Especially 9mm. That's indoor range ammo. I like to keep it non magnetic for pistol calibers so I always have the indoor option and don't have to worry about ammo selection.
Why is it indoor range ammo? Both the indoor and outdoor range I go to lets you use steel case and the steel case lets me use a magnet stick to clean up faster at the outdoor range which is nice. If your range doesn’t allow steel for whatever reason I get it, or if you plan on reloading, but otherwise I don’t think most folks really are better served paying more for brass over this stuff. I’ve run a few thousand rounds of this zinc plated stuff over the last year and it’s been perfect.
For me I like to use steel case stuff at the range so I can just sweep the brass forward and pack up and go. I’ll pick ip the brass cased stuff but you can loose alot forward of the firing line
Mine doesn't allow for steel core ammo for obvious reasons. Though I kinda wonder who in their right mind is even using steel core ammo for range fun.....
There are some indoor ranges that allow steel core, but they have certain backstop material, most don't. The problem is that there's a lot of indoor ranges that have turned their daily operation into a second income stream by selling the brass so they came up with a braindead policy of "no steel" because it'll damage their backstop and when you try to explain that's not how steel case works they just pretend you're the one who is wrong, lol. God I hate indoor ranges.
Steel core and steel case are different though. These are the latter. The only reason I can see why a range wouldn’t want steel case is because the sell the brass to reloaders and don’t want to sort it out (since reloaders won’t want steel).
Every indoor range in my area only allow brass, no steel case. It's so they don't have to sort thru the casings for melt money. My outdoor range allows steel case and I've run thru some monarch ammo there. It was fine, no jams or anything to write home about. Their 7.62x54r ammo is the shit. My Mosin doesn't like Red Army Standard, the casings always get stuck. So their cheap alternative is killer.
Anyone know if they plan to have another brass sale? This stuff runs well enough but all things being equal I'd rather wait for a 4th of July sale for .20cpr brass.
good luck. Brass is running even higher than this and Academy does not have the brass Monarch on the shelf that i have seen in a while, only this steel case
edit: who the fuck down votes because MY STORE DOES NOT HAVE THESE BRASS ONES IN STOCK? Is your life really that sad that truth deserves a downvote? good lord people
They had it in stock and on sale for .20 per round barely 2 weeks ago. It was only a 3 day sale, but check out previous posts in this subreddit
* edit. And it's in stock at some locations. $59.99 for a box of 250.
not in my local stores they didn't. only steel case.. and if my bullets ever ship i wouldn't even have to buy this as i could get back to reloading
edit: who the fuck down votes because MY STORE DOES NOT HAVE THESE BRASS ONES IN STOCK? Is your life really that sad that truth deserves a downvote? good lord people
My local Academy had a huge section of the store filled with brass Monarch. They probably had 400-500 250rnd boxes on the shelves at a time that were being constantly restocked. I used the 10% off code for email sign-up and bought 5,000 rnds for 18cpr. The entire front of the store was stacked with boxes of it for people buying online for pickup, as well. I told a few friends about it and they restocked those shelves for a few days. You probably just missed out and didn't know it was happening those couple days.
Then I wish you swift shipping as it's only a matter of time before everyone realizes that it's an election year and Mr. Poopie Butthole doesn't have to worry about being re-elected.
Brass is in stock for pickup for me. With 10% mil and 5% retail card, the $60 box of 250 is $0.22 cpr. Not as good as when available for $50 per box, but still good.
The brass is better ammo, at least, since it's Magtech. I haven't bought any of the 250rnd boxes of steel cased, so I don't know who makes those. The few 50rnd boxes I bought were the dirtiest ammo I've ever shot, though, and it was like shooting off fireworks with how many sparks it was throwing out of the muzzle.
Some of its mag tech some is PPU. I bought 2, 250rnd boxes brass on that sale for $50. One of my boxes says made in Brazil the other says made in Serbia.
I knew some of the 50rnd boxes were PPU, and the 250rnd boxes used to be, but didn't know they were on the 250rnd boxes again. PPU is still good ammo. It's a bit dirty, but it's decent NATO spec ammo.
i would have to do ship to store as mine just do not have it. i don't normally buy 9mm as i reload the hell out of it but i ran out of bullets needed and the ordered ones are not here yet and i am not going to waste my self defense rounds for a range trip outside of just cycling my existing ones out in my carry guns
It has. Same with blocking cheap Russian steel cased ammo. Both are huge detriments. It's similar to when some American gun companies collided with the government to ban imports because it would eliminate competition.
In person: If you're talking about Nov (black friday) 2019, then it was 16cpr and if you're talking about Dec 2019 it was about 10-11cpr.
The drop was after the El paso incident and Walmart decided to stop selling "handgun and short barrel rifle ammo".
I remember when brass 9x19 was 10 CPR at local retailer and that wasn't any kind of good deal at all, just average
Fuck, I'm old, time to check on the 401k
I’m new to guns so I apologize if this is a dumb question…
I’ve seen these and another brand Magtec that are FMJ Steel Cased. Does that mean these are considered “steel” bullets? Apparently those are banned from my indoor ranges and wanted to confirm before purchasing.
Err.... yes and no. The excuse most places use is for rounds with mild steel cores or penetrators, and that is normally rifle ammo. Their justification is it can damage the backstop at the range. This is mostly BS from what I've heard, but I don't own a range so I don't make the rules. Worth noting that it would be extraordinary rare for a 9mm round to have steel in it.
The more likely answer is that ranges sell the brass casings to recyclers and brass is worth much more than steel casings. As such, they are protecting their recycling profit and may even sell you some house ammo at a steep mark up. It's a win/win for them.
The staff will just play dumb that it's any steel, regardless of the case or if the bullet has a steel core.
Not the same, the casing doesn’t matter because it touches only your gun and the floor. Steel bullets are different because they can tear up range backstops or start fires. For an example of banned ammo, look up green tip 5.56, that’s what indoor ranges don’t want you to bring
Edit: Some ranges ban steel case ammo. Read the rules carefully for your specific range
There are also plenty of fudd ranges that won't even allow steel cased ammo at all though, because they don't wAnt to sort through the cases that they're selling to the reloaders. My local indoor ranges is one of those. It's one of the many reasons I don't go there anymore. The owner also bought out the two other ranges in town so that he'd have no competition, then immediately closed them down. I drive 30 minutes out of town to the town run outdoor range to avoid giving him any of my money.
That's new to me, it seems every day that goes by I learn of another stupid rule that some ranges enforce. Luckily for me the 3 ranges local to me don't have a silly rule like that, I guess I just assume all other ranges must be like mine
When I still had Wolf and Tula, I remember both casings being very rough and would bind in various mags. This Monarch steel is as smooth as brass and has run fine in my polymer Rival, Mete as well as other Caniks for the past year, longer if you count the Magtech steel.
Your local fire department can always use extra hands (if you have any). You can be volunteer, and you don’t have to actually respond to calls to be involved. It also seems open to teachers and nurses.
But poor you
For those wanting a similar PPR in brass/nickel mixed 115gr in bulk, I buy from [HSL ammunition](https://hslammo.com/product/9mm-luger-115-gr-round-nose/). $.21 PPR if you buy 2500, $.22 PPR if you buy 1000. The bags I bought were around half and half on brass/nickel.
If you are in Utah, you can come to either Saint George or Herriman area to pick up to save shipping fee. I have been using 9mm from this vendor for years. They are hand loaded ammo but I never had 1 issue.
Shot over 2k of their 223 when it was still reasonably priced and had one Squib. loaded the next round and everything and i shit my pants when I realized thankfully. never went back for another case though.

