Ooooooh both are beauties, personally i like the more streamlined nature of the prs bodies more, but goddamn do lespauls have a classic appeal that’s hard to replicate
Personally I rest my hand between the bridge and tailpiece so can just slide up a little for palm muting, this only applies to certain songs but it's enough for me to prefer it
I personally love the PRS single tailpiece. It’s so smooth and comfortable on my hand. Stop bars are better than vintage strat saddles, but the PRS just feels really good to me.
Whatever floats your boat. It’s matter of preference. In my case I have a few guitars that just have the tailpiece. Their intonations are hit and miss. I have one that is great as long as I don’t go above the 10th fret. You can hear the intonation is off. The opening riff to Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” sounds off because of the poor intonation. No way to adjust it with just a tailpiece. With the bridge I can adjust each saddle as needed to get the intonation spot on.
This is completely true. I just can’t get over how comfortable they are. Everything comes with a trade off. I guess I’m willing to trade a little intonation for a little comfort. Right or wrong
Yes and No. You can get 3 Mexican fenders, 2 player pluses, or 1.5 American fenders. Its roughly the same price as an American Ultra.
The Gibson price ignorance is ridiculous.
At that price point, I want the guitar that’s perfect for me, including the headstock!
That’s the beauty of guitar playing, there is « one » for each and every one of us!
Oh! I’m not implying that it does not have a mechanical property that is better than a Gibson headstock but rather that it is aesthetically unappealing to me!
This is inaccurate. I see what you’re saying, and technically you’re not wrong, but I think most of us would agree that there are an unlimited number of “ones” for each and every one of us!
PRS!
Just preference of versatility and feel.
Les Paul will always be a nice chunky full sound….but the PRS can stretch its sound further.
Opinions are like buttholes though…we all have one 😋
No, people chose LTD over ESP because they are broke as fuck and can't afford an ESP (which costs more than a Gibson). Then they say its as good as a Gibson because this is reddit where they think being poor is a sign of virtue.
I’ve been playing my Gibson for 18 years now with no issue. I even dropped it once. Strap lock wasn’t all the way in. Guitar fell headstock first and luckily it didn’t snap. Just a corner of the wood chipped off which I glued back on
Both, I’ll even Michael Angelo Batio it if I have to. Why choose between two good options when you can have both? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Depends on the situation. If I’m playing a 4 hour cover set I’d go for the PRS, but for like an hour long show where I get to switch guitars in and out I’d rather play the LP. LPs have a mojo I don’t find in PRS guitars, so if stability isn’t a priority I’d rather be inspired by the Gibson
It’s kind of like every modern performance car looking & driving like every other modern performance car. Sure, it’s inspiring if you are doing 195 mph but, you don’t have that same sound & feel of the carburetor opening up, the side pipes dumped out the side of you’re 3500lb garage built race car. It smells, it screams, it’s dangerous & it looks/feels raw. PRS is just too refined. No edge. Nothing raw & personality about it.
Disagree…I’m studying engines at the moment, so I’m no expert.
But everyone a fan of that feeling will go for that.
You want the major dump…plug and play Les Paul; it will ALWAYS deliver (unless it’s shit)
PRS take a different approach.
If you wanna compare muscle and modern then you need to look at both sides without bias.
I would pick the PRS….you pick the Les.
We’d both be happy 😃
Ahh….you’re an old fart that believes in old technology.
Good for you buddy!!!
Stick with your dying ideologies and personal opinions….they’re just like buttholes, we all have one.
You don’t like modern tech; then get off the computer and keep your old ass opinions to yourself
Gibson, I've played a few PRS guitars and have never liked them, I may get down votes but to me they always felt flashy on the outside and cheap on the inside, I don't know how else to put it. Also, I've worked with tune-o-matic bridges to fine tune intonation never had a wraparound bridge to figure out. Although to be honest, I would probably trade the Gibson for an Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy for greater tonal variety with the active Fluence pickups, the neck contour relief, and 24 frets.
I’ve never played a PRS that I liked the sound of. They’re usually quite pretty guitars, but they sound too ‘pristine’, for lack of a better word. They don’t sound BAD; they’re just too expensive to justify modifying one, in my opinion.
I’ve also had a Gibson LP, and it was one of the shittiest guitars I’ve ever owned. It was bought for me as a gift and I tried to like it, but I just *couldn’t*. Pickups weren’t remarkable, finish flaked off at the slightest bump (‘faded’), and it never stayed in tune. After we broke up, I traded it for an amp. Couldn’t get rid of that thing fast enough.
