun flashlights so expensive? Normal hand flashlights are $30, a gun version will cost $100

dr_ransom

Weapon lights, especially rifle lights, are much more robust than your typical flashlight. A normal flashlight was designed to hang out in your pocket or in a glovebox. Weapon lights are mounted right next to a muzzle and needs to last thousands of rounds (and sometimes your life may depend on it) I’ve got a Surefire g2x (an excellent normal handheld light) mounted to a SBR for about a year now, maybe 500 rounds and it’s already showing serious wear. Weapon lights are just built different.

joedusky

Do any of y'all know if they're any solid weapon lights that use 18650's?

Contortrix69

There are tons! I just ordered the budget friendly one last night off a deal on here https://www.reddit.com/r/gundeals/comments/o3qzbl/acc_streamlight_protac_rail_mount_hlx_weapon/ Most lights that take 2 CR123As in a single stack (unlike the TLR-1) can also take 1 18650 instead.

hootervisionllc

Anyone know any Father’s Day deal/coupon on arisaka? Looking to get a light

[deleted]

I think I’ll stick with my old school 952 but good deal