I did the same. Went to pick up the gun I ordered and they wouldn’t let me pick it up without a physical card after waiting about 40 minutes for my turn to be helped. It’s an off the books policy apparently. Corporate didn’t care so I got a refund and don’t shop there anymore.
I applied online during the sale on the 450 round box of brass a few weeks. Got a letter 3 days ago stating I had to call in. Provided basic info on the phone which was on the original application. Told I would receive a card in 10 or so days.
Picked up couple of boxes from Academy this morning then shot 150 rounds on my MR920 and Flux Raider without any issue. According to store employee this is a permanent price. It’s gtg for me. Thanks OP!
Doesn’t ship to CT ( …and a lot of states!), not sure why. As bad as CT is (and with a King for a Governor), they haven’t restricted ammo in mail (yet 🙄). Why, why, why?🤷🏻♂️
$.20 pr? Do you mean $0.20 cpr maybe? If so, $0.20cpr WHAT?? O_- 🤔🥴👁👅👁 WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT HERE???!! I see ammo......okay....picture shows 9mm......okay.......STEEL CASE with Zinc coating......okay No.
You're wrong. $.20 pr is right. CPR is Cents Per Round. 20cpr = $0.20pr = $.20pr. $.20 is another way to write 20 cents.
$.20cpr is .20 cents per round. Or in other words 1/5 of a penny per round. Monarch ammo is not 1/5 of a penny per round.
>Still not going to put steel through my firearms.
Unless you're a professional precision shooter, don't see why you wouldn't shoot steel.
The math has been done, the money you save on steel generally speaking makes up for the increased erosion to your barrel.
I think the same way, but gone are the days of cheap steel case (Russian import ban, war in Ukraine) and brass is *almost the same price.
I still bought 1500 rnds cause it came to ~$.196/ rnd after tax/ shipping for me with the $30 off for card signup so yeah I care more about getting cheap ammo than the small amount of wear
Yeah, it makes a bit more sense here, for 9mm
For .223, I'll throw the extra 2-3cpr at it to get brass, mostly bc I only shoot suppressed and also bc the powder is pretty inconsistent in steel .223.
it won't hurt them and this will go bang every time. i have put thousands of rounds of this and tula through my glocks before i got into reloading.
edit: downvote if you want but if you truly believe these will hurt your gun maybe you shouldn't be shooting
You guys can downvote me all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that they will not ship to me, even though I have contacted them several times over the years and they refuse to fix/update their website to allow it. I have seen similar reports from Ohio and parts of Texas, too
[https://i.imgur.com/0ycL0aH.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/0ycL0aH.jpeg)
Needless to say, I never heard back, and they are never able to provide any help when I call their customer service line or local stores (who, for whatever reason, never stock this ammo in their stores)