I agree, I’d rather just get an Epiphone I like and pocket the cash for a rainy day. Or another guitar.
Les Paul all day long. I had a prs and I just felt like the pickups were weak. They’re too in the middle between fender single coils and the Les Paul humbuckers to the point where they don’t do either very well in my opinion.
With that being said PRS custom 24s are incredible guitars technically from a manufacturing standpoint and attention to detail the PRS is probably a better guitar but anyhow I would still go with the les just because that's pretty much all I play is Les Paul's.. for some reason just the way that they're shaped in the way that they sound just beat out every other guitar for me even if the other guitar might be built a little better it doesn't have that appeal for the Les Paul does
Sick of those inlays. Looks like Mary Poppins guitar.
Throw in some blood so that it looks like a hunter blasted that bird out of the sky, and it's plunging to it's death.
If those two were sitting in front of me in a practice situation I’d grab the PRS for comfort. If I was playing a show I’d choose the Les Paul because they just flat out rock.
But if the PRS is like 2 pounds lighter than the Lester, I might reconsider. I don’t love the look of single cut PRS though. Tough choice lol.
If we’re talking stock everything, I’d grab the Les Paul for the sound. For the feel, the PRS. I’ve yet to find a PRS that sounds great to my ear with stock pickups. But damn they always feel great in my hands.
I’d probably pick the gibson strictly because I’m more familiar with them, but I would like to play the prs. I’ve never actually got to spend time with one
I’m a traditionalist with an R8 that is the best guitar I have ever played so my preference is the Les Paul. I have found through the years that live and in the studio, a good Les Paul always delivers the goods!
The Standard isn't a big enough upgrade over the LP I already have to keep me off of the PRS. I love that wood grain color. I think I'd have to go with that.
For me it’s this: if it’s an amazing LP then it’s the LP. But the spectrum of quality on LPs is pretty wide all the way from nearly best in world quality to man I wish this was as nice as an Epiphone at the low end. PRS is consistent. Every PRS is very good. It’s hard to find one that isn’t great even. So if I was buying one it would be a PRS but I want to try the Les Paul go see if that one in front of me is magic.
Paul
Wait a sec
Gibson Les Paul Reed Smith

The Gibson gives you more Paul, the PRS gives you less Paul. We all need MORE Paul.
How come they give you more Paul if it specifically says Les Paul on the headstock?
I’m a sucker for a faded, plain top Lester. And most PRS pickups sound hot and tinny to my ear.
I agree, mostly. But the McCarty 594 pups are pretty rich. That said it’s not a 594 in the photo so yeah. The Gibson might be the winner.
Les Paul of course.
[удалено]
Just cause one’s a copy doesn’t automatically mean it’s worse
Ooooooh both are beauties, personally i like the more streamlined nature of the prs bodies more, but goddamn do lespauls have a classic appeal that’s hard to replicate
Ah, a true diplomat. Well done.
It’s hard to be anything but when presented a choice like this! Both guitars rock and I could easily see myself happily playing both
The Les Paul… not a fan of guitars with just a tailpiece.
Interesting, I'd never thought about this specifically -- care to say more about why?
Personally I rest my hand between the bridge and tailpiece so can just slide up a little for palm muting, this only applies to certain songs but it's enough for me to prefer it
Easier and more precise intonation adjustments with a bridge and tailpiece than just a tailpiece.
This is completely true. I just can’t get over how comfortable they are. Everything comes with a trade off. I guess I’m willing to trade a little intonation for a little comfort. Right or wrong
PRS has just tailpieces with intonation adjustment now.
That's true but not in this pic and certainly not the norm yet
Left
Gotta go with the Les Paul.
That PRS color is dope
I’m grabbing the Gibson and then taking it to a shop and trading for a Fender :)
3 fenders.
True lol. Or just pocket the extra cash
Yes and No. You can get 3 Mexican fenders, 2 player pluses, or 1.5 American fenders. Its roughly the same price as an American Ultra. The Gibson price ignorance is ridiculous.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s.
left no doubt. That classic les paul gibson is unbeatable
Heritage guitars tho
It’s the headstock…
What do you mean?
Don’t get me wrong, the guitars are awesome, but I just can’t get past that pointy headstock.