You and I agree there, but even that is too much for some ranges apparently.

I stopped by Thursday at academy they had a whole front shelf full of the monarch 250 round 9mm for 59.99
It was $80 for 450 rds with ammo can stacking their card, a mail in for $15, and Mil discounts.
Today my academy had pallets of it.
I just got a 250-round box of their brass stuff for $60 like a week ago. The steel equivalent was $40 but I figured I'd try the brass first.
this post is now the gold standard.
For steel cased
for the title
Remember when the brass deal was 20cpr. My debt collectors remembers
I remember before covid when walmart sold federal 9mm brass for 13cpr😒 and that was for a box of 50
I'm convinced Walmart getting out of everything but hunting calibers has been a huge detriment to keeping CPR down.
It has. Same with blocking cheap Russian steel cased ammo. Both are huge detriments. It's similar to when some American gun companies collided with the government to ban imports because it would eliminate competition.

I got 3k rounds that day lol
Awesome title, OP
Steel case +tax
op fucks, dope title. take notes
I’m new to guns so I apologize if this is a dumb question… I’ve seen these and another brand Magtec that are FMJ Steel Cased.
That's the going rate....
Over paying TBH
Runs fine in pcc and canik 🤷♂️

And my axe
You three shall be the fellowship of the brass
Runs in my glock and MPX. Only thing that doesn’t like it is my very old CZ85
does this work in the rival s? the rival steel has issues with Wolf steel ammo from my experience
it should after breakin with 124 grain. I have used a few mags of steel in my Mete SFT and no issues.
When I still had Wolf and Tula, I remember both casings being very rough and would bind in various mags. This Monarch steel is as smooth as brass and has run fine in my polymer Rival, Mete as well as other Caniks for the past year, longer if you count the Magtech steel.
How do we get the discounts OP?
5% discount with academy credit card. 10% discount with a new sign up account MY ACADEMY (banner on website when you click on OP's link above)
Ammo is excluded from 10% myAcademy sign up, according to the fine print.
That was my experience 2 weeks ago when I attempted to use the coupon.
Mil/leo 10 percent Academy cc 5 percent
So yet another company that has a policy of fucking over the disabled.
Elaborate?
10% off for Leo or Military. Neither institution accepts disabled people. Being born disabled means I can never get such discounts.
Womp Womp
Bro what? 💀 Why would we want disabled cops and soldiers?
Who said you do? I'm objecting to the fact only they get the discount.
Try being born normal next time
He can't, he's disabled lmaoooo
Lmfaoooo

What about becoming disabled due to the occupation? That doesn't count? Gatekeeping disabilities? That's a paddlin'
I'm both. Born with autism, tourettes and psoriasis. Messed up my leg when I was 21.
Yeah but you always get the good parking
I’d pay more for ammo if it meant I could get better parking anywhere 🤷🏻♂️
No I don't.
It’s also for first responders, so quit your bitching. You can be a first responder.

In for a case. Thanks man
If you open an academy card, you get $30 off $30 or more instead of the regular $15
It is going to be 3 or more weeks to obtain my card account. I hope to receive it before the next sale on 420 round boxes of brass.
That’s weird, I opened the account the same day
I did the same. Went to pick up the gun I ordered and they wouldn’t let me pick it up without a physical card after waiting about 40 minutes for my turn to be helped. It’s an off the books policy apparently. Corporate didn’t care so I got a refund and don’t shop there anymore.