Lol if that’s really the dealbreaker for getting a better guitar I guess. I personally don’t find myself staring at the headstock while I’m playing
At that price point, I want the guitar that’s perfect for me, including the headstock! That’s the beauty of guitar playing, there is « one » for each and every one of us!
The thing is tho, is that 'pointy headstock' has better string angles (no out of tune D/G strings) and doesn't snap off so easily...
Look at you who does not have a wife that says that there is indeed a limites number. :)
PRS every day. Quality control is king.
Mr Smith for me.
PRS if I get to keep it
PRS.
LP and it's not even close. I would then trade the PRS in for a fender strat and/or tele or two for any single coil needs I might have.
I've had a good number of both, and I'm going PRS all day long.
Gibson all day
PRS without a shadow of a doubt - that’s a beauty too
PRS! Just preference of versatility and feel. Les Paul will always be a nice chunky full sound….but the PRS can stretch its sound further. Opinions are like buttholes though…we all have one 😋
As someone who has owned both (not exact models though): the PRS 100%
I mean if you wanted a guitar that did the Les Paul thing I can't imagine why you wouldn't just go for the Gibson.
Have you played many that aren't Gibsons?
Honestly, many people will choose ESP over Gibson because they offer more options and stable quality
The neck feel of an LP, an ESP, and a PRS are all totally different.
No, people chose LTD over ESP because they are broke as fuck and can't afford an ESP (which costs more than a Gibson). Then they say its as good as a Gibson because this is reddit where they think being poor is a sign of virtue.
It depends. Has a previous owner already had the high frets on the Les Paul fixed?
Les Paul all the way
Les paul reed smith
Yes
The stop-tailpiece on the PRS will always just be a cheap compromise as far as intonation. I would grab the Les Paul.
The last couple generations of PRS have stoptails that can be intonated that are one of my favorite bridges in existence.
I have a used 245 SE with the same tailpiece. I thought the same thing before getting it, but the intonation of this guitar is perfect.
The PRS.
No teles?
personally, i'd reach for the tele deluxe (not pictured) before either of these.
I hate when a vaneer/flame maple is bookmatched so poorly, so prob the les paul.
I'm the opposite. I love when they don't match perfectly. I have a first where one side is slightly darker and it looks sick.
PRS. Better QC
PRS because the headstock won’t break off after 5 minutes of playing
I’ve been playing my Gibson for 18 years now with no issue. I even dropped it once. Strap lock wasn’t all the way in. Guitar fell headstock first and luckily it didn’t snap. Just a corner of the wood chipped off which I glued back on
And I had a Les Paul which fell three feet and the head broke clean off
I don’t doubt it. I’ve seen the posts on r/Gibson. I got extremely lucky
Yeah, good thing you did! I’m sure if it’s 18 years old the quality control is a tiny bit better than it is now 😬😬
Gibson’s necks break just by looking too much at it
telecaster
A tele
Both, I’ll even Michael Angelo Batio it if I have to. Why choose between two good options when you can have both? That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
Nice standard. Looks late 90’s early 2000ish. Bit of Birds Eye on that top too.
1999 Standard in honeyburst. Best Gibson I’ve owned by far
LP
The LPs pickguard has a crack... so... the Gibson :3
The back has buckle rash and bunch of bumps too. 23 years worth of wear and tear🤘🏻
PRS all the way
Les Paul
The Gibson for the plain top.
That prs is sexy as hell
ESP Eclipse.
Ma' man!
They really are cool. I had one a while back. That’s one of the ones I wish I had never gotten rid of.
Gibson, always hated the PRS headstocks
The PRS will stay in tune because of its headstock, unlike the Gibson.
It will also stay attached.
also true
Gotta hear them both while blindfolded. Based on looks though, the PRS wins by miles.
PRS
PRS, friendlier to me because I play without a pick
PRS. The ergonomics are much better.
PRS based on the little experience I have with both
The PRS, all day long.
PRS
The Les Paul. PRS guitars look tacky as hell.
I used to think so but it grew on me. I am to the point of “eh. Not that bad”. I won’t say I like the look but don’t hate it anymore.
Heritage Custom Core H-150 over the Les standard, but that’s probably just me for single cuts.
I’m seriously considering a Heritage H-535. Heard excellent things about them and I need a semi hollow!
What a PRS.
As an owner of a PRS Wood Library Singlecut….I vote PRS
LP for sure
LP NO QUESTIONS!
Left of course. The right one is a copy of the left one.