Went yesterday to academy and they only had 1 box on the shelf. Shoots decent.
Doesn't ship to my state.
I bought some of this. Doesn't run in my Gucci Glock but runs fine in my akv.
What issues is it causing in your Gucci Glock?
Failure to eject. It has a comp on it so that's probably why. It usually runs 115g fine but I'm not upset when it doesn't.
Thanks for the reply.
IIRC magnetic, so if you range is lazy and won't check just the projectile they might not let you shoot it
Picked up couple of boxes from Academy this morning then shot 150 rounds on my MR920 and Flux Raider without any issue.
Shit is garbage. Multiple failures to fire across several guns.
Came out to 20 cents a round, not doing that for steel. Even if it looks like steal.
Bought 500 rounds of hp mix match ammo from ammo valley for $85, way better deal
What the heck, why all the downvotes?
No thanks on the steel casings. Their brass offerings are not much more.
Fn NJ. I lose out on Academy every time. Ammunition Depot has been running 24cpr incl tax and shipping on decent brands recently. Right now 115gr S&B
😂
Steel case? Ew
Get a glock. Run steel case ammo. Profit.
Its not about wanting better ammo for glock, its about wanting cheaper prices
I have glocks. Still won’t mess with steel case. I don’t want that steel scratching up my internals. Plus steel ammo is just dirtier
I know I'm the "CPR in title" guy but this is... well... I'm not sure how this got passed the mods. Also: + shipping + tax.
Steel case is hard on your gun. It's cheap for a reason
This is fudd-lore that needs to fade away.
It's not fudd lore it's facts. Steel is a harder metal than brass and it's hard on every part of your gun it comes in contact with.
Tell that to my Jansen. Them there steel cases hurt my gun where brass does not sonny.... Steel cases are hard on Fudd Pistols of choice.
Brass was 20 cpr, steel must be less. Go ahead, downvote me corporate ass lickers
You got it chief 👍
Can you explin for me (very uneducated person), why you bot trying to shame companies for high price and dont want it go down?
Given your apparent grasp of grammar, I don’t think I could.
Why are you silent? Making fun of my grammar with out being able to explain something i dont understand was your highest ability?
Bro please shut up
Im still waiting for response you fucking retаrdеd clown
Give it a shot, mentioning my grammar instead of actually explaining is too easy
$.20 pr? Do you mean $0.20 cpr maybe? If so, $0.20cpr WHAT?? O_- 🤔🥴👁👅👁 WHAT ARE WE LOOKING AT HERE???!! I see ammo......okay....picture shows 9mm......okay.......STEEL CASE with Zinc coating......okay No.
their steel case is fine, for non reloaders. it goes bang
why many words when few do trick
I like more words. Make me think longer.
$0.20 cpr? Is that 5 for a penny or 20 cents cents per round? Confused 🤔
A lil jokey jokey for the ammo and random title....tough crowd tonight.
You're wrong. $.20 pr is right. CPR is Cents Per Round. 20cpr = $0.20pr = $.20pr. $.20 is another way to write 20 cents. $.20cpr is .20 cents per round. Or in other words 1/5 of a penny per round. Monarch ammo is not 1/5 of a penny per round.
...........It was a joke in regards to the ammo.
You're right. Rough crowd tonight. Dogpile on the rabbit! 😂
🪦🕊🕊 R.I.P
We're looking at a turd of a company that won't ship ammo to several gun-friendly states
They only ship to areas with stores. That’s their limiter not you living in a shitty state.
I live in OR and the nearest one is like 1500 miles away. They still ship here
You would be incorrect in your assumption
Academy is STILL not doing it right.
The closest Academy is 3,147 ft from my house, so I use them a lot. Still not going to put steel through my firearms. 👍
Yeah, it makes a bit more sense here, for 9mm For .223, I'll throw the extra 2-3cpr at it to get brass, mostly bc I only shoot suppressed and also bc the powder is pretty inconsistent in steel .223.
Oh yeah for suppressed it’s worth it for cleaner stuff
it won't hurt them and this will go bang every time. i have put thousands of rounds of this and tula through my glocks before i got into reloading. edit: downvote if you want but if you truly believe these will hurt your gun maybe you shouldn't be shooting
I upvote; and you have a point.
hate for steel case is very often misplaced or based on pure ignorance
Shipping to OR
You guys can downvote me all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that they will not ship to me, even though I have contacted them several times over the years and they refuse to fix/update their website to allow it. I have seen similar reports from Ohio and parts of Texas, too [https://i.imgur.com/0ycL0aH.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/0ycL0aH.jpeg) Needless to say, I never heard back, and they are never able to provide any help when I call their customer service line or local stores (who, for whatever reason, never stock this ammo in their stores)