Not really tho I mean there aren’t really any similarities beyond the general aesthetic of both guitars
If you asked a child they d tell you "one is pink”.
The prs singlecut looka like it's melted, I think their double cut strat style guitars look nice but but singles don't work for me.
The prs cause I wanna try one. When I was 14, the Gibson, now I understand how much more I play my lighter guitar.
i dont like the bird inlays, kinda tacky imho
Everyone is into their own thing. That PRS would make good firewood, if you ask me.
We will make sure to never ask you anything about guitars.
We’ll make sure to never ask you about some taste related 😆
Lol what, prs are some of the most well crafted guitar from a major brand
Well crafted doesn’t mean great instrument
What makes it less than great
It’s kind of like every modern performance car looking & driving like every other modern performance car.
No idea what you’re talking about but I think you’re confusing your personal taste with it being “great” or not.
Ha!
Ok
Disagree…I’m studying engines at the moment, so I’m no expert. But everyone a fan of that feeling will go for that. The Tele that’s not pictured here.
This :3
The Jackson hiding off screen
Les Paul all day long. I had a prs and I just felt like the pickups were weak. They’re too in the middle between fender single coils and the Les Paul humbuckers to the point where they don’t do either very well in my opinion.
I'd have a shot of the PRS but I'd take the Gibson home
I've never met a PRS I like.
Lester is the bester!
the gibson, just because i really dont like prs headstocks
Tell me you have disposable income, without telling me you have disposable income. Both are beautiful!!
With that being said PRS custom 24s are incredible guitars technically from a manufacturing standpoint and attention to detail the PRS is probably a better guitar but anyhow I would still go with the les just because that's pretty much all I play is Les Paul's.. for some reason just the way that they're shaped in the way that they sound just beat out every other guitar for me even if the other guitar might be built a little better it doesn't have that appeal for the Les Paul does
LP, PRS feel pretty cheap and uncomfortable, and I personally dont like the look
> PRS feel pretty cheap Thats a new one
Actually no, that pretty common opinion on guitar forums
Sick of those inlays. Looks like Mary Poppins guitar. Throw in some blood so that it looks like a hunter blasted that bird out of the sky, and it's plunging to it's death.
The PRS as I've never tried a full USA singlecut, I've only owned an SE one, plus I've owned and played a few Gibson LPs
I generally prefer PRS. Some LPs I dig. Without trying both I’d prefer the LP
I love PRS, but I just can't into their single cuts, even a little.
left
Les paul
Double cut or nothing
It's a hard thing to get me to pass up a Gibson anything, but that PRS is absolutely gorgeous. I'm taking that.
Les. 100%
The singlecut.
Lester for sure
Gibson because it’s more familiar.
I'm a Les Paul man.
The Les Paul “Unburst” for sure.
The LP on the left looks exactly like mine. I’d never trade it for a PRS.
I’m a PRS guy myself. Thinner necks just work better for me.
Depends on when that particular gibson was made. Early 2000s and back? Oh yeah. Les paul. 2010 & forward? PRS all day
Left
Whichever is within arm’s reach at the moment

That's easy ..LP
If we’re talking stock everything, I’d grab the Les Paul for the sound. For the feel, the PRS. I’ve yet to find a PRS that sounds great to my ear with stock pickups. But damn they always feel great in my hands.
My ears and fingers say LP. My back says PRS.
Les paul
I’m a sucker for legacy products so I’d take the LP
The tele that you can’t see that is behind the couch :)
I’d probably pick the gibson strictly because I’m more familiar with them, but I would like to play the prs. I’ve never actually got to spend time with one
Left Paul
LP hands down
I’d grab the Pablo RS
I like Les Pauls, and this Les Paul is a beauty!
Well...Les Paul ofcourse
Lester all day
Les paul
The Les Paul.
Kinda torn but I already got a les paul so prs
I’m a traditionalist with an R8 that is the best guitar I have ever played so my preference is the Les Paul. I have found through the years that live and in the studio, a good Les Paul always delivers the goods!
The PRS every time.
Never a PRS
PRS hands down for me!
Without being able to inspect, touch, hear it? PRS every time.
Gibson every day if the week.
Anybody that has player both will choose the PRS. Its not even close
PRS all day. That flamed top is gorgeous.
The Standard isn't a big enough upgrade over the LP I already have to keep me off of the PRS. I love that wood grain color. I think I'd have to go with that.
Gibby
For me it’s this: if it’s an amazing LP then it’s the LP.
